Northside, M.L. King win big showdowns to clinch region titles

Here are five of the big stories from Week 11 in Class AAAAA:

*Northside still rules: Keshun Hill rushed for two touchdowns and had two TD receptions to lead Northside to a 35-28 victory over cross-town rival Warner Robins to clinch the Region 2-AAAAA championship. The region title was the fourth straight for the Eagles, who have won 30 consecutive regular-season games and seven of the past eight against Warner Robins. The Demons trailed 28-21 and had the ball in the fourth quarter with a chance to tie, but Northside’s Marquez Moore came up with an interception to set up Hill’s final touchdown, a 25-yard touchdown run that put the game away.

*M.L. King wins 6-AAAAA: Monquavious Johnson threw three touchdowns passes, including two to Demarquis Polite-Bray, as the second-ranked Lions beat Tucker 24-17 to clinch the championship in Region 6-AAAAA. It is the third consecutive region title for M.L. King, which moved down from the highest classification this season. Tucker, which won the Class AAAA championship in 2011, has now lost two regular-season games for just the second time since 2006. The Tigers are left to battle with Stephenson, Miller Grove, Mays and Southwest DeKalb for positioning and the region’s other three playoff berths.

*Kell, Union Grove win subregions: Kell and Union Grove earned No. 1 seeds for their regions’ play-in games with victories on Friday. Kell beat east Cobb rival Pope 31-3 to take the 7-AAAAA Division B title and will play Forsyth Central for a shot at a state playoff berth. Union Grove rallied from a 33-14 halftime deficit to beat Drew 34-33 and capture the subregion title in 4-AAAAA Division A. The Wolverines will face McIntosh next weekend for a playoff berth.

*Gainesville’s stunning loss doesn’t change playoff picture: Loganville pulled off perhaps the upset of the year in Class AAAAA when it rallied to beat Gainesville 46-41, but it didn’t alter the playoff race in 8-AAAAA. Gainesville (7-2, 6-1) will still win the region title if it beats Flowery Branch (7-2, 7-0) next weekend and would finish second with a loss. Loganville (3-6, 2-5) already had been eliminated. Bernard Merriweather scored on a 1-yard run with 24 seconds left for the Red Devils, who outscored Gainesville 26-0 in the second half. “We out-executed them and punched the ball right down their throat,” Merriweather told the Gainesville Times.

*Playoff drought ends for Richmond Hill: David Katzman rushed for 225 yards and three touchdowns in Richmond Hill’s 44-14 victory over Jenkins in Region 3-AAAAA as the Wildcats (7-2, 4-2) clinched their first playoff berth since 1996 and their second in the 27-year history of the program. The 1996 team, which finished 9-4 and reached the Class AA quarterfinals, is the only other one in school history to win seven or more games in a season. Richmond Hill will be either the No. 3 or No. 4 seed and face Northside or Warner Robins on the road in its first-round game.

@SWD Panther Paw…. nobody has to make this stuff up.

The point system would only include the tied teams.
With a team getting no more than 15 points for a win. ( Team “a” beats Team “b” 50-0; team “a” receives 15 points team “b” receives -15.)
If the win is less than 15 points then the winning team receives points equal to the margin of victory. (Team “a” beats Team “b” 14-7; Team “a” gets 7 points and Team “b” receives -7

So going into the final week points look like this for Tucker, Mays, and SWD (teams that could potentially be tied)

Tucker +15 ( 29-0 W over SWD)
Mays -7 (14-7L to SWD)
SWD -8 (29-0 L to Tucker -15) (14-7 W over Mays +7)

So all Mays has to do is win to create a tiebreaker situation… giving them the edge b/c their point total would be higher than SWD.

If they lose… none of this even matters SWD gets the 4th seed with a win over Dunwoody

Come on guys! The Past is the past and all that really matters is the ‘here and now!’ Tucker has been State Champions for the past several years, and that is great; but what the focus for Region 6 5A needs to be right now is getting prepared to advance through the Playoffs and hopefully having representation at the GA Dome for the Final Championship Game.

All this “In Region” mouthing off against each other needs to cease … you guys sound like a bunch of kids in a *enis swing contest. At this point we all should be supporting one another!

@KOD

Stephensons correct classification was the largest until the 2010-2011 season. That’s the only year the elected to play up.

SHS enrollment numbers have always been over 2000 students which back in the late 90’s and early 2000’s qualified for the largest classification.

True enough they have been one of the smaller schools in AAAA and AAAAA schools, but that was their correct classification.

Tucker didn’t move up, we have always played in the classisfication we are suppose to be in.

Enrollment numbers have dropped for SHS due to the foreclosuer rate that hit south Dekalb, That district was hit the hardest.

And let me make one thing clear, I LOVE Deklab County and will always cheer for a Region brother when they are not playing my Tucker Tigers.

And also, I don’t think it’s “eating crow” if I think my team is better than yours. You should never think your team is gonna lose, thats why they play the game. #IMO

@ Tiger4Life, please sit down somewhere with that stuff, as was said before Tucker in ancient, it took them over 30 + years, plus a coach from Camden county to finally win it’s first 2 state championship what have they done doing there 1st 10 to 15 years . Stephenson & MLK are premeire teams, they are powerhouse, there are not too many teams who have just opened their doors can say they have a winning percent like these 2 schools. You guys are just mad because both of them schools came down and totally dethrone you> Tucker will no longer dominate region 6AAAAA. You did nothing but talk * bragg the beginning of the season how you was going to dominate both Stephenson & Tucker, it hasn’t happen now you got ajc backing you and you are still the number 3 team in region 6AAAAA and that may change after you loose to Mays on Friday night…YOU HEARD ME!!!

You can say what ever you like, but when you tell a lie and it’s facts to prove otherwise I will call you out. Simple as that.

Ofcourse we don’t like losing games, but at the end of the day life will go on.

It doesn’t matter how long we been in exstence to win a ring, the point is we have TWO to your NONE.

Camden Co. had to start somwhere to win their first. Lets see…. They played 50 years before there first Championship, and They had to get the coach from Oconee Co. to do it.

So whats your point? Sounds like a winning formula to me :-) Do your history before stepping to me.

@Tiger4Life, If Stephenson is average and beat Tucker, then you are not so average! Stephenson is known nationally for putting guys in D1 school, has average the most in the state the last three years; in Tucker 40 + year history would like to know your winning percentage. Our time will come if not this year next tear or the year after, but I promise you this TUCKER CRY BABIES, it wont takes us 40 + years and a south Ga. coach to win a state championship!!! Let me remind you again Stephenson 13 Tucker 6 MLK 26 Tucker 19… Tucker is 3rd place in the region and could be fighting to make a playoffs birth after Mays beat you on Friday… WE ARE STEPHENSON JAGUARS TOP 2 CATS IN REGION 6AAAAA (BEAT TUCKER TIGERS)***

NOTE: DO I NEED TO START INCLUDING THIS BEHIND MY POSTS TO REMIND TUCKER… ;)

So JAB, I finally realize why you keep bringing up the scores, that’s the biggest victory in your schools history. Sure and I think you know like the rest of us, Stpehenson will never hoist the Throphy of State Champs.

And I been hearing “this is our year” crap since the Reggie Ball days. He has played four years at Tech, tried his luck in the NFL, sat around a couple years and came back to coach and Stephenson still has nothing to show.

We will see who’s here in the third round. Just like Chip said, Stepheson is a few plays from being 4-4. Everyone knows your weak. I just hope you guys can make it to the semi’s.

@ Old Gold Panther are you sure about that??? Tucker has won the head to head matchups with May’s and SWD giving them the 3rd seed. SWD defeated May’s head to head giving them the 4th seed. If one of Tucker’s 3 losses had been to May’s then I could see the need for the three way tie-breaker.

Region 6

M.L. King has clinched the region title. Stephenson can clinch second place with a victory against North Atlanta, and Tucker can take the No. 3 seed with a victory against Mays. Southwest DeKalb, Miller Grove and Mays are tied for fourth place, but Southwest DeKalb will get the playoff berth unless it loses to 1-8 Dunwoody and Miller Grove (vs. M.L. King) or Mays (vs. Tucker) pull off an upset.

First, let me say CONGRATES to the Lions of MLK for their victory over Tucker and being crown 2012 REGION 6 CHAMPION … well deserved and well earned.

@JAB – First, none of Tucker Nation is running and hiding. We are still here and very much in support of our Tigers … Just like you are in support of your JAGS. This year’s regular season, Stephenson and MLK beat Tucker on the scoreboard and hats off to both PROGRAMS for this accomplishment. But don’t speak like either win was total domination … could have gone either way. The remarks on Tucker will no longer win the region, well the future will tell that story. Let’s see in 5 years who has the most region championships. My guess, you will find that there will be no dominate team … the region is JUST that strong. It’s time to prove the regular season work put in by our playoff representatives, to the rest of 5A and the team chest beating against each other is OVER … until we meet in the playoffs. (LOL)

As MIGHTY LION KING stated – LIONS AND JAGUARS AND TIGERS AND PANTHERS (SWD will be #4) … The mighty jungle cats are about to be unleashed on the rest of 5A.

@DeKalb and Region 6 Fans – 2012 regular season did not disappoint any of us, whether your individual team accomplishes their goal or missed it by a play. We were entertained with some of GA best HS football teams weekly. As a couple of posters mention, unfortunately there will be two quality teams that will end their season Nov 9th … this only continue to give us the best Friday Nights. If our region playoff representatives preform like the Friday Night shows we witness in the regular season, Region 6 will be there at the end.

“WE ARE TUCKER” – A VERY, VERY, VERY DANGOUS 3rd SEAT
