AAAAAA blog: Region-by-region rundown of playoff scenarios

Region 1

Camden County clinched the region title with its 24-7 victory over Lowndes on Friday, and the Wildcats will be the No. 1 seed regardless of the outcome of their game against Colquitt County this week. Lowndes will be the No. 2 seed. A Valdosta victory over Coffee would make Valdosta the No. 3 seed and Colquitt County No. 4. Coffee still has a shot, but the Trojans must beat Valdosta.

Region 2

Lovejoy and Newton have clinched the top two positions, and Alcovy has clinched a playoff berth. The winner of the Rockdale County-Druid Hills game will be the other playoff team. If Rockdale County wins, the Bulldogs would be the No. 4 seed and Alcovy would be No. 3. If Druid Hills wins, the Red Devils would be the No. 3 seed and Alcovy No. 4 (unless Alcovy upsets Lovejoy, which would then give Alcovy third place).

Region 3

Hughes clinched the first region title and No. 1 seed in the program’s short history with its 17-13 victory over Tri-Cities on Friday. The winner of this week’s Newnan-East Coweta game will take second place, and the loser will be No. 3. The winner of Friday’s game between Douglas County and Tri-Cities will be the No. 4 team.

Region 4

McEachern has clinched the region title and No. 1 seed. North Cobb (which plays Campbell), Marietta (vs. Harrison) and Hillgrove (vs. McEachern), can clinch the second, third and fourth seeds with victories this week. Hillgrove can earn a playoff spot even if it loses to McEachern if South Cobb loses to Pebblebrook or North Cobb beats Campbell. South Cobb can still make it if it wins, Hillgrove wins and North Cobb loses.

Region 5

Lassiter has clinched the No. 1 seed, and Walton has wrapped up second place. The No. 3 seed will be the winner of the game between Woodstock and Milton, which has clinched at least a playoff berth. Etowah can take fourth place if it upsets Lassiter and Woodstock loses. However, barring an upset by Woodstock or Etowah, Wheeler would finish as the No. 4 seed if it beats last-place Cherokee.

Region 6

Johns Creek, West Forsyth and Alpharetta are tied for first place and have clinched playoff berths. The region’s other playoff team will be the winner of the Chattahoochee-Centennial game. West Forsyth will be the region champion if it beats sixth-place Lambert. If West Forsyth loses, the winner of Friday’s Johns Creek-Alpharetta game will take the title.

Region 7

Norcross has clinched the region title, and North Gwinnett will be the No. 2 seed. The winner of the Collins Hill-Mill Creek game will be the No. 3 seed, and the loser will be the No. 4 seed.

Region 8

Parkview, South Gwinnett, Grayson and Brookwood have clinched playoff berths and play each other this week (Parkview vs. South Gwinnett, Grayson vs. Brookwood). Here are the four possible outcomes and the seeding they would produce:

*If Parkview, Grayson win: 1. Parkview, 2. Grayson, 3. South Gwinnett, 4. Brookwood

*If Parkview, Brookwood win: 1. Parkview, 2. Grayson, 3. South Gwinnett, 4. Brookwood

*If South Gwinnett, Grayson win: 1. Grayson, 2. South Gwinnett, 3. Parkview, Brookwood

*If South Gwinnett, Brookwood win: 1. South Gwinnett, 2. Parkview, 3. Grayson, Brookwood

Wouldn’t be surprised if Lowndes loses in the first round. After watching I don’t think they are as good as they think they are. They have the potential even without the anointed ones that are injured but I think they really think they are good because of the name on their uniform. I’m afraid they will get a wake up call early in the playoffs.

I didn’t say we would beat Lowndes, I said it could be a close game if our defense shows up

Seems to me that Marietta and North Cobb are underrated on this blog. I haven’t seen either play but overlooking teams like this is how you get upset

@how ’bout – Yep, you are so correct! Thanks for straightening me out. I think I was mentally a week behind when 2 Camden losses would have moved them to the other bracket.

@Camdenfan and @sportsnut – The same thought ran through my mind when I was reading about catching up with a wingT. At least how Grayson plays the wingT, ball control, ball control, ball control. One reason our D is so good is they stay reasonably fresh as they don’t have to be on the field all night. Not always but often enough to stand out we win time of possession big time. I assume Camden is the same way. I do agree that a passing team can score quickly but when that it offset by a ball control team with a a good D, I think at least in high school the run team wins.

lowndes o line was not manhandled…..camden was blitzing from all sorts of angles and camden is very very fast……i was not going to say another word about lang and burgman but someone from camden had to bring up shutting lowndes running game down again….so i just wanted that person to understand you shut it down but it was not the main guys…..id like to see it shut down like that again when 1000yds rushing and 14tds is on the field in the combonation of lang and burgman.

lowndes will have a tough road to hoe to have that chance…..camden …not so tough…the first two games for camden are powderpuffs…..then grayson or norcross……then prob mceachern or region 1 team 4 …prob colquitt whom they play friday

Bksmith14…..Get a life. All someone said was they stopped Lowndes Wing-t every time except the first drive. You keep harping about what wasn’t there. If it helps you sleep at night dreaming of what you obviously think are the greatest football players to ever play the game then you dream about it. They did not play against Camden you lost. No one will ever know what might have happened if they did play. They might have scored or they might have broken a leg. You lost get over it. Karma is going to bite Lowndes in the butt if you keep on crying about it. Lowndes will get them back and someone else besides Valdosta or Colquitt will shut them down. But I guess then it will be because there shoes were laced up incorrectly.

@Wouldn’t be surprised

I would rather it be as you wrote than the way it was, “”"never won”"”.. We had to learn over years, and I do mean years, to learn how to win….But you got it wrong, it is not what is written on their jerseys, it is what is written on their hearts, they play hard and know how to block and the main thing is how they play, as a team… that is the only reason we have a 9-1 season..

Wouldn't be surprised

What I really meant was more of a warning or a call for a wake up not a real prediction. What I thought I saw was ok we (lowndes) were supposed to lose to Camden but not anybody else. Nothing’s a given and that’s a lesson most people learn the hard way

camden shut down lowndes wing t with the 2nd stringers running the ball……..just stating the obvious. Never said lowndes wins the game if they play, but the 2 that didnt play are the fastest guys on the team and we needed them against camdens speed. We will need them against any other d that has speed like that .

I have a life……and a good one at that.

High school is very similar to the NFL in the sense that cold weather plays a huge role in determining matchups up to the dome…..I think this has something to do with the fact that running teams normally far better..that is not to say a passing team could not win it, but highly doubt it.

….Hillgrove is allowing 17… – sportsnut @3:21

Lassiter put 37 on them in the first half earlier this year. That includes 194 yards rushing. The Lassiter offense is balanced. They are not just a passing team. The running game is spread among multiple backs so without 1 guy doing all the heavy lifting people tend to think they cannot run the ball. The rest of the state of Georgia should be counting their blessings Tyren Jones transferred to Walton.

@Wouldn’t be surprised

if Marietta came to the palace and gave it all they had and made a game out of it, then my hats off to um… but be ye warned, we had a record as you all did last year, and traveled just as ya’ll will and beat, I believe a good team in Stephenson, the first round last year…

and can’t remember when we have lost the 1st round (someone let me know) So again I mean no disrespect at all, do not think you all have seen as fast a team as lowndes,

I like you all are just happy to play the 2nd season..

Good article from the Moultrie paper on the upcoming Camden game. Not much ammo for the die hard Propst haters…he’s paying compliments to the Camden team. Better luck next time.

bk, “TBT Time” is from Marietta. That will make that possible matchup for Lowndes quite interesting for one of “our” guys. I know he is really looking forward to that being our first round opponent. Maybe he should swap places with “Sideline” for the pre-game interview. (he’s a loyal Viking now!) In response to your 11:30 pm post, thanks to Harrison and McEachern, I don’t think Lowndes will ever “overlook” any team from Region 4-AAAAAA. Remember what Hillgrove did to Camden a few seasons ago?

If Lowndes can get by whichever team it plays from that “feared” Region 4-AAAAAA, our 2nd round game would most likely be at Lovejoy (unless sportsNUT has been feeding us a constant load of big city garbage all season and some team from Coweta County beat’s em in the 1st round, which is a real strong possibility!!) Lovejoy is without a doubt a team Randy McPherson would get our guys “up” for. In his first year at Lowndes they gave us our worst loss since Moby Dick was a minnow, and I know for a fact Coach Mac has not forgotten it. I just hope it’s not as cold this year as it was back in 2002. My ding dang toes almost froze!

BK, you guys are really looking at the Camden / Lowndes game all wrong.

First, the Lowndes running backs ran into a Camden defensive wall’ almost every play except the first possession. You could have put Barry Simms or Walter Peyton back there and they still would have run into that wall gaining almost no yards. Having your good running back missing made absolutely no difference.

Second, Lowndes ineffective running game was actually their best defense. By running the clock out they kept Camden from scoring several more touchdowns. Imagine, if you will, that Lowndes had been an ineffective passing team instead of an ineffective running team. Then each possession when they went three and out would have taken very little time off the clock. Camden would have gotten the ball more times and Camden would have scored another 2 or 3 touchdowns.

Instead, by running the ball into the line each of their 3 and out possessions, they took time off the clock. This gave Camden fewer possessions and consequently fewer points. McPherson’s wing-T was actually a very successful defensive strategy so that the final score made the game appear to be much closer than it really was.

I know that Norcross is very excited to be the champions of Division 7 AAAAAA. However, Kamara will not be breaking off big plays once Norcross faces some of the strong running defenses from elsewhere in the State. Norcross simply won the right to face those defenses earlier in the playoffs. Unless Norcross has a Plan B, they will be watching girls basketball in a few weeks; wondering what happened.

For all of the discussion here about the strength of Camden, Grayson, Lowndes, I feel pretty confident that only 1 of those three teams will make it to the semi-finals.

Good luck to everyone, the real fun is about to begin. Georgia’s November Madness is almost upon us.

Burgman’s certainly been a workhorse for Lowndess this season with 687 rushing yards, but Lang ranks only #50 in AAAAAA with 263 total rushing yards. Hard to imagine Lang making a significant difference in the Camden/Lowndes game. Maybe Burgman makes it a little closer but he’s not a game changer like Tyren Jones (Walton) or Alvin Kamara (Norcross).

Nevertheless, it’s good to see BKSMITH and CAT57 upholding the “Whinersville” tradition (hahahaha….).

Everyone is “assuming” a lot LOL There’s a lot of other teams that will be playing the same game, with the same rules, and the same objective…There’s going to be some surprised fans and some pissed off fans out there in disbelief before it’s all said and done.

brookfan…you know nothing about the lowndes team other than what you read. I go to all the games and if you want to know ask me.

burgman has almost 800yds rushing with 9 tds. He did not play the last 3 qtrs against tifton and did not play at all against camden. tiquan lang has 265 yds rushing and 5 tds…..and he has very very limited time at rb……if he played every game at rb he would have over 1000 yds for the season. He did what he has done in about 4 games of limited action. These 2 would have made a difference…we are not as good without them…thats all there is to it

@ AVikingFan == Anything is possible. I would never feed you garbage though. Lovejoy will be ready to play. Stop our running and we will pass. Stop both and you win. All you guys have to do is a little work and you will see what I do. I know it is hard to leave that bubble that is region 1 but there is ball being played everywhere. Good ball too. Oh yeah, it is supposed to be cold so wear your wool socks that is if we both make it.

Tiquan lang was missed on defense and especially specila teams punt returns.Take robert Kembeitchee out of grayson defense and they lose more games.Im not say Tiqaun and bergman could have won the game. Butt im telling the score would have been lower.

An insignificant aand immaterial comment: Camden actually only scored 17 points on Lowndes, with the last touchdown being that long pass that caught the Lowndes secondary napping in the closing seconds of the game. You see, ESPN replays clearly showed Camden’s first TD was not a TD. Camden’s ball carrier actually fumbled the ball BEFORE crossing the goal line and it was recovered in the endzone by Lowndes for a touchback. Soooo for those people only loking at scores, 17-7 vs 24 to 7 succeeds in convincing clear minded folks that Lowndes may actually be better than often thought. And trust me, Tyquan Lang and Nick Burgman are good for 10 points!
