Lassiter had played varsity football for 38 seasons before winning a region championship or finishing a regular season 10-0. Those achievements came in 2009.
Now, the Trojans have reached a new milestone. They are the No. 1-ranked team in Class AAAAAA.
Lassiter takes on the top spot after previous No. 1 Camden County lost to Colquitt County 13-12 last week. Lassiter completed its second-ever 10-0 regular season with a 34-6 victory over Etowah.
Lassiter and Norcross are the only 10-0 teams in the highest classification entering the state playoffs, which begin this week. Lassiter had never been ranked in the top 10 until 2009, so the rise to the top has been quick and recent.
New to the rankings this week are South Gwinnett for Parkview in AAAAAA, Stephenson for Thomas County Central in AAAAA, Carrollton for Carver-Atlanta and Monroe Area in AAAA, Callaway for North Hall in AAA, Screven County for Cook in AA and Aquinas and Walker for Prince Avenue Christian and Savannah Christian in A.
The next rankings will be published after the state championship games Dec. 14-15 at the Georgia Dome.

Hey Jimmy…I’m not going to argue about which region is strongest. However, I will give you a simple math lesson. It’s so simple that even a guy from south ga might understand. There are 32 teams in the 6a playoffs & 4 of them are from region 1. What are the chances of one of those 4 teams win it all? Simply divide 4 by 32 and you will get the percentage chance…I’ll help you on this first one: there is a 12.5% chance one of the region 1 teams win it all. Therefore, there is an 87.5% chance they won’t. Good luck!

HS football fan by that simple math logic you just posted, that means if Alabama, thUGA, LSU, and Florida were in the Georgia High School 6A playoffs this year then each would only have a 12.5% chance of winning the state championship and 87.5 % chance of not winning. Okay, if you say so.

Camden and Lowndes have won 6 of the last 9 state championships in what was formerly AAAAA that is 66.6666% I would be willing to bet there is a better than 25% chance one of the region 1-AAAAAA teams is in the finals. Colquitt is the #4 team out of that region. There is not another #4 team in any region that can compete with them. I guarantee you McEachern is saying “great we win our region and have to face Colquitt in the first round, well at least we have them at home.”

You actually only get credit for 3 championships in the last decade. You guys made fun of Camden until they joined you this year, so you do not get to claim those. So, let’s split the difference & I’ll spot you a bit & give you guys a 20% or so chance, based on the last decade’s record. All I’m saying is no one has won yet, so quit bragging about something yet to be accomplished.

Congratulations Lassiter, now the pressure is on you. The Camden Wildcats have several things going for them.
1. They are very good on both sides of the ball.
2. They have great coaching.
3. There is no way in the world the Wildcats can get worse officiating in the play-offs compared to the officiating they got in Moultrie. The officiating in Moultrie was the worst I have ever seen in my life.
4. They have a great deal of play-off experience.
5. They are mad as heck and determined to win the next five games.

I’m not a Camden fan, I live in fla and follow Ga high school football and travel the state and watch big games when I can. There is no other region in the country like 1-AAAAAA. The ESPN announcer out of Orlando that travels the whole U.S. broadcasting H.S. games even said so. I know there are teams in other regions year in and year out that can also play with anyone but not on a consistent basis. I just looked at the other regions #3 & #4 records and none of the #1 seeds are fearing playing the #1 seed with the exception of McEachern. Coffee finished #5 in region 1-AAAAAA and they probably could beat several of the #2 seeds from some regions.

@ Columbia Blue == They are good but they will face some quality teams. When this is the case, Any Given Friday comes into play. As I stated before, if a passing team gets up on them early, it will be hard for the running team to get back in it especially if the have no Db’s. Region 4 teams can score and score quickly. We will see what transpires. Region 1 plays run D very well. I don’t think they have faced enough real passing teams to be proficient at pass defense Just my opinion.

Region 1 AAAAAA has teams that are very well balanced on offense. I do agree with one thing, any team can loose on any given Friday night. Have you seen Brunswick, Coffee, Valdosta play? Did you know Lowndes was behind to Valdosta at one point? Lowndes was also behind to Colquit at half time. Camden was behind to Lowndes albeit shortly.
So tell me. Just exactly who has Lovejoy played that is so awesome in running or passing. Especially passing since you think you have the upper hand in that area? Hmmm?

Worst case scenario, Region 1 will be in good shape. Every year – EVERY year – we all have to put up with some nonsense about a Cobb team being at or near the top of the rankings???? Why???? It has been 44 years since a Cobb team won the state championship. If you’re thinking that Lassiter has any chance at all – please re-read the previous sentence until you get it into your head that no, they do not. They went 10-0 and had a great season, but it was against the other dregs of Cobb/Cherokee County. Can we stop this charade every year, please? Who makes these polls up anyway? It’s not a knock against Lassiter. It’s a knock against Cobb. The football there is a step and a half below the rest of the state at the AAAAAA level.

Mr Sportsnut, you are an idiot. Last year your Lovejoy school had 5A numbers but competed in 4A. Don’t break your arm patting yourself on the back. You reaped the benefit of a sorry education program in your school when you lost accreditation. Maybe if teachers spent more time in the classroom and less time on the blogs this would improve. Numbers go up and down and all around but you still can’t win the big games. Region 2 stinks. Region 3 is even worse. You go 1-1 and only because Tri-Cities is terrible.

It’s amazing how much passion there is about HS football. I’ve played and watched HS football in GA since the early 1970s. I went to Lakeside, and I remember when nobody thought that new school in the middle of suburban GA couldn’t beat the traditional powers–until two state championships later and 15 total losses in the decade of the 70s.
Lassiter will have an opportunity to prove itself. However, they’ve quickly built a good pedigree. Last year they went on the road and beat three teams with combined records of 31-3–including teams built on a lot of speed (MLK, McEachern, Alpharetta.) This is clearly the best of their teams the past 5 years–solid in every area. Biggest challenge has been focus–have jumped on top of teams and not stepped on their throats. If everybody remains healthy, it will take any other team’s A game to beat them.

Too bad Lassiter won’t make it far in the tourney. They’re almost like the Oregon of GA HS football.
FWIW Todd – a couple corrections, the school opened in 1982, so it was 28 seasons before finishing 10-0. Also they were ranked in the top 10 quite a few times throughout the mid-late 90s and also early 2000s.

New kid on the block (Lassiter) and it’s just eating you guys alive. LOL. It doesn’t matter what any of you say our boys will get it done on the field, where it counts. They had a great run at the end of last year and it just continued this year. I guess MLK, McEachern, Alpharetta just rolled over and played dead last year. We were not suppose to beat Brookwood in the Corky Kell classic, we would lose to MLK, surely we would not beat McEachern, of course Alpharetta would stop us. We lost to Walton and we beat them this year. The same people who are talking now said we would lose to Hillgrove, Kell secondary was too good for us, and of course we would not be able to stop Milton running game. Our boys played the schedule given to them, with two good out of region games in Hillgrove and Kell.
I would like to say Congratulations to the Lassiter football team and to the coaches. Also, Congratulations to all 31 of the other teams who made it to the playoffs, all 32 teams earned it on the field.

See that Lassiter gets no credit for the following wins in the 2011 Playoffs:
Round 1: Alpharaetta (9-1)
Round 2: McEachern (10-1)
Round 3: MLK (12-0)
Yes, that’s the McEachern team that beat North Gwinnett and Lowndes (at Lowndes) in early 2011.
Yes, the MLK that beat Valdosta (at Valdosta), Stephenson, & Brookwood in 2011.

One other thing to think about……Cobb County has seen significant population growth since 1980 in terms of:
1) Overall population
2) Percentage of African Americans
Something to ponder…..take a look at the NCAA Football Championships won by the SEC vs the Big Ten prior to 1970. Now look at the number of National Championships won by each conference since 1970. Teams in the Big Ten when they won the NCAA Championship (AP, UPI or BCS) since 1971= 2. Teams in the SEC when they won the NCAA Championship (AP, UPI or BCS) since 1971= 14.
The historians know what I’m getting at…….Just saying, you have to take a more cerebral approach to explain why Cobb County Football is improving. It’s not going to happen overnight…….but an analysis of the “population” and “on-field” performance trends says a Cobb County Championship is coming…….The Cobb County Population is still growing pretty fast.

@BamaBornDukie excellent points. When Cobb County schools are projected over 2K they build a new school. Kell was built out of the Lassiter district. Lassiter and Kell student populations combined would equal the Gwinnett schools. Those two programs would make for a team that would be very hard to beat. I believe the the middle school football programs in this area deserve credit for the success in Cobb County. More kids than ever are playing football. The GMSAA does an amazing job getting the kids out to play football.
Good luck to all the teams.

Lassiter wont make it passed the 2nd round
Lassiter will lose to either brook wood or alp will beat Lassiter
Walton beat Brookwood and Lassiter dominated Walton. The word on these blogs is the Brookwood defense has some holes. Brookwood may score some points, but a defense with some holes is in for a long night.
Alpharetta lost to Milton. Lassiter scored 47 against Milton in a decisive come from behind win on the road.
Both of these playoff games would be at home for Lassiter. Folks making the above statements must not have seen Lassiter play. Although I have to admit I saw Alpharetta and Josh Dobbs on TV this past Friday and a 2nd round match up Alpharetta at Lassiter would be very entertaining. Like Brookwood, Alpharetta may score some points but Lassiter with more offensive balance and a better defense would still come out on top. I see Valdosta at Lassiter playing to come out of that bracket into the final 4. All I know about Valdosta is they come from arguably the toughest region in 6A and I expect they would be a formidable opponent.
Go Trojans!

If you are in the playoffs now, it doesn’t matter if you are ranked 1 or NR! It’s go time! I follow the AAAA classification as my home town Carrollton Trojans will make another run. Might be a good game with Marist in the 2nd round if we can get by Stephens County which won’t be easy.
The Creek, Burke and Marist seem like the teams to beat this year.
We all will see! Good luck to all the teams.

I would have never thought Colquitt would beat Camden, but they did. After going back and looking at their schedule you realize just how brutal it was week in and week out. They played 7 ranked teams. The overall schedule of teams they played was 71-29. They played 5 teams that were 9-1 with Colquitt dishing out 3 of those losses. I’m not a Colquitt fan just a Georgia football fan. I do know that if I saw them on my schedule in the playoff brackets I WOULD be concerned.
So to you Colquitt County Fans: I agrea they ain’t no joke!

In looking at Lassiter they played teams with a combined record of 49-51 with just one team finishing 9-1. The next best team was 7-3. The only way I see them going all the way is to outscore their opponents. I never count out a team that can throw the ball. Had they played Colquitt’ schedule I think they would have finished 8-2. They are a great team, and I’ll just watch the playoffs and let the playing do the talking. As long as their passing game is on, they have a chance against anybody.

Valdosta spanked by a total of two points. They did have a big lead buys that’s why you play a full game. We pretty much gave them the game with I think 5 turnovers. I believe we’d beat Valdosta in a rematch. Lowndes beat us by 3 and we were in their territory going for the win. North Gwinnett kicked a GW field goal to beat us by two and we played terrible. In our three losses that we played bad in, we got beat by a total of 7 points. When we play good, well you see what can happen. We have the team to win it all or we could play bad like we have before and go home after this after this game to mceachern, but I believe we’re ready. We play our best ball in the post season

Please stop Hating on Lassiter!!!!!!!! So I guess Hillgrove is slow? Didn’t they just put up 30 on Mceachern? Then they say Lassiter can’t beat a team in the top 10. But didn’t Lassiter beat Walton, who beat Mceachern & Brookwood? Point blank there is NO secondary that can stop they’re wr’s especially if #2 is healthy. Don’t sleep on Lassiter’s Defense either! Plus when you get to the playoffs speed & size can be neutralized by COACHING. Ask MLK(out coached), Mceachern(out coached), Alpharetta(out coached) Bigger, Stronger, Faster doesn’t always equate to being better!

bksmith14, Lassiter dominated Walton. I was there. It may not have shown in the final score as far as style points go but Lassiter controlled and dictated the game. The other scores you cited are simply Lassiter getting a comfortable lead and then going to the run game instead of embarrassing the opponent. They will rotate 2nd & 3rd stringers in/out which has allowed these inferior teams to appear to get back in the game. But believe it when I tell you Printz could have thrown for 400+ every week if they wanted to. When you see the stats that he threw for 260 and 3 TDs, that is usually by early to mid 3rd quarter. Come playoff time the gas pedal will stay all the way to the floor – and it will need to against better competition.
The “best secondary in state of Georgia” (Kell) was torched for 4 first quarter TD passes. The defense with the #2 prospect in the nation rushing the passer gave up 47 points and over 400 yards in the air to Lassiter. The best or at least the 2nd best (for ‘Cross fans) running back in Georgia was kept out of the end zone. Milton with 3 D1 OL propects and 2 D1 RBs was shut down in 2nd half to help setup the comeback win.
McEachern is getting well deserved respect on these blogs but one of their 2 losses was to the same Walton team which Lassiter soundly beat. One challenge Lassiter has not had to face is a QB and passing game to rival their own. Alpharetta would be that team. As noted earlier, that will be fun to watch and I will be there. Another challenge they have not seen is a suffocating defense like Grayson. I expect to see that matchup in the Ga Dome.

Hillgrove opponents finished 51-49 and Hillgrove gave up almost 20 points a game. I would not consider that a great defense. I don’t have a dog in the fight I just look at statistics and match ups. Besides they finish 6-4. Beating Hillgrove is nothing to really write home about. They averaged giving up 34.5 points a game in their 4 losses.

While McEachern does score a lot of points per game around 37 they also give up a lot 23 per game. So I don’t think a team without a great defense can win state. Grayson, Camden, Lowndes, Lovejoy possiby Norcross all have solid defenses. Lassiter gives up 14 per game but considering their offense averages around 36 that’s a 22 point cushion.

I am sure somebody out there has combined records of opponents of all teams in playoffs and would guess that most of them are between 47 and 53 winning percent. You only need to look at the standings for each region to see regions are mostly comprised of 3 good teams, 3 bad teams, and a couple in the middle. When you play all the teams in your region the W-L record is going to just about zero itself out. So what would tip the overall record of a teams opponents is out of region games which for travel reasons often includes teams in other classifications. The outliers in this I would guess is the regions 1 & 8 teams where you have 5 or more quality teams that are winning all of their out of region games. So unless a team has played a schedule against teams with a 65% or more winning or losing percentage, I do not see where it does much more than give us something to talk about on these blogs.
I put more value in if team A beat team B and team B beat team C then I expect team A to beat team C. It is not always that simple though.

Heisenberg, I agree with most what you say. I just started it off earlier pointing out that Colquitt really played the toughest schedule in the state losing 3 games by a total of 7 points and played 5 teams that finished 9-1 with them dealing out 3 of those defeats. I think they are capable of going all the way, but then again they did lose 3 games so they are also capable of losing.
I love statistics, but you know what, statistics don’t play the game. But when I see a team only giving up 7-9 points a game I know those stats came about because they have a good defense. I believe that 4 of the states 6 classifications will be won with good defense.

One score that opens my eyes is from a game played just 10 days ago, and it should concern some of the folks posting here: Lassiter 28, Roswell 14. Roswell was 2-6 heading into that game at Lassiter. The same week, Grayson beat Archer 48-0; that would be 6-3 Archer at the time, which lost to Parkview and Brookwood by a combined three points. In the two previous weeks, Lassiter gave up 53 points combined to Milton and Wheeler. Grayson gave up 47 total in its last SEVEN games. And that’s just a comparison to Grayson. Lassiter hasn’t even played a game this season against anyone currently ranked in the AAAAAA Top Ten. Conclusion: Lassiter might be the weakest No. 1 team heading into the playoffs this state has ever seen.

The only other team that can even sniff at the #1 ranking would be Norcross and considering their resume it would have been understandable if they would have leap-frogged into that spot. Lassiter can use the respect angle as motivation. As for Norcross, I get the impression they do not care about it and are content with playing it out on the field.

I had on both Alpharetta/Johns Creek and Parkview/S Gwinnett Friday night. Alpharetta/Johns Creek was certainly more entertaining and Josh Dobbs is the real deal.
Was not quit sure what to make of Parkview/S Gwinnett. I had not previously seen either play but was aware of their body of work. Jordan Ramey is a good athlete but his throwing motion reminded me of Philip Rivers and there was room for improvement in his accuracy. But maybe the Parkview defense should get the credit for that. Parkview looked a bit 1 dimensional on offense but maybe the was the SG defense.
I sense the Parkview team I saw Friday would lose on the road to a Walton team with a healthy TJones playing. But the Parkview team that upset Grayson earlier this year would beat Walton easily.

Sportsnut. Not too sure about that. Valdosta and Colquitt are teams that both pass and run effectively and can play from behind. Lowndes and Camden are stout defenses that keep opposition scores down, so their offense can eat up time. Lowndes has come from behind twice this year, both in the fourth quarter. Stephenson the QB for Lowndes had his worse game of the year against Camden, and if he plays how he played against Valdosta and Colquitt, Lowndes can come from behind. But only time will tell now. Its one game at a time. And right now Lowndes is focused on Marietta. We will worry about Lovejoy, Grayson or NG when the time comes. Best of luck to all the teams. Especially Norcross, cause they are going to see what real football is when they meet Camden. Kamara wont get 30yards of rushing that game. And thats being generous

Oh that is right Fred. S Gwinnett win over Parkview moved Grayson out of the Camden/Norcross bracket. I think in my mind I still had them in there.
Taking a second look at the bracket cold make for some nice north/south matchups: Grayson vs Lowndes, Camden vs Norcross, Cloquitt vs McEachern, & Lassiter vs Valdosta.
I see where Wheeler got the 4th slot (apparently without mini games) from region 5 for the right to be slaughtered by Grayson. Wheeler is not good on defense but they have some speed on offense at multiple positions. Their QB is like 9 foot 6 inches tall and looks like he can run sideline to sideline in about 4 strides. He can throw it OK too and Wheeler receivers can make tough catches.

The very next year you loose again and now Lowndes is stealing signs. Remember every coach that sends signs in, changes them regularly. Your coach is so arrogant that he hasn’t changed them in two years. Come on anyone with a third grade education can steal signs two years old. And remember its not illegal to steal signs. Everyone from NCAA to the NFL does it. Remember GHSA stated they found no wrong doing. So just live with with it and move on. Cause next year your gonna Lose again.

Seriously, we have been up against so great athletic QBs this year and have mostly done a good job. As I have said before, it is hard to be accurate while running for your life or laying on your back. Our D line and backfield compliment each other. So other than Tifton, there wasn’t a cake walk in that region on any given night. I’m not saying that a team from this region will win the state hands down, I’m just making the remark that these 4 teams in the state playoffs are all battle tested. @ Colquitt Fan – We are in the same region and I wish you guys the best, but werebyou at the Coquitt/Valdosta game. The only reason Colquitt came back was because the Valdosta coach took his foot off the gas pedal. Valdosta didn’t throw a pass the entire second half!! Valdosta did whatever they wanted against Colquitt. I know Colquitt feels they could’ve won that game, but had the Valdosta coach not acted like a fool in the 2nd half, Valdosta would have scored 50 or 60pts. Also, Colquitt hasn’t beaten Valdosta in 3yrs!!
@Heisenberg – The Valdosta 28-24 loss to 2A Brooks County was the Boise State win over Oklahoma some years back. No slight to Brooks, but they were alot more fired up to play Valdosta than Valdosta was to play them. This Valdosta team is very young and still learning how to go about their business week in and week out.

Regarding Kamara, gap integrity and playing stout assignment football can bottle him up….BUT he returns kicks and catches passes also. He is certainly not just a runner, and if your defense misses a tackle in open space kiss him good bye. I’ll say the same for Autry. When Kamara hits the hole he is like a flash of lightning…here one minute and gone the next. If he hits the edge and the defense doesn’t contain, kiss him goodbye. There’s not a secondary player in the state that can catch him once he’s in open space. No team is unbeatable and no player is unstoppable. To think so is childish and wishful thinking. Each match up has its own dimensions and game plan, so comparing wins a losses between team “x” and team “y” is useless. Just admit you don’t know what will happen and you’re desperately hoping your team will win.

Or are just like alot of other South Georgia posters who type some ignorant post and try to pass it as fact. Number 1, our O-line is better than any line I have watched in Region 1. They are big, athletic and well-coached. Number 2, when we arrived down in Moultrie for our pre-season game a lot of their fans thought they were going to bottle Kamara up as well. He took the first off tackle 64 yards and had three more runs of 50+ yards. I can guarantee you one thing, he will beat anyone on Camden’s team in a foot race. If Cole Seagraves, ran one from 60 yards out, I don’t believe Alvin Kamara will have any trouble getting to the end zone. Oh and if you are thinking that loading the box will shut us down we will burn you with the pass.
Norcross is better than Camden and you shall see in three weeks if you get that far.

WOW…bksmith14 has spoken and we might as well not even play the games. Lets just let him decide who will win the championship and we don’t even have to go through all this stuff. NOT!!! bksmith14…it is obvious that you are young by the way you type and speak. You need to grow up, boy. By the way…there is a reason why they play the games. ANYONE can beat any team any given week. Just look at what Lassiter was able to accomplish as a number 4 seed last year. Even the McEachern coach was overheard after the game saying “they were better than we thought they would be”.
So, let me give you a little advice. Support your team and stop blasting and putting down other teams. This is HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL!!!

The Cross. First off I am a Lowndes Fan. And we have one of the best defenses in the state. I have watched film on Norcross, you can have the big, athletic guys all day long. Our D Line is athletic and quick. Also our secondary is very quick. You might burn us once, but then again any secondary can get burnt once during a game. But you will not have Kamara running all over the field. Just ask Camden. JJ and Williams both were held under 30. Kamara will not get to the edge, and he will not run a 64 or anything over 50 against Lowndes D or Camdens. Seagraves run was a fluke, and he only got there because of the support down field, other wise he only runs for a max of 15. But we will see, I will let you sit on your soap box, and gloat about how Norcross is the Best, and beat you chest and anything else you want to do. When you meet Camden. Till then best of Luck.

You guys beat your chest so much that I wouldn’t be surprised if the hospitals check alot of you boys in with a bruised heart. Your loyalty towards your team is something to be admired however your arrogence about your regions and teams are nauseating. I purposeful write MOSt of my posts over the top arrogant and confrontational as a spoof on the South Georgia posters because that is 75% of what I read from you. I don’t have any clue what is going to unfold over these next 5 weeks, but I do know football and I have watched a lot of teams and I will say when Norcross brings it’s “A” game I have yet to see a team that is better. They are solid in most every facet of the game and I believe we will be a very tough out for anyone…including Camden. Camden did not play their best last Friday and if they were to play that way against Norcross we would have beaten them by a minimum of two scores. I have seen us play below our potential as well and fortunately it has not cost us a game so far. My only point is that EVERY Region 1 supporter who truly believes that ALL Region 1 teams are better than the other 28 in this tournament, I believe you guys are in for a rude awakening and your awakening might start Friday.

I believe Lassiter as well as everyone else has a lot to prove…what happened so many years ago doesn’t have any impact on what happens going forward. The only teams that can claim benefit from their championship is the schools who won over the last 2 years as their Seniors know what the pressure & the feeling of winning a championship feels like. PackDaddy is right on one point. Loveyjoy did have AAAAA numbers last year and was in AAAA. Lovejoy was in the highest classification 7 of the last 11, SO WHAT. I think Pack Daddy’s and the others point to you is. You’ve made it past the first round twice (in the years you made it to the play offs) and the only time you made it past the second round was last year when you had 5A numbers in the 4A division. Sportsnut – It’s going to take more than your mouth to impress people. Beat Lowndes in the second round, then we’ll talk. For now I agree with others. Lovejoy will go 1 and out and only because they play Tri-Cities.

I am sure Norcross has a great team. It will be a great game if Camden and Norcross play each other. I personally believe region 1 AAAAAA is the best in the state. Ask yourself a question, how many QUALITY teams did Norcross play in their region? Would you like to play Camden, Lowndes, Valdosta, and Colquitt in consecutive weeks? After last Friday night the Camden Wildcats will not take anything for granted. If you do not come to play in region 1 AAAAAA you will be watching the play-offs on TV. Camden and Norcross will be a great game. Our defense is the real deal.

Lol. ‘ll back you up on that cross. It it is pretty disturbing that people actually think that have an easy road in the playoffs and they think norcross is just a wasted team that has a bad history. Norcross is a team that can make consecutively into playoffs year after year. Norcross is a school with loads of talent. In football and Basketball. we are known for our atheltics in different areas. now saying that grayson and camden are the better team i can agree with you. Now saying that norcross cant make it to the dome and win well im going to disagree with you. Norcross is quite as good as a grayson camden or a lassiter and if i might say they are the most dangerous teamsin AAAAAA. so as far track records are concerned, last time i checked it’s 2012 and the past doesnt mean anything. These kids were born on the feild this year and they will live their lives this friday, one game at a time. So it doesnt matter if you wear columbia blue, maroon, navy, or green. Their is only 1 team right now in gwinnett that may be better than lowndes and its not by much if they are…its a team loaded with d -1 talent.Grayson….lowndes does more with LESS……we dont have but maybe 2 guys who may go d-1 on this team.

I really dont see how “the cross” can say that norcross is the best. The four teams they beat that are in the playoffs, “south gwinett, north gwinett, parkview and collins hill”. The only one of those that will make it past the first or second round will be North Gwinett. When you look at Norcross they have the 5th best offense, 6 best defense and supposedly 27 hardest schedule. I dont see that one. With Lowndes and Camden 13 & 5 best offense, 5 and 2 best defense, 49 and 30 hardest schedule. The points for and against are all with in 5. The main difference is the win loss records of those who made it to the playoffs and those who didnt. Lowndes and Camden records are pretty much identical. Teams they played who made it to the playoffs are 23-7, and those who didnt are 22-48. Compared to Norcross those that made it are 30-10 and those who didnt are 15-45. The difference in number is Parkview is 7-3 and went towards the playoff numbers. So Norcross, Camden, Lowndes and Grayson right now are pretty much a wash. The huge difference will be experience in the playoffs, and who can perform with pressure.. We will see… Only three out of the four have the history of that…

They all play each other in the high school SEC don’t they? I wonder if their weak schedule strength means that they all are weak? I believe it does. Pretty easy to build great stats against weak opponents.

DOSTA DAWGS, thanks for the Valdosta/Brooks interpretation. Young teams in high leverage situations can be very unpredictable. Will they be oblivious to the pressure and play over their heads? Or will they wilt and get upset early? If Valdosta makes it that far, their date with Lassiter will be on Lassiter home field.
I have driven I-75 enough to know that is around a 3 hour bus ride from just north of the Florida border to the northwestern ‘burbs of Atlanta. Even in a nice bus, after one of those rides the legs lose some bounce. You do not want to try to contain the Lassiter offense with bounceless legs. Northern Georgia teams seeded 3 & 4 will get the same heading down south as well. That could be just enough of an advantage for McEachern in round 1.

And don’t be mad a Rush cause he didn’t beat u guys Pearson did. He’s the defensive cord who had our guys in the right place all night long. Camden74-The recipe to beat Camden has been spelled out. Camden is good but highly vulnerable. Norcross is playing at a much higher level than any Norcross team from the past. This senior group has only lost twice from 8th grade until now. You can live in the past if you’d like, but we choose to live in the here and now. The Gwinnett team’s are playing the best football in the state and we will bring the hardware home to Gwinnett for the third year in a row.

The Cross…….You should know this, there’s a world of difference between regular season and the playoffs. Winning five straight games in the regular season is child’s play compared to winning five straight in the playoffs! Once you get past the first round, everyone has a chance to knock you off. For the less powerful teams, every game is their championship. Your team has to be mentally prepared and keep their heads in the game until the final seconds tick off the clock. It’s not as easy as many make it seem! Believe me, experience does count. The pressure starts to build with every game, not only on the players, but coaches as well. The teams with the experience will be better prepared as they advance further into the rounds. IMO, Norcross won’t be able to handle the pressure! Only time will tell……Release the CATS!

Bk-You couldn’t make me back peddle with a bulldozer. I stand by my opinion that Norcross is the best team in the state. I also know that they are 16-18 year olds who could have a let down with the pressure of these next five weeks. I know that you blowhards from south Georgia know that because according to you if you guys didn’t have a let down you would have won it for the last two years which you clearly have not. Norcross is a better team than anything I have seen in region 1 and I have watched every playoff team play at least twice. So play your baby games Bk because Grayson will eventually take you out if you aren’t already gone and Norcross will beat Camden in round 3.
I am sorry but my honest opinion is that region 1 is OVERRATED.

I wonder if all of these loud mouthed cross fans have forgotten they beat region ones fourth seed on the last play of the game… “So what?” You say. “That was a scrimmage game. The Cross has gotten much better since then.” So has Colquitt, and there are arguably three teams from region one that are better than them. Keep thinking we’re inferior and you’ll get a good old fashion South Georgia butt whuppin.

again cross ….you show so MUCH confidence in norcross that you want even bet on it. its ok….you cant bet while you are in looney land…when you get back to earth let me know. Grayson is the ONLY team in my opinion that can possibly put lowndes out. I wouldnt count on lovejoy doin it. I just watched the lovejoy and ware game from last year…sportsnut has already said lovejoys d is not quite what they were last year….that means trouble then bc lowndes is better than they were last year when they beat ware 38-17…
the lowndes defense is much better than last years …and the offense is better also..anything can happen…..marietta first and then lovejoy gets to see speed …speed…speed

Camden74-The only rabbits we need are #6 and #5 and they’ll be running behind five HOGS and your Camden boys haven’t seen that type of speed all year. Alvin Kamara 4.38 in the 40. Your guys blink and he is standing in the end zone waving. We have a special playoff jersey for him it says HELLO on the front of the jersey and GOOD-BYE on the back.
South Georgia is good….but Gwinnett is GREAT!!!!!

@FridayNightLightsFan….Hope they cover the 10 and 40 before the rain sets in. We will have a guest from a university in the house and don;t need anymore slipping. Your question from yesterday would be a large one. Good practice and getting focused. Looks like a couple more weeks of football the way their playing. Camden74-Are you telling me that Camden has sub 4.4 players? Does Herron make them play with weight vest on because they looked so slooooow vs. Colquitt and Lowndes? Seagraves runs a like a 5.2 and nobody on Camdens D could seem to catch him!!!!!!

I think that best games will be between Region 1 and Region 4 because McEachern is really good and so is Hillgrove. I expect Lowndes to stomp Marietta, but Valdosta may have trouble with North Cobb. We’ll see on Friday. Go cats!

I think Camden fans are missing one thing and that’s how the cats will react after losing a heartbreaker. I hope they put that game out of their heads. If I were the coach I wouldn’t have even shown them the film. Note the corrections that need to be made and move on. It’s a new season!

Tri-Cities gave Lovejoy all it could handle last season before losing 24-20. They still have that huge line and Lovejoy will need to play a smart game. Surviving the first round will not be a cakewalk. We are not as good as our record indicates. We have not played anyone, and that includes Colquit. We have a tough draw in the brackets. North Gwinnett, Lowndes, Marietta, Grayson and Johns Creek ! If we can make it out of this bracket, we deserve to be in the Dome. Tough job though. I don;t know if we have what it takes since this is big boy football and we have never played with them before. I hope we can hold our own. There seems to be so much talent out there. Grayson and Lowndes with their lofty status and the Wing T. Marietta and North Grinnett with their passing games and big time Qb’s. What on earth shall we do ? It is already common knowledge on these blogs that the final 8 will be Region 1 vs Gwinnett County and I can see why. They have the best football in the state of Georgia and the football knowledgeble people who indulge in this frivolity have spoken and their word is bond. Thanks to all of you who have allowed me to conversate with you on this most prized subject.

The day of reckoning is finally here! After this weekend, half of the playoff teams will be headed home to start basketball season. The smack talking from the regular season will be a thing of the past for some. Only a handful of the faithful will remain. Who will hoist the Title Trophy in Class 6A? Will it be Camden, Grayson, Lowndes, Lassiter, Colquitt, Norcross or a surprise dark horse that shocks everyone? Will the Gwinnett Teams lay claim to another 6A Title or will Region 1 step up and turn the tide? Will a Cobb or Dekalb Team make it’s presence felt? No one knows for sure, so stay tuned. The answers to these questions start tonight! If you have a weak constitution, maybe you should leave the comments section prior to tonight’s games. Because there will surely be some last minute, last time of the season for some, SMACK TALKING! Can you take the HEAT? Release the CATS! Go Camden County Wildcats!
