Poll Talk: Lassiter takes over at No. 1 in AAAAAA

Lassiter had played varsity football for 38 seasons before winning a region championship or finishing a regular season 10-0. Those achievements came in 2009.

Now, the Trojans have reached a new milestone. They are the No. 1-ranked team in Class AAAAAA.

Lassiter takes on the top spot after previous No. 1 Camden County lost to Colquitt County 13-12 last week. Lassiter completed its second-ever 10-0 regular season with a 34-6 victory over Etowah.

Lassiter and Norcross are the only 10-0 teams in the highest classification entering the state playoffs, which begin this week. Lassiter had never been ranked in the top 10 until 2009, so the rise to the top has been quick and recent.

New to the rankings this week are South Gwinnett for Parkview in AAAAAA, Stephenson for Thomas County Central in AAAAA, Carrollton for Carver-Atlanta and Monroe Area in AAAA, Callaway for North Hall in AAA, Screven County for Cook in AA and Aquinas and Walker for Prince Avenue Christian and Savannah Christian in A.

The next rankings will be published after the state championship games Dec. 14-15 at the Georgia Dome.

Redcoat-Monroe should be able to handle Shaw. You have to stop a fast and shifty QB-a pretty good passer too.

ColumbiaBlue-Norcross happened to play 5 playoff teams this year and their strength of schedule is comparable to Camden’s. I respectfully disagree about Region 1. But I am biased about Gwinnett County Football, I am a realist and I do believe Camden vs. Norcross will be a close, great game with the winner making the fewest mistakes. Norcross is very explosive and I think will be a great match up with Camden’s great defense.

Bk-must have been an early night at the king drive through. My over the top behavior was an attempt to mock the arrogance that most fans in South Georgia possess. It doesn’t however diminish my confidence in Norcross who I still believe has the best team in the State. But, they are 16-18 year olds who could have an off night an get beat. Just like any region 1 teams.

Sounds pretty moronic does it not? It is so funny how your blind faith and Loyalty causes you to blather your stupidity on here. Gwinnett has 5 teams better than Lowndes…FIVE! There is a reason that Gwinnett has won the last two trophies in AAAAA and will win another this year in AAAAAA.

I also read another one of your posts that was a lot more truthful that read and I quote “I am just an idiot…please Bk do not sell yourself short sir, You are a TREMENDOUS IDIOT!

Colquitt County vs. McEachern in round…wow, what a way to start the playoffs! McEachern has some scary fast guys that can light it up. I haven’t seen Colquitt this year, but they’re always tough and have to be confident after beating Camden County last week. I’d love to catch the game but will be watching Lassiter host Brookwood. We shocked everyone by beating them in the Dome last year when they were defending State Champs, and know they’d love to pay us back this year. Coach Irwin will have the kids ready to play. Go Trojans!

I told my Norcross Blue Devils to wear tight pants and continue to work on their glutes because Camden is going to be behind them in the polls the rest of the way and I want your boys to have something good to look at!!!!!

The article states 38 seasons for Lassiter — I am wondering how the math works to get that high of a number when Lassiter was not built until 1981 or 82 (approx 30 yrs ago).

Lol. ‘ll back you up on that cross. It it is pretty disturbing that people actually think that have an easy road in the playoffs and they think norcross is just a wasted team that has a bad history. Norcross is a team that can make consecutively into playoffs year after year. Norcross is a school with loads of talent. In football and Basketball. we are known for our atheltics in different areas. now saying that grayson and camden are the better team i can agree with you. Now saying that norcross cant make it to the dome and win well im going to disagree with you. Norcross is quite as good as a grayson camden or a lassiter and if i might say they are the most dangerous teamsin AAAAAA. so as far track records are concerned, last time i checked it’s 2012 and the past doesnt mean anything. These kids were born on the feild this year and they will live their lives this friday, one game at a time. So it doesnt matter if you wear columbia blue, maroon, navy, or green. The team who shows up. Wins. Simple as that

Cross…..i will offer you this bet again ..in front of everyone on here to see it. last time you ran like a lil girl, i will bet you $1000 that norcross will not make it to dome.which means they will lost to either colquitt or camden. Leave lowndes out of this….this is about norcross only since they are so good.

Their is only 1 team right now in gwinnett that may be better than lowndes and its not by much if they are…its a team loaded with d -1 talent.Grayson….lowndes does more with LESS……we dont have but maybe 2 guys who may go d-1 on this team.

norcorss sure as heck isnt better than lowndes.nor camden..or colquitt.

I really dont see how “the cross” can say that norcross is the best. The four teams they beat that are in the playoffs, “south gwinett, north gwinett, parkview and collins hill”. The only one of those that will make it past the first or second round will be North Gwinett. When you look at Norcross they have the 5th best offense, 6 best defense and supposedly 27 hardest schedule. I dont see that one. With Lowndes and Camden 13 & 5 best offense, 5 and 2 best defense, 49 and 30 hardest schedule. The points for and against are all with in 5. The main difference is the win loss records of those who made it to the playoffs and those who didnt. Lowndes and Camden records are pretty much identical. Teams they played who made it to the playoffs are 23-7, and those who didnt are 22-48. Compared to Norcross those that made it are 30-10 and those who didnt are 15-45. The difference in number is Parkview is 7-3 and went towards the playoff numbers. So Norcross, Camden, Lowndes and Grayson right now are pretty much a wash. The huge difference will be experience in the playoffs, and who can perform with pressure.. We will see… Only three out of the four have the history of that…

It is funny that with all the arrogance and chest pounding about how great region 1 is, everyone from region 1 still have some of the weakest schedules of all the playoff teams. Curious isn’t it? They all play each other in the high school SEC don’t they? I wonder if their weak schedule strength means that they all are weak? I believe it does. Pretty easy to build great stats against weak opponents.

Sorry Bk tricks are for kids.

DOSTA DAWGS, thanks for the Valdosta/Brooks interpretation. Young teams in high leverage situations can be very unpredictable. Will they be oblivious to the pressure and play over their heads? Or will they wilt and get upset early? If Valdosta makes it that far, their date with Lassiter will be on Lassiter home field.

I have driven I-75 enough to know that is around a 3 hour bus ride from just north of the Florida border to the northwestern ‘burbs of Atlanta. Even in a nice bus, after one of those rides the legs lose some bounce. You do not want to try to contain the Lassiter offense with bounceless legs. Northern Georgia teams seeded 3 & 4 will get the same heading down south as well. That could be just enough of an advantage for McEachern in round 1.

Wow u Camden people don’t handle a lose that well but check this out. Looks like Seagraves out played Ramsey and it wasn’t even close. As a matter of fact Seagraves out played the whole Camden offense=Seagaves 304 yrds of offense and Camden 306 yrds of offense as a team but i know it was because of the refs right. And don’t be mad a Rush cause he didn’t beat u guys Pearson did. He’s the defensive cord who had our guys in the right place all night long. So it wasn’t your coach being too consevative it was just being very well prepared!!!!

@Heisenberg – True about heading south but Rush normally takes the team out of school a day early and comes up on Thursday before a Friday game. I think I heard he did the same when they went to Camden and he took them fishing or some such. I wasn’t there so I make no claim as to the truth of that story but I do know that he will come to Atlanta a day early. I’ve not heard of Atlanta teams taking an extra travel day bit it could happen.

They save babies from burning cars and help old ladies across the street. Alcovy and Rockdale Bow down to the perfectionist image of camden co. We might as all give up go home. Camden co just has such an easy road ahead of them. Maybe we can look forward to tennis. Uh oh here come columbia blue with Roger federer. Get real camden co. The Cross……First things first. I’ve NEVER at any time said Camden could not be beat. Here’s what I did say and I still believe the same. I NEVER expect Camden to lose. That doesn’t mean they won’t/can’t lose. At the beginning of every game, I’m seeing victory. That’s just the way I think!

Now, let’s take a look at your Norcross heroes. If past playoff performances is an indicator, your beloved Devils will be exiting or will have excited by the 3rd round. So whatever you won on earlier games, if I were you, I’d hold on to it as though it was life itself. But who knows, maybe if you cripple enough rabbits, y’all might have a chance! Release the CATS! These kids were in middle school. they know nothing of the past. This is a different team. This is isnt a job interview where your record hurts, They have the number one seed and they have been winning their games. It’s gonna be tough to tell a player on norcross that they can’t do it because their playoff record sucks.

Camden74-The recipe to beat Camden has been spelled out. Camden is good but highly vulnerable. Norcross is playing at a much higher level than any Norcross team from the past. This senior group has only lost twice from 8th grade until now. You can live in the past if you’d like, but we choose to live in the here and now. The Gwinnett team’s are playing the best football in the state and we will bring the hardware home to Gwinnett for the third year in a row.

I know it hurts to know that region 1 is second best, but look at the bright side you have all of this championships in the past.

The Cross….There’s one thing we are in agreement with, Gwinnett Teams are definitely playing at a high level! But there’s only one Gwinnett Team that plays GREAT defense. In my opinion, Grayson is the only Gwinnett Team with a chance to raise the Championship Trophy. As far as Camden is concerned, it’s just the matter of a stubborn Head Coach deciding to STOP being stubborn! He has great talent on both sides of the ball. Camden has the talent, the discipline, desire and the leadership to win the 2012 Class 6A State Title! Let’s see what happens…….Release the CATS! :-D

The Cross…….You should know this, there’s a world of difference between regular season and the playoffs. Winning five straight games in the regular season is child’s play compared to winning five straight in the playoffs! Once you get past the first round, everyone has a chance to knock you off. For the less powerful teams, every game is their championship. Your team has to be mentally prepared and keep their heads in the game until the final seconds tick off the clock. It’s not as easy as many make it seem! Believe me, experience does count. The pressure starts to build with every game, not only on the players, but coaches as well. The teams with the experience will be better prepared as they advance further into the rounds. IMO, Norcross won’t be able to handle the pressure! Only time will tell……Release the CATS! :-D
