Josh Dobbs accounted for three touchdowns, leading Alpharetta to a big 35-32 win at Johns Creek.
Alpharetta rolls into the playoffs on a six-game winning streak and will have home-field in the first round, likely as the No. 2 seed out of Region 6-AAAAAA.
Johns Creek will be the third seed out of the region.
First-round playoff matchups will be released Monday.
Dobbs ran for two touchdowns and threw for another, but the senior quarterback’s biggest play of the game came on a third down from the Raiders’ 8-yard line.
With Alpharetta clinging to a 28-24 lead in the fourth quarter, Dobbs threw a strike to a crossing Daniel Clements, who raced 70 yards. Three plays later, Julian Macon burst in from three yards out for a touchdown that put the Raiders up 11 with nine minutes to play.
Johns Creek cut lead to three on Chase Solomon’s second touchdown run and Skye Overton’s two-point conversion with five minutes to play.
But Alpharetta was able to run out the clock on its ensuing drive. Dobbs again found Clements for a big gain on the sealing drive.
Dobbs completed 16-of-29 passes for 349 yards and one touchdown. Clements finished with four catches for 124 yards.
Alpharetta (7-3, 6-1 Region 6-AAAAAA) led for the majority of the game, but couldn’t put the scrappy Gladiators away. The Raiders led 21-17 at halftime.
Johns Creek (8-2, 5-2) took its first lead on a Solomon 5-yard touchdown run early in the third quarter. Solomon also had a 51-yard run on the Gladiators’ opening drive of the second half. The junior back finished with 121 yards rushing.
Alpharetta (7-3, 6-1 Region 6-AAAAAA) answered with long scoring drive that was aided by pass interference call on 3rd-and-goal in the end zone. The Raider capitalized on the next play with Dobbs hooking up with Rodney Morris on a 2-yard touchdown pass that put Alpharetta up 28-24 late in the third quarter.
Overton finished with 195 yards rushing, highlighted by a 75-yard touchdown run in the first half.
