DeKalb County’s two boys and two girls state champions from last season will square off in a doubleheader at Miller Grove on Friday to cap the final week of play before teams head into the winter break.
The Columbia girls will face Miller Grove at 5:30 p.m., and the Columbia boys will take on the Wolverines at 7 p.m.
Columbia’s girls team, ranked No. 1 in Class AAAA in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s preseason poll, is 5-1 after losing to AAA No. 2 Buford on Saturday. Miah Spencer scores 19.5 points per game to lead Columbia, which won its second Class AAA title in three years last season. Miller Grove, ranked No. 1 in Class AAAAA, is 6-2 but has won four consecutive games. Klarissa Weaver averages 10.7 points and 9.3 rebounds to lead the Wolverines. Miller Grove won its first state championship last season.
The Miller Grove boys (9-1) have won four consecutive state titles and are coming off a 64-62 victory over Class AAAAAA Norcross. Earl Bryant (15 points per game) and Keith Pinckney (13 ppg) lead the Wolverines. Columbia’s boys have won the past three Class AAA titles and enter the week at 7-1. Auburn signee Tahj Shamsid-Deen, the Class AAA player of the year last season, leads the Eagles with 18 points per game.
Miller Grove and Columbia will be two of several DeKalb schools that will be traveling over the holiday. Here are some of the more prestigious out-of-state tournaments in which Class AAAAA DeKalb teams will be participating:

Daytona Beach Classic in Daytona Beach, Fla. – Stephenson boys
*Still perfect: The Flowery Branch girls have the best record of any team in Class AAAAA – boys or girls – at 9-0 after beating Gainesville 58-30 on Saturday in the first round of the Lanierland Tournament. Tavia Sykes scored 15 points to lead the Falcons, who play East Hall at 8:30 p.m. Thursday in the semifinals. Flowery Branch is 6-0 in Region 8-AAAAA.
