Five things we noted from Class AAAAAA on Friday –
- No. 1-ranked Camden County is the champion of Region 1 after traveling to No. 4 Lowndes and winning 24-7. Lowndes scored on its opening drive, but Camden controlled the game from there. Camden (9-0) plays No. 10 Colquitt County (6-3) next week in an attempt to finish unbeaten in region play, but the No. 1 seed is secured.
- Hughes, Lassiter and McEachern joined Camden in clinching region titles. Hughes (8-1, 4-0) won its first in history, in Region 2, with a 17-13 victory over Tri-Cities. This is a 4-year-old south Fulton County school that had finished 2-7, 2-8 and 3-7 in its previous three seasons. McEachern (7-2, 6-0) won Region 4 with a 62-21 victory over Harrison. It’s McEachern’s third title in four seasons. Lassiter (9-0, 6-0) won Region 5 with a 28-14 victory over Roswell. It is Lassiter’s second region title, first since 20009.
- South Gwinnett remained in contention for the title in Region 8 with a 42-38 victory over Brookwood. QB Jordan Ramey passed for 382 yards and four touchdowns. South Gwinnett (7-2, 6-1) can clinch at least a No. 2 seed and home playoff game with a victory next week over Parkview (7-2, 6-1). For South to win the title, Brookwood would have to upset Grayson (8-1, 6-1). If Grayson and South Gwinnett win next week, Grayson is the champion.
- Walton is the No. 2 seed in Region 5, but might be missing Tyren Jones, who left the game in the first half with a knee injury and did not return in a 21-16 victory over Etowah. The win clinched a home playoff game for the Raiders. Jones returned to the field in the second half but did not play. He was expected to get an MRI on Saturday morning. Jones, who is committed to Alabama, entered the game with 1,675 yards rushing.
- Joshua Dobbs of Alpharetta might’ve become the first player to pass for 3,000 yards this season. Unofficial stats for Friday’s game – a 41-23 victory over Centennial – credited him with 382 yards and four touchdowns. That would put him at exactly 3,000 yards passing on the season with 24 touchdowns.
FYI – If Coffee beats Valdosta, and Camden beats Colquitt, next week, that will force a 3-way tie fir first place. The likely playoff teams then would be Coffee and Colquitt.
The tiebreaker, if I understand it, would be points allowed against those three teams + Lowndes and Camden. In other words, ”all playoff contending teams.”
That would eliminate one team. After that, it’s head-to-head.
As it stands, the points allowed are …
Colquitt – 64
Valdosta – 96
Coffee -97

Fred….Show me ONE of my post where I’ve said anything near what you’re inferring! Undoubtedly you read into my post what you want to. I’ve always given credit to any team I believe deserves it. I’m not a politician like you. I say what I believe!

@ Fred == I am just along for the ride. You are right in your assesment of Your Highness74. Loves to dish but can’t take it. I told him it was not healthy. Back to football. We were awe struck last season. We did not know how to handle it. We are back and with a different attitude. Hopefully this time we will do a little better. First things first though. We must continue to look at it 1 game at a time and we will be o.k. We lost that game on 3 plays. Unfortunately, they were all touchdowns. No excuses though, We lost. Live and learn is what the team took from it. Maybe they learned how to win it all this time. It will be a tough road within this bracket. Lowndes, Marietta, Parkview or Grayson, North Gwinnett and Alpharetta. Not easy.

Guys, we are getting tooooo personal in our verbage. Let’s keep it about the teams, the players, and the coaches. About the games. There’s far too much ENR in a lot of us, and one of him is too much.
There ARE some highly respected folks on these blogs, proven over the years. REEZE, SPORTSFAN31313, FRED, GRAYRAM, TOPPER, THECANNONRULES, YO, VIKINGDAD, to name a few.
Just saying……….

By the way, TBT Time, you on here with us? Got our tickets for Friday yet? I like the idea of hitching a ride with the Camden player buses when they drive thru Tifton, and wearing our Alabama shirts and binoculars!

topper……I’ll answer that question, even though it’s none of your business. The last Camden game I attended in person was the Camden-Colquitt playoff game last season! But what you are not privy to is the access I have to seeing every game multiple times on video. Now, let me ask you a question. What years did you play for Camden?

sportsnut……Why would I continue to answer questions that I’ve answered multiple times before. We have been having this conversation since before the season started. If you did not take the time to understand what I’ve said/posted over and over before, how would answering your questions again make a difference?

Great, so you should understand the game. I also played for Camden, a three year starter and I also know/understand the game. I don’t always agree with the on field coaching decisions. But, as I’ve stated before, Coach Herron has done something that no other Camden Coach has and that’s win three State Titles and put a winning program in place. That’s probably the reason he’s the Head Coach and I’m not! If you have not followed the posting history between sportsnut, Fred and myself, then you have no idea of where and how this all started.

Topper…..If you’ve read all of my post, you would see that I have been trying to move on from the conversation with sportsnut by not continuing to answer the same questions over and over again. When I tried to move on, Fred posted something to the effect that I was dodging sportsnuts questions and not wanting to heed my own advice/information, and that’s just not the case. I asked sportsnut to let it go and let’s see what happens in the playoffs. So, unless someone else continues to push the issue, I’m finished!

@ Your Highness74 == I just want to talk football. This is what happens though when there is a lot of talk but no communication. People feel the way they do because you act as though you know it all. You address everyone with condescending language and tone. It may not be apparent to you but this is the case. We all love our programs but you attack anything that is not Camden. We all are here to talk football and that is what I am going to do. Good luck the rest of the way and I hope we meet in there somewhere.

All the comments expressed by all the other red-necks were totally expected. Both defenses were good. The game was determined by a few critical plays (breakdowns for Lowndes). The fact remains that McPherson was simply out-coached by a coach who in addition to having a good ground game, can develop a quarterback who can pass. Lowndes will always be on the hind teat until they get some kind of a passing attack. Said they wouldn’t move the ball on a team as big as they were…and they didn’t.

East Coweta held Lovejoy to it’s lowest point total of 30, other than the Colquit score. We will not draw East. It will be Tri-Cities or Douglas County. By the way, there are some that think Lowndes will lose to Marietta. Never can tell until the game is played.

For all you Camden haters…You’re clueless! The one time we (Hillgrove) traveled there to play two years ago, they were incredible hosts! They play hard nose FAIR football. Coach Herron is an excellent coach and demands sportsmanship. Anyone that doesn’t appreciate the tradition and type of team Camden is/represents, doesn’t appreciate HS Football.
Camden74…It’s been a while since I’ve been on the blog! We’re looking forward to coming back this year. I’ve heard you all were hoping we would get the 4th seed and it looks like it happened. Gotta promise to be gentle with the Hawks this year as it is our rebuilding year and we don’t have the talent we did last time we met.
Here is the low-down on Cobb: Colquitt will not have to worry about Marietta as the team is overrated, but, excellent coach at the helm that gets the most from his players. Lassiter is a good team but if you stop their QB…You win. North Cobb has good size and well coached and in my opinion one of the toughest teams in Cobb Co. North Cobb has a Sophomore QB that is a dual threat with his arms and legs. McEachern is the real deal – Size, speed, athletes and excellent coach. They also hit hard and if you blink, can/will score three TD’s on you before you know it.
I love the Region 1 vs. 4 for the playoffs. I think it takes two of the stronger regions and match them up for great early playoff games.
We’ll see you next Friday Camden74!!!
