Regions 5 and 6 will find out which is better
Here are some of the stories to watch this weekend in the second round of the Class AAAAA playoffs:
*Bragging rights: Regions 5 and 6 were the only ones to go 3-1 in the first round of the playoffs, and they will go head to head in the second round with region pride on the line. This week’s games include Allatoona (R5) at M.L. King (R6), Stephenson (R6) at East Paulding (R5) and North Paulding (R5) at Tucker (R6). North Paulding, a fifth-year program in Dallas, pulled off the biggest upset of the first round when it rolled past Region 8 champion Flowery Branch 63-43.
*Hitting the road: Stephenson cleared a big hurdle last week when it won a first-round playoff game for just the second time in its last six tries. Now the Jaguars face the bigger challenger of winning a playoff game on the road when they travel to the Boneyard to face East Paulding. Stephenson has played 26 playoff games in its history, and 22 of them have been at Hallford Stadium, where the Jaguars are 14-12 in the postseason. The Jaguars are 0-4 in playoff games outside of DeKalb County.
*Under the radar: One team that hasn’t gotten a lot of attention in the postseason is Region 4 champion Whitewater, which hosts Glynn Academy in the second round. The Wildcats opened the season with a 41-3 loss to Class AAAAAA Coffee, but they have won 10 consecutive games since, including seven by 27 points or more. Whitewater beat Lee County 49-7 in the first-round, shutting down a Trojans team that averaged 45 points per game during the regular season and scored at least 31 in every game.
*Still rolling: Will Harris County’s magical ride continue? The Tigers started the season 0-4, but they responded with seven consecutive victories and have picked up the program’s first region title and first playoff victory along the way. Perhaps Harris County is peaking at the right time – its 17-point win over Northgate last week was the second-largest margin of victory during the winning streak. Harris County hosts Warner Robins in the second round.
*Looking ahead: Northside-Warner Robins and Tucker have been the top two programs in the second-largest classification in recent years, combining to win four of the past six state titles. Northside was the champion in 2006 and 2007, while Tucker won the title in 2008 and 2011. At least one of them won’t get a shot at it this year. A Tucker victory over North Paulding and a Northside win over Thomas County Central on Friday will bring the two powers together for a quarterfinal showdown in Warner Robins next week.

JAB…second plate? You haven’t had your first yet and you won’t be able to handle that. You’ll be bent over grabbing your gut wonder “what were we thinking? Our egos overloaded our stomachs. There’s no way we could have ever handled this. Maybe we’ll think twice about it if there should ever be a next time. We should have just stuck to turkey”. Sounds like to me that both teams have good running backs. I don’t know to much about EP skilled postions or their defense. What I do know is they are undefeated and that is a sign of a good football team. As of right now both teams are 1-0 in the playoffs and whoever wins the game moves on. I know that Stephenson has played in a pretty good region all year long. I can say that because I seen all the teams they played this year. Maybe i am alittle bias but I can only comment on what I seen. If Stephenson wins, I don’t think to many people would consider it an upset because of all the press Stephenson has gotten over the past years, and most would say it won’t be because of coaching it would probably say because they had better athletes than EP. Which really i never understood that comment.
If EP wins then it would be considered an upset because of Stephenson past in getting so many D-1 athletes in school and people still remember those days instead of what is going on now and the AJC focus more in the Metro-Atlanta area when covering high school football.
Now onto my predictions of the game. Whoever has the ball last will win the game unless there is a sizable lead of 14 points or better. I thhink Stephenson is battle tested to win close games and have the defense to bend but don’t break attitude. EP from what i seen on youtube has good athletes as well. There QB is a runner along with their do it everything running back. If you can control those two good football players Stephenson has a chance in sneaking into the Boneyard and getting a win. If EP gets in going early it could be a long nite for the Jags.
Score predictions Stephenson 21 EP-17.. Close game in my opinion

JAB – You keep mentioning Stephensons D-1 atheletes past and I guess what that means about the present. But to me you can keep your individual athletes because a well coached “TEAM” will go much farther and that well coached team is the EAST PAULDING RAIDERS. GO RAIDERS!!!
A group of Jaguars enters the BONE YARD they are met by RAIDING FORCES with CANNON and when the CANNON goes BOOM like magic these cats become kittens to the Conquering RAIDING FORCES.

@ GwinnettDad we are together now until we meet in two weeks, come on now! Stephenson overcame that barrier last week by winning their first round playoff game against Pope 31 – 11. What these guys from EP don’t realize is that the strength of their region (5AAAAA) is not that strong like the strength of (6AAAAA) REAL TALK, it’s real easy to go undefeated aginst a bunch of scrubbs in a region, if EP was in our region they probably will be in the same situation that Miller Grove & Mays was, hoping to be the 4th seed.
