Class A: New Power Rankings heading in to the final week of the regular season

By S. Thomas Coleman
For the AJC

It’s Week 12, the final week of the regular season, and in some instances in Class A, it’s “Judgment Week.”

As such, we’ll change things up a bit here at Class A Football Blog headquarters. The latest Power Rankings are out and so we will look at those, instead of posting our Top 5 Lists. At this point, the Power Rankings are much more important. We’ll classify teams as “Locked In,” “Safe,” and “On the Bubble.”

But first, here are the region play-in games for Regions 3 and 6. The coaches in each decided to take different routes to deciding their league champions.

In Region 3, they will use the No. 1 vs. No. 1 and Nos. 2 vs. Nos. 3 format, where the sub region winners face off for the league crown. In Region 4, they will use the Nos. 1 vs. Nos. 4 and Nos. 2 vs. Nos. 3 format. If both No. 1 seeds win, the best Power Ranking will determine the region champion.

Here are the matchups (a few of which we’ll preview later this week):

Region 3

No. 1A Savannah Christian at No. 1B Emanuel County Institute

No. 3A Jenkins County at No. 2B Johnson County

No. 3B Treutlen at No. 2A Calvary Day

No. 5B Montgomery County at No. 4A Claxton

No. 5A Savannah Country Day at No. 4B Wheeler County

No. 6B Portal at Glascock County

Region 6

No. 1B Walker at No. 4A Gordon Lee

No. 4B Mt. Paran Christian at No. 1A Mt. Zion-Carroll

No. 3B Mt. Pisgah at No. 2A Darlington

No. 2B Whitefield Academy at No. 3A Trion

No. 5B King’s Ridge at No. 5A Christian Heritage

No. 6B Fellowship Christian at No. 6A Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy

Now for the Power Rankings.

PUBLIC

Locked In:
1. Lincoln County
(8-1, 6-0 in Region 7), Power Ranking: 14.74. Next: Friday vs. Hancock Central (5-4, 3-3).

2. Wilcox County (7-2, 4-1 in Region 2), 14.30. Next: Friday vs. Telfair County (6-4, 3-2).

3. Emanuel County Institute (8-1, 4-0 in Region 3-Division B), 13.58. Next: Friday vs. Savannah Christian (7-2, 5-0).

4. Dooly County (7-2, 5-1 in Region 4), 13.53. Next: Friday vs. Schley County (2-7, 2-4).

Safe:
5. Marion County
(7-2, 5-1 in Region 4), 13.26. Next: Friday at Central-Talbotton (0-9, 0-6).

6. Irwin County (6-3, 4-1 in Region 2), 13.14. Next: Friday at Charlton County (5-4, 3-2).

7. Wilkinson County (6-3, 5-1 in Region 7), 13.01. Next: Friday vs. Warren County (1-8, 1-6).

8. Charlton County (5-4, 3-2 in Region 2), 12.89. Next: Friday vs. Irwin County (6-3, 4-1).

9. Miller County (8-2, 5-1 in Region 1), 12.46. Next: Regular season over.

10. Seminole County (7-2, 5-0 in Region 1), 12.14. Next: Friday at Mitchell County (5-4, 4-1).

11. Commerce (5-4, 1-4 in Region 7), 12.10. Next: Friday vs. Pinecrest Academy (4-4, 3-3).

12. Trion (7-2, 3-2 in Region 6-Division A), 11.99. Next: Friday vs. Whitefield Academy (6-3, 5-1).

On the Bubble:
13. Johnson County
(7-2, 3-1 in Region 3-Division B), 11.42. Next: Friday vs. Jenkins County (5-4, 3-2).

14. Clinch County (3-6, 1-4 in Region 2), 11.39. Next: Friday at Turner County (5-4, 2-3).

15. Mt. Zion-Carroll (6-3, 4-1 in Region 6-Division A), 11.33. Next: Friday vs. Mt. Paran Christian (2-7, 2-3).

16. Greenville (5-4, 3-3 in Region 4), 11.32. Next: Friday vs. Brookstone (7-2, 5-1).

17. Gordon Lee (5-4, 2-3 in Region 6-Division A), 11.30. Next: Friday vs. Walker (9-0, 6-0).

18. Hancock Central (5-4, 3-3 in Region 7), 11.19. Next: Friday at Lincoln County (8-1, 6-0).

18. Turner County (5-4, 2-3 in Region 2), 11.19. Next: Friday vs. Clinch County (3-6, 1-4).

20. Claxton (5-4, 2-3 in Region 3-Division A), 11.00. Next: Friday vs. Montgomery County (0-9, 0-5).

20. Telfair County (6-4, 3-2 in Region 2), 11.00. Next: Friday at Wilcox County (7-2, 4-1).

Observations: Seminole County, which looked dead in the water just a couple of weeks ago, has an outside chance at creeping into the top eight and hosting a first-round playoff game … Commerce, which also looked like it was on life support earlier, is solidly in the post season again. The Tigers have advanced to the playoffs every year since 1992 … The winner of the Clinch-Turner game will most likely make the playoffs … Mt. Zion, which won its sub region title, still needs a win over Mt. Paran to lock up a playoff spot.

PRIVATE

Locked In:
1. Athens Academy
(9-0, 6-0 in Region 8), 14.69. Next: Friday vs. Athens Christian (4-5, 3-2).

2. Eagle’s Landing Christian (8-1, 5-0 in Region 5), 13.98. Next: Friday vs. Landmark Christian (7-2, 5-0).

3. Prince Avenue (8-1, 4-1 in Region 8), 13.85. Next: Friday at George Walton Academy (6-3, 3-2).

4. Savannah Christian (7-2, 5-0 in Region 3-Division A), 13.57. Next: Friday at Emanuel County Institute (8-1, 4-0).

5. Walker (9-0, 6-0 in Region 6-Division B), 13.46. Next: Friday at Gordon Lee (5-4, 2-3).

6. Calvary Day (8-1, 4-1 in Region 3-Division A), 13.25. Next: Friday vs. Treutlen (6-4, 2-2).

7. Darlington (6-3, 4-1 in Region 6-Division A), 13.04. Next: Friday vs. Mt. Pisgah Christian (6-3, 3-2).

Safe:
8. Aquinas
(7-2, 4-2 in Region 7), 12.76. Next: Friday at First Presbyterian (6-3, 4-2).

9. Holy Innocents (6-4, 4-3 in Region 5), 12.46. Next: Regular season over.

10. Landmark Christian (7-2, 5-0 in Region 5), 12.19. Next: Friday at Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy (8-1, 5-0).

11. Brookstone (7-2, 5-1 in Region 4), 12.12. Next: Friday at Greenville (5-4, 3-3).

12. First Presbyterian (6-3, 4-2 in Region 7), 11.73. Next: Friday vs. Aquinas (7-2, 4-2).

13. George Walton Academy (6-3, 3-2 in Region 8), 11.64. Next: Friday vs. Prince Avenue Christian (8-1, 4-1).

14. Athens Christian (4-5, 3-2 in Region 8), 11.53. Next: Friday at Athens Academy (9-0, 5-0).

On the Bubble:
15. Mt. Pisgah Christian
(6-3, 3-2 in Region 6-Division B), 10.59. Next: Friday at Darlington (6-3, 4-1).

16. Whitefield Academy (6-3, 5-1 in Region 6-Division B), 10.46. Next: Friday at Trion (7-2, 3-2).

17. Our Lady of Mercy (5-4, 2-3 in Region 5), 10.42. Next: Friday vs. Strong Rock Christian (4-5, 1-4).

18. Christian Heritage (5-4, 2-3 in Region 6-Division A), 10.13. Next: Friday vs. King’s Ridge (4-5, 2-4).

Observations: Athens Christian is in danger of finishing with a losing record (4-6) but should still make the playoffs … Region 6, considered by most to be the weakest in Class A could have as many teams make the playoffs (4) as Region 8 and more than Regions 5, both of which are considered to be much stronger … Our Lady of Mercy, which defeated Mt. Pisgah handily (42-14) on September 14, could end up at home watching the Patriots in the playoffs, if Mt. Pisgah can knock off Darlington in Rome.

OK, Class A heads, What do you make of the Power Ranking system and its impact on the Class A football playoffs?

I really hate saying anything negitive about anyone’s team, but Region 6 is so weak ….. I mean, does anyone think any team out of Region 6 will even win a playoff game? Here’s my point … “if” we went by TODAY’S GHSA Rankings …. here’s the match ups …..

This is the PRIVATE side of things ….
# 5 Walker vs # 12 FPD …. FPD would win easily
# 7 Darlington vs # 10 Landmark … Landmark would roll
# 15 Mt Pisgah vs # 2 ELCA … running clock in 2nd qtr
#16 Whitefield vs Athens Academy …. this would be ugly

This is the PUBLIC side of things …
#12 Trion vs # 5 Marion Co …. I think not
#15 Mt Zion Carroll vs Wilcox Co …. UGLY !!

That’s 0-6 !! …. & I don’t even see anything close to an upset in any of these games. It’s just a shame that Our Lady of Mercy “might” be at home when four teams in Region 6 ( Private side ) are in the playoffs …. knowing that OLM could beat any of them …. yes, Walker included.

@Swamp: I tend to agree with you, though I think Walker-FPD would be a better game than you give it credit. The other games would be blowouts, I agree.

I think the lesson for Mercy, and all teams in Class A for that matter, is as long as we have the Power Ranking, you are better served finding teams from larger classifications to schedule. And if you’re locked into contracts with Class A teams for some non-region games next season, time to call the lawyers and see how you can break those deals and find other games that will be worth more points.

That doesn’t seem right or fair, but with the Power Ranking in place, that’s the new law of the jungle, I’m afraid.

Thanks for reading and posting, as always, Swamp!

@Swamp Lizard…couple of things:
1) All of it is pointless because ELCA will win it all by a zillion points…seriously…but that aside for a moment…
2) I do not dispute that Region 6 is not as strong as the others, but when you look at the linkages between regions of games played that allow for comparison, it is much closer in many cases than you think…
- Example A – FPD barely got by PACE, which got pounded by Whitefield, who is probably the fifth best team in Region 6…just making a point about FPD beating Walker easily…Pace also got pounded by Kings Ridge (8th or 9th in Region 6)
- Example B – FPD lost to GWA, GWA lost to Pinecrest, Pincrest got pounded by Kings Ridge, again King’s Ridge is maybe the 8th or 9th best team in Region 6
- Also, Walker scrimmaged Landmark, after the first seven minutes (when Landmark scored a TD and field goal) it was a statistical tie in every way…of course that was a lifetime ago for both teams but the point is still the same…
- There are other links all over the place across regions.

With that exception of ELCA many more of these teams are closer than you think to one another. Region 6 may be completely eliminated on the first day of the tournament, but your pronouncements are over the top and silly in their arrogance. Not all schools cheat with blantant recruiting like ELCA…enjoy your tainted state championship.

So… Lets get on the horn and schedule teams like Lovejoy, Camden and Grayson.. Doesn’t matter if we win, just look at the pts from a loss? Is that really what this has come to?

@Walker Fan: Are you really that insecure about your team that you must call another blatant cheaters? You can cross compare all you want.. But to say that Walker stayed with Landmark during a preseason scrimmage…. Serious?! Walker is undefeated this season, yes! Great yr for you guys! But for you to mouth that ELCA is blatant cheaters because Swamp gives his opinion of this system.. Dude really?!?!

@SwampLizard Wow–You have all the answers, its a wonder the state doesnt ask you to pick the teams, since you have seen all of them in person????????? This is not College Football, and none of the teams play in the SEC. So why dont you let the high school boys( there are boys) decide it on the field. Then when it is all said and done, you can come on and say I told you so. Oh can you give me the Lottery numbers for Friday night also. Oh and by the way, Maxwell and AJC have been picking us to lose all year, they have been wrong 75% of the Time. Maybe you could get a job with them. lol lol

@Walker Fan: As I’ve told others, unless you can site a specific example of recruiting by a school, please don’t sully this blog with those accusations. I tend to think that our posters are a bit more learned than those on the other blogs (but hey, I’m biased!), so I’d rather we not go down that “you-recruit-no-we-don’t-yes-you-do” road. It get’s us nowhere.

Also, Kameron Uter (DE/WR, 6-4, 205), arguably Pace’s best player, missed the Kings Ridge and FPD games with an injury.

@LoveFridayFootball: Yes, I’m afraid, for the time being, that is what it has come to in Class A. The best strategy is to look for teams from higher classes — preferably 6A, 5A and 4A — that you feel you can compete with and see if they will schedule you.

Now, that’s much easier said than done, because unless it’s some sort of natural community rivalry (i.e., Holy Innocents-Riverwood), the larger school will probably not want to play the Class A school. There’s nothing in it for them except a potentially “embarassing” loss, although a loss to a really solid Class A school is nothing to be ashamed of. But there is the stigma of losing to a school from the lowest classification.

But,yes, to quote the late, great Walter Cronkite: “That’s the way it is.”

@Mt. Zion Fan: Your Eagles are the very reason why I do not put much stock into the Maxwell Ratings. Maxwell uses a school’s history as a factor. While I think there is some value to it, Maxwell gives history too much influence in its determinations. Better to just leave it out and go on what a team is doing presently.

@ Walker Fan … I’m sorry I hit a nerve. I really didn’t mean to come across as arrogant. I could have used better words describing what team I tought would win. But if you were honest with me, how many games do you think Region 6 would win above? It was just my opinion that they would go 0-6.

There is a lot I agree with you on though. I do think this is a very balanced playoff field, I do think ELCA will be the favorite …. they are the #1 ranked team in the state … & I would think the #1 team would be the favorite to win it. I do wish I was as confident as you though. I think Sav Christian, Prince Ave, Athens Academy & Calvary Day will have a say before it’s all over.

As far as it being “tarnished” IF ELCA happens to win it all … I’m sorry man, but I’ve watch my son, other players & coaches at ELCA work to hard for it to be tarnished. Another thing, if I thought for one second that ELCA was cheating, I would be in Coach Gess office turning it upside down.

STC and SL – The recruiting point has already been well documented by previous posters in comments attached to your blog:
http://blogs.ajc.com/georgia-high-school-sports/2012/10/20/class-a-elca-rolls-pinecrest-pulls-off-stunner-darlington-makes-statement/#comments
With that said, it is simply not statistically possible for school of ELCA’s size to have the number of D1 commits all under one roof…it would be like having a handful of lottery winners all living in one neighborhood by chance. I know you need to be even handed on this STC but the odds are so far fetched it stretches anyones credibility to say otherwise.

LFF…I am not insecure in our team. It has been a lot of fun…and win or lose it has been soemthing special so far for our school community. I would love for us to make some noise in the playoffs…might happen, might not. I continue to contend that this would be an remarkably interesting playoff picture were it the top 16 teams other than ELCA…I believe that at least 8-10 could win it all in that scenario.

@ Love FridayFootball … I agree with you, this system isn’t the best thing in place. Clinch Co … & I love those guys down that way ( my neck of the woods ) …. “might” make the playoffs with a 3-7 record! They are the # 14 team right now with a 3-6 record!

It does look like the best thing for Class A teams to do is beg for these AAAA, AAAAA, & AAAAAA schools to play us. It’s like cheating the system to win. I’d much rather see Class A games like Landmark / Calvary Day ( this year ) …. or a Lincoln Co / ELCA matchup … or Wilcox Co / Prince Ave … or Sav Christian / Wilkinson Co …. games that would be great matchups.

For once, I agree completely with Samp Lizard. This system is going to cheat everyone out of interesting Class A non-region games at the beginning of the season. I continue to applaud Landmark for the games they played including Calvary Day, Athens Christian, and Mt. Paran…games that tell us much about Class A. This bonus for hunting lousy teams from higher classifications should be elimintade. The other change that needs to be considered is something to fix this sub-region crossover mess for those regions sub-divided…what a cluster…

@Walker Fan: Regarding the post you reference, some posters make accusations without facts. Case in point, one mentions “Curl came from Eagles Landing.” I know for a fact that is not true. He began his high school career at ELCA, as did Keyonte Green, who another poster references as someone who was “recruited.”

If a kid and his family decide in 8th grade that they will attend a private high school, for whatever reason — academic, athletic or otherwise — that is not illegal recruiting.

Also, another poster says ELCA pulls kids from the Henry County youth league. ELCA actually has a youth feeder program that competes in the Henry County league. Parents move their kids from one rec team to another all the time for various reasons. Having a kid move from one of the other rec teams in Henry County to ELCA’s rec team is not recruiting. And whose to say that a kid who is a stud at 8 years old will still be a stud at 16?

As for Avery Walls (mentioned by another poster), he is now Avery Sebastian (his mom’s last name). His mom transfered him to ELCA for his senior year from Union Grove. From what I was told by a pretty reliable source, the coaches at Union Grove wanted him to move to linebacker his senior year even though he was going to play safety in college. He asked if he could remain at safety, but, supposedly, the UG coaches wanted him at linebacker. So to help him better prepare for playing safety at Cal, his mother decided to transfer him to ELCA.

If you want to say he was “recruited,” I would beg to differ. If a player wants to be a part of a winning program that has good coaches you feel can prepare you for the next level, there is nothing illegal about transfering to that school, so long as you meet their academic requirements as well as the GHSA’s requirements.

Again, if you have specific, detailed, factual knowledge of recruiting/cheating, by all means, report it to the GHSA and then tell me (I’d love to report the scoop!). But if not, everything else is just rumors and talk.

Thanks again for reading and posting.

@S Thomas Coleman your example about Avery Walls helps the defense. Because a Public school player cannot go to another team, has to file hardship, move. or has to sit out a year. Thats the difference between public and private. And I have nothing against that, if it is good for one it should be good for the other. Recruiting goes on in public schools also, i have seen it first hand with my son, He chose to play with his friends in his community, instead of transferring to local powerhouse schools(we live in carroll cty-you can guess which school was doing the recruiting) Good luck to all Teams Public or Private, It is after all about the competition. And if you cant finish in the top 4 of your region, you should have no consideration for playoffs. come on 4-6. Playoffs

@SwampLizard, yes the private school is weak in 6A exception Darlington, Walker, maybe whitfield(i havent seen them play) Christian Heritage puts up good fight, they will be much better in years to come. They have added new field(eye candy) attracts alot of “Recruits”. Sorry didnt mean to take offense to your remark, but this state is full of pretty good class A schools, and i dont see anybody(unless turnovers cause loss) matching up with ELCA. @Mt. Zion Fan: The Avery example may prove the point that smaller public Class A schools have been trying to make about private schools having a competitive advantage, but it says nothing about the accusations you and others make about ELCA and recruiting.

For Avery and his mom, it was simpler and more convenient to transfer to ELCA, as opposed to finding a home in one of the other public high school zones in Henry County (Henry County, Stockbridge, Woodland, Eagles Landing, etc.).

@Mt. Zion Fan: You are correct. It was Walker Fan who made the accusation against ELCA. However, Avery would not have had to sit out if he moved into another Henry County public high school zone or if he filed an appeal on some other grounds. There have been plenty of student-athletes who have filed appeals, and won them, giving them the ability to play immediately.

I am curious who on this forum is a fan of the new points based system in its entirety. There have been concerns expressed regarding the points earned for playing up classifications. @Walker Fan: Good question. The GHSA says the Executive Committee MAY make some tweaks to the system in the fall sports at some point early in 2013 (there were some issues with the softball rankings). But they would most likely only do so if greatly encouraged by the membership, i.e., the schools/coaches/ADs.

I suspect that if enough parents/supporters complain enough to their coaches and ADs, the word could reach the Executive Committee. But we’ll see.

@ Walker Fan & STC …. I really don’t like the GHSA Power Rankings the way it is …. accumilating points the way teams will going forward to next season ( playing higher classifications ). But I don’t have a soild answer either. I like the Maxwell Ratings … I know it has “flaws” too, but if you look at them right now ( today ), I think they have the teams about as close as you can get from best to worst … if you were seeding the best 16 teams in Public & Private.

As STC has said, they put a lot into the “history” of a team, but it’s also my understanding, by season’s end, after all games are played ….. it’s all based on the season.

Walker Fan

I think teams should be rewarded for playing a more difficult non-region schedule where there is choice in scheduling. I do think there is nothing one can do about one’s region schedule. I would prefer teams get rewarded for playing a challenging non-region schedule within Class A. I would rather see bonus points given out for non-region playing teams that turn out to be the strong in Class A. For example, let reward Landmark for playing (and losing to) Calvary Day and Wilkinson County based on how those teams turned out, but there would be no incremetal bonus for their wins over Mt. Paran and Athens Christian based on how those teams turned out. With that said, I think there might be mreit in discussing whether or not a bonus should be earned in a loss…may not. So in that example, Landmark would have only earned bonus points by having beaten a Class team that turned out to be near the top.

@ Walker Fan …. I see your point, but scheduling traditionaly good teams ( that win 7, 8 or 9 games a year ) could back fire on you too ….. an example of this is Clinch Co this year …. right now they only have 4 wins.

ELCA wouldn’t be the #2 ranked team in the GHSA Power Rankings if they hadn’t beat AAAAA Briarwood Academy this year … they got 10 pts for the win, 8 points for playing up, & probably 4 pts for Briarwood wins.

What’s your take on the Maxwell Rankings that I mentioned?

There’s problems with this system.. No way it will work… How hard do you think it is for ELCA to get teams to play them? VERY! Coach Gess had a very hard time getting the teams oor to schedule… Like STC said, who in 3A or 4A has anything to gain by playing and loosing to ELCA or any 1A school. None of them… No Henry Co team will play ELCA…. So, if we are boycotted by higher teams, what then? Im sure 3A and 4A wont have as much problem playing teams they feel they can pound. So some schools will get the higher class games and pts, while others won’t…
Why not just take the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place team from each region and that’s who goes to the post season.. Or however many places it takes to make out the ladder…

SL and LFF…I would be more supportive of going back to simply taking the top two teams in a region as the method of picking the playoff teams than going purely Maxwell Ratings I believe. At least with the first and second place finisher model, we can all see and understand how we got there. I do think in the old system, where four teams were taken, there was belief that by going four deep, it was unlikely that a very, very good team would be left out. I think the reason they went to the system we are under is that by picking only two teams from a region, there is high probability that a very good team might be inappropriately left out. The funny thing about all of all of this is, if we simply used the first weekend of the playoffs (16th), all teams could be in…and I would be fine with Maxwell being used to determine the seedings in that scenario.

As I sit here and think more about this, the top two model (or top any model) is very difficult in a split system (publick and private)…the real reason I suppose for going to this points system based model. I am starying to be of the mind that we should include all teams who want to be there (and who played a region schedule), and seed them by Maxwell.

@S. Thomas Coleman Thank you for your replies concerning recruiting. I have always just read the blog but was going to post as I am tired of hearing about ELCA recruiting. I agree with you……. anyone accusing them of that please …. and I mean please provide facts. I think many people forget that ELCA is working to provide their students a good Christian education and to prepare them to get into college. To say that they are cheating by recruiting is totally wrong.
Also before we crown ELCA as the State Champion I believe that we will need to play the games first. I say that because I believe that ELCA was clearly more talented then Landmark last year but again that is why you play the game. Anything can happen. Who wins the games….. the team that came to play!

@ GaNole05 … very well stated on both … recruiting & having to go out and play the games. I still think ELCA has a lot to prove. The schedule hasn’t been what I thought it was going to be this year … I thought Briarwood would be a beast, turns out they are having a down year for them. Then Clinch Co, a game I thought would be a battle, has had a down year. ELCA lost 24-19 to a very good Washington Co team …. so there’s a lot yet to prove. Do I think they are the best team in the state? Yes I do …. there are very few holes on that team. But then again, as GaNole05 stated above, I thought they had a good shot at it last year until Landmark lined up and hit them in the mouth & won 14-7.

i wonder if Brookstone even has a chance to win their first play off game. I am a brookstone fan, but i question that. they are the best team in region 4 even though it may be hard to believe. Dooly may have outstanding talent, But that only goes so far and their coaching is absolutely pitiful. Marion was beat more handily than the 35-28 score shows in the brookstone game. does anyone think brookstone could beat GWA at home? george walton

@ Tom Jones …. I’ve seen George Walton play this year and have close friends …. thier kids play there ….. they have a stud RB, very good QB, and playmakers along the line. I haven’t seen Brookstone play …. just going off who they’ve played …. lost to & beat …. I’d say George Walton would win if I was a betting man. George Walton has a very good football team …. they have lost some heartbreakers this year. If they come to “play”, they could be a hard out in the playoffs & could make a deep run.

For all of you who accuse ELCA of cheating and recruiting you really need to stop. First, as a private school if you want to send you child there all you have to do is pony up the tuition and they will gladly take you.
But that really has no bearing on the success of the football, softball, baseball, volleyball (well you get the idea) teams. The truth is they have an athletic program not just players. Yes, the football program has feeder teams that participate in the Henry county youth league. Huge advantage to have kids in k-6th grade who are already putting on the ELCA uniform. Yes, they have kids who show up at 6 a.m. to lift and condition and the parents make sure they are there. Come to a game and look at how strong and well-conditioned the kids are and you know why they are winning. To say they are recruiting is just lazy and untrue! Demand better of your coaches especially if you are at a private school.

Don’t be fooled by Darlington’s record. Their first two losses came from an undefeated Cartersville team and an undefeated team in TN, that won the state championship last year. Their loss to Mt. Zion came after their star quarterback left with an injury and didn’t play the entire second half.

@Darfan Sorry Butler didnt do anything in the first half, Give mt. zion there due. If we would have an field goal kicker, score would have been by a little more. Butler is great athlete, at QB he is Average. And the reason he was knocked out of the game, was because of the defense. And Darlingtons running game offense and defense is very average, we rushed for 400yds.

A note on scheduling for next year ….Most teams signed on for a home and home non region 2 year series with teams that started with this season and will conclude next season. Will be hard to make scheduling changes for next fall to ‘play the points game’ for Power Ranking reasons. Guess you could see a whole fruit basket turnover in ‘out of region games’ for next fall but that is unlikely . Our school is set to play the same teams … And again has to play a team that is playing a non region schedule…for the 4th year ( = NO points, etc for that ) .
