What do you base these polls off of? You have a 1 lost South Atlanta team behind a 5 lost Eagles Landing team, doesn’t make much sense.

No separate rankings for private and public single A teams, now that GHSA has split them up?

Leave a 13-1 Excel Christian team off… But put a Mount Paran Christian team that beat us by 6 in our worst game all season at #8? Seriously?

We have the best winning percentage and the most wins in single A, slightly ahead of W.D. Mohammed, and other than their last two games, our schedule has been just as tough. Can’t see the rational for them being #6 and us being left off. Guess it’s the Metro Atlanta factor, just like with Mount Paran.

Eagle’s Landing was ranked #1 in preseason after reaching the semifinals in 2012. This season, Eagle’s Landing has lost to one Georgia opponent – #1 Tift County of AAAAAA. The other losses are to out-of-state teams. South Atlanta’s loss was to another, unranked AAAA team.

Excel is having a great season. Perhaps they should be ranked. Their absence here has nothing to do with where the school is. But they weren’t ranked in preseason, don’t have a history of success in the state playoffs and have played only one team with a winning record. Not saying Excel isn’t an excellent team, but that might explain why they don’t jump out at people despite the 11-1 record.

Yeah, but South Atlanta loss on the road in 2ot’s. Still doesn’t make sense to me, but it’s your rankings. Just a side not, Eagles Landing is not going anywhere their way too soft.

@Todd Holcomb you really should get out and watch some of these teams before you rank them.. also some of the teams play tougher schedules than others. Especially The teams who play out of stat a lot. Some of the out of state tournaments are tougher than others. like Beach ball, City of Palms Chick fil a… etc..

Really you have Archer ranked number 3 in AAAAAA and Valdosta unranked? Valdosta beat Archer head to head by 16 already this year. Valdosta is 9-3 and one of the losses was to Mill Creek without their leading scorer and four other players and they only lost by 3. Last night the Cats beat Lowndes by 41 and could have been much worse as the starters sat the entire fourth quarter. Valdosta is not the most talented tema , but my gosh they play extremely hard and smart. They are so well coached. They will not win state, but they are definetly a top 10 team in the state. Gonna be a good matchup versus Tift later on. Tift is way more talented but is poorly coached.

What I have noticed this year is that the competition is more watered down than ever with an additional set of schools. 10 of these teams would not have been ranked anywhere last year. Tift was not very impressive at City of Palms losing 2 out of 3, only beating Eagles Landing who was worse there, only beating the host school, Bishop Verot. Winning on a national level is not as easy as it looks.

Its obvious that the AJC voters aren’t very familiar with the relative strengths of teams across the state. However, it doesn’t matter. Things will be settled on the court.

@Dosta cat7 I was at that Archer vs Valdosta game and the refs gave Valdosta some home cooking, Archer played the last qtr and half with only 1 starter bcuz everyone fouled out. The game was close until that point

@Jbreezy: Home cooking? the game was played at Tift County. Not exactly a bastion of love for Valdosta. The Cats cleaned the clocks of Archer. Just like DostaCat says, they may not be the most talented by their 4 quarters of pressing and running is tough! They could win Region 1 again.

SOUTH GA. BBALL

January 7th, 2013
9:13 am

@ jbreezy – Valdosta did not recieve any ‘HOME COOKING” against Archer. Thats just the way the officials in South Georgia call games. It usually hurts South Ga. teams in the playoffs because the North Ga. officials call games very different. Archer gave up 70pts between 2 Valdosta players (RASHAD LEWIS 40 -CLARENCE SMITH 30). The soo-called “BEST POINT GUARD” in the state they have scored only 2pts the entire game. Also, if Archer is #3 in the state, they should have handled Valdosta and the game should not have even been close. Archer also should’ve lost to Johnson Savannah and Marist in the other two games they played in the Tournament at Tifton. Both games were 2pt wins.

Greenforest in Class A should be ranked higher…maybe not in this pole, but in the pole that shows who the luckiest coach in the world is! Greenforest has almost all freshman and sophmores and their lineup is 6′9, 6′7, 6′7, 6′6, 6′5, 6′3, 6′2….

Greenforst lost to Norcross by only 3 points….there is NO WAY that a class A school should even be able to stay on the same floor as a 6A power like Norcross….somebody needs to look into them!!
