Five questions to be answered in the Georgia Dome next week in the AAAAAA final –
How many points will they score? Norcross and Lovejoy have good defenses, but they put up record numbers of points in the semifinals Friday. Lovejoy beat North Cobb 63-42 in the highest-scoring semifinal game in state history. The second-highest scoring game is now West Rome’s 61-31 win over Lakeshore in 1984. Meanwhile, Norcross beat Colquitt County 41-27. Norcross’ 41 points rank as the third-most in a semifinal in the highest classification over the last 25 years – behind Lovejoy’s 63 and North Cobb’s 42. Valdosta scored 49 in the 1986 semifinals, and no team had scored more than 40 in a high-class semifinal since.
What school and coach will win their first state championship? Norcross and Lovejoy have never won state championships in football. Neither have their coaches, both in their 18th seasons as head coaches – Keith Maloof of Norcross and Al Hughes of Lovejoy. Maloof will be coaching in his first state championship game. Hughes took Lovejoy to the Class AAAA final last year when beaten by Tucker.
Who has the better feature back? Alvin Kamara of Norcross and Travis Custis of Lovejoy are blue-chip recruits who went over 2,000 yards rushing Friday in the semis. Kamara is uncommitted. Custis has committed to Georgia Tech. Both are candidates for state player of the year.
Who will make the big plays on defense? Both teams play aggressive defense and force big plays. Lovejoy returned two interceptions for touchdowns against North Cobb, and noseguard Nathaniel Norwood has over 30 tackles for losses. Norcross has more than 50 sacks, 18 by junior defensive end Lorenzo Carter.
Will county football pedigree matter? Gwinnett teams, of which Norcross is one, have won state titles in the highest classification the past two seasons (Grayson, Brookwood) and eight of the past 16. Lovejoy is trying to become Clayton County’s first football champion since Morrow in 1987.

Congratulations Norcross. Let me guess, Rush (The Bygamist) Propst got cheated again. Thats why Colquitt lost you know. He’s never been beaten fairly but he’s been cheated a lot. I wish Norcross had scored 71.

NC came ready to play last night, no doubt. I thought by the end of the 1st quarter we were in for a long night. But then our defense finally woke up, Custis turned on his game, and the rest is history. One thing that impressed me about NC is that they never quit even when they were down by 21 late. They really do have a great team. Luckily, Lovejoy came to win it and punched their ticket back to the Dome. I’m a little concerned about our defense right now like I’ve never been, especially the right side. But I know that will be corrected this week in practice and we’ll be ready for Norcross. We’re definitely going to have to bring our absolute best “A” game against this very good Blue Devil team. Gonna be a good one for sure. Good luck CATS!

I told people all year not to sleep on Lovejoy! This should be a battle of undefeated teams but Lovejoy was cheated down in Moultrie! LOL!
This game should be one for the history books next Saturday at the Dome. I would give the running game edge to Norcross but Lovejoy’s QB is better than Norcross’s. Both defenses play lights out so I will call that a draw. In the end, Lovejoy’s passing game is slightly better than Norcross and that should put them over the top. 35-31 LOVEJOY! Good Luck to both teams you all earned it!

North Gwinnett fan here. We lost to both, and only to both. Norcross game was closer than score indicated, I think 10 points. We played Lovejoy with a broken-legged QB. Still Lovejoy put only 21 on us and we got 6. Norcross QB is steady, not flashy and can get the job done. Lovejoy will not have home field which is huge for them. Norcross will win this one in a close thriller.

Thanks to my Packers for another fine season and for playing your with your heart on your sleeves!!! We are very proud of u guys!!! Norcross has a great team and their overall speed was impressive.People in Moultrie will question the play calling but Norcross just had more speed at almost every position so the play calling had to be perfect and plus we would have to have a little bit of luck are Norcross defenders would have to miss some tackles. And Norcross was also very physical and just did their thing.Good job Norcross and if i had to pull for anyone next week it would have to be Norcross because we have a former Packer on the staff. Two great teams should be a good one.My Packers are a good team with good speed but not great speed and Norcross has that so in this type of game u need a few breaks and hope they make some mistakes. Its hard to call plays against this type of speed but as long as we gave it our all and didn’t quit.

Just a point of reference for all you who have the idea that Norcross defense is somehow better that Lovejoy. The stats don’t lie Lovejoy PF 604 PA 129 Norcross PF 537 PA 188. 129 allowed all year and that includes 42 last night to a NC team that just couldn’t defend us.We haven’t given up 42 points in over 3 years so big ups to NC you guys played your hearts out. Toughest game we’ve had to date hands down.( including the cheat fest that we lost down in Jim Crowquitt County.) Congratulations to Norcross. We look forward to a great game next Saturday. I would root for you guys since yo u disposed of Region 1 2 weeks in a row., and that deserves props, but we beat some pretty great teams too in Marietta, NG and NC. Its been a tough road for both teams but I think (no surprise here) that the Lovejoy Wildcats will prevail. This is the best DLine in the state and #22 who has top 5 RB numbers. His name doesn’t even appear on Maxpreps’ list of RB’s Forget about the top 10 , his name doesn’t even appear. Well none of that matters, come Saturday. Good lucj Norcross. You’re gonna need it.

@ Justin Martyr Besides North Gwinnett, Mill Creek and Parkview i wouldn’t exactly call Region 7 a survival test. Lets take a look.
Duluth 3-5
Habersham Central 1-9
Collins Hill 6-5
Mountainview 3-8
Peachtree Ridge 4-6
Meadowcreek 0-10
Would’nt exactly call that a survival test for a good team. Just like Lovejoy you guys tried to play tougher teams outside of your region. Lets just see what happens next Saturday night. Truth is both teams can play. Lovejoy, just like I’ve said every week about every game and against every team IS JUST BETTER.

@avis totally agree about the southside team. AJC has given very little coverage to Lovejoy all year til now when they’re forced to. They’ve barely mentioned Travis Custis til now and all of a sudden he’s the main man, which is what he’s been to us all season. That sells newspapers you understand! Todd Holcomb has pretty much dodged Lovejoy all season in his write ups. He loves the northside. Don’t know where he lives but I’ll bet it’s north of I-20!

@fridaynightlightsfan…without turnovers, Mill Creek would have beaten North Cobb in the quarterfinals. That is the whole point…the team that can minimize turnovers when it counts the most in the playoffs will win. That said, I think Lovejoy dominated North Cobb from the end of the 1st qtr, to the end of the game, turnovers or not. The championship game will be a good one for sure.

@LovejoyDad, believe me, Region 7 is as tough as any region. Peachtree Ridge would likely be a playoff team in any region, and Mill Creek and North Gwinnett would probably challenge for a region championship in other regions, and Collins Hill would do better than fourth seed in most regions. Heck, Duluth might be able to squeak into a fourth seed spot in a few very week regions. Gwinnett football is for real, and I would not be underestimating the power of both region 7 and 8. Finally, of course the records aren’t going to be that great when the region 7 teams all play each other. Good luck to both Lovejoy and Norcross.

Lovejoydad, Give it a rest. You lost to us for the same reason we lost to Norcross, Lowndes, Valdosta, and NG this year as well as Grayson last year. Had nothing to do with cheating, refs, injured players or whatever excuse. It is because you scored less points than we did.

I’ve seen a few post from fans saying there team was “cheated” in Moultrie. I think some of you actually believe that the home team provides the officials and would actually call a game unfairly.
There are plenty of times high school officials make mistakes. Most of the time there are fans screaming about calls the call was correct. The officials don’t care who wins and they are not out to get any particular team.

Excited about the game and it seems that the two best teams are playing. I have no clue if this game will be 17-14 or 45-42. With that being said, I think Lovejoy, will make the necessary defensive adjustments after that mediocre performance last week. Although they made plays when they needed to, they still have up 42. Coach Jones is a great DC and Chatman is a great OC and understands this offense since he ran it as well. I think Jones will do everything to limit Norcross’ RB and make someone else best them. I think Norcross will do everything to limit Custis, the difference I think is Lovejoy has others that can beat Norcross. 35-21 Lovejoy in a thriller

Like it or not, Colquitt beat us, Did they dominate us, no. I was so wanting to see them again in the Dome. Revenge at this level would have been sweet! But our focus is obviously on winning the state championship and showing our critics that southside boys can play too! Gwinnett Co. has a great tradition of winning the big games and you’re supposed to do that when you’re the largest school system in the state. To do otherwise would be an embaressment. After next Sat. you Colquitt fans can say “Hey we were the only team to beat the state champs.”

Norcross has to many weapons. Autry will play saturday. Lovejoy wins if they can stop the run and play lights out on offense. But no one all year has stopped kamara yet. I agree, Kamara is a great player and will be difficult to control. But so is Custis! Norcross hasn’t seen a back of his caliber this year. Either way, it’s going to be fun to watch those 2. Our guys will definitely need to make some adjustments on D after this past Fri. night and I’m confident they will. You don’t become the no.1 D in the state without making the right adjustments for each team and a great coach to make it happen. On offense, we’ve got a few weapons as well. Benefield is a great passer and can scramble as good as anybody. The line is big and strong and quick. His receivers are awesome. They can catch in a crowd and have great breakaway speed. It’s going to be a great game for sure!

Foreal: you think you’ve played against better defenses. One thing that Marietta, NG, and NC all said was”they’re much bigger and faster than we thought”. Honestly, what defense do you think you’ve played that is better than Lovejoy’s there is no one in the state that had the athletes to play an affective man coverage across the board and be tops in the state in turnovers along with scoring defense and besides last week I wouldn’t be surprised if Lovejoy’s defense hadn’t outscored its opponents on the season!

Lovejoy will do what Lovejoy does. I does not matter who the opponent is. They have a plan and it is working. This game will solidify a place for the Cat’s in history, win or lose. They have defied all odds pertaining to them on the season. There was so much skepticism. So many questions. What was that computer generated stat, 2.03% chance of winning the title. I know, it is not done yet but the odds certainly have changed, just as I said they would.
There has been a decrease in the blogging and that is understandable given more teams are now out. However, those that call themselves football fans and had so much criticizing to do and never giving credit, should now be here to face the music. Lovejoy has proved all the ney-sayers wrong to this point. That includes the writers at this publication. You have and will continue to have your favorites and there is nothing wrong with that but you need to stop with the step child mentality you have exibited concerning Clayton County Sports. Being born and raised in Metro Atlanta, I have watched the AJC go from “Covering the South like the Dew” to not adequately covering the Metro. Political news and crime are not the only things going on in Clayco. Our kid’s deserve as much coverage as the other Metro area’s. A lack of coverage has resulted this season in much talent being missed on the national level because you choose not to publicize it. No coverage of the kid’s, no knowledge of the kid’s. No athletic scholarships for the kid’s. Many people were surprised by the amount of talent on display, why ? It has been on the field for 3 years in a row. Go figure !

@colquitt supporter actually we scored more points then you did. We just had 12 of our points erased of the score board. One on a holding call 53 yards from the Travis Custis run for a touch down. The other on a 20 yard pass to Brandon Davis. Colquitt got there second touch down on a 30 yard double personal foul which was called on LJ after your receiver closed fist punched our DB in the head. Which he has been doing the hold game. But I guess that’s the way they teach them to get open. So stop bragging on your home cooking questionable win.

Lovejoy#1 – not bragging just stating the facts. Not sure what rulebook you follow but points scored and brought back because of a penalty do not count. If your team had not held, you may not have scored. There are rules to follow and penalties to suffer if you break the rules. If you can not accept that, find another sport.
First I have heard of the closed fist for the entire game – I watched the game on the internet and just do not remember that. Sounds like sour grapes to me.
However, I am still puzzled on the double penalty. I tried to watch the replay on the local TV but missed it. I was hoping to hear the coaches take on it.
But when all is said and done, you guys are to be congratulated for making the finals. It will be a good game, and I look forward to watching it. Good luck.

Norcross is looking forward to another week of football. This game should be a great match up of the best athletes in the state. I believe this game will boil down to the line of scrimmage. Norcross has a tremendous O-line and Lovejoy has a phenomenal D-line. Maybe the best D-line that we have faced all year. If Norcross wins the battle in the trenches…Norcross wins the game by two scores. If Lovejoy’s D-front is able to move the line of scrimmage back 1-2 yards then I believe Lovejoy has a chance to upset Norcross.
It is going to be a great game and I congratulate the Norcross program and Lovejoy for a fantastic season.

Ihsalum33-You can’t really claim that Lovejoy’s D is the best in the state given the soft region schedule they play. Don’t get me wrong, I believe the D is very good but best in the state may be stretching it given the Grayson D was dominating better competition this year.
Lovejoy will need to hold Norcross to less than 24 points to have a chance and I feel that is a pretty tall order given the way Norcross has been executing in this season. Norcross is so much more than Kamara just as Lovejoy is so much more than Custis. Their our great athletes in all 22 positions.

@colquitt supporter I do understand the rules. But usually holding is a call that is at the ref discretion . And if a player is not in the position to make the play typically he want get that call. Well Custis was on the rightside hash mark 20 yards down the field when the flag came out on the left side of the field 20 yards behind the play. But it’s ok a lose is a lose. You guys had a great season. Just a suggestion in the future just make your visitors feel a little welcome . Not saying suck up to anyone but let your team hard work speak for itself. I’ve grow up on an old saying ( the ragged wheel squeaks the loudest.) and every team that I’ve heard that played there felt that the coaches and they’re ref where on the same page. And I will still say in 2012 the separation of the races just don’t fly. You have a great city (Get It Together) believe me your kids already have.

@ Sportsnut… I am hoping Norcross wins, but if Lovejoy does then the program deserves all the respect in the state. Even though I don’t care for the classless play of the Wildcats at times, I can’t deny the fact that they are in the title game for consecutive years in two of the highest classifications. Norcross and Maloof are finally playing up to their potential. They could do this year in and year out when they play like this. Regardless of who wins, Norcross vs. Lovejoy will be a game people do not want to miss. It’s like two college teams going to war for the National Championship. I know some of yall think I’m obsessed with Bullet Bob and Mo Dixon LOL, but you can deny or ignore what they do year in and year out. Interesting to note…proof that Sphire and Mo Dixon are two of the best in high school football. NG held Lovejoy to 14 points on offense. Last year held Colquitt to 17 points on offense. Both were the lowest point totals scored by either team the last two seasons. NG was greatly outmatched athletically in both games. Just shows how good Lovejoy and Colquitt are/were and NG as well. In the interest of good sportsmanship going into the Lovejoy Norcross contest, here’s a record of the kind of trash talk that I hope is forever history, and not displayed here ever again. @norcrossdawg dude the actions of one player doesn’t define the whole team. Emotions run a little high at this level. It was a little over the top but this team is NOT a bunch of thugs. You’re stereotyping us because we’re from Clayton Co. That’s too bad! This is a group of fine young men who just happen to play football very well! @sportsnut you’re right about the AJC’s lack of respect this year. I blogged earlier about Todd Holcomb not giving us the coverage we deserve this year. Now he’s forced to do it. I love it! By Friday we’ll get to see how fair and balanced this guy is. One thing is for sure, these are the 2 best teams in the state. We’re all passionate about our team so a class person won’t throw insults at the other side. Just state the facts and enjoy this moment!

Sportsnut-I look forward to great game vs. Lovejoy. I have watched 4 games today and I am impressed by the quality and speed of the defense. The offense has some playmakers as well. I believe that Lovejoy matches up well with Norcross. Outside of Camdens defense, we really haven’t seen your type of speed on defense all year.
I believe this will be a phenomenal game that the winner scores 31-35 points. I believe we have an edge on the O-line, QB and RB positions. I do believe if our O-line controlls the line of scrimmage we win.

Haven’t see Lovejoy play; obviously they are super good. I did see Norcross Friday night and was really impressed. If they have a weakness, it might be against a power running game; their d-line is a little undersized it looked like but lightning fast, and their corners can really tackle as well as cover.
Alvin Kamara is as fun to watch as any back I have ever seen in person; fluid, shifty, and almighty fast. He runs too straight up on the goal line, but they’ll teach him better at the college level. If you ever let up on him or give him a crack, he is gone to the house. Period. I hope his running mate, Autry, is back for the championship game. He may be as fast as Kamara but I didn’t get to see much of him in the semi-final game.
There are some great matchups, but I can’t imagine a better championship game than this one.

@norcrossdawg I want call your young men (that I don’t know) thugs are anything. Because i have a great group of friends at Norcross. But I will remaind you of what happen to the last team who had to play Lovejoy after a teams fans went on a unnecessary name calling rant. I think it was 63-42 and 2 yards from 70 we could have scored again but we like North Cobb. The last three weeks according to the papers we was suppose to lose to a Gwinnett are a North Ga. Teams. I know you probably haven’t seen the Ga. Tech. Bound grown man Travis Custis run the ball. Because Lovejoy is only on T.V when they play a North Atlanta team. But please know it will be grown man BCS football come Saturday Night.

Lovejoy#1: That’s EXACTLY what it will be on Saturday night GROWN MAN BCS FOOTBALL! This is probably the best match up, because the teams on our side of the bracket didn’t have strong defenses, and the teams on that side of the bracket didn’t have too strong of offenses, but you have two teams with defenses that make big time plays in big time moments, RB that look like late 90s college RBs, big boys in the trenches, and speed speed speed everywhere! Definitely making this trip to Atlanta! SN: Congrats to ECI (A-public) the school I work at is in their region. Excited for them as well

@Camden74 – Not so difficult if you lived here and understood what was going on. The Gwinnett School System more than doubled in size in the past 10-15 years. With that growth came new schools and programs and constant redistricting changing where the kids play. Using Grayson as an example, when we opened in 2000, there was no football program. There was no stadium – just a field with some lights. No weight room, no field house, no concession stand, no ticket booth. It takes a while to get these things up and running. We were formed by redistricting South, Central and Brookwood. Since that time, Archer opened and the redistricting took over 1,000 students out of Grayson. Again, this is just an example that has been repeated for Mill Creek, Mountain View, Lanier, Archer, Peachtree Ridge.
Since the advent of the mega-school class in 2000, Gwinnett teams have won the championship 6 times and played in 11 of the 13 championships including this year. I would say that we have been represented well over that period of time!

Leave Brookwood high school and drive 9 miles to the east and you will be at Grayson high school.
Or drive about 14 miles to the northwest and you are at Norcross high school. If Norcross finishes their perfect season Saturday that will be the last three champions in the highest classification.
I think the Gwinnett schools are representing themselves just fine.

I recently introduced some of you to Brandon Davis (#3) , Lovejoy’s version of the Honey Badger. How do you like him ? 10 touchdowns, 7 int’s, 5 returned for td’s, 4 for 100 yards or more, Failed field goal attempt 80 yard return for td, 75 yard kickoff return for td, 2 td’s receiving and 1 fumble return for a td. Could these numbers be true ?

Sportsnut-I guess your past of not predicting a Lovejoy victory has come to an end. There are a few issues with your post above. First of all, any stat comparisons that you or any Lovejoy fan makes need to have an asterisk put by them given your strength of schedule. I’ve post in the past that I believe Lovejoy to be a solid team with tremendous team speed. The problem is your region schedule was so soft. Anyone can pile up numbers playing against cupcakes. We renamed your region “the Bakery” given the cupcakes and doughnuts in there. Secondly, Norcross will be ready and focused on winning in the big stage. Like I said before, leaning on history doesn’t help any team. Lastly, if you allow Norcross the type of start that you allowed North Cobb you will get embarrassed. There will be no coming back against our D. We have only trailed twice all year and when we get up we go for the jugular.
Lovejoy had another great season and back to back runner up finishes is something to be proud of. Lovejoy will be matched with athletes that are as good as or in a lot of cases better. Your team speed which is usually your advantage will be neutralized by a team that is faster on the whole.
Congrats again on winning the Bakery region and a softer path to the Dome. But like they say “all good things must come to an end”.

@ The Cross == Norcross is a good team and I would never say otherwise. What does the region have to do with this ? We won them all and not by a touchdown. Same as last season. We are back where we were last season at this time. Let me make one thing perfectly clear, WE ARE NOT CAMDEN ! You will find much more football here than you did with them. Seeing is believing. What happens when Kamara is stopped ? Can Wilbur carry you ?You are hoping Autry, and so am I, will be ready to roll. I hope you are at full strength, It is going to take that and more. My opinion of the game between Norcross and LJ.
I think it is going to be a good game. Lovejoy has probably improved a lot since they came to Moultrie. Their D was able to stop us but they gave up some big plays that cost them the game. The QB was off on his passing that night because we were able to keep pressure on him, it seemed. Custis moved the ball well against us in the first half but we were able to contain him in the second. They are good though.
Norcross is as good as advertised. The Offense is very strong. Unfortunately, for number 5, we did not get to see him in action but Kamara run through our Defense. I’m not sure if it was poor tackling on our part or he was just strong and very fast but defenders just slipped right off of him like he was greased up. LJ will definitely need to shut down Kamara for a chance.
Norcross has a good defense. The defenders are tall and can shut down the passing lanes but they can be scored on. The better teams have proven that this year against them.
My prediction is that Norcross will win this game. If LJ’s defense plays very well, they will win this game.
Before I get any haters, I have already congratulated Norcross for a clean game and the Pack was beat. Looking forward to watching the finals.

Sportsnut-You definitely have different make up than Camden and your defense is certainly not as disciplined as Camden’s as evidenced in the North Cobb game. To answer your question about Kamara being stopped, well I do not believe that we have to worry about that at all because from what I watched on film there is a really low probability. Our O-line will control the line of scrimmage. But, let’s say you took Kamara out of the game would I trust Wilber? ABSOLUTELY. He has been the most consistent/quality QB that I have watched this year and I have watched some good ones. He will definitely outplay your QB this Saturady…no question. Autry will be back. He was a little banged up but could have gone back in last week but we had the game in hand. As will Jones who didn’t see a snap because we did not need him. I hope Lovejoy is prepared for the buzzsaw they are walking in to because like I said if we jump on you like North Cobb did then it will be over by halftime. Norcross is a much, much better team than North Cobb and have better personell in ALL 22 spots.
Good Luck…Lovejoy will definitely need it to just stay in the game with Norcross.

Sportsnut-Just to clarify my Camden comment. I do not beliueve your defense is as good as Camden’s, but your offense is certainly more dynamic and could pose some challenges. Your D is as quick as Camden’s but not as disciplined. I would much rather play Lovejoy’s D and Camden’s O if given the chance.
And as it relates to your region and what does it have to do with it??? A lot actually, as you guys are begging for respect, your strength of schedule is laughable. I realize that you cannot help this but saying that you aren’t getting the respect after looking at ytour schedule should answer your question. There is not a team in your region besides Lovejoy that would win it all in AA. You played 1 decent team in the regular season and they beat you. Your path to the dome was fairly easy compared to ours. That is wht it is relevant. If you came in on a 100 game win streak but were playing an equivalent JV schedule, what would it mean??? NOTHING. You will see a REAL TEAM with REAL ATHLETES on Saturday. Have your boys tighten the chin straps an inch or two because they just might lose their helmet and what’s inside of them if they don’t.

@Camden74 – You said “When you look at the fact that Gwinnett County has the population to support 18-20 Class 6A schools, it’s difficult to understand why they aren’t represented in the finals every year!” (your statement in full) and after explaining some of the issues we face I also said, “Since the advent of the mega-school class in 2000, Gwinnett teams have won the championship 6 times and played in 11 of the 13 championships including this year. I would say that we have been represented well over that period of time!”
Since there are 2 regions of almost exclusively Gwinnett teams (R7 has Habersham Central – a situation I can’t imagine them being happy with), I can understand how some might think R7 or R8 haven’t but should have been in the finals every year. But when you speak of Gwinnett as a whole inclusive of the 2 regions, Gwinnett *has* been very well represented in finals especially considering the issues faced by the newer schools and those that keep having their districts redrawn.

The fact is that Lovejoy is here. Talk about all the different things you want but they are here. Earlier, the soft region was the reason we would not make it far in the playoff’s because everyone else was “battle tested”. How did that work out for the rest ?
@ 74 == Yeah, Camden is at home !
@ The Cross == Every week during the playoff’s, we have heard about the best Qb we have faced. He seems to play for all our opponents.Tyler Queen, Anthony Jennings, Michael Haynes and now Joseph Wilbur. He will have his lunch eaten.
Lovejoy stopped begging and decided to take what they want. Winning get’s that for you.
Did anyone ever think that those teams that were favorites and have fallen were not that good to start with ? Makes sense to me ! If they were that good, they would still be around. Who beat Grayson ?North Gwinnett. Who beat North Gwinnett ? Lovejoy. Who beat Lowndes ? Marietta. Who beat Marietta. Lovejoy. The strength of schedule has improved since the playoff’s started. That is what happens when you beat those that beat the best. The point is that Lovejoy is 13-1 and playing for the title. That soift schedule prepared us for this. Thanks Region 2. We also thank Region 3, East Coweta and Tri-Cities, Region 6 Alpharetta, Region 7 North Gwinnett. Also Region 1, for being so strong that your #4 was really your # 1. I stated much, much earlier that if Colquit was supposed to be one of the best that AAAAAA had to offer, Lovejoy would win AAAAAA. Looks as if I was pretty close. There is only one team on Lovejoy’s schedule now and it is Norcross. Win this one and no more comparisons. Might as well stop talking.

Lovejoy has a great team, and they could win Saturday if they play better.
The game will come down to who is ready to play-
who controls the lines of scrimmage,
who makes the big plays when they have the chance,
who finishes tackles better,
who doesn’t turn the ball over,
who gets the extra yard when it is needed,
who takes the ball away,
who doesn’t get stupid drive-killing or drive-extending penalties called against them and
sometimes, who gets a good bounce at the right time…
Should be a great game between two teams who have done everything they needed to do to get to this game.

Re: the relative schedules… they don’t mean anything except that one of the teams has been tested more than the other. But when it comes to the game between them it won’t matter. Just don’t figure that anyone that you have seen all year Lovejoy is our equal– because you haven’t played a team of our caliber yet– close, but not quite…
Norcross has played more Top15 teams and this should help them, they are 7-0 against Top 12 teams #3 North Gwinnett, #4 Camden, #6 Colquitt #7, South Gwinnett (twice), #11 Parkview and #12 Mill Creek.
Lovejoy has faced three Top 15 teams and gone 2-1: #3 North Gwinnett (win), #6 Colquitt (loss) and #8 North Cobb (win).
If you extend out to Top30 then Norcross adds 3 more wins against Collins Hill, Chattahoochee, and Peachtree Ridge to get to 10-0 against Top 30 teams…
Lovejoy would add Marietta and Alpharetta, to get to 4-1 against Top 30 teams.
But you don’t get to pick your region or your schedule, so all you can do is win your games and Lovejoy and Norcross have both won every single game they played (since we have now been informed that Colquitt did NOT beat Lovejoy but instead it was Lovejoy that beat Lovejoy. So I am not sure if that means they are 1-1 in that game, or 1-0. If anyone knows, please fill us in)

Lovejoy will be the best team that Norcross has played all year hands down. My son came home from his film session at school today and said “dad, they’re just like us. They are just as big, fast and strong as we are”. With that being said, I’ll give credit to Norcross have having a dynamic offense and a stiff defense, but Lovejoy has been here before. When you stop Custis our 7 on 7 kings will slice through you. With Autry hurt, if you stop Kamara……….nothing. Your quarteback throws ducks, mine throws TD’s. Sportsnut-Not worried about our DB’s…we have two D1 corners and a 6′3″ safety that leads the team in INT’s but most likely will play D1 basketball.
If I were you I’d be more worried about your penchant for playing press up man to man on the corners. We will burn you for at least two TD’s if you guys plan to stay in man coverage. That is not an opinion but fact.

Just put your best eleven players on the field Saturday at 8:00. After the game we don’t want to hear we would have won if. X, Y and Z player wasn’t hurt. A little inside Travis Custis ran for 5 touch downs 292 yrs. last week with the flu. He feeling better this week. @catman homie I dont care who won the game. I was just making an observation. Ty Griffin left NC & went to Mceachern to play. Albright is the safety for NC. Both of those kids were QB’s on NC team in front of Queen. NC is 3 TD’s better with either one of those kids playing QB. Because of the daddy ball, Queens 10th grade son was moved to the starter. We will never know but it would have been interesting to see.

Lovejoy lets remember something,
Alvin Kamara : # 4th RB IN THE NATION= Probably won’t be stopped on saturday, Lovejoy only hope is to slow him down,
Joseph wilber: 2400 yards passing only 5 ints, offers to play qb at Wisconsin
Myles autry : # 1 RUNNING BACK OF 2014 IN GA
Lorenzo Carter : 19 Sacks
Those are some facts to consider.

@forealtho I have to agree that if we give up 42, we won’t win. I guarantee you that won’t happen! We’ll make the necessary defensive adjustments this week and be back on track Sat. night. And I wouldn’t be so fast as to say we won’t score 63 against the Devils. Honestly I don’t see it, but with the explosive offense and a defense that scores frequently, we very well might.

@Cat Man, but for your team to get the necessary defensive points to put up another 63 point game, would require the Norcross offense to make numerous critical errors, and with a QB who’s passing over 60% with only 5 INTs in 14 games, the probability of that happening is fairly low. So now you are going to have to rely on your offense to beat the Norcross defense and get points on the board. Now just out of curiosity, who are the other major play makers for Lovejoy, because thus far the only person who’s ever been talked about is Custis. Norcross on the other hand has Kamara and Autry on the ground, Lynch, Trey Smith, Masseiah Francis, Darian Dennis in the air. Not to mention Autry and Kamara’s ability to run pass plays. So good luck on defense as well.

The Cross. So was Alpharetta , North Gwinnett , North Cobb. Again unlike you.I’m not saying Norcross is not a good team. Just know we don’t make our schedule . But we don’t play every team that is in front of us. And last Friday night Norcross number was pulled. We don’t have the t.v press, our kids don’t go to the top camps in the nation. Hell we don’t even have a field to practice on. But one thing we have at this small 4AAAA program is heart and good old punch you in the mouth talent to play this game. @alex So you’ve only heard of Custis. After Sat. night you will know well of these other guys: QB Alexandro Bennifield, excellent passer, scrambler, decent speed, Brandon Davis, loves to pick off those passes, errant or not, got a good sense to find the football, can go both ways, 8 picks this year, 6 for TDs 2 over 100 yds, Nathaniel Norwood, nose guard, he will be all over your QB early and often, nobody on that line will be able to stop him one on one, Jumichael Ramos and Arshad Jackson 6 and 8 respectively, twin tower receivers, Montrell Custis, D back also good sense of the ball, Travis’ cousin. It runs in the family. This just names a few. There’s plenty more, so do your homework and I’ll quiz you later this week. @cross dude, you’re still hung up on the soft schedule thing. North Cobb had so many mistakes that Lovejoy didn’t cause. North Cobb ran right down their throat a lot and scored 42 points on the ” best D”
I wasn’t impressed by interceptions that were thrown right to the defender, this isn’t peewee, we should all be able to catch a ball at this age.
Lovejoy has a talented running back and good size, so they should be able to keep it within 3 scores if they don’t act like thugs and get stupid penalty after penalty

I’ve read most of the post and a lot of great points were made but here’s a slight rebuttal. Yes, Lovejoy has a week region, BUT outside of NG (who LJ beat) that region looks weak to me! Mill Creek couldn’t play better D with 14 players on the field. And underneath that I see cupcakes. So kg our region is a bakery yours should be little Debbie’s region. Next, your QB isn’t that great, he’s definitely good but that’s it. He threw a lot of balls that Colquitt should’ve picked off but Lovejoy will. Travis Custis is the most underrated RB in the nation if Kamara is #4 because #4 ENd in the nation don’t fumble the ball inside the 5 in big time games! Also, do you think 6′ 2″ receivers scare them when they practice 1s on 1s and Lovejoy has a 6′ 6″ receiver and a 6′ 4″ receiver both running under 4.65. AJ and Ramos will be up for the challenge against your DBs as well. The honest fact of the matter is we have more playmakers than Norcross and while we can simulate your offense in practice, you can’t do that with ours because they just don’t have the personnel. that defensive line will make that “best line in the state” look like the “KB” teams we’ve played all year!

Sportsnut-Your post woke me from a pleasant slumber because I worry about you and the many Lovejoy fans that are not thinking rationally. I do not know if your serotonin is out of whack or like my Uncle Emmett use to say “you are just touched in the head” but something is definitely wrong down there in Clayton County. Our O-line has only given up 4 sacks all year and one was down in Camden where Wilber slipped on the turf. You bring up weight and your weights are all wrong. If you got that out if the Gwinnett Daily Post article about our Offensive line jelling then you got last years weights because that is what they used. Our line averages 278lbs and they are good, really good. You mentioned Walker and Jenkins our two athletic tackles BIG tackles…they will be playing on TV on Saturdays but not next year as they are only juniors. They will have so many pancakes that Aunt Jemima is thinking about doing a promotion on Saturday. You mentioned our All-County selection and probable All-state selection Ledford (who will play on Saturdays next year) who will out technique, out think and out play all of your D lineman because he could line up at literally any position on the line. Crum, Wood and Northrup will want to get your D tackles addresses as they were brought up well and they’ll want to send flowers on Sunday after being on top of your D tackles and nose guard all night. Ask Griffen from Mill Creek and the USC commit how fun it was to play against this line. He thought he was in astronomy class because he was looking up at the stars all night. You preach two seconds and I chuckle because that’s all it takes for Kamara to run 20 yards and be at the third level ready to punish your safety. Two seconds and our wide receivers just beat your dbs on an out and up. But if we wanted four seconds we will take it. We will dictate the game and we will take what we want. Sportsnut did you even look at why the Matan calendar says what it says??? It says Norcriss will be spreading Love and Joy on December 15. Then almost one week later everyone misread the end of the world on December 21. That’s the date the Mayans had for the Norcross Parade and Victory Party. One silly Mayan wrote that we are going to party like the end of the world is coming. And that my friend is why everyone thought the Mayan calendar predicted the end of the world. It is not coming but it will feel like it for Lovejoy on Saturday.

Norcross is ranked number 8 the same reason Grayson was number 1 and USC was number 1 on the collegiate level and yada yada yada…rankings don’t mean anything because even Camden was in the top 10 Nationally this year and THEY ARE AT HOME! The fact of the matter is NO region in Ga is really tough EXCEPT that Region 8 (respect where respect is due) I’m sniffing that Elmer’s Cement extra hold and you are obviously drinking that “Nationally ranked” Kool-aid! Your O-Line averages 278 Lovejoy’s averages 300. You’ve never seen a defense front like this. All we heard was NC’s QB doesn’t make mistakes and is careful with the football. Lovejoy can’t stop the high powered Marrietta. Your ranking means as much to me as the predictions for us to lose by 18 to NG. NOTHING! We may just pull a Norcross and beat the Big, almighty Blue Devils. All hands will be on deck for this one. I don’t feel the need to mention our players and what they can do. It has all been said before. What I will continue to say is that Norcross has not played a team this good before. Not Camden, not Colquit, not South Gwinnett and certainly not Chattahoochee. There is nothing wrong in Clayco. As a matter of fact, ,we are feeling pretty good in the Southern Crescent. We have 3 teams in the Dome this weekend.

The Cross: I say region 8 is the best because of consistency! Now it really doesn’t matter which region is the toughest now because it’s between 2 and 7. Besides the point, even though you talk about our region, we won all our region games with an average of 50 points so we KNOW how weak they are. But when a powerhouse meets a cupcake they devour them! Now if we struggled with our schedule then your region argument would be valid but we handle business. And most of those games were over in the FIRST HALF…The fact of the matter is Travis Custis has rushed for over 2000 yards and 30 TDs didn’t even play in the second half for most the season! Norcross is the best team in the state because they have no loses, I respect that, but a 12 point win at a 5-5 Collins Hills, a 8 Point win at 7-3 Mill Creek, and 10 point win at NG is not THAT impressive. While we don’t play anyone in the regular season, we took care of business, you have only 2 shut outs and our offense is better than ANY offense you’ve seen this season so why do you think you will hold us to less points, we’re better thank Mill Creek which put up 41 on you! Let me get some of that Kool-aid!

To Norcross and LJ fans, The Packers played a good game against Norcross and LJ (to be fair LJ was early in the season). The point I am trying to make is that I agree Norcross is probably the best High School Football team this state has seen in several years. The Pack vs. Norcross game was clean with few mistakes on either side. Norcross beat the Pack handily and the Pack played a good game. (Packers were a good team this year but not great. Coaching is what took them as far as they got.)
This is my word of caution for Norcross. I think you guys had 3 turnovers against the Pack. Although, the Pack did not capitalize on them another team might. Turnovers will be the only way Norcross loses.

Most of the talk centers around Kamara and Custis, those two certainly deserve the attention. I think the difference in the game could be Norcross linebacker #51. Tate. This guy seems to make every tackle, i think he had about 20 aganst Colquitt and a bunch at Camden also. I think he and Custis will know each other very well before the 2nd quarter starts on Saturday.

All the criticizing he does, you would think he has been watching all along. Do you have a one track mind or do you consider that NC was good at what they do ? Yards are not points. It does not matter if the starters played the whole game or not, Lovejoy won. These comments about who did what is not relevant unless you package it all together and look at the whole, not the parts. Norcross has some good pieces but lack enough to complete the puzzle. Lovejoy has it all. Every position. It has been hard for anyone to match-up with them for this reason. From Rockdale County to North Cobb, they have all tried. Every team they have played had the same attitude you guy’s have and it has not mattered. Norcross will find out what real D is. If you check, I stated long ago that Grayson, whom everyone said had the best D, did in fact not have the best D. My statement was delivered with confidence because I knew where the best D really resided.
My message to Norcross today is to warn you about these Cat’s. These are not the cats from the coast. These are the Cat’s that are ready to eat. They are starving. They only feed between the white lines. Come Saturday, there will be Devil on the menu. We hope you are enjoying the ride. These Cat’s are like none you have seen. Think you can watch TV and you will know ? Don’t bet on it ! Let’s be real. Norcross has Kamara. He is very good. They have Autry. He also is very good. That in itself is enough for some teams to win. With what they do, it has been. Now they must face a team that has 6,7,8 of that type player. That is just offensively. They, Norcross, have a very good linebacker. #51, I believe. They count on him and he does not disappoint. Here again, they must now deal with the front 7 of Lovejoy. This is a job.
Speaking of offense. A nightmare scenario for a defensive coordinator. What do you do ? Stop the best back in the state still standing or play pass defense against those big, speedy recievers. What do you do ? Balanced is a word I have used quite a bit this season and now people understand why. A complete football team is also what I said. A team playing at a high level in all phases of the game. You will need more than just Alvin and Myles. If you had 6 or 7 of them, maybe I would worry but you don”t so I won’t.

Lovejoy has played 3 good teams : North Gwinnett ( with an injured QB, and by the score and how tight of a game is was, that definitely was a difference ) North Cobb ( a good win but gave up 42 points to a team with half the size and talent you supposedly have) and Colquitt County, a team you lost to.
Lovejoy is very good and i’ve watched a lot of their games on film now, they are definitely big and fast. But then again, everyone looks big and fast against small & slow teams like North Druid Hills & Rockdale County

Keep laughing. Believe it or not, that was my first thought . Let me let you in on a little secret. Don’t bet on this. Especially if you like Norcross. You’ll lose the house. You know why ? Lovejoy is loaded. All kidding aside. It’s nice to have 2 or 3 standout players but when you have a team full, it is sometimes hard to see any other outcome. This is the case right now. These seniors, who are 38-3 since their sophomore year, will have it no other way. That is 38 wins of a possible 45 with a chance at # 39. Do a little work and look at their body of work and you will see what I do. Once you allow yourself the chance to objectively check things out, you will know what I know. If this had been any other school and I know what I know about them, they would be my choice to win it all.

First of all Mr. Alien == Because you don’t know does not mean no one else doesn’t know. Our kids are D-1. Many know them. These 33 seniors have a record of 38-3 since their sophomore year. To answer your question for learning purposes, we are a step child to ATL. We suffer just as region 1 does with coverage although we are right here below the airport. Our kid’s don’t get the publicity the others do. that is why not many know. Why do you think it is a surprise to many locals that Lovejoy is here. Now back to the hostilities. You belong in that group. You know nothing about Lovejoy. Who’s your team and do you think they would beat Lovejoy, honestly ? By the way, I don’t think you know what you are talking about anyway. All those fans you mentioned talked about being where Lovejoy is. They are not. ESPN and the rest of the country thought highly of Grayson too, didn’t they ? Lowndes, Colquit, Lassiter, West Forsyth, should I go on ? On the subject of the 3 losses, one was because of the “Big Head”. They were young and learned a lesson from that. Loss #2, was in the Championship game. Loss # 3 was to a team that was nationally ranked and a co-favorite to win it all this season. They are not around.
Part 2 == I am sitting here saying those things because they are true. Recruits. Fuller, Beasley, Johmson, Robinson, Ramos, Norwood, Bennifield, Fields, Jackson, Custis, Davis, Brown, Roberson, El, Brown, J. Walker, and the list could grow.

Alien: And the other big tall 6”6″ 245 4.60 40 running wide out is going to Auburn, and Alien, you made a good point, why hasn’t anyone heard of Custis? Georgia Tech STOLE Custis honestly! If he wouldn’t have committed his Junior season, there’s no telling where he would end up at. Just like Kamara, UGA is trying to get him, Alabama, Wisconsin, Miami, and a HOST of other schools, but that’s because they’ve gotten that exposure after last year. Think about it, Norcross has ALWAYS been in the spotlight, they have a GREAT athletic program all-around. They are familiar to the national spotlight especially due to basketball, but this Lovejoy team has that chip, NORCROSS does not, That’s honestly the difference, I’m not saying that Norcross won’t show up I’m just saying I think Lovejoy may want it a little bit more. Also, stop talking about who played who because at the end of the day NG beat Colquitt and we beat NG. You’ve NEVER mentioned that but hey it’s the first 3 weeks of the season, they don’t matter anymore. I can say how Peachtree Ridge put up 41 and held them to 14 last season since our 3 losses are brought up but hey, that doesn’t matter, what matters is Lovejoy will be recognized after this weekend. We gave up 42 last week, I PROMISE YOU that won’t happen. All the post will consist of “I didn’t think they were that good” “That’s a good Lovejoy team!” “No reason to hang your heads Norcross, you had a good season!” And last year was last year, and you talk about the defense. yeah, we took a L, from a team that avg 42 points and over 400 yards of offense and held them to 22 and less than 300 yards. We lost because of Offense last year, point blank period. That won’t happen this year, our offense is MUCH better and that Norcross defense is no where near as good as Tucker’s Defense was!

This is the State Championship…want will not come into play I can assure you, there will be no lack of WANT on either side. The game comes down to execution and if Nocross can take advantage of your vulnerability and vice versa. I have been at practice all week and Norcross has a great game plan and if executed will seal the fate of your Cats. There are a quite of few spots on your defense that are weak and your schemes are big risk big reward type defenses. I believe that is fine against weaker opponents but a team like Norcross will take advantage. Norcross wins 42-24.

Kamara had a 1,300 yard 17 TD season which was good, but EVERYONE didn’t know about Kamara unless you were in North Atlanta. While LJ was playing in the Dome, Norcross was home because they had a mediocre season and lost to mediocre Dacula team! Anything is said was wrong so far? NO? You only state opinions, you THINK Kamara is better than Custis, you THINK Norcross QB is better than Bennifield, you THINK your defense can contain Lovejoy’s offense. I’m telling you how it is Norcross is good but LJ is underrated but we have 32 hours left and you’ll see for yourself.

lhsalum-Don’t they limit your computer use at the looney bin? Be a good little boy and take your meds…this will all be over soon enough and your Cats will be known as the Buffalo Bills of the GHSA.

As it relates to Kamara he was ranked as the top ranked running back for the state after his junior year. Everyone who is someone knew him. That would preclude you lhsalum.

lhsalum-Peachtree Ridge??? Kamara had 180 total yards from scrimmage and 2 TD’s in 2.5 quarters. Also Peachtree Ridge would give Lovejoy all they want. Ridge definitely comes second in your region if not first. Two bets for tomorrow…Kamara out plays Custis and Wilber outplays whoever your QB is…gotta admit he wasn’t even impressive enough for me to look up his name. One more bet…Lovejoy gets a minimum of 3 personal fouls and 1 unsportsmanlike conduct.
