Predictions: Camden, Colquitt to advance past Coweta teams
Cobb County teams went 2-2 against Region 1-AAAAAA in the first round of the playoffs last week. Now Coweta County gets a turn, but it’s unlikely to fare as well against the south Georgia powers. Look for Camden County and Colquitt County to get past East Coweta and Newnan to reach the quarterfinals, where they’ll be joined by Grayson, Lovejoy, Mill Creek, Norcross, North Cobb and West Forsyth. And expect M.L. King, Tucker and East Paulding to win the Region 5 vs. Region 6 battles in Class AAAAA.

Lovejoy will welcome Marietta on friday at 12 Oaks Stadium and try to be good host before and after the game. ,During the game is another story. This game will be a battle. These teams are very close in what they do. Marietta has avery good player at the Qb spot in Anthony Jennings. He has thrown for almost 2200 yards and 24 Td’s and rushed for 719 yards and 9 Td’s. He will be a priority for the Lovejoy D to deal with. By far, he will be the best they have faced since Joshua Dobbs of Alpharetta, the current state passing leader. They did well in allowing him only 8 of 20 for less than 150 yards. They also did well earlier in the year against Cole Seagraves of Colquit, though he did pass for a Td on a tackle eligible play. Lovejoy will respect Marietta’s team and give them all their attention. Safe travels for the fans of the Devil’s that will be making the oh-so-good short drive down 75. Good luck to both teams and may all the kids be healthy before and after the game.

The Cannon…. I have not seen North Cobb play, but if I was North Cobb, I would not want to face Colquitt in the playoffs. So what if you beat Valdosta. That is a down program. I would rather face Camden or Norcross in the dome if we make it that far.

North Gwinnett fans – If you are coming to the game tonight, there is a new entrance to Grayson that is much easier to get in and out of. Continue down 20/Grayson Hwy past Hope Hollow where you used to turn to get to the school. The very next light is the new entrance to the school. The light may be flashing as it is programed to only cycle during the start and end of the school day. The Gwinnett Sheriffs will have it operating after the game for sure.
Also, once you are in the parking lot, if you go to the left around the school, there is a back entrance to the stadium that generally is not as crowded as the main ticket gate. The main gate will be crowded since school was out this week and there weren’t very many advance ticket sales.

Winning these games is much easier said than done. We know there will be upsets – which ones? Perhaps Grayson will wish South Gwinnett had missed just one more field goal?
Region 1 AAAAAA is relatively safe this week as GHSA has set up Gwinnett to eliminate Gwinnett. But there will be a minimum of 3 Gwinnett teams left, and maybe as many as 6 if Buford, GACS, and Parkview all advance.
It will be particularly interesting to see what happens when West Forsyth faces a Gwinnett defense.
These kids have worked very hard to get to this point and they deserve our respect and appreciation. There will be some outstanding performances. Good luck and safe travels to everyone.

I am a Camden Fan and I sure hope your prediction will come true; however, Colquitt will win by at least 21. They have a very good team. People in Moultrie must not care about integrity, good sportsmanship, and character because Probst is a POOR example for his kids. Camden would never sell their self to the devil to win. I sure hope we get another chance to play the packers. Hopefully they will not have their own officiating crew. The officiating was the worst I have ever seen in Moultrie.

Blue-no need to insult the Colquitt fans just because you dislike the coach. Many there didn’t want him hired but most understand that what’s past is past. He’s crossed no lines since he’s been with us and aside from throwing a few fits at games he’s done an excellent job. Let’s keep this on football instead of personal bias. Yeah, likely to be a long night at Drake Stadium tonite. Our young, but starting QB likely will not play due to an injured shoulder from last week. Plus, our starting center is out. Puts the fair-to-middlin’ O line down a notch. But, the Cougars will be there and give the Packers a good game. Hmmm … maybe a few good refs will escort Probst to ‘time-out’ if he gets out of hand … or should we say ‘when’! Good luck to both teams (esp. my Cougars!!).
