AAAA roundup

By Score Atlanta

Grady 33, Columbia 14: Grady wrapped up a playoff spot out of Region 6-AAAA by rolling over Columbia. A 26-0 halftime lead allowed host Grady to cruise through the second half. Kivon Taylor threw three touchdown passes to Dashawn Benton to lead Grady.

Marist 42, Carver-Atlanta 14: Visiting Marist used the legs and arm of quarterback Myles Willis to defeat Carver-Atlanta. Willis completed five of six passes for 59 yards including a touchdown throw to Greg Taboada. On the ground, Willis gained 162 yards on 16 carries and scored twice. Griffin King scored two rushing touchdowns and Steven Wallace had the other Marist score.

Riverdale 20, Locust Grove 10: Visiting Riverdale got touchdown runs from running backs Fred Ward and Ti’Keem Cooper and from quarterback Asania Aderhold. Isa Muhammad added an interception on defense to set up a Riverdale touchdown.

Sandy Creek 65, Columbus 0: Sandy Creek clinched the Region 5-AAAA title with its first shutout of the season. Led by quarterback Cole Garvin, wideout Demarre Kitt and halfback Eric Swinney, the victorious hosts raced to a 44-0 halftime lead before pulling their starters. A running clock throughout the second half ended it quickly for Sandy Creek, which has now held six opponents to fewer than 10 points.

Congrats to Marist on winning the region championship. Total domination tonight. Offense executed very well, and defense played hard again. I thought Willis had 3 rushing tds and Taboada caught a two-point conversion.

Carver-Atl Panther you have been on these blogs begging for Carver-Atl to be ranked .They put yall in the rankings and yall got beat bad. I was at the game Marist dominated in all phases. The score would’ve been worse if Marist left their starters in.

Carver -Atl team is undisciplined and the coach is arrogant. It came back to bite you last night. Yall players looking across the 50 yardline shouting at Marist players what happened yall got beat down.

@ chris

I am not sure that I would say Carver is undisciplined. But they are typical of most city teams, very athletic and talented, but they tend to play sloppy at times. They got away with doing it all year, but against a team like Marist, thats not gonna cut it. I still think they can win a game in the playoffs though depending on the matchup.

@ Chris you are a Washington fan sounding like a hater on this blog. You were no where to be found after we beat you all.

That being said, you are right we were dismantled and need to regroup. Luckily for us we earned the fact that this was not a win or go home scenario.

How about supporting your fellow APS teams and not tear them down. Unlike you I will be rooting for you all tonight because that is what true city fans should do.

All in all the Sub-Region B 6-AAAA Champs will regroup and be prepared for our playoff run.

Let’s go Panthers!!!!

@ Carver Panther 1 and Dekalb Co Guy I am not hating on Carver. I watch them before every game running and jumping shouting at the other team and the Coaches at carver let them get away with it. They pick up bad personal foul calls because they always talking to the other teams players and that kind of will cost you at some point thats why I say they undisciplined. last night to be point and shouting across the 50 yardline at Marist during warmups is not called for….. you can be hyped up but do it between your team . And I support the APS teams just dont like the way Coach Myles let those players act.

@ Chris I am not sure what you personally have against Coach Myles (I say personally because in each of your post you say something negative about him as if you know him) but going 9-0 requires some good coaching for any team.

Kids motivating themselves is not an issue. We play clean and that can’t be said about other teams. Could we be more disciplined? Probably but we could also be 1-9 vs. 9-1.

Try positvely supporting your city brethren instead of spewing negativity.

Have you ever heard of the Willie Lynch letter? If not, you should google it.

Go Panthers!!!!

@ Carver – Panther I dont have anything against Coach Myles just dont like his coaching style . He coach like he playing a video game imo. And willie Lynch know all about that . Since when can people not have an opinion you are a Carver fan I’m not. Just like I like the Falcons hate the Saints thats how it is. Its not the kids at Carver fought that they need more discipline it falls on the Coaches!!!!!!!! So don’t tell me who and how to support you got your thoughts and I got mine.

Where is the Burke County fan who rants and raves about his team? The one who uses a combination of English and gibberish? Did the internet get cut off at the trailer? It’s just not the same 4A review without it!

It’s go time for the playoffs. Marist and Carrollton in the 2nd round?

Move over Marist, here comes the Gilmer Bobcats. I cant believe they didnt post the highlights down cause it was that awesome. It felt like a real playoff game. But its all about the Metro Atlanta schools it seems.

Gilmer beating Northwest Whitfield 50-47 in 3 OT’s. And NWW was in Class 4A last year playing against the Cherokee/Forsyth County schools area.

@Mike – Move over Marist? I’m a Chamblee Dad, but y’all ain’t gunna score 50 points on Marist if you play 30 OT’s…

The Gilmer score was actually 40-37. The Bobcats play high intensity ball. Just ask Chubb from Catersville. When you play us… you remember us in aches and pains. Want to throw across the middle? Make sure you say hello to Mr. Henderson ’cause he will say hello to you. Want to run the pig skin? Say hello to Mr. Dover. The only two losses came in OT or with 3 seconds left. Both games could easily have been won and were dominated by Gilmer statistically. This team isn’t dominated by 1 player, but but pushed forward by a team of athletes. Gilmer wins inch by inch. Oh yeah, and did I mention ball control and death by Bertolini?

@Mike — looking forward to it. Marist was in 4A too last year, playing against teams like a Tucker and SWD. I know Gilmer is good, or else you wouldn’t be in the playoffs. Sounds like an exciting game for the 4th seed; our region championship game was not as close.

@Purpnation — wow, you guys sound awesome! Our team is slow, small, and weak, but we’ll try our best to keep up with Gilmer. “Ball control”? — maybe Marist should look into strategy. See you at Marist.

Chris

Reg 6 sweeps Reg 7 imo. Washington isn’t a typical #4 seed . Carver will pound Dalton and Grady will do the same to River Ridge. Marist will beat Gilmer

Hey

Not sure region 6 is very strong, other than Marist. No. 2 seed Carver was mighty unimpressive on Friday and has zero kicking game — can’t win playoff games if you can’t kick extra points or field goals. If that’s the 2d best team in the region, then the region ain’t so good.

Chris

November 11th, 2012
12:23 pm

@ Hey good point on the kicking game of Carver but those kids been riding high all season had a lost not unexpected against Marist but #29 from Carver will be a hand full to tackle again on Fri we will see Grady will beat River ridge . Ridgeland has Vonn Bell but that won’t be enough mark my words………

Chris-sounds like you are picking Washington to beat Ridgeland.Sounds like a long shot to me. Line later this week will probably be 14 or more points. Its a long trip to Ridgeland-been there before as a Carrollton fan{it was twice as far back after the loss}.As for Dalton they seem to up and down this season but are capable of winning on a given night-the invisible player(tradition)usually shows up plus the experience of playoff games.

Every team aint Marist and sometimes a team has a bad day but Carver has talent yall need to research instead of going by past history. Example Washington played Pebblebrook years back he was the hot RB 2000 yds that year , they were #1 seed Washington was #4 and they got beat bad on their field so do your homework and just dont look at the score. I have seen Carver play and they will be a handful win or lose for any team.
