AAAAA playoff preview: Five facts from each first-round game

Each day this week, we’ll look at the playoff draw for one of the five classifications above Class A, continuing today with Class AAAAA. Here are five interesting facts about each of the 16 games, with an emphasis on playoff history. One team has reached seven quarterfinals, five semifinals and two finals in the past eight years but is playing its first-round game this year on the road. Find out which one below.

@BcS2010 & ALL REGION 6 Posters!…

You been on here ALL year venting about nobody else in the STATE playing football except 3 or 4 DeKalb teams in 6AAAAA…Do you think N.S.W.R. is afraid of say M.L.King??? Don’t think so they are probably ready for ALL comers. It’s a NEW season now so…buddy WELCOME TO THE PLAYOFFS! Let’s see how things REALLY shake out!!!

M.L.K. / Sequoyah…Baring an upset I give you M.L.K. in this one, maybe M.L.K. BIG!!!
KELL / SWD…KELL by 10+ points!
CREEKVIEW / TUCKER…CREEKVIEW in a close one (sorry Tiger4LIFE)
STEPHENSON / POPE…Ok! I’ll give you this one but don’t count POPE out they could surprise!

So AT BEST the 6AAAAA (SEC) goes 2 / 2 this week and a break here and there and you are 1 / 3!

Let’s get past this week then we will talk the ROUND 2 match-ups and see who is left!!!

STEPHENSON / POPE should be a good game! While it would be fun to beat STEPHENSON I am with East Fan, it would be nice to beat POPE after last years hiccup against them!

@ Dboy Scott…

You got a 9 / 1 CREEKVIEW and a 8 / 2 TUCKER…

CREEKVIEW is HOSTING the game after winning a triple overtime game last week. They BARELY lost to Region 7 #1 KELL 33 / 29 earlier in the year for their ONLY loss or this team would be 10 / 0!
They will have a PACKED “GRIZZLY DEN” cheering them on and as these teams have NEVER played each other neither really knows WHAT TO EXPECT!

So YEAH, I think this game is definitely one that CREEKVIEW could win!

Don’t get me wrong I would LOVE for TUCKER and EAST to meet in the SEMI Round…I think that would be a GREAT game but we BOTH have to run the table to get there!

@CANNON

I know your serious o_0

You of all people, the biggest stat fanaitc of all time. Did you miss this one?

“Tucker is 17th in scoring offense (33.3) and fifth in scoring defense (9.8) against a schedule that is ranked 16th among 75 teams in AAAAA. Creekview is 11th in scoring offense (36.0) and 14th in scoring defense (15.0) against a schedule that is 73rd.”

They played the 73rd easiest schedule out of 75 teams.A ny playoff team from Region 6 played that line-up they would be leading in every statistal category known to man.

Have you seen these guys on film or you just hoping our Region go 2-2?

And did you read the article from that triple OT win. It was a miricale they tied the game at the end to a 6-3 team to take it to OT. Riverwood played the 72th easiest schedule.

I’m gonna keep things real.

- I have not ventured beyond seeing Region 5 games this year. Some of the rest of you apparently get to see 2,3 or even more games on a Friday night given your professed knowledge about teams out side of your own region.

- I will root for all the Reg5 teams but know the reality of those teams, and they are as follows:

#4-North Paulding- In the playoffs for the very first time and pretty much just glad to have made the dance. They are indeed an up and coming program. Reality: An above average offense that should put up 17 to 21 on Flowery Branch………a way way below average defense that gives up yards and points by the bushel. Flowery Branch 56, North Paulding 21 maybe 28.

-#3-Rome- Very small ream physically. A pedestrian offense that has a couple of scat backs and a capable QB, Defense is small and only has a couple decent tacklers. Should be a long ride home from Gainsville. Gainsville 42, Rome-10

#2 Allatoona- good coaches good core set of athletes who play hard for 4 qtrs. Offense is predictable but above average given a a nice stable of backs. A below average QB seems to limit the passing game consistency. If they can establish the run they will be hard to beat. Defense is well above average but must regroup quickly from last weeks mauling. Allatoona 28, Heritage-Conyers 17

#1 East Paulding – Dominating offensive line. Brutal running game and a predictable but tough to stop play action passing game. Probably one of the best QBs the state doesn’t know a lot about yet. Coaching staff introduced the wildcat in the game against Allatoona, adding yet another threat to an already lethal offense. Defense is above average, big physical line, aggressive mobile backers and good run stopping secondary. Pass coverage is suspect especially on 1st or 2nd down but good line pressure on opposing QB keeps the exposure minimized so far. A mobile QB could pose problems. I predict East comes out sloppy but wins a closer than expected 38-21 game against Clarke Central. Should be the wake up call East needs to get their focus going forward. If however I’m wrong about them coming out sloppy and they want to make a statement it could easily be a 49-7 or worse type game.

As far as the rest of the Regions……..one week at a time….Your turn will come. Respect all, fear none.

Overall I’d say that Northside, WR and Ware look like rough customers or at least on paper it would seem that way. Not sure what Kell or Creekview bring this year but ill be rooting for them.

Lastly- Region 6 folks……good to see you supporting you fellow region teams, but who you’ve played 1, 3, 10, or 20 years ago has little bearing on this Fridays games. I am willing to however declare Reg6 the AAAAA Blogging Champions of 2012. :) .

I KNEW I would get s RISE outta you! LOL!

FIRST off I said they COULD not that they WOULD!!! It will take the PERFECT STORM for them to get the win…I only leaned to them because it at their place, and all the variables of you guys having never played each other before. BUT as I also said…

“Don’t get me wrong I would LOVE for TUCKER and EAST to meet in the SEMI Round…I think that would be a GREAT game but we BOTH have to run the table to get there!”

So let’s hope both teams take care of business and you can come visit “THE BONEYARD” in a few weeks! Good Luck this week!

Just tossing this out there: I think everyone here blogging knows that ultimately the big elephant in the room/classification is Northside. Except for Northside fans I think the biggest sign of respect is is knowing that the rest of the bloggers are secretly hoping that Northside gets upset.

That should tick off some folks….especially the Reg 6 guys.

First good luck to all reg6 teams! All this talk about these teams going 2/2 or 1/3 is nonsense!!! All four teams have size speed and athletes. These other teams will be in for a rude awakening when they see these athletes with the size and speed! We have SWD that has a rich playoff history. TUCKER is defending STATE CHAMPS it speaks for itself. STEPHENSON and MLK are coming out of the top classification where they played against powerhouses every year in the playoffs. These CATS are battle tested and ready!!!!!!!!!!

YEAH…YEAH…YEAH…

S.W.D. brought that “rich playoff history” in “THE BONEYARD” last year and lost to an EAST team with a SOPHOMORE QB and many other positions filled with Sophomores and Juniors…

These kids are now another year seasoned…our QB is now a JUNIOR leading a BIG, FAST, TALENTED squad into the playoffs AGAIN…the “D” had 4 shutouts this year and are STILL averaging 9 pts per game!!!

You want to talk SIZE and SPEED…you can see a “preview”, the EAST / ALLATOONA game from last week is on Comcast “On Demand”…

I agree with . RealisticFan…

THE Big Dog in this fight, until proven otherwise…is NORTHSIDE W.R.!

I still say Region 6 goes 2 / 2 AT BEST!!!

I find it weird that Stephenson schedule is ranked 5th, MLK schedule is ranked 9th, and Tucker schedule is ranked 16th. While SWD schedule is ranked 23rd when we all played the same opponents except one non-region game. Stephenson didn’t even play its non region game. But whats weird is SWD the only one out of the four that played 3 top 10 ranked opponents but has the worst ranked schedule.

THOMAS COUNTY CENTRAL YELLOW JACKETS SHOULD MAKE A GREAT RUN IN THE PLAYOFF AS LONG AS THEY CAN STOP ALL PENALTIES AGAINST GREAT TEAMS.. NO DOUBT THAT THEY CAN’T PUT UP POINTS.. THEY HAVE GREAT D AND I SEE THEM MOVING PAST CREEKSIDE TO PLAY NORTH SIDE.. THING ON LAST YEAR HOW TCC SHOCKED STATESBORO IN THE FIRST ROUND WITH THIS YOUNG BUTCH, SO I CAN SEE THEM MOVING FAR, JUST BECAUSE OF THE STRENGTH OF THEY SCHEDULE.. LOSING TO C.COUNTY BY TWO.. C.COUNTY BEAT CAMDEN SO I’M HAVING FAITH THEY CAN GO FAR.. WITH A TOP QB IN ADAM CHOICE AND A GREAT BACK FIELD FULL OF FIRE POWER THAT WASN’T REALLY PLAYED IN THE REGION CHAMPIONSHIP ON LAST WEEK.. GREAT LUCK TOO ALL THE SOUTH GEORGIA TEAMS…. CAIRO, VALDOSTA,L.VIKINGS,TCC, AND BAINBRIDGE!

Alright now Cannon Rule yea EP won….. don’t make it seem like EP just dominated and ran off with the game. It was a tough game. And this not a complaint b/c its nothing we can do about it now… but if you watch the game film EP’s only TD scored, was on a HB throwback to the QB in which there was a lineman standing right next to him in the end zone. Can we say ineligible receiver down field? Check the tape.

@THE “CANNON RULES”!!…. I no you do not seriously think creekview is going to beat tucker. Lol tucker is 8-2 not 2-8 they are still a great team. There 2 losses came by a combined 14 points and they was 24-17 against MLK and 13-6 against Stephenson. I don’t understand why people think tucker sucks or something because they lost 2 games to 2 good teams by a touchdown a piece but y’all can believe what you want! I guarantee you that the teams in the playoffs know about tucker!! The defending state champs!! I can’t believe y’all are disrespecting the tucker tigers like this. It’s sad but I’mma be honest now. 1. Tucker will beat creekview easily. 2.MLK wins 3.Stephenson wins 4. I’m pulling for SWD but they will probably lose lol. So at worst we will be 3-1 but don’t be shocked if u see us 4-0!!
And let’s talk about ur East Paulding Raiders.. I respect y’all to the Max. I think y’all are 1 of the 5 teams who could win state but!!yall have work to do also.. Stephenson is in y’all region of the bracket and that is another 1 of the 5 teams who can win state. I hope y’all play them so we can see how good y’all really are.
But you have ur own opinion like me about the tucker vs creekview game but i think it’s not a very smart prediction

@Old Gold Panther

It was indeed a rough game. It was actually dominated by a lack off offense on both sides or if you prefer two strong defenses. We both also know that key offensive weapons on each side were out with injury so just finding a way to score including reverses by SWD and yes a throwback pass by East were in fact necessary. In reality I kinda thought that both teams performance and coaching were underwhelming that night. As far as a lineman in the endzone on that play……wasn’t the line of scrimmage the 3……making the lineman within the 5 yards of scrimmage allowed ? Maybe it was the 8 yd line I don’t remember

What you guys need to realize is that region 6AAAAA has been battled tested week after week, we don’t have to go outside of our region to play quality teams because they are all in the same region. Many regions has one, two or three top quality teams; we have 7 top quality teams. Also; Stephenson & MLK coming down from the state top classification were usually ranked team in the top 10 every. That’s why region 6AAAAA, Tucker had it’s most trying season this year because of this great talent we have… ENOUGH SAID! YOU HEARD IT HERE FROM JAB TO THE DOME REGION 6AAAAA******* MLK! STEPHENSON! The other side to this is, If our COACHES just COACH!!!!!! Talent wise, there’s no comparison!!!! It takes more than just talent to win though. Coaches coaching, players making plays and a little luck also. No diss against Tucker, but what I am saying to you is what was said to Tucker about the athletes Stephenson and MLK have. You are correct and it was already brought to my attention due to an earlier post I made. For all you statistic fans. I did a little looking at the 32 teams in the AAAAA playoffs and have calculated the avg points scored, avg points against and diff against ONLY other playoff teams. This includes other classifications that were played. Yes some regions have different quality in them I think that we can all agree that there are some cupcakes in all the regions and by not factoring in non playoff teams we get a little better look at how the playoff teams stack up against each other.

Not saying it means anything just interesting to chew on.

Top 10 – Points Scored
1-Northside 42.8
2-East Paulding 38.3
3-Lee 36.0
4-Gainsville 34.8
5- Allatoona 34.0
6-North Paulding 33.3
7-Warner Robbins 31.8
8-ML King 30.3
9-TCC 29.1
10-Rome 26.7

Bottom 5
28- Union Grove 11.5
29- Effingham 9.3
30- Sequoyah 6.0
31-Pope 5.0
32-SWD 0.0

Top 5 Points Allowed
1-East Paulding 10.0
2-Northside 10.6
3-Tucker 12.3
4-Ware 13.8
5-Ml King 15.0

Bottom 5 Allowed
29-Rome 37.3
30-Lee County 41.7
31- Lakeside Evans 44.4
32- North Paulding 50.3

Top 5 Point Differential
1-Northside 32.2
2-East Pauldimg 28.3
3-MLKing 15.3
4- Allatoona 11.0
5-Ware 10.5

Bottom 5 Point Differential
28-Sequoyah. -15.0
29-North Paulding -17.0
30-Effingham -22.0
31-Pope. -24.0
32-SWD -26.3

I will make one observation. I’d much rather be playing North Paulding, Pope or SWD in the fieprst round then Northside, East or MLK.

@East Posters

If memory serves me correct the SWD team was also without their top two QBs that night. They had that big TE that if the QB could have thrown even a lick it may have gone the other way. It is unfortunate that both weren’t at full strength but don’t really think we should get into a woulda shoulda deal. I think that both teams were affected and I also think both coaching staffs both did a good job of keeping their team in the game but also missed opportunities to win the game too. Playoff football is about survive and move on.

The East team this year is better than last but a key injury can happen at any minute. One that note Kamani left the last game late…….I’m hoping it was just a cramp but can any of you confirm that?

Definitely not but we are very happily carving out our own history and gaining a degree of statewide respect in the process. Does that matter to you probably not, and does it matter come Friday night…..NOPE. Only thing that matters Friday is what takes place that particular night on the 100 yard rectangle of Georgia red clay. @tcc Champs – Sorry my man, no one from south of Warner Robins makes the 2012 5A semi-finals, but I do respect your support of region 1. You have been the only one to rep this region so far.

This was an easy aware category for us … when you have this kind of talent in ONE region, you have to tell others about it. (LOL) Lastly, you much have time on your hands to come up with those stats … Thanks for the effort. There is a lot that can be analyzed from these numbers, one in particular … Top 10 – Points Scored = soft regular season schedule … Just food for thought.

@Old Gold Panther – Don’t worry about our region team’s schedule ranking. We region 6 fans have seen with our own eyes, every Friday Night, what well battle tested our four representatives are. Now it’s time the rest of 5A get a close look at what we have been posting ALL year long.

@JAB – I can’t believe I’m agreeing with you, again … It must be PLAYOFF time (LOL) Hold down the fort at Hallford, while me, Tiger4Life and others, make our trip to Canton and welcome the Grizzles to Region 6 HS football – SIMPLE THE BEST

(LOL) Region 6 goes 3 / 1, with a very strong possible 4 /0 … sounds like playing spades (LOL) … with SWD showing the rest of 5A that playing in region 6 prepares you for ALL comers.

I think that it is kind of relative to each region however the stat that caught my eye the most was how SWD ends up being the only team in the playoffs unable to score a single point against its other region goes and also giving up over 3td to each of those teams. It might suggest that the other three region goes a far superior and that speaks well for your Reg6 argument however it also show or exposes that gap to the 4th place team in the same Region. Again, beating Kell wouldn’t be a miracle but you know as we’ll as I do how unlikely that us.

@RealisticFan…. I completely agree with your stance about SWD, but here is the thing…

Having attended all of SWD games I can say they are a weird team…yes they were shut out in those game but they definitely had multiple scoring oppurtunities in all of them. They definitely wasn’t shut out due to lack of talent or being out manned. I feel most of there problems were the inability not to have an offensive identity. I feel that since the Arabia Mountain game (7th game) they have settled on an identity and have been playing sound ball offensively.

Now defensively they can stop anybody in the state. In my honest opinion I feel they have the best overall defense in our region. They are very solid at stopping the run and pass. They actually lead the county with 15 ints on the season. The defense has just fell victim to being on the field too long while the offense struggled.

If the team that has been playing for the last three games of the season shows up, Kell will have their hands full. I think SWD is potentially the most dangerous 4 seed in the playoffs.

WOW, you region 6 posters are out of this world. The number one thing that keeps your teams from winning numerous state championships is DISCIPLINE!!! Your teams don’t have any discipline, Franklin Stephens was the only one that half way decently instilled that into the Tucker program. When Marist was in this region they were the best Disciplined team out there but just didn’t have all the athletes that Stephenson, SWD, Mays, or Tucker has. I don’t care how many D1 athletes your teams have on them. If they don’t have any discipline they won’t get it done int he playoffs. I’ve seen it time and time again from the teams in Region 6. I’m not saying the teams aren’t good and can’t play, I’m just saying that if the teams were coached better and had a whole lot of discipline instilled into their programs they would probably be a few that would be unstoppable.

Kell over SWD- Much like the East/SWD from last year. Except Kell scores a few more points. 21-10
Stephenson over Pope- Pope makes it tough for the Jaguars. But Stephenson pulls it out 28-17

MLK over Sequoyah- MLK all over Sequoyah

Creekview over Tucker- Creekview can score some points, they played Kell pretty close this year. Creekview finds a way to win this one against the defending state champions. 31-24.

I’ve noticed your posts off and on for quite awhile. It is good to have a straight shooter commenting that can help fill in gaps in the story that numbers alone don’t tell. That offensive identity and defensive resolve will need to be on full display against Kell.

I’ve not seen Kell play this year but they have always been a well coached physical team that plays hard hard

I always try to be respectful of all programs and typically those that I’ve seen in person I come away with even more respect for win or lose. There has only been two schools that my respect factor has declined towards after facing them and the is Pebblebrook and Mays. I’m not talking about the kids and home the coaching staffs and administrators responsible. I hope my disdain for both programs will change over time but it will take a little bit v

I have seen plenty of film on these teams to make the predictions. But hey thats all they are, just predictions. Its highschool football, anything can happen that’s for sure. Northside has some injuries that could be key and could hurt them against a pretty decent effingham county team, coached by Rick Tomberlin who is no stranger to the playoffs and beating quality opponents. But I think Northside gets it done which will setup a huge matchup in the second round with a Thomas County Central team that is no stranger to the playoffs and winning state championships. But all of that was under Coach Ed Pilcher. Coach Shaver is looking to build is own legacy, and he has a yellow jacket team this year that has some Athletes on it. If the Jackets are able to get the Split Back Veer goin it could be a long night for the eagles. But no matter what, no one needs to over look this TCC football team.

Predictions for Region 5

East over Clarke Central- The Raiders need to score early and often against the Gladiators of Clarke Central. As always with East the game will be won up front on both sides of the ball. Clarke Central might be 5-5 but Coach Ryals will have his team ready to play when the come to Dallas. 31-7

Allatoona over Heritage of Conyers- Toona has the team to make some noise in the playoffs. If they find a way to get the ball down the field through the air watch out they will be a dangerous team. The Bucs are well capable of scoring from anywhere on the field with the 2 running backs they have. They are physical up front on offense and defense. Toona is just too much for Heritage. 31-17

Gainesville over Rome- The Wolves might be a year away from doing big things in the playoffs. They are very predictable on offense when. Their qb can make some good throws when he’s on. In the end, Rome just doesn’t have enough to get over the hump against the Red Elephants of Gainesville. 35-17.

North Paulding over Flowery Branch- This is my upset pick for the playoffs folks. North Paulding has been getting better and better as the year has progressed. What they lack on defense they make up for it on offense. Coach Jones has come in and ignited this North Paulding Football team. They are making their first appearance in the playoffs and they are gonna make it a memorable one. North Paulding upsets the Falcons of Flowery Branch in a barn burner. 42-38.

Well folks there ya have it, those are my predictions for this round. I have seen film on most of the teams to know a bit about them all and it let me to these predictions. But as I’ve said before, its high school football and anything can happen. Good luck to every team in Region 5.

@COWBELLMAN… I hear this “discipline” knock on teams in region 6 alot. What exactly is meant by that? Is it poor coaching? (because there is poor coaching in more than just region 6) Is it a sense of underachieving (because again there are plenty of teams with talent that don’t win like they should. NG, Norcross, Peachtree Ridge are a few to come to mind. Not to step on anybody toes.) Please define this term “undisipline” that I see so loosely thrown around when decribing region 6 teams.

Is Creekview offense run based or pass based?

Ill give you the “He’s got some Bells”‘award for your predictions.

I’d love to see North Paulding upset Flowey Branch and oddly it there are a couple factors that support your prediction. 1) motivation if playing against their former head coach. and 2) Flowery Branch is also a spread team that tries to out score their opponents. Yes North is improving but they really just don’t have the size and strength to stop many teams with their sieve of a defense. I don’t like saying that because it is now my other team but its just the truth. FB puts up 50+ and the Pack just won’t be able to keep up scoring 28 give Iif take a TD.

First of all, Creekview is a balanced football team. They like to run and throw the ball. I have seen them run a lot out of one back sets. The qb can sling the ball down the field to two pretty good WR’s.

Now for the Discipline explanation. It is the Coaches job to instill discipline into a kid. But if the kid doesnt care then he will not grasp it. Discipline is when its 3 and 1 or 4 and 1 and the opposing team lines up on offense and tries to get the defense to jump offsides. If your defense does this often then they have no discipline. If your team is being flagged for a noticeable amount of penalties that is because there is a lack of discipline. The May’s teams that have traveled to East to play in the playoffs in previous years lacked a lot of discipline. Coach Godfrey seems to do a decent job at SWD as far as discipline goes. Franklin Stephens did a good job at Tucker. Coach Gartrell seems to have a team full of D1 talent every year. Every year it seems like his teams aren’t disciplined enough to get themselves over the hump because they are making poor decisions down the stretch late in the games. We will see this year, truthfully the region used to always be between Marist and Tucker and the the rest never made any noise in the playoffs.

@ COWBELLMAN…

I would feel better about your NORTH PAULDING prediction if it was being played AT NORTH but it’s not…NORTH will have to play their A+++++ game to have ANY chance in this game! I went to the NORTH / ALLATOONA game (the week EAST played LITHIA SPRINGS, my 1st EAST game I missed in 6+ years LOL) I wanted to see ALLATOONA and see what EAST had coming the next week!

ALLATOONA didn’t disappoint…NORTH had NO answer for their offense…I haven’t seen FLOWERY BRANCH play BUT their scores this year seem to indicate they are able to score often! Their only 2 losses this year were to two AAAAAA teams…N.S.W.R. & WEST FORSYTH…

FLOWERY BRANCH also ALLOWED a lot of points in most of their games but can NORTH win in a shootout…Yes, NORTH did this against ROME losing in a 57 / 56 shoot out BUT that was in front of the HOME crowd and NOT in a playoff game!

Much as I would like to see NORTH win it’s first playoff game I can’t see it happening! More likely score to me would be…FLOWERY BRANCH 35 / NORTH 21!

Your other 3 predictions I AM WITH YOU!!!

ALLATOONA over HERITAGE OF CONYERS…in a close game!
GAINESVILLE over ROME…could be BIG!
and of course EAST over CLARKE CENTRAL!

You are way off base with the disipline issue. You talking about kids jumping offsides on 3rd and 1/4th and 1. That happens in the NFL too o_0

To me disipline is being where you are supposed to be when your supposed to be there, and doing what your supposed to be doing without having to be told.

You only need two things to be successful in football on any level

1. Proper preperation, i.e. being in the right positon to make a play(coaching)

2. The opportunity to make the play offensively or defensively

Also, you couldn’t have watched the same film I seen on Creekview. If you did you would have seen the level of competion. At some moments I thought I was watching 12U.

They did play Kell good, But they never had the lead at any point in the game. Who has Kell beat to make them legit? No one, they played in that same pancake region. They got torched in there non-region game 42-13 when they stepped up and played Lassiter !!!

I wouldn’t say that SWD has the best Defense in the region. They are good, but not the best. I have Tucker, MLK tied then SWD. Stephenson comes in last due to there secondary.

And SWD offesne is only good when they are not playing the other three playoff teams, so it’s hard to judge how good they are. MLK is the only team to have success agaisnt the other three.

Old Gold Panther

November 14th, 2012
10:36 am

@Tiger4Life…. MLK is the best defense in our region statistically so I’ll give u that. But I would give SWD a slight edge over Tuckers defense and heres why… Both teams are stout against the run with Tucker giving up 2.9 ypc and SWD giving up 3.1 ypc; but I feel that SWD defends the pass a little better than Tucker due to the fact that Tucker likes to run cover 0 alot and it leads to some blown coverages. Tucker has also given up more passing yards than SWD. Not by much though about 1214 to SWD 1041. SWD also has the advatange in int’s and sacks. All three defenses are very good though.

By know means am I saying SWD offense is good, (the potential is there) just noticed they have been playing solid ball since they have stuck with the same system.

Ok guys I’m gonna call it like I see it and will risk being removed from the site but I’m not gonna sit by any longer.

The term “discipline”‘ or “lack of discipline” as used by others on this blog when describing teams is a crock. We all know it is. Calling the Dekalb inner city teams “undisciplined” is simply saying that since their student athletes are predominately black that they play football and act in a predetermined and stereotypical way. My god we have have we not made any progress in our bigoted views in the past 150 years. We try hiding behind the slick phrases and think that that justifies it.

Here’s the deal. We can say that discipline is staying set when faced with a hard count by the opposing QB, and that is perhaps an example, but what I think we have to admit to ouselves is that even the best of kids get put in difficult situations when in the heat of battle on the field. The ability to exhibit self control, self discipline, and react in a manner that doesn’t hurt your team is a truer indicator of discipline. Not throwing fists, not getting that unsportsmanlike call, and not reacting to a perceived bad call from the referees by student, coaches, administrators and us as parents is the true sign if self awareness, character and yes discipline. Poor behavior on or off the field can not be tolerated, encouraged by us as the audience, or condoned by the coaches. None of this has a single thing to do with the color of someone’s skin or their gender. There are predominantly black teams that don’t do a good job teaching and expecting good behavior and there are predominately white teams that don’t do a good job of teaching and expecting good behavior.

Do something to stop the stereotypes and blog responsibly.

@ .RealisticFan…

I have to disagree with you here on your attempt to play the ‘RACE CARD”…UNCALLED FOR!!

COWBELLMAN has been posting in here for years! and he knows his football…If he offends you it is probably that he is not “dancing around the issue”…just calling it like it is!

It’s NOT just DeKalb Cty. teams…Take the GRAYSON / LOWNDES game of a few years ago…LOWNDES was taking cheap shots all night and when they knew they were beat at the end…they started a FIGHT…It’s on YOU TUBE so nobody has to challenge anybody…it happened and the coaches for LOWNDES were standing on the sidelines AND LET IT GO ON!!! They lost control of the team!!

MAYS tried the same crap a few years ago when they played MARIST, they got players suspended and then came to “THE BONEYARD” and tried the same thing with the EAST players!

IT does not matter what the color of the team is…if they do it CALL EM OUT FOR IT and if the COACH’S let em CALL THEM OUT FOR IT!!! These are KIDS and they need to be taught respect and while it ultimately falls to the parents to do this, while they are on that field it’s in the COACH’S HANDS!!!

If you go back and re-read many of the post thru the year a LOT of the REGION 6 posters are squawking about the bad coaching, bad play calling, etc. and it has nothing to do with race…just players not finishing a play or not wrapping up a tackle, or whatever. GET REAL MAN!!! this is a blog about HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL! I have NO INTENTION of getting drawn down the road you are trying to draw us down! RACE has NOTHING to do with anything we are discussing on here, Thru the years EAST has played teams that were for the most part all white and played teams that had maybe one white kid on them (LOL! I remember a team a few years ago EAST played that had ONE white kid period on it. BIG heavy boy (for you politically incorrect I didn’t say FAT and since I am also white I reserve the right to call him a boy)…LOL!) They parked this kid in the middle of the “O” line and dared you to run at him, guys were bouncing off him all night they couldn’t move him but run 3 or 4 steps either direction and he could not catch the defense…funny sight, it just came to mind.) Anyway the racial makeup of any of the schools is of course dictated by the communities in which the schools are located…DUH! That’s not something any of us control, it’s how the lines are drawn for each school district. Take that up with your BOE>

and Tiger4Life…TUCKER is heading up to play CREEKVIEW…I just looked at their website and I count 4 black kids PERIOD on the team and 1 black coach…oh and based on his name one Asian and one hispanic kid. You see how silly this is all beginning to sound?

Well, back to football, I believe one of the biggest factors that will influence how far our teams will go in dekalb and really any region for that matter is the play of our respective quarterbacks. We dont necessarily need for them to throw for massive yardage but all of our region 6 teams need big plays from our quarterbacks. In the playoffs you need to be able to run the ball and it makes so much easier when you can prevent teams from stacking the box by having a qb that can make a big throw or make a big run while under duress. Its gonna be cold friday night and believe me it will feel unbelievably cold if your team is losing playing one dimensional footbal. lol.

I think the best way to approach this is to simply say there will ALWAYS be SOME teams, and SOME coach’s, and SOME player’s who to put it mildly and to appease sensitive (thin-skinned) folks…STRETCH THE LIMITS / RULES! and to put it the way I (and many other posters would) play a style of football best described as UNDISCIPLINED or THUG BALL (a term used many times LAST year on this blog).

As long as the Schools, the Administrations, the Officials working the games, the G.H.S.A. and bottom line THE KID’S PARENT’S allow it to continue…IT WILL!!

This kind of play is tolerated and allowed to go on in the College level and the Pro level and these kid’s see it and think they can get away with it.

A suggestion from a long time poster on here…Let’s go back to talking about the match-ups and the games we all will be attending tomorrow and Sat. and leave these other discussions for another time and another blog!

Some good commentary in response to me keeping it real. Yes this needs to be about football, however football is often times a reflection of life and society, so the reality is that race, gender, politics and socio-economics all can come onto a discussion about which football team is best or which region. This is the reality and interestingly even in the responses you can detect certain undertones or overtones. Last thing I will say is the term you guys were looking for was Empathize, that is to show understanding and compassion for another, But to sympathize you need to walk in another’s shoes of which those from different races typically can’t do.

I will only slightly apologize because I think occasionally a deeper discussion on here is a good thing we can now go back to the endless banter about statistics and who’s gonna whoop who tonight. Good luck to all and safe travels.

Geat stuff bloggers! I been humored all season by some of you with your predictions, who plays where, and why this region is tough and your is weak. Let me say this, at the end of the day its about who won & who lost. Whether its by 1point or 50 points a lost is a lost. I have respected all you guys regions because the game is still played in the coaching box & on the field. With that being said, I strongly have to agree with some of bloggers stating that Region 6 5-A is probably the strongest region when looking on paper & the schools in that region are very very good. When you have the Regeinging State Champion Tucker losing 2 games then have to be on the road throughout the playoffs just to get back to the championship game, that is saying alot about that region.
Secondly with additions of MLK & Stephenson automatically said to me WOW! A good game every week like in the SEC college football. I am not talking about playoffs records or anything yet, all I am speaking on is the regular season playing 10 games. I think more focus to me and I live in Gwinnett county was on that region because of what teams played there. I felt for North Atlanta & Mays. They must have felt like the stepchild in that region.
Lastly I can honestly say I haven’t seen to many other teams play such as EP, NSWR, WR, TCC, Kell,Alltoona, NP, Northgate, Whitewater, ETC. But I will say those teams did something right to make the playoffs.
I am on track as I predicted for Region6 5-A to go 4-0 or 3-1 after this weekend though. Sorry SWD seem you were the first to get elimanted this weekend, but hopefully we can have your support as Region 6 5-A continue on the road to the Dome. Where there any upsets by the way? I know in Classification AAAAAA there were some really big upsets like Lowndes loosing, Valdosta, Lassiter, Walton, and few others. I know this not the blog for those teams but I just wanted to know if any happen tonite.
Thanks
