Monroe Area 21, Grady 20: The Purple Hurricanes overcame the turnover bug to defeat Grady in overtime. Grady’s first score came courtesy of an 80-yard defensive fumble return. Monroe Area fought back down by 14 and tied it up with an 80-yard scoring march in the third quarter. In overtime, Monroe Area quarterback Stanton Truitt plunged in from 1-yard out to give the Hurricanes the victory.
Ridgeland 41, LaGrange 34: Bill Bridges led host Ridgeland with 249 yards on 30 carries. Bridges also tallied three rushing touchdowns. The game was tied at 21 at the half and Ridgeland led 35-28 entering the fourth quarter. A Vonn Bell touchdown run of 21 yards with 9:50 remaining turned out to be the game-winning score.

It’s a shame this game is not being played in the dome..(Burke Co.vs. Sandy Creek.) Obviously the two best teams in the state.. Marist showed their true colors tonight… Having to go to overtime against a weak Carrollton team…. The winner of the Burke Co. Sandy Creek game will be the State Champs!!!!!!!!!

We shut out a team with the #2 defense in the state and Sandy Creek defense suspect. we gone kill yall wit the pass just like Shaw did yall. It dont matter where we play check out the stats.we beast mode on the road and at home. Just hope yall aint got to come to the Bear Den cuz u know aint no chance there but at least at home yall will have some type of confidence. We put up almost the same amount of points as yall against a better team. Guess what yall luck done ran out cuz aint no more easy teams to play, yall got to face the champs now and it aint gone be easy. So practice hard this week cuz come friday night 7:30 eastern time we will be ready. Congratulations to Marist. 5 OT’s to finally win! One of the best games I have ever seen. Both teams left it all on the field. Special teams were again the achilles heal for the Trojans tonight.
@football fan – you are absolutely crazy to say Ctown is “weak” this year. Less than the previous couple of years, maybe. Weak – not even close.
I will say that having seen Creek and Marist up close, I’d give the edge to Creek. They clearly have more team and overall speed. Not trying to disrespect Marist at all – they play smart, fast and with a great deal of heart.
Best of luck to all the teams remaining in the field. We don’t graduate many and this was clearly a rebuilding year. The Trojans will be back strong next year!

Carrollton is a weak team? Wow, you need to go back to nursing on your mother’s…
Marist won an incredible game tonight on their home field. I can’t say they were the best team after it was over, but they did get the W and made the timely plays. Carrolton was in position to win in regulation, but Marist made the play. Marist will play Creek in the Dome. Why, C and M played 5 OT’s and Sandy creek beat the Trojans by 23 points, and it wasn’t that close. They are a complete team.
Great year for a rebuilding Trojan team. Creek is definetly the class of AAAA this year!

Nuff said you don’t know anything about Burke County we are more than a one man team ask Monroe. You also mentioned we lost to a AAA team, yes we did the very first game of the season we made lots of mistakes in that one. Just a note, the AAA team we lost to will probably win the AAA state championship. The game between Burke and Creek should be a good game. I think Creek is a good team and to beat them we will have to play a mistake free game. One turnover may be the deciding factor in this one. I was impressed the way Burke defense played tonight. I predicted last week we would win this one by 21 points, we won by 22. Burke County and Creek is too close to call. I do agree the team that wins this one will go to the dome and should win it all. I don’t believe Carrollton is a weak team, but in the playoffs you can’t afford to make mistakes such as allowing block punts. When they played Creek they also made costly mistakes on special teams. I can say this, I guarantee Burke County will come to play against Creek. Hopefully GPB will broadcast this game.

Burke County sure has a lot of loudmouth fans. Sandy Creek is trying to hang on to past glory with all their might, and Mary Persons…just wins and is quiet as a tit-mouse. Marist is good, sneaky good, but next week they get…check this…Stockbridged!! Those Henry Co. lone-standing Tigers and region 4 reps are the sleeper this year…so keep on sleeping on them and before you know it..BOOM they will be blowing up your bragging party. Then ALL you know-nothings will be in abject agony. (I try to keep the words simple so even people in NY can understand at least some of them!)

I agree Stockbridge is good. This team has unreal team speed and the defense can be lights out. This team gives up on an average 12 points a game and can score at times at will. In the 3rd and 4th Quarters last night Wayne County got man handled with Stockbridge scoring when they wanted too. What a game next week will be between Marist and Stockbridge.

From the start of the year i didnt think this team woud win it all this year anyway but wow these kids tried to prove us wrong anyway also this was the best coached game teague has ever coached so congratulations to the carrollton kids and coaches. finally to our region brothers from sandy creek beat the hell out of those loud mouths from down under and go get those state championship rings Go Trojans.

Is it me or do most Burke Co fans come across as not that intelligent? From reading the blog all season long only a few BC fans (Wayne and NYCDAWGFAN) seem to have good walking around sense. Burke Co fans simply amaze me! It’s unreal how stupid most of them come across. It’s as if they are trying to be the biggest inbred ghetto fans of any team in the GHSA. It’s a good thing for BC that our teams are playing football Friday and not having a academic contest. If that was the case and most Burke Co fans are any representation of the BC school system I doubt BC would even have enough to field a team.

Thompson just so happens to be our oldest rival and was also in our region last year… So, your statement about us losing to a 3A school really has no legs.. Add to that, the fact that Thompson is good.. REALLY GOOD (last I checked they are #1 in 3A)… and there is your week 1 loss. We also stomped a 6A school (hello Coffee) so keep your mouth shut unless you have actual facts that are relevant.

Football Fan and Christian Bell evidently you have not seen Sandy Creek play before and if you have you wouldn’t be making such predictions about Burke Co. over Sandy Creek. I dont have a son and never did that played with the Creek but there team is precision and make few mistakes. May beat several college teams around.
This has got to be one of the best dynasty in the making in the state of Ga. history. Hey it will not get any better next year because this is a team of Sophmores and Juniors.

Monroe first got on the scoreboard with 9:34 to play in the second quarter on a 53-yard touchdown run by Truitt. Brown’s PAT made it 14-7. Truitt ended the night 3-for-8 passing for 33 yards and one interception. He ran 25 times for 194 yards and two touchdowns.
“Stanton was ferocious,” Fligg said. “He wanted the ball on every play in that fourth quarter and during the overtime period.”
Kwan Brooks also had a good night with 90 yards on 16 rushes.
Even though they had turned the ball over four times, the Hurricanes were still within striking distance at 14-7 in the third quarter. A 60-yard, 9-play drive ended with a 2-yard touchdown dive by Junior Brooks with 5:12 to go in the period. Brown tied it with the PAT.
Both teams mounted mild threats in the fourth quarter. Davis missed a 29-yard field goal with 4:27 to play in the game, but the Monroe Area defense didn’t hang its hat. Instead, they buckled their chin straps even tighter and kept Grady from driving deep enough to attempt a field goal.
Monroe won the toss and chose to go on de fense to start the overtime. Grady put the ball in play at the 15 and scored in eight plays, yet missed the extra point.
Monroe got the ball, scored on the Truitt TD in eight plays and won it on the Davis PAT.
The Hurricanes host South Effingham Friday in the Elite 8 at the Purple Pit.

GradyKnights2015, take your loss like a man. The first battle cry of a whiner is “The refs stole it!”. Dummy don’t you understand that the referees are NEVER local? They belong to an association that is contracted to work games. The usually don’t know where they’re going to be until midweek.
It was a great game between two strong, evenly-matched teams. Only Monroe’s turnovers – a problem all season – kept Grady close. The Hurricanes are going to have to stop dropping the damn ball if they’re going to progress much further.

Really felt you outplayed Marist and I thought Newsome would kick the game winner at the end of regulation. Marist came through with a timely block. You’re right the first thing a person screams after a loss is usually the refs cheated, but you tell me, how many penalties did you all have this game. How many times did you witness the refs spot the ball on the wrong yard line. Or tell me this, how many holding calls did you guys have…. Exactly, it wasn’t because there were no penalties. It was because of the home team advantage and just because the refs aren’t local, doesn’t mean they weren’t paid. I’m just saying.

Did I read a comment earlier that the score will be 35-14 Sandy Creek or am I seeing things. I don’t see either team wining this game by more than 10 points. If we don’t put pressure on the QB and give him time to throw to the outstanding receivers Creek have they will be hard to beat. Creek is a well balanced team but they can be beat. Shaw played them tough but failed to score in the red zone. This should be an outstanding game and we are looking forward to coming to Tyrone Ga. If anyone think the Bears will be intimidated just ask Monroe how hard we hit.

Calm down everybody, those Bears won’t be running over nobody Friday night. Actually, this will be a close game. I have seen the Bears twice this season, one of the games was against AAAAAA Coffee County, where they just took over the game. Many of you haters think that BC has one player to watch, and this is a big mistake. They dominate on both sides of the ball, and a great QB won’t matter when they meet the Bears (ask Monroe). Just as a side note, I’ve never seen 3 players laying out on the field after a play. IJS. However, Bears, make no mistake about it. We are not Region 3. We are the Creek. Don’t come half stepping like yall did in the Monroe game, because the Bears will go home defeated. Believe that!

Just want to comment on the people making comments about the citizens of Burke County. We don’t care what you think about our english. We support our team and have been for a long time. What you need to be worrying about is your teams we keep beating every week. All I know is you better stop worrying about Gator and focus on the team as a whole. You trying to contain one man and we still got 10 more players on the field just as talented. sandy creeker we didn’t half step against Monroe. U should know that they had the #2 defense in the state. When you score 28 points on a team like that and shut them out for 4 quarters then let me know. Like I said before we aint worried about nobody in any region. We are a championship team and play accordingly. Just make sure you give us a game because the last thing we want to do is blow you out. fayette county fan first I want to correct you my name is not christian it’s christion. And I have watched sandy creek a couple times but nothing impressed me. I have seen most of your scoring coming off of other teams committing muiple penalities. what made me check yall out was everybody kept saying sc got a good qb, so I wanted to know if that was all you had. And found out you have a couple more good players but your defense is weak, pass and run defense. If I still sound like I don’t know what I am talking about, then check out the sandy creek/shaw game from october this year and look how they passing and running for first downs at will.

Christion! Thanks, and WOW, I have now figured it out!!! Please help me make this happen by passing the word around to all Burke County fans who plan on heading to the game. In order to help “de-funkify” that swamp-infestated place in Tyrone they call “The Battlefield”, some good old Briar Creek water must be strategically sprinkled on and around the field. This will nullify the buzzard luck that has surrounded smelly…er I mean Sandy Creek for so long. Now I know that those Mighty Bears from Burke can do it on sheer talent and crafty coaching alone mind you, but a good dosage of that Briar Creek H2O, (aptly applied by several of your willing fans in strategic areas on and around the field) will certainly help. All it will take is an old plastic coke or water bottle filled with it and brought in. Sprinkle in the stands, and along the sidelines as you enter. Heck if I get some I can “accidentally” make an “anointing” on some of their obnoxious milk-jug shaking fans which should render them temporary allies. They will therefore start rooting for those Mighty Bears also! Pass this idea along please, and like the commercial says, if it works, it aint superstition!

Burke fans can “not be impressed” with us all they want when they are sitting at home watching us at the Dome. You guys lost to Thomson who barely beat LaGrange. We beat LaGrange by a good margin. Keep telling yourself how good we aren’t. We have the #1 offense and #1 defense in AAAA, and we have played quality teams.Your school must be good at athletics because you certainly are not in academics.

Patriot Power – Naaa, not ticked at the outcome of the game on the field that night, Griffin left it all out there and SC won by 6 points on their way to the championship. I was ticked at how your low class fans showed their true colors after the game though. They stormed the field and ripped our bear mascots outfit off of HER and tore it to shreds all over the field into a million pieces. Real “tough” way to celebrate a victory over a team that had owned you in the past. Yes I hope you lose Sandy Creek, and I hope you lose BIG. I will be the happiest fan of all if I am there when it happens, either if it is by my birth-home-town team or my alma-mater, One of these days your school will be exposed for the big dollar cheating which is taking place…yes I know the scoop. This use to be a good blog where you can have a little fun cheering on your team and making comments. It only take a few to mess up a good thing. I hope we have great weather for Burke and Creek, looking forward to some good defense and hitting in this one. I hope this game will be close in the fourth quarter. Don’t know what kind of stamina Creek have but I do know Burke seem to bring it in the second half. This will be a fun game and I am looking forward to seeing a great game. I hope it turns out to be just what we all been waiting for. I said I wasn’t going to make a prediction in this one but I changed my mind, Burke county 28 Creek 24. After this game I will be cheering for the Dawgs to pull out a close one against Alabama. Depending on which Aaron Murray show up.

To Grady fans, what situationa are you talking about, there were not that many penalties in the game, it was, overall a well played game, I do remember seeing on a couple of holding calls, it was holding on your offensive lineman, mainly because it was very obvious and right in front of the refs, so you really don’t have anything to CRY about, just think what the score would have been if Monroe did not fumble the ball, possibly 28-0, or worse.
