Calhoun’s Lamb named Gatorade state football player of the year

Calhoun quarterback Taylor Lamb was named on Thursday the Gatorade Georgia football player of the year.

Lamb, who has committed to South Alabama, has thrown for 2,801 yards and 30 touchdowns with only five interceptions. He has rushed for 302 yards and nine touchdowns.

Calhoun is 12-0 and ranked No. 1 in Class AA. Calhoun plays No. 2 Brooks County on Friday in the state quarterfinals.

Also a basketball, tennis and golf standout, Lamb has maintained a 3.73 GPA in the classroom. In addition to serving as a member of his school’s student council, he has volunteered on behalf of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and donated his time to the local recreation department.

“He would be a great player for any team in Georgia, regardless of how good his surrounding players are,” said Model head coach Gordon Powers. “He is the best I have seen and competed against in years. His stats are only a small part of his athletic ability. I found out first-hand in our game against him just how athletic he is. I have had the opportunity to meet and talk with Taylor during some 7-on-7 competitions. I discovered that in my 32 years of coaching, he is one of the most respectful and honest young man I have met.”

Lamb joins recent Gatorade Georgia players of the year Kenyan Drake (2011-12, Hillgrove), Brian Randolph (2010-11, Kell), Hutson Mason (2009-10, Lassiter), Branden Smith (2008-09, Washington) and Tavarres King (2007-08, Habersham Central) among the state’s list of former award winners.

How many quarters has Watson played? You cannot compare numbers bc Lamb has only played past the first series in the 3rd quarter in 4 games this year including playoffs! He could have nearly 5,000 yds passing if he would have played every series of every game! If you see him play maybe you would understand!

Lamb is absolutely deserving of the honor. Like Jacket said, if he had played all four quarters of every game, he would own a lot of state single season records. His poise and leadership are what make him so valuable to the Calhoun offense. This kid would be great playing at the 6A level.

I think this award is usually won by a Senior and factors other aspects beyond just on the field performance. I don’t think Lamb is the “best” player in Georgia but I do think he is deserving of this award.

ATLienx,

So then every 6A quarterback in the state of Georgia got a better offer than South Alabama?

Not all, but most top tier schools at 6A did.
Eddie Printz is much better
Gainesville QB is much much better. His stats are better in EVERY category against MUCH BETTER COMPETITION

What a joke. Good luck sitting on the bench at South Alabama, Lamb.
