Brookwood stormed back from deficits of 21-0 in the first half and 21-6 in the fourth quarter to stun host Lassiter 24-21. Brandon Morrow kicked two field goals to keep the Broncos within striking distance, and they struck with a vengeance in the final six minutes.
Josh Brown rushed for a touchdown, Zach Moon added a 2-point conversion, then Moon tossed a game-tying scoring pass to Ky Priester with eight seconds remaining. After forcing overtime, Brookwood maintained its momentum with an interception by Colin Cotter. That set up Morrow’s third field goal of the game, the clincher from 32 yards out.
Camden County 52, Hillgrove 17: Visiting Hillgrove led Camden County 10-7 in the second, but Camden County would score 35 unanswered points to regain the lead. Antonio Wimbush scored three rushing touchdowns to fuel the Camden County rally. Senior J.J. Green added a 73-yard touchdown run for the victorious Wildcats.
East Coweta 25, Newton 20: Visiting East Coweta trailed 12-7 early in the game but rallied behind Dee Godfrey’s three touchdowns. Godfrey rushed 14 times for 131 yards. He also made a leaping catch to intercept a pass late in the fourth quarter. East Coweta’s Anfernee Burks led the way on defense with seven tackles.
Grayson 49, Wheeler 9: The host Rams took the lead just 13 seconds into the game on David Fennell’s 80-yard touchdown run. Running back Wayne Gallman led Grayson with three touchdowns in the first quarter on runs of 53 and 30 yards, followed by a 52-yard catch. Aares McCall added a 29-yard touchdown run for the Rams.
Langston Hughes 37, Rockdale County 3: Host Langston Hughes took a mere 9-3 advantage into halftime, but inserting backup quarterback Kinan Humphrey for the second half proved to be a decisive move. Humphrey completed all four of his pass attempts for 82 yards, including a 26-yard scoring strike to Keion Davis and a 32-yard touchdown pass to Bingo Morton. Davis added two touchdowns on the ground.
Lovejoy 51, Tri-Cities 13: Visiting Tri-Cities could not muster any offense against Lovejoy and was down 37-0 at halftime. Travis Custis scored four touchdowns for Lovejoy. Brandon Davis scored on two key plays for Lovejoy with a 90-yard interception return and an 80-yard return of a missed field goal.
Marietta 30, Lowndes 27: Marietta led 16-6 at halftime and survived a late rally by host Lowndes. Quarterback Anthony Jennings threw three touchdown passes, one each to Chavez Hemphill, Tyree Harris and Jordan Mathis. In the fourth quarter, Jennings broke free up the middle for an 88-yard touchdown run. Two sacks by the Marietta defense ended Lowndes’ final drive.
Newnan 38, Alcovy 0: Newnan put together a spectacular defensive effort to shut out visiting Alcovy. Kelvin Khayyam scored two touchdowns for Newnan late in the game. Also scoring for Newnan was Rodney Tennie, who returned an interception for a touchdown. Tray Matthews also scored for Newnan, catching a touchdown pass from quarterback Bailey Bryant.
Norcross 34, Chattahoochee 7: The backfield combination of running back Alvin Kamara and quarterback Joseph Wilber were unstoppable for host Norcross. Kamara scored on two runs and caught a touchdown pass from Wilber. Wilber also connected with Trey Smith and Myles Autry on touchdown throws. Norcross led 27-0 at the half.
Parkview 20, Walton 17 (2OT): Justis Rosser made big plays all night to help visiting Parkview advance. Rosser scored in the third quarter on a 48-yard run to tie the game 7-7. In the second overtime Rosser stopped a Walton ball carrier on the 1-yard line forcing a field goal, then scored from 15 yards out to seal the victory.

@NGHS09 don’t really want to put on blog what happened exactly but he broke a team rule. Was on his way back home to Miami then came back tried to get back on team second time they wouldn’t let him and he went off on coaches . So now he’s in school at NG but not on team. He still had scholly at UNC.

Camden – have done nothing? Making to the playoffs is a huge accomplishment in itself and winning the first game is even greater. Yes, the teams have more to go, but give credit where credit is due. These are high school boys who are working their butts off and winning. So, don’t say they have “done nothing but win a playoff game”

Most of the coaches are looking the other way about breaking team rules this time of year.Spire is showing a lot of character knowing this is his best player. Maybe Miles will take this experience to UNC and stay of of trouble. The UGA coaches would probably like to see more of this from the high school level to make their job a little easier.

You asked if anybody knows anything about Newnan and East Coweta. I don’t have a horse in the AAAAAA race but my boys Sandy Creek in AAAA played them both. I do know that Newnan and E.C. will both be getting knocked out this Friday night. Sandy Creek beat E.C. 31 to 7 and it was the worst game Sandy Creek played all season. SC kept shooting themselves in the foot with dumb penalties. East Coweta is having a down year by their standards at least regular season with as many loses as they had. In E.C.’s defense they did lose over 30 seniors from last year’s team. Sandy Creek beat Newnan 31 to 7 and it was worse than the final score shows. Our coach called the dogs off that night. Newnan has Mathews the stud safety that is UGA bound but Sandy Creek had over 200 passing yards at half. Camden and Colquitt roll to big wins over Newnan and E.C. Friday night. Or at least they should. Don’t get me wrong though I’ll be puling for Newnan and E.C. since they are just down the road. Both are quality programs but I wouldn’t bet on either winning this Friday night.

It is a shame to see but some of the Lowndes “fans” are really dogging their teams on the LHS bulletin board. They are calling players out by name/number. It is one thing to criticize the coach (within reason) as that goes with the title. I think it is way over the top to go after players.

Never thought Lowndes was overrated but Valdosta has been for years. Lowndes is an excellent team but they played a group that didn’t buy into the hype. They’ll be back.

@GraysonCat – If we both make it that far, a Grayson/Lovejoy game will depend on a coin toss to decide the location as both teams are #1 seeds. Grayson could be at home or it could be played at Lovejoy.

@ Just a Fan Your information about Marietta is misleading. My son has been in this program since 6th grade and I know every kid on the football roster. They have had kids transfer out but not very many come in. As a matter of fact, only 2, maybe 3 kids transfered in this year and only one of those kids actually play, and that player came in in December of last year as a freshman. Most all those other kids have been there since pound football or middle school. Now if you are reporting that there have been 50 tranfers in the entire athletic program then I’m not sure. But I also know all the guys on bball team and they have all been there since middle school with the exception of one or two. No major tranfers are going on at Marietta. They have been coaching the players they have and those kids have come up through the Marietta City system. Now, we did LOSE some good athletes to Hillgrove over the past 2-3 years.

Ok, so I come to the dance a little late. Most of the 6A teams that have done REALLY well this year, regular season and playoffs, were the most active and best 7 on 7 teams last summer. They travelled all over and usually finished in the top 2 or 3 in both local and national tournaments. Lovejoy, Grayson, North Gwinnett, and North Cobb are just a few.

@fred and NGH09=Man this is going to be a big weekend for u guys.It has to be the game of the week and should be on tv.It is not fair that two outstanding programs have to meet this early in the playoffs. It will be a treat for Ga fans who don’t get to see such programs like this on a regular if its on tv.I don’t have a dog in this fight or a prediction but i do love great Ga football and this is a heavyweight bout!!! Good luck to both but one will come up short and the season will have to come to an end.Should be an awsome game for real

@WILDHAWG2012 – Thanks! It will be a tough game for us for sure. I hope it is a tough game for NG as well.
I know we are taking very, very seriously. NG has the ability to put anybody out. I think we can come to play ourselves. I try to never make a prediction in a game like this as I have seen too many spoilers over the years. The last time we met, we were the spoiler for NG and I’m sure they haven’t forgotten. I’m really looking forward to the game and I invite all to come see a great game!

Fred. I agree it should be a great game. That Colquitt- Mceachern game was really good maybe this one can match it. North lost Miles and the QB was limping thru the last game. I expect with these obstacles they will come out even more motivated.
