That should make the Cross temporarily happy.

Loren, You may have told us before but I don’t remember. What factors do you consider in your rankings? I don’t need nor want the formulas (which I know you wouldn’t disclose anyway) but am interested in what things go into the number crunching. Obviously win/loss and I get the feeling from your previous posts things like home field but I don’t think you consider things like injured players.

Norcross fans need to send South Gwinnett a nice xmas gift for beating Parkview last week(because Norcross did not want any from Grayson),now maybe you will make it to the third round but no further.

I think Parkview high school should have the top spot because Parkview’s football team is really good this year and always have been.

Not a Walton fan, just a high school football fan,me and my buddies travel the state each week and watch the top teams,i have seen the likes of Grayson,Camden,North Gwinnett,Gainesville,Thomson,
Northside – WR,Buford,Flowery Branch,West Forsyth,Alpharetta,Mill Creek,Sandy Creek,GAC,North
Hall, and Norcross.I just dont think Norcross has the overall talent to win 6A.

Raider Nation-well at least you are original. Most critics of Norcross think that we have the most talent in the state and we don’t have the proper coaching. But I guess you are right and the 50 or so college scouts that have offered are players scholarships are wrong. Perhaps you showed up at halftime when are starters are usually sitting by then. We shall see in a few weeks though.

And no I’m not joking There are 3 Gwinnett teams better than anyone in region 1.

C`mon Maxwell…..I thought you were smarter than that…….Norcross has a very fine team…but they are TRYING to win the trophy. Camden C. has won the trophy on a few occasions…..meaning they are proven time after time. You let one loss change your mind about things….not to mention….this was a game they did`nt need to win……and they are still in first. Jeff Herron might have played his bench or should I say next year starters to give them a feel for what to expect. This guy is no dummy This tradition at CC. didn`t happen for no reason! If you`re smart….dont put much stock in that loss!

K-Man-Camden played their starters the whole game. Herron wanted to be 10-0 with a chance to win a National Championship as much as you fools did. Why lie about that fact. You guys got your butts handed to you. PERIOD.

Every post like yours is the reason why ALL of your fans get generalized as arrogant, obnoxious and delirious with ZERO credibility.

I’ll take a quick poll….how many Camden fans believe that Herron rested his starters and didn’t do everything he could to win this game?

Come on Wildcat fans your credibility is on the line. Either write K-man doesn’t represent us or Herron took a dive.

One simple question. What if none of you make it to the second round ? Do you still have a favorite ? Since we have been told that Region 1 and Region 7 and 8 make up the upper tier of 6A teams, who are the second tier teams with a chance to win it all ? I would like for everyone to weigh in on this one. Say you leave 1,7 and 8 out of the question. Who wins ? O.K., so it is 4 questions, still I would like to know how eveyone feels.

sportsnut it could then be a competitive game between Lovejoy and Lassiter. I don’t consider neither Lovejoy nor Lassiter second tier teams. They are in so called second tier regions and maybe lower for one of those 2. I just don’t see either of the 2 being ready to take the title. Lassiter potentially has the easier route to the semis (allah Walton last year). Lovejoy if it beats Lowndes will then likely see Grayson. Don’t see Lovejoy taking both of those teams. Tough, tough draw for Lovejoy.

I would like to make a suggestion for next year regarding seeding for the playoffs. GHSA should take Maxwell’s region ratings and try to be sure the top regions are not going head to head against each other early in the playoffs. For instance the #1 ranked region in the same bracket as the #4 ranked region and the #2 ranked region in with the #3 region. I’m referring to the top teams of these regions and then sort the rest of the teams in these regions accordingly.

@Fred: “What factors do you consider in your rankings?”

The ratings are compiled from the scores and the sites of the games with the more recent games counting more and games against closely rated opponents weighing more as well. Also, past season ratings are factored in but diminish significantly as the current season progresses.
Each team gets a rating and a home advantage rating as well. The AJC only publishes the team rating, but the predicted margins utilize the home advantage as well, plus a diminishing factor to take into account that most teams favored by 80 points won’t actually run up the score that far.

@The Cross: “I have been saying all year that Loren Maxwell is a genius…”

Thanks!

these maxwell rankings are lik ethe ajc rankings,,,meaningless and pointless really. it will all be decided over the next several weeks. norcross…grayson…lassiter..north gwinnett…lovejoy are the 5 best teams from the north ……..lowndes….camden….valdosta….colquitt are the best from the south…and those 4 are all in ONE REGION TOGETHER…….we all root for each other until we play one another. I would not want to be any team having to play a team from region one to kick things off. To me its just more impressive that the souuth has 4 teams like that all in one region..the north cant say that….sure there are some great teams up north….i will give that to the north…but we are 4 out of a field of 32 and we are all in the same region. GET SOME

5-Time-Been there and done what? All of you do realize that you can’t bring your seniors back that won 3-5 years ago to play in this tourney don’t you? I mean great, you guys have won it in the past but it doesn’t do anything for this years team. These teams will have to win it on the merits and talent and coaching of THIS years team. The only team that I think that it truly will make an impact is for Grayson since they won it last year. The rest of you South Georgia boys who hasn’t won it since 2009…I don’t believe your past will help you not even a little bit.In fact I think it hurts you a little because the teams that I have seen play in region 1 are good, but not great like the teams that have won it in the past. I just think you guys are kidding yourselves and your teams by lying to each other and telling them that they are great. GREAT teams do not get beat. And Frankly all of your teams in region 1 have gotten beat and will be beat again before the tourney is over.

The Cross….Great teams don’t get beat?? I could of swore that “2005″ and “2007″ Lowndes squad lost a game and still went on to win the State Title!! Or how about that “2008″ Camden squad who lost 2 games and ranked #10 and still went on to win the whole thing!! What are you talking about??

Region 1-AAAAAA

@K-man – Really? You really think Camden didn’t want to win that game so bad it hurt? That killed their national rankings and their shot at a National Championship the same way our loss to Parkview did. I think I can safely say that both teams would give a lot to have those games as wins.

Everybody including Norcross is playing for second place in 6A because nobody is going to beat Grayson, talking about talent this team is loaded,i think 10 D1 prospects.Grayson would beat Norcross as bad as they wanted.

Raider fan- Grayson will have their hands full with a bunch of college talent and the number 1 RB according to most scouts. Norcross is LOADED as well. We will see once we get to the Dome who is left standing.

Do you even have a team in the tourney or are you a frustrated dad who has a son in the school band? Either way you don’t seem very informed or enlightened.

Hey “THE CROSS” if you think Norcross can hang with Camden, you are sadly mistaken, the teams from Metro-Atlanta can’t handle the teams from South GA it’s a known fact, but that’s why we play the game, I hope we do get to play your Blue Devils,it will be a lesson learned..

Camden 79-Is that true? We can’t ply with South Georgia? Haha…can you dipsticks explain why the trophy has ended up in Gwinnett County for the last two years? You guts had a good run but your coaching schemes are old and tired. The civil war is over and the North won. The trophy will end up in Gwinnett County for the 3rd year in a row. Look at the bright side you boys can get up in your tree stands a few weeks earlier. Haha South Georgia football is OVERRATED!!!!

The Cross and Fred……say whatever you want …..I respect what you`re saying……but the fact is that no school starts the season-off planning to win a national championship……the plan is to win the state trophy! Do you think Camden C. or Lowndes or any champion would give their state ring back because they didn`t win the NATIONAL championship? C`mon man….Get real! That`s not the ultimate goal.

bksmith14 and 5 TIME….don`t worry….the south will prevail again. All of the best teams are in the same region. The problem is they knock eachother out…..and the north is DEPENDING on that! You ever notice how the 4th seed from this very region is always going to the north every year and beat down someone. Everybody knows about the strength of south football. That`s why sports writers is always comparing everybody else to the south.

@K-man – I will guarantee you schools start of hoping and planing to try to win the National championship while recognizing that the only way to do so is to win at home first! Why do you think the top teams schedule out of state match ups? It is so the national ranking folks can get a feel for how a team stacks up against other teams that they don’t and won’t have a chance to play. Show me a coach that says he doesn’t care about an MNC and I’ll show you someone telling you a story! The best recognize and want that state title first no doubt but go ask Jeff Herron if he wouldn’t have liked to get the national.

@Camden 79 – With all due respect to the many excellent teams in the southern parts of the state, currently it is Grayson 7 – S GA 2. I know that could change this year (and will have to) but a least one N GA team can hang with you.
