Let today be the start of it all. With the exception of a couple possible mini games on Monday, this is it. Discounting the mini’s, the brackets will be filled. Time for the rhetoric to cease. Next we find out the truth. So much talk about who is going to do what and who is better than whom. The best time of year is here. All season, we have followed our favorite teams and now it is time to see if all the talk was just smoke. There will be upsets. Big ones. I hope my team does not end up being on the losing side. Many feel as though they are immune. This is a good attitude to have in terms of confidence but over confidence is not good. Lessons will be taught and lessons will be learned. I am looking for many good games and hope all are safe in their travels and that the players are healthy and remain that way. Good luck to all tonight and to those who will be continuing next week.

Same thing happened to EAST in the 2010 season…had the split region and EAST at 7 / 2 had to GO TO a 5 / 4 DOUGLAS COUNTY! EAST won but it was not right, especially having to travel with the best record!

Looking forward to a great Hillgrove/McEachern game tonight. For anybody going, the game has been moved to McEachern, presumably to accomodate the anticipated large crowd. Smart move.

@ Cannon == Thats bad. There has to be another way to settle situations like that. I don’t see why they can’t just take the top two from each sub-region. I would like to know why it is done this way. Maybe Todd or Chip can inform us as to why.

@ sportsnut The system is what it is be the top team on your side of the region and you’re in win or lose. If you are a good team its all about the playoffs anyway from here on out win or go home………………

@ Sportsnut
The subdivided regions have playin games in one of two formats. Both designed to try and ensure that the best 4 teams from the overall region go to the playoffs.
Method 1
The winner of each subdivision play for the region championship but both teams make the playoffs the other two #2 and #3 teams cross play and the winners advance. In this method as many as 3 teams from one subregion can go to the playoffs
Method 2
This is a straight cross playoff between the top 4 of each sub region. #1’s vs #4’s and #2’s vs #4’s. winner take all and advance. Theoretically at 4-5,team could upset a 9-0 team and the 9-0 team would miss the playoffs. This is the method that Reg5AAAA used the last two years and both times it was a clean sweep by the Northern sub region over the Southern. It compensates for all the tough teams being in on sub region and helps make sure the best are in the playoffs. Nerve racking yes but it certainly makes sure the team is in the right mindset for that final regular season game.

Colquitt and Camden will be an interesting game tonight. I am curious how hard Camden plays it as they have the top seed already in hand. Camden has not been in a close game this year so if the game is close, how much will they show to get a win. Colquitt has played Camden close the last two times they have met in the playoffs, getting a win last year. This time they are playing at Colquitt so that will add a bit to their effort. I think it is important for Colquitt to play a solid game as they have not played well against teams that have been on their level and a loss would be their 4th. If Colquitt gets beat badly, I would not be surprised to see them lose in the first round of the playoffs.

They have looked pretty good most of the game. A couple bad penalties…though a face mask that was called was called form 20 yards away and not be the ref looking at the play 5 yards away so…
Good mix of run and pass and the D has been very solid. Given up a couple longer runs, but held them to 2 FG so far (both 40+ yards, so that is just a good kicker for Etowah).

I know the QB helped lead the JV to a 6-1 season and a guy I work with also refs., He did a couple of the games and said he looks like he can turn into a very good QB (maybe not same level as Printz or Mason) but he can definitely run the offense. What little I saw of the 1nd team D that was in looked like tey know assignments. Gonna have to have some play makers step in in the front 7 especially. I think Fabiniak (sp?) and Murphy will allow for anyone else in the secondary to be able to grow. But seeing how they have built up the junior program and the way the JV and Freshmen teams played this year I think they have some people to step up.
Brookwwood should be a good test next week. Probably want a little payback from last year. But I don’t see Lassiter letting off the gas like they have so much in the regular season. More than a few of the games they won by 14-20 could have easily been 25-30+ point wins. Still, Brookwood comes from a tough region so they will be ready to play,

Wildcat2 – defenses playing well. Fumbles can be caused be defenses. But not stupid decisions, like going for it from your own 29. Or a too much time penalty after a time out. Dumb stuff like that has predominated. Missing open receivers. Not an artistic success. Nobody should claim that. I agree, however, that a good team can make another good team look bad. They both look bad. But it is only one night.

slim, from what I hear is Brookwood D is a bit porous. Also Walton beat them and Lassiter owned Walton. So long as Lassiter D can get a few stops Lassiter should come out on top next Friday.
25 Roelle in the secondary is a junior and does a good job of assignment supporting the run and pass coverage. That is key for Lassiter defense. They are not big and fast but do play good assignment defense.

Didn’t realize Roelle was a junior. Yeah, definitely not the biggest guys on D like some teams or that 1 5 star guy that can open up things for other guys. But all of them do a good job of fundamentals (most of the time) and don’t get beat horribly on a pass play where the WR gets behind them. I think Murphy can be a lot like Clark was for Lassiter at CB and be a shut down guy that won’t necessarily have the INTs or tackles, but who people just do not want to throw towards.
Walton was bit hard by the injury bug this year. Though they have some juniors and sophs who got some very meaningful playing time and will be in the thick of it next year.

I guess the AJC poll will be the only one that won’t have to put Colquitt County BACK in the rankings next week.
Not that it’s the most important thing, but Camden had a pretty good shot at a national title were it to win state. Camden was ranked #2 in one national poll and top-5 in about five of them.

“the truth”, check back over the last 2 or 3 yrs. and you’ll see that Colquitt actually travels well in the playoffs and beats excellent teams. Some that they were not supposed to. They are rather “scary” when it comes playoff time. Would bet some teams will be “scrambling” to avoid playing them in the first game.

LOL. Camden looses. Colquitt is Camden’s Kyptonite. They left Seagraves who run a 10min 40 run for a 70 yard TD. How funny. I flipped my twenty sand clock 5 times during that run. And I can’t believe after the zebras gave Camden the ball back at the end of the game when Ramsey got clocked and stripped. No way was his hand going forward. Great game by both. That puts Camden and Colquitt on the right side of the bracket. They might meet again. Good luck to all starting next week. And for those who’s season is over Great year see u next football season

Dear Titletown, I hat Camden as much as anyone else, just like football. You wanna feed crow, fine, just add a bit of salt. But i am just sayin that yes they lost 1 game in region 1 but it just showed they could play with the big boys, they did beat your twin titletown teams. Congrats to Colquit for grinding out a great win and congrats to Camden for hanging with region and coming in new to take the region they were not suppose to take according to all past posts. I do want to say I was right about Camden, with all those blowouts early when it came to the 2 toughest games, their 46 pt avg over the first 8 games dwindled down to a mere 18 in the last 2 games. So yes they went undefeated, only lost 1 and packed up the no. 1 seed, and is 2-0 against tinsletown.

Allatoona got handled tonight. Well to me it looked like the toona fans were surrendering before kickoff with all those white flags they were waving. Now let’s see if those toona fans who were doing all that smack talking will be back and show some class towards the UNDEFEATED RAIDERS. Then the clean up of all that smoked toona off the field needs to be done before Clarke Central comes to the “Boneyard” in the first round of the playoffs. Congrats. Herron always wears shorts. Kinda weird, but he’s entitled
About the game, I think his plan was too conservative. I also felt that way during the Lowndes game. What I don’t understand is why play “conservative” and then try some crazy stuff, like that 4th down play deep in your own territory? Makes zero sense to me.

rmbuck..that is complete revisionist history…no one ever said Camden could not hang with R1 or that they would not be able to win this region. It was mostly said that they would not continue to dominate and go undefeated. Some people on here still think they dominated (their right), but the undefeated thing is not up for debate anymore, does it matter? not really.
Yes, they beat both of my teams, but both of these teams beat Colquitt…and the circle of life in Region 1 continues.

rmbuck no one from Region 1 at the beginning of the year thought Camden might not win Region 1 this year. We knew what type of team they had coming in. It is all of the northern folks who always said Camden got a free by in their old region, not us. We always seemed to end up playing them in the playoffs. Some times we won and some times Camden did. In tha past, more years than not, if Camden did lose in the playoffs then it was generally because of Region 1.
What we have said is the days of guaranteed Region titles is over. Camden will always compete for the championship in the region but they will not blow through Region 1 every year.
What you and Camden have now witnessed (and generally happens) is that the region 1 teams have improved substantially from the beginning of the year. It happens because we play each other and make each other better. Having added Camden to the mix only makes us that much improved.
The new Region 1 is ready to take on all comers.

@Titletown, I agree with you. Camden is in a better position for the playoffs by being in Region 1. At least we had some competition that tested the kids a bit. Its all good going forward. Interesting that Camden beats Lowndes and Valdosta then loses to Colquitt, yet Colquitt loses to Lowndes and Valdosta. LOL..it makes my head hurt. ON a sad note, I feel bad for Tift Co. and Brunswick. I still think that if Brunswick’s QB had an offensive line (even Camden’s 8th graders) they would be significantly better. Colquitt beat Camden.
North Gwinnett beat Colquitt.

I guess you have to put Norcross as #1 in the state. Lassiter is unproven outside of their own region
Unless you realize that Camden is still the best team in the state and simply ran into the Colquitt buzzsaw at the end of the season.
Rankings really do not matter at this point, only playoff seedings. Even a blind pig finds an aorn sometimes, and even South Gwinnett can kick a field goal. We will find out who is really the best in Georgia’s November madness. Let the games begin. Good luck everyone.

Propst really surprises me sometimes with his play selection at critical times. Now, everybody already knows he is a “Spurrier-type idiot”, but that’s beside the point. I would imagine even some of his best friends think he is an “idiot” sometimes. All the people in Moultrie that I know think he is, but he wins games when it counts. That’s the only reason they keep him. Anyway, when he went for a two point conversion at a crucial time against Valdosta, he ran a pass play that failed, after just having ran the ball all over the Cat’s defense enroute to a TD. They were dog-tired. The QB could have almost walked in from the 2 yd line, especially on a rollout play action call ! That was huge! Then, tonite on that 2 pt. conversion try after they went ahead 13-12 he does it again. Goes for a flare-out type pass attempt. Cole Seagraves had been running through the middle of Camden’s line all night. Even the RB had just scored from 3 yds. out with those 2 heavy duty blockers in there and made it look easy. That was almost extremely critical. Would have been only a tie game if their kicker had made that FG, and it was close. Things like this are just mind-boggling. These are supposed to be the experts!

Just got settled in after returning from Douglas and getting caught up on reading the blog. In my opinion Valdosta just played its best game since Coach Gillespie arrived here – not its biggest or most important game (a couple wins last year come to mind), but its best game on both sides of the ball. Coffee was never in the game and never had a prayer of pulling off any kind of comeback.
After getting mauled by Camden and losing a heartbreaker to Lowndes that we coulda/shoulda won, the Cats could have folded their tents. All they did was score 41, 38, 41, and 44 points in their next four region games, winning all four and getting better each week.
We are ready for the playoffs.
By the way, BK, how does that “upset” smell now?

Apparently that team 74 is always refering to can be beat. There is no longer any reason for him not to be able to say ” On Any Given Friday “. The vaunted defense did not do it’s job, did it ? Colquit outscored Camden and that is the result of their D being better than yours on this night. The unstopable run game needed some help, didn’t it ? So much for your thoughts on passing. Late in the game, did you need that passing game because you were behind, as I stated earlier ? Was it just a thing of not wanting to pass or was it an inability to do so ? 50+ yard attempt ? Could your All-State Qb not get you any closer ? I see you stated you were not happy. I wonder why ? You said that is what you get when you allow a team to stay close. Did it ever occur to you that they have a plan also ? You also mentioned that, the game plan. I thought that was the same all the time, to win. The plan was executed to best of their ability. The other TEAM and COACH’S had a plan too, and it seems it was a little better or they were more prepared. You are bitting back with ” Camden beat you, didn’t they ?” Take it.I was under the impression that you like Camdens offense. Yet you state you don’t like conservative offense. What do you think the wing T is ? You say you never have. How long have you been a Camden fan and how long have they been running the wing T ? This just goes to show that you can learn something everyday from anybody. Since you don’t know any better, I will tell you again because I like you. Camden is not the best team in Georgia.

Reeze……I’ve always complained about the Coach’s play calling, but more times than not, Camden wins. But when you put that much pressure on your defense, that many times, the end results are not normally good. Think about this, on your own 29 yard line, 4th and one, you go for it. You’re in Colquitt territory and all you need to do is make a first down to really put Colquitt under the gun, what happens, you punt. 80 yard drive in the first half and you never come back to that offensive package the rest of the game. Your receivers are getting open down field, but you never or rarely ever pass on first down. I hope they’ve learned their lesson. IMO,the game should not have been that close going into the final minutes. Colquitt played a great game, but IMO, Camden played exactly the way they played against Lowndes. The difference is, Lowndes didn’t capitalize on Camden’s play calling, Colquitt did. That’s life in HS Football…..

@Elementary My Dear Watson he didn’t catch that ball. It was a good call. Now what was a bad call was the phantom pass interference called on Camden that gave them their second touchdown. They tackle Camden’s receiver and ref throws flag but changes his mind but Camden looks at a receiver and they call pass interference. Doesn’t matter Camden didn’t execute tonight, missed EXPoints. They had their chance. Bad calls all around even when Ramsey fumbled the ball and not called but it would’ve been fun if that balled had sailed a little bit more to the right.

like i said above….lowndes and valdosta both beat colquitt….welcome to region one highness 74..keep your fingers crossed yall avoid colquitt in playoffs.

74…..your team didnt dog anything……yall had 200 total yds…..yes the score was 24-7 but thats not any indication of how close the game was. i will remind you again for the 1000th time…….1000yds rushing and 14 tds was on the sidelines in street clothes……and lowndes still was right there. lowndes best team did not play against camden and be glad it did not…..its ok though yall got beat tonight by a team that has your number…..and a team Lowndes held to 165 yards and one offensive td. Something yall failed to do. I am sorry man….i know the best etam in camden history lost …i know it sucks. camden is not the best team in the state……grayson is and lowndes is the only team on their side the bracket in my opinion that has any shot to beat them. Colquitt county may just go to dome if they keep playing the way they have the last 2 weeks.

The Camden/Colquitt game, more or less, is who would make the biggest mistake that beat themselves. It was not an artistic success, no matter how hard fought. Doesn’t mean to say that both teams aren’t good. Doesn’t mean that both offenses won’t work up big scores next Friday either. But little went right for either team until the 4th quarter. Remember that Grayson was severely criticized last year for their 14-7 victory over Brookwood, and both teams that day played BETTER, I’d say, than either Camden or Colquitt did last night. Just one of those nights. Bungle ball.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE EAST PAULDING RAIDERS!!!
UNDEFEATED SEASON!!! REGION 5 AAAAA CHAMPIONS!!!
ALLATOONA, who had jumped from AAA last year to AAAAA this year, came into “THE BONEYARD” at 9 / 0 last night. This was a game we had all been waiting on pretty much from the 1st game this season. The ALLATOONA fans FILLED the visitor’s side and spilled over with folks standing on the fences. GOOD JOB “TOONA” fans that’s how you show the kid’s you appreciate their hard work…
Facing “TOONA” was the UNDEFEATED EAST PAULDING RAIDERS also at 9 / 0…this game was for all the marbles! The 2012 REGION 5 AAAAA CHAMPIONSHIP! & the #1 SEED in the playoffs!
With FOX 5 “HIGH FIVE” & Bill Hartman in the house along with COMCAST XFINITY doing a tape delay that will be available “on demand” the excitement level was over the top!!! EAST won the toss and deferred to the 2nd half…the ball was set, the CANNON fired it’s first shot of the night and BOOOOOM!!!! it was ON!!!!
EAST scored first to go up 7 / 0 then added a 2nd TD but “Mr. Automatic” actually missed the extra point! Everyone was going “HUH”!!! That just doesn’t happen! Score was 13 / 0 and with the “D” stepping up ALL NIGHT, ALLATOONA couldn’t score…”TOONA” made several long clock eating drives but couldn’t finish until the 3:35 mark of the 4th quarter when they threw a pass into the corner of the endzone for their only score of the night!
EAST had a TD called back due to a block in the back (it was a good call) and a missed FG or the score could have been 35+ but at the end of the night as the CANNON fired to signal the victory, the COACH got doused with the water cooler and EAST had it’s 2nd REGION CHAMPIONSHIP in school history.
EAST PAULDING RAIDERS 25 / ALLATOONA 7!!!
EAST gets CLARKE CENTRAL next week in “THE BONEYARD” and ALLATOONA has HERITAGE / CONYERS coming to them….REGROUP “TOONA” and take care of business next week!!!
TICK…TICK…TICK…BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!
GO RAIDERS!!!

Bk is clowning again with the hurt players crap. Colquitt was nowhere near 100% against Lowndes but he don’t wanna say that. Regardless of yards Colquitt was in position to beat Lowndes even after they stole our plays all night. If you wanna talk about yards, Camden held Lowndes to 125 yards with 80 on one possession, talk about domination. I’d love to get another shot at Lowndes, they won’t be up as much his time. The first game against Colquitt was Lowndes Super Bowl bc they wanted revenge for whoopin last year. Y’all are gon be upset when Colquitt is better next year too

To all the Camden fans I would like to apologise for the way Propst acted after we scored the first touchdown. Running out to the hash marks and pumping his fist and pointing you and your team. Clearly you can tell he is not from Moultrie. he embarrassed me and all the fans that grew up in Moultrie watching and respecting all of region 1. However I love the excitement but turn to our kids and to the fans on our side that never stands up or gets excited. Also it was nice to see your coach on the field arguing with the refs. He always looks like a class act because he never has to argue with the refs, your usually winning by 40 so he doesn,t bother to argue. Camden fans last night were a class acted ya’ll will represent region 1 6A very well. Good Game!

He was brought here to win games and that’s what he’s doing. Before last night, when was Camden’s last region loss? When was the last time they even lost before the losses we’ve given them. Camden is an absolute monster and Rush desires for our program to be theirs. He respects the crap out of them. Settle in for more of the same as the playoffs get underway. This was just the start. Once again, for the second week in a row, 10 top tens lost. This goes to show that there is equality or parity among high school teams in the state of Georgia. As I have stated, they are a number of teams capable of winning this year. I told you all that 6A was wide open. Do not be surprised if your team loses. I won’t. I know we can lose on any given night. All the talk can stop now as everyone starts anew. 0-0, that is the record of all involved. Time for everyone to concentrate on their up-coming game with the utmost urgency. The brackets will no doubt be a source of contention but all is fair. Lovejoy now prepares for the second season and are ready for the push towards December. Congratulations to all those who have earned the right to play on.

I have mentioned several times in the past about inept officiating that teams ( especially the Cats) encounter when playing Coffee at Douglas. In last night’s game, the refs were all but invisible; the had no effect on the game. They did a good job.
The Coffee fans were hospitable and the stadium is easily accessible, has ample parking, and is a good place to watch a game. My only complaint is that the concession stands had no coffee or hot chocolate.
. Can you believe it? Coffee had no coffee!

It is funny to me to read some of these comments! Grayson was roundly condemned for our wins last year over Kell and Brookwood and our loss this year to Parkview. Yet when Camden loses to Colquitt, some write that they were playing not to lose, show only enough to get by, the game didn’t mean anything, etc. I would be willing to bet that the game meant a *lot* to Coach Herron and the team members! The game may not have meant anything in the state but their quest for a national title just bit the dust to say nothing of the most important ranking, in the minds and hearts of the team! I didn’t see the game and can’t comment beyond the score and what has been written so I won’t even pretend to dissect the game or particular calls. It really just emphasizes what we all know but sometimes forget – there are no guaranteed wins!

@WILDHAWG2012 – Attendance is always an issue as there are so many things competing for attention/dollars around here. We just don’t the multi-generational support that many of the south GA teams have. Heck, most of our schools haven’t been open long enough to have multiple generations!
The other issue is Grayson, South and Brookwood boundaries all touch with Parkview just on the other side of Brookwood. All 4 schools are withing 10 miles of each other. When you get two games that have the regional impact that those two did, there is competition for attendance. The closest I can come up with is maybe when Valdosta and Lowndes both have home games or maybe the Warner Robin/Houston Co teams are all at home the same time.

Fred – Not to horn in your conversation, but when both Lowndes and Valdosta play at home, our home stands will be near sell-outs, depending on the competition of course. For instance, when we played Brooks County, both Bazemore-Hyder and Martin stadiums were near capacity. That’s with maybe 110,000 population in the area. Even though there may be four 6A schools in close proximity in Gwinnette County, you guys have population of about a zillion. I think your point about multi-generational support is a valid one, however.

@57Cat – Horn right in brother! I am frustrated with the attendance up here big time. Grayson puts a very good team on the field and it makes me crazy not to see the stands full. I know we are generally a late arriving crowd and we do normally have a full stadium by half time but full and packed are two different things. The point I was trying to make was not the Cats or Vikes playing at home but when they are both home at the same time. Now having said that, I don’t know how much the two fan bases will go to the other’s games. I know my wife and I went to several other R8 games on nights when Grayson wasn’t playing.

Fred – I almost went to the Lowndes-Camden game (that prolly doesn’t count, huh?), I even had tickets, but when push came came to shove, I had to go with my Cats to Brunswick. But you are right. We seldom have other games of interest nearby that would draw from our attendance. I’m sure I speak for my Viking friends when I say that if our team is playing, loyalty will just about always win.
We have a local private school, the Valwood Valiants, who are undefeated and in a couple of weeks will probably by playing for the GISA Class AA State Championship here in Valdosta. I have lots of friends with kids in that school. However, if my Cats are successful, on that same night we likely will be travelling to Lassiter for round three of the 6A playoffs. Guess where I’ll be.

Looking at the brackets. And looking ahead. Historically most Cobb County teams disappear early, though Walton did make it to the finals, and it was an all Cobb County semi-final before that. But suppose, just suppose the visiting teams from 1-AAAAAA defeat the home teams in round 1. Colquitt over McEachern, Valdosta over North Cobb. If so, it appears to me, anyway, that both Valdosta and Colquitt would have VERY easy 2nd round games regardless of who they play. Suppose Lowndes defeats Lovejoy in the 2nd round. Camden should be HUGE favorites over both their first two round games. Then, there would be four 1-AAAAAA teams left out of 8.
If so, the rest of Georgia High School football might NEVER hear the end of it! But it looks more possible to me, now that the brackets are set, than ever before.

Congratulations to Colquitt. Our Wildcats made way to many mistakes. I very seldom ever complain about anything but the refs were absolutely terrible. I have never seen refs as bad as they were this past Friday night in Moultrie. The refs actually threw a flag on Propst and picked it up. Regardless of the refs, Colquitt won the game. Maybe this loss will play in the favor of the Wildcats. We will keep our heads up and hope that we get a chance to play Colquitt again in the semi-finals. Best of luck to all teams.

If you go back through the post on most of the comment sections, nearly all of the Colquitt Fans thought Camden would win the game. Some thought Colquitt would get blown out, they were just hoping the game would be competitive. Now, all of a sudden, everyone knew Colquitt would win, they’re the best team in the state and just like last season, they’re chanting, “who’s Camden County”! I am a bit confused by one thing. In the AAA 1st round, North Hall hosts 6-AAA #4 Cedar Grove. Cedar Grove finished the regular season tied with Woodward Academy with a 4-2 region record and Cedar Grove held the tie breaker over Woodward due to head to head competition. Why is it Woodward took 3rd and not Cedar Grove???
