Class A Power Rankings – Public and Private (Final)

Here are the final Power Rankings for public and private schools in Class A.  The top 16 teams advance to the state playoffs, which begin Nov. 16. Region champions will be seeded automatically in the top 8, and therefore be assured of hosting a first-round playoff game.

Teams have until the end of the day today (Nov. 13) to submit official appeals in writing to the Georgia High School Association.  The GHSA will consider any appeals and then announce the official playoff pairings tomorrow, Nov. 14.

Sorry for the previous post that had the playoff pairings without consideration for region champions.

As stated in the post, the Georgia High School Association is accepting appeals today (Tuesday) and will consider those appeals tomorrow morning (Wednesday). After that, they will announce the official playoff pairings. As soon as the pairings are finalized, we will post them here.

Thanks for reading.

If you are going to publish specifics, please refer correctly to the published GHSA “Class A Football Procedures”. Per their website, appeals (in writing) are accepted tomorrow morning (Wed 14th) 8A-12P, then final brackets will be posted in the afternoon.

The roughest situation might be Whitefield Academy, missing out by roughly .003 of a point.

How about Whitefield missing out on the playoffs by 1/100th of a point…to a team (Mt. Pishag) they beat pretty significantly earlier this season…all due to the fact that another team they played and beat (North Cobb Christian) did not play a formal region schedule and therefore did not count to WHitefield’s credit…wow!

# 7 SCPS best # 4 Calvary…nice rankings Calvary did not play Emmanuel County so they get rewarded by finishing 3rd in the region

Wow…read this…interesting NY Times piece that includes a significant specific indictment of ELCA along with others regarding scholarships for athletes:

Kills me. Saw a little about this on the local news last week and this article with names and everything has been out there since May. Wish I had known this earlier it would have saved me a lot of money.

I’ve heard, seen, and read that article ….. as GHSA has …… Dan is no longer a coach at ELCA, but he has paid out of his pocket for his son to remain at ELCA. Dan is a good man and I think a lot of him, but I think a lot was taken out of content when this was published. As far as Green and the GOAL scholorship, ELCA has done nothing wrong. He ( Green ) is a fine young man that has been a blessing at ELCA, and I’m not talking only about his footbll talents. I’m proud that he has had the opportunity to take advantage of the GOAL scholorship.

Walker Fan, you have some serious issues. Why do you even care about ELCA? ELCA and Walker have not ever played a varsity football game. ELCA doesn’t have to recruit. They turn away more kids than they accept. Some of the best players in the county at neighboring high schools attended ELCA at one time and are no longer at ELCA. If I was Walker’s head coach I’d keep you far from the kids. If you have a son I hope he doesn’t whine and cry like you do.

Read the article. The article never accuses ELCA of recruiting but they do not like the fact that Christian schools are preaching Jesus Christ to students. This is exactly what ELCA is all about. We want to win a state championship but we could actually care less about it. A state championship does not define us. Winning football games does not define us. Preaching Jesus Christ to each player is winning at ELCA. Coach Gess and the staff at ELCA work hard at ELCA but winning is not their main goal and they preach this constantly. Worldly championships mean absolutely nothing. ELCA’s main goal is championships for Jesus Christ.

So do you know Coach Gess? Do you know any administrators? Have you ever visited because you throw out some slanderous accusations. Savannah Christian was probably as dominant or more dominant than ELCA last year and no one complained. Wesleyan dominated a few years ago. These dominant years come and go but it seems whinny little guys like you never go away.

CHarger Fan – I think the point here is that this article offers some concerning specifics. There has been a great deal of debate on here for the last few weeks regarding this topic or recruiting. Rather than address the specifics laid out in the article, it appears as though your best approach now is to attack the messenger for providing a link to this NY Times article. It sounds as though your preferred approach is to hope it stays buried as opposed to either refute the specifics in the article or at least address some of them as Swamp Lizard seeks to do

@CF I did not throw out slanderous accusations. I posted a link to an article that surprised me given the statements that had been made on this forum. The claims in the article, for one player, seem to run counter to the claims made on this forum. I do think this is not an uncommon practice among private schools. I have no idea whether it is true or not but I will admit that when comparing sources of information, I am probably more likely to believe a NY Times researched and written article than the majority of other sources of information (e.g. random fan posts on an internet forum). I apologize for posting this link as it is clear that it is upsetting.

The NY Times! This was an anti Christian, anti school choice, anti south diatribe that is consistent with the NY times using the love of HS football to stoke the fires of their radical liberal agenda. People in NY believe sincerely that people in the South are from another planet. It is unsouthern to reference the NY Times to support any position.

If you are going to attack other posters and call them names, please refrain from using the pronouns “we” or “I” when referring to your schools desire to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ to every player as a greater priority than winning is. I am pretty sure the Jesus of the Gospel said to bless those who persecute you rather than call them names. It’s ok to defend your school, but that can be done in a way that doesn’t tear down the Gospel and play into all the negative stereotypes of Christians.

@ Walker Fan … I have really tired to be as honest and upfront with you as I can …. the article isn’t upsetting, you just try to “gig” ELCA anyway you can ….. ALL your comments have some kind of negative spin to it.

Botton line is, you are scared to death of ELCA …. your just terrified that Walker might have to play ELCA in the payoffs. It’s YOU that I have a problem with.

I mean this with all my heart to all other Walker fans, you have accomplished a lot this football season ….. 10-0, Region Champs …. all of you should be happy with the hard work your players and coaches have put in. It wasn’t long ago ELCA was trying to climb the same moutian you have this year. PLEASE do not think I am dogging your players or coaches out.

I agree. I am fearful we will have to play ELCA in the playoffs and end our season on a very bad note. You are remarkably insightful in that you figured that out. I feel sorry for any team that must face your team. Apparently you feel some twinge of guilt about it also given your prior comments a day or so ago about feeling badly that OLM gets the first round pleasure of repeating their bad experience with ELCA from a few weeks ago. I understand exactly what we are and what we are not.

With that said, it would be remarkably nice to get that far…the semi’s that is…that will take some good play and good luck.

Bucket, what name did I call Walker Fan that is wrong? I called him whinny and that isn’t name calling, it is an absolute fact. I’m embarrassed for him.

If Walker’s boys do not have the mindset of Walker Fan they can beat ELCA. ELCA is not unbeatable like he describes. But it is very important that Walker’s head coach keep this guy away from the team. I hope he isn’t a Dad and saying this stuff to his son.

Either way, it looks like Walker has to play Aquinas or GWA and they both have two of the best players in the state on their teams. So I’m sure Walker Fan will start to complain about GWA and Aquinas recruiting. He just doesn’t know about them. GWA has just as much, if not more, talent than ELCA. In fact, GWA and Aquinas, could easily beat ELCA. I’d say Walker could but it looks like Walker Fan has them already losing.

Walker Fan

Nope…GWA and Aquinas cannot beat ELCA although they are very fine Class A teams. Every other team in Class A’s Private side tournament has had close games (wins or losses) to other Class A teams this year. Against a strong schedule, ELCA’s closest Class A game this year was 42-3. Against other Class A teams this year, the scores have been 62-0, 49-0, 69-6, 55-0, 43-0 with some of these coming against teams in the top 16. ELCA’s gap on the rest of Class A is too vast. Without ELCA, it would be a thrilling tournament. I know you know this, but to admit it to yourself would detract from you own fun over the next few weeks so it important for you to imagine the opposition is capable of beating ELCA. It is not.

@ Walker Fan …. I have a very good friend that coaches at OLM …. he, his fellow coaches and players have worked very hard this year and have lost some “heartbreakers” this season …. Example …… 30-27 loss in OT to Landmark, 10-7 loss to Athens Academy. I hate to see fellow Region 5 teams have to play against each other in the playoffs ….. it is true I would have rather seen them as a #16 seed with another shot at #1 Athens Academy …. is that what your talking about?

@ Walker Fan …. I grew up in Northeast Florida ….. seen and played against some GREAT small schools ….. Bolles, University Christian, Charlton Co & Clinch Co during the 80’s. Over the last 20 + years I’ve followed the smaller schools ( A & AA ) more so than the larger ones. Sav Christian had one of the most dominating defenses I’ve seen in some time last year. I DO THINK ELCA IS ONE OF THE BEST CLASS A SCHOOLS I’VE EVER SEEN. I said it, you feel better?

ELCA 42-3 over HI….GWA 41-17 over HI. You don’t think they are even? I can promise you that GWA and Aquinas do not think like you. Last year ELCA won the second round something like 54-0 and then the 3rd round 51-7 then got beat 14-7. Anything can happen. You probably have never seen ELCA play. If you were look at GWA and then look at ELCA you would not really see any difference at all in how they look.

With the miracle of the internet, I have watched every significant team play. Its not about your best player versus someone else’s best player. Its about players 3-20 versus everyone else’s 3-20. Massive difference. There just is. Sorry.
