Playoff scenarios for final week of regular season
Here’s a look at the playoff scenarios for each region in Class AAAAA. This is not meant to include every possibility, because tiebreaker procedures vary from region to region and are not widely publicized. Instead, it is focused on the most likely or least complicated scenarios.
*Region 1: The winner of the Thomas County Central-Harris County game will be the region champion and the loser will be the No. 2 seed. The winner of the Lee County-Bainbridge game will be the No. 3 seed and the loser will be the No. 4 seed. Northside of Columbus and Hardaway have been eliminated from playoff contention.
*Region 2: Northside of Warner Robins has clinched the region title. Warner Robins and Lakeside of Evans have clinched playoff berths and play each other this week. Warner Robins can clinch the No. 2 seed with a victory. Jones County can secure a playoff berth with a victory against Grovetown on Friday. Grovetown still has a shot, but it needs to beat Jones County and hope for a Lakeside upset of Warner Robins.
*Region 3: Ware County, Effingham County and Richmond Hill have clinched playoff berths, and the other spot will go to the winner of the Glynn Academy-Jenkins game. The winner of the Ware County-Effingham County game will win the region title.
*Region 4: The winners of the four region play-in games will advance to the state playoffs. Those games are Ola at Whitewater, Drew at Creekside, McIntosh at Union Grove and Northgate at Mundy’s Mill. Whitewater will be the region champion if it beats Ola.
*Region 5: The winner of the East Paulding-Allatoona game will be the region champion and the loser will be the No. 2 seed. Rome has clinched third place, and North Paulding will finish in fourth place.
*Region 6: M.L. King has clinched the region title. Stephenson can clinch second place with a victory against North Atlanta, and Tucker can take the No. 3 seed with a victory against Mays. Southwest DeKalb, Miller Grove and Mays are tied for fourth place, but Southwest DeKalb will get the playoff berth barring an upset.
*Region 7: The winners of the four region play-in games will advance to the state playoffs. Those games are Creekview at Riverwood, Sequoyah at Sprayberry, Northview at Pope and Forsyth Central at Kell. Kell will be the region champion if it beats Forsyth Central.
*Region 8: The winner of the Flowery Branch-Gainesville game will be the region champion and the loser will be the No. 2 seed. Heritage of Conyers has clinched third place, and Clarke Central has clinched fourth place.

This is really lazy. A scenario for sure but in region 6 there are several scenarios. If you do not report the details of the various scenarios, it be irresponsible to offer any scenario. come on, get with it!!

I Dont See How Southwest Dekalb will get the playoff berth, If it comes down to a tie breaker it should go by points. Mays is basically undefeated, they only lose by a point of a touchdown. Southwest Dekalb get BLOWED OUT. It would be a waste of a playoff slot. Mays is going to pitch a BIG upset this friday! So Let The Games Begin!

The Mays team is concerned only about fridat. Believe that . Perhaps my slightly overstated fellow(We Ready!) Swat partna means, only Mays beats Mays. We hope to pull out the victory on Friday. What really matters is who plays in the second round. ‘Cause if you advance and get beat in the first round you might as well sit.
Mays will be there Tucker and maybe SWD will sit home. next week.

swatguy…I understand where you’re coming from. according to you guy’s Mays is always beating yourselves and it’s never the other team beating you. Well this has been the case for a lot of years now. When are you guy’s going to step up and beat someone when you really need it????? Until they change the region again..Mays will continue to be the 5th or 6th best team against the Dekalb schools. You guy’s have only beat SWD once in 13 games. Maybe Mays is the number 1 team in the city of ATL.

I know everyone has their opinion on how this will play out but we have to look at what is in front of us concerning the final game. YES! SWD beat Mays & Miller Grove BUT Mays still has to play Tucker and it can go either way. If Mays wins they force a 3 way tie this is fact look at Tucker, SWD and Mays records they all will be 6-3. The region and GHSA has tiebreaker guildlines to be followed. SWD is not a sure in because of their victory over Mays because Tucker beat SWD and let’s say for this arguement that Mays wins Friday over Tucker they would beat Tucker head to head thus forcing a 3 way tie for 2 spots. The info that I hear is the region voted on a point system if true Mays wins because they have not loss a game by more than 6 points 7 SWD has been shut out this year. I hear the Max points is between 13-15 not for sure. The fact is Mays has to win and and then the tie breaker comes into play. The other deal is MG beats MLK and force a 4 team tie that would be interesting but all above teams mentioned are fighting for their playoff life with only 2 spots availible. SWD can’t automatically go nor Tucker. Tucker could well be the 4th seed it’s crazy but is a possibilty.

I said this on another blog … CONGRATES to the Lions of MLK for their victory over Tucker and being crown 2012 REGION 6 CHAMPION … well deserved and well earned.
@The Mays Fans – The only way Mays makes the 2012 playoffs, is to beat Tucker on Nov 9th (Period). It doesn’t matter what SWD does … a Mays “L” and a SWD “W” or “L”, SWD gets the playoff spot.

If Tucker lose and it comes down to a tie-breaker with teams at 6-3 in the region, I believe the point system is “points against” from like opponents that are not tied.

@Jab. Why so much hate for Tucker. The past is the past. Everybody needs to be focused on their next opponent. Seeding for 3 of our spots won’t be determined until Friday. And where you are seeded could make a difference in how far Stephensen goes.

Why so much hate for Tucker? I wonder if Tucker didn’t start it by challenging Stephenson and MLK when the moved down to 5A. Remenber, Tucker/Marist ruled their region while in 4A and 5A for a number of years. I am an outsider looking for answer to” rwdekalb” question. Is their anyone out their who has the answer?

@ rwdekalb, there is really no hate, just trash talk’ we (ALL) are Dekalb county but it is true that Tucker & Marist rule the region before this year and at the beginning of the year they did a lot of talk about how they were still going to rule the region and MLK & Stephenson presence was not going to make a difference. @ I believe that a point system is put in place in case the their is a tie. With all remainding the same eg. If Tucker wins and remain 2 loss they are third behind Stephenson because Stephenson beat the heads up. If their is a three way tie, I believe the point system is not how many points that was scored overall but who lost the lowest amt. of point by the three contenders.. In case of a 4 way tie i believe that the region would have a 1 qtr. playoff but don’t quote me on that…

@ you right Gamer if you research the blogs you will see that Tucker fans blasted Stephenson & MLK with WE ARE TUCKER TIGERS STATE CHAMPS WINNER OF 19 STARIGHT ETC. ETC. AND HOW THEY WERE GOING TO RULE THE REGION. BUT I THINK AT THE END OF THE SEASON WE ALL ARE GOING TO COME TOGETHER AND SUPPORT EACH OTHER, THEN IT WILL BE DEKALB VS (ALL) AAAAA TEAMS TO THE DOME…;)

Tucker-NSWR in round three. Sounds good but a bad night for any of the two and it’s over until next year. Two years ago NSWR lost to Whitewater in round one, a team that was under the radar. It seems within no time they were up 28-0. NSWR fought back to 28-21 but needed a 5th Qtr. to win. It was over just like that! Expect some similiar upset(s) this year ——it will happen no matter how good you are.

Mays has been on the lost side in big games many times, However I have seen Mays win against Marist and Tucker. The talent levels are not much different, coaching is a major difference. We have seen this season, these teams are very very close to each other. Mays dont cry we show up. We know we are one play away in the 4 loses to be undefeated. Fact is we do have four loses (3 region) but it only provides incentive for a win against Tucker. It is our first playoff game.

@swatguy. Mays has been the most consistent APS school over past 10 yrs and they are very competive this year with every game close except their blowout win against Miller Grove. Good luck to Mays on Friday and may the better team that day win.

Guess the rest of us in AAAAA should just pack it in. I’m so tired of hearing how great Reg6 is. Dang!! The same mouthiness ran rampant last year about the region and they went 1-3 in the first round.

@JAB – After checking back on previous blogs, there was no more trash talking by Tucker fans as there was trash talking by Stephenson fans…mainly YOU. (LOL) It’s been ALL in good fun and appears to be many more years of this chest beating. We in region 6 have a number of strong and talented teams which leads to many blog post and pride for our teams. As long as the region stands as it does and I don’t see any reason to change a thing, REGION 6 will be something special on Friday Nights. Lastly, we all will soon be onboard, as Region 6 prepares for the run toward the 2012 5A CROWN.
@G-dud – It’s not a huge surprise that Tucker is not coming out this year as the #1 team in this brutal region. There is a strong possibility that there will be a different #1 team each year, as well as different playoff teams represented. We have at least 6 very capable playoff teams which is why we Region 6 fans can crow. (LOL) The surprise is our #1, MLK, about to go 10-0 … but with MUCH respect and well earned. I was one that predicted our #1 team would have at least one lost. If a team runs the table in this region … well let’s just say, “Watch them in the playoffs”.
@blu eagle – Sorry my man, 5A is going to have to deal with 4 TOP PROGRAMS … region 6 is about to share with the rest of 5A what we region fans have been seeing EVERY Friday Night.
@Gamer – If things hold true as you mention, it’s going to seem strange seeing Tucker/NSWR in the qrt round … we are use to matching up in the semi’s and the winner always take the CROWN.
@RealistFan –My man, formerly known as RealistEPFan, Yes, in 2011 region 6 when 1-3 against region 5, but with the addition of two big time players to the region and both sitting at the #1 & #2 spot … there is a LOT OF JUICE coming out of region 6 in 2012 … don’t see a repeat this year. Remember the one team that did win in last year region 6/5 matchup will not be the TOP dog in race, what’s that telling you about region 6 strength of schedule? (LOL) Good luck to your EP an NP teams, hope to see you down the road.

No “Trash Talkin” here until we all get there BUT…I call to your attention the FACT that…
MAYS came to “THE BONEYARD” in a 2nd Round Playoff Game in 07…LOST 21 / 3!!!
SWD came to “THE BONEYARD” in a 1st Round Playoff Game last year…LOST 10 / 6!!
Tiger4Life and several other TUCKER poster and myself bantered back and forth about a possible EAST / TUCKER match-up in the dome last year BUT, EAST lost a hard fought game against a WARNER ROBINS team that lost the following week to LOVEJOY who went on to play TUCKER in the dome. We went to that game and TUCKER manhandled LOVEJOY all night!!! We can go IF, MAYBE, COULDA / WOULDA / SHOULDA all day but last year a EAST / TUCKER match-up would have been a great game to watch!!!

Well we all have our favorites this year. I am going with region 6 5-A, but cheering for Stephenson. I hope this yar will be much different than previous years. There has been many great point of views from all posters on this blog. With spririted debates on who is this and who is that, at the end of the day it’s all about who puts the trophy in the air saying they are the number 1 team in the state for that year. For the re-alignment this year no one can claim that as of yet. There will be a first time team that gets to make history with this years state champion. I am excited to know that it will be a dog fight from week to week. With the tough schedule MLK, Stephenson, Tucker, SWD, MG, Mays, & North Atlanta, it felt like a playoff game every week in the region. this should help those teams that make it inthe playoffs if it comes down to a few minutes left in a game or scoring on the last drive or stopping an oppenant from scoring. The strength schedule in region6 was unbelievable. Lets hope that we didn’t beat up each other to much to where we are limping into the playoffs.
