AAAAAA blog: Camden defends No. 1 ranking … Four teams clinch region titles

Five things we noted from Class AAAAAA on Friday –

- No. 1-ranked Camden County is the champion of Region 1 after traveling to No. 4 Lowndes and winning 24-7. Lowndes scored on its opening drive, but Camden controlled the game from there. Camden (9-0) plays No. 10 Colquitt County (6-3) next week in an attempt to finish unbeaten in region play, but the No. 1 seed is secured.

- Hughes, Lassiter and McEachern joined Camden in clinching region titles. Hughes (8-1, 4-0) won its first in history, in Region 2, with a 17-13 victory over Tri-Cities. This is a 4-year-old south Fulton County school that had finished 2-7, 2-8 and 3-7 in its previous three seasons. McEachern (7-2, 6-0) won Region 4 with a 62-21 victory over Harrison. It’s McEachern’s third title in four seasons. Lassiter (9-0, 6-0) won Region 5 with a 28-14 victory over Roswell. It is Lassiter’s second region title, first since 20009.

- South Gwinnett remained in contention for the title in Region 8 with a 42-38 victory over Brookwood. QB Jordan Ramey passed for 382 yards and four touchdowns. South Gwinnett (7-2, 6-1) can clinch at least a No. 2 seed and home playoff game with a victory next week over Parkview (7-2, 6-1). For South to win the title, Brookwood would have to upset Grayson (8-1, 6-1). If Grayson and South Gwinnett win next week, Grayson is the champion.

- Walton is the No. 2 seed in Region 5, but might be missing Tyren Jones, who left the game in the first half with a knee injury and did not return in a 21-16 victory over Etowah. The win clinched a home playoff game for the Raiders. Jones returned to the field in the second half but did not play. He was expected to get an MRI on Saturday morning. Jones, who is committed to Alabama, entered the game with 1,675 yards rushing.

- Joshua Dobbs of Alpharetta might’ve become the first player to pass for 3,000 yards this season. Unofficial stats for Friday’s game – a 41-23 victory over Centennial – credited him with 382 yards and four touchdowns. That would put him at exactly 3,000 yards passing on the season with 24 touchdowns.

FYI – If Coffee beats Valdosta, and Camden beats Colquitt, next week, that will force a 3-way tie fir first place. The likely playoff teams then would be Coffee and Colquitt.

The tiebreaker, if I understand it, would be points allowed against those three teams + Lowndes and Camden. In other words, ”all playoff contending teams.”

That would eliminate one team. After that, it’s head-to-head.

As it stands, the points allowed are …

Colquitt – 64
Valdosta – 96
Coffee -97

It’s all good 57cat. I wasn’t calling you out individually. People just go by what they hear on here instead of actually seeing what happens. This has been going on for years and people really have no clue. They just accuse him of cheating for having players transfer when every one does it and him getting on refs. Big deal. Again, not calling you out at all bc this blog has been a Rush hater since he came to Moultrie. He is not the same coach he was at Hoover. He is a good guy that cares for nothing but the kids. Does he wanna win? Sure what coach doesn’t? But he doesn’t stoop to levels as using ineligible players or use other coaches to steal signs. He’s done nothing at Colquitt, especially since his cancer scare.

@ The Truth == Did you not hear the ESPN announcers say how much he is going to need to improve to play Qb at Georgia ? They made note of the fact that Camden does throw that much so he has to get in the mental preparation of being a passing Qb. This is why I said that in order for you to become proficient at it, you must do enough of it and Camden does not. Clock is running while you are getting 3 yards and a cloud of dust.

BK talking about Colquitts defense. Lowndes only managed 10 points on Colquitts defense. So does that mean Lowndes offense is not very good.

I’m not calling your coach a liar, I’m saying its just accusations and has zero evidence to back it up. He has never had nothing to say but good things about Camden in the media. What did he say exactly, that your coach got out coached? Well he did didn’t he? He certainly admits when our staff gets out coached.

@Colquitt Fan you’re correct in your statements about the media hyping that situation up. I for one just think Coach Propst is a jerk along with the coaching staff. But again I’m only reading the language that the media prints up. I’ve never read where he’s given props to the other team or where he congratulated the opponent. Maybe I’ve missed it or maybe he shouldn’t. He’s just a bad sport from what I’ve read. But I don’t know the man personally so…..

@sportsnut your comparison is flawed because for Brunswick is 3-6 in what we believe is a tougher region. So are Tift, Coffee and Valdosta. They would have run the table in your region I’m sure. How can you compare records unless they play the same people? That doesn’t make sense. You can only tell if they go head to head in the playoffs….period. Or in Lovejoy’s case where they were defeated by a 3 loss team in our region…..

sportsnut..very few QB’s come out of high school without needing work. How many times do you see true freshmen start for Div 1 schools? Facing an SEC caliber defense is far beyond what he will face in high school. According to some recruiting boards, he is the top QB in GA and is regarded higher than Printz at Lassiter in all. Which is funny because if anyone has the “mental preparation” to throw the ball it is Printz, but he is not as highly regarded as Ramsey.

“We knew it would be tough tonight. Camden is deserving of everything it has gotten, and [Camden County head coach] Jeff Herron is one of the best football coaches in the country. This was a program-defining win for us. Everyone from here to Dallas, Texas, to California is going to know about it.

“Two years ago, I don’t think our kids really believed they could win when we came over here. Tonight, we thought we could. We’ll go give it our best shot next week and see if it’s good enough.”

Straight from Propst’s mouth. I’d say that’s giving credit

@ the truth I was comparing Lovejoy’s schedule to Camden’s not Norcross or Colquit’s. Obviously Colquit has had the toughest schedule in the state. Any school that went through Region 1 has at least a semi tough schedule simply because they are playing in the toughest region in the state (by a long shot according to Max Preps). Even Lowndes who played a wimpy schedule the first 4 games (very similar to Lovejoy’s last 9 games) had a semi tough schedule by year end simply because of Region 1 play. Norcross also plays in a fairly tough region so obviously they would qualify as having played a fairly tough schedule at the least.

@ Camden1983 == I f you want to look at common opponents, we can’t do that until friday as Camden plays Colquit. If they would have run the region then they should have made the playoffs. How can you tell me the last place team in region 1 would win ours. You have had a little to much sea water. We will see how strong region 1 is come the first round. @ Yo == I am not saying he is no good. That was the thoughts of the ESPN announcers. I still feel that he is over-rated. He is not involved enough. Take the snap, hand it off. In regard to Lowndes coming to us. We are ready.

I don’t understand why lovejoy is being discussed so much. What have they done to deserve any recognition? Look I’m not saying they’re not a good team even though I’ve never heard of any of the teams they’ve blown out. What I AM saying is….lovejoy is being talked about waaaaayyyyy too much in these posts. @Yo……Yes we may have to bow down to Camden until redemption, they earned it and deserve it from the Eagle Nation……We know good coaching , play execution etc when we see it , just hadn’t seen it in Lowndes since 08 ……Camden is on a much higher level now than Lowndes and will be for a long time….You guys scream about 2 guys being out as if it would have made a diference….Lowndes was having trouble finding the end zone (vs good defenses)with the two kids on the field….7 points against Camden with or without your two game changers…….Randy and the Lowndes OC needs to book a spot on Oprah for an offensive make over , Lowndes offense is tired and predictable just as Warner Robins was a couple years back, which translates to 7 points….Lowndes defense is in the top 3 in all of AAAAAA , even with that expect the usual 2nd or 3rd round exit this year, …..You heard it here first

@sportsnut, you are clueless. #12 from Camden has been getting recruited for the last 3 years because of his solid quarter back play in camps where he has outshined some of the top recruits in the Nation. And for your information he has thrown for a lot of touchdowns this year in that wing Tee offense. Every high school player has to improve when they move on to College, stop hating. You seem like a fairly knowledgeable guy but some of the comments you make are just plain dumb.

Todd a bit of history was made at McEarchern Friday night. First time in GHSA history that two set of brothers on the same team scored rushing touchdowns in the same game and all were over 40 yards. Mike and Ryan Sherman; Ty & Taj Griffin. As a matter of fact every touchdown scored by McEarchern was over 40 yards both rushing and passing. I’m sure that it a GHSA record.

WILDHAWG2012 …….you always find a way to amuse me with your bogus comments…..

how about this one for you……Lowndes beat colquitt county in colquitt county just a few weeks ago and we held your awesome offense to 165 yds…….and it wasnt bc of any binos….we held valdosta to 185 yds and camden to 212 yds……the lowndes viking defense is a good as anyone on the state…….colquitt had 8 yds rushing on lowndes and camden had 78 on 35 carries….

lowndes will take care of businness in rd 1 by 3 or 4 tds over hillgrove or marietta…….then we will go to lovejoy and win a close game……

Lovejoy has lost to the only good team they have played …..scoring 7 points….and they lost to a wing t team last year in tucker in the finals.

Lovejoy is a very good football team….and it is possible lowndes can lost that game.. but i highly doubt it.

colquitt county will not win the title this year…thats a guarantee

Let me inform all you football gurus who think yoiu know football at the high school level.

Lowndes is not going to change what we do on offense. lowndes is best on offense when we have had a very fast athletic qb behind center and we have not had that the last 3 years…we have had more passing style qbs……..well over the next few years that is goinig to change ( i hope) i do know we got a kid coming up named tyson harris…..8th grader who plays qb and made the lowndes all star team . This kid was is fast to say the least and one heck of an athlete and he will grow and just get faster and stronger by the time he hits the varsity in a few years

Lowndes will be fine…..we are better running the wing t when we have a triple threat…2 wingbacks who can take it to the house,…and a qb who can..and its coming soon…stay tuned

here is link to read about this kid

Doesn’t change the fact of what he said and DID on the field to Herron. Good Character and Integrity are defined as what you do when you think no one else is looking or listening. @ Your Highness74 == What you don’t understand is that you can’t make me see things your way. I am not going to change my mind and follow your lead. I will shout it out from the highest mountain if need be. You have a place here that is conducive to your needs. An outlet for your enthusiasm and undying dedication to your team. I too, share with you those things. Because I take a foward position and make my own assesments of the subject matter, a label is attached. I listen. I look. I learn. You would make a good politician. Just as I keep asking you what it is that you want me to know and you you will not clarify. Earlier, I gave you many options as to what you message might be, your response, “you still don’t get it”. Be A Man and Man-Up. It’s only football. We had visions of going undefeated this season. 15-0. Did not happen. Lowndes felt pretty good about the possibility of beating you and being 10-0 to start the playoffs. Did not happen. Grayson expected to run the table and many thought they would. Did not happen. You see, nothing is a given, no matter how much we might want it. I am resolved to that. You, on the other hand, are not. Your dedication goes well beyond what is healthy. You should scale it back a bit. I mean, for the sake of your future. Should Camden lose, especially to someone you feel is inferior, I fear you might have to get a new dog. I do not want this for you. I like you. Do not hurt yourself trying to convert me. Not gonna happen. @ Camden1983 == Your graduation year ? Same as my little brother. As I would say to him, “Hear me now, believe me later” @ Columbia Blue == Not saying they are over-rated as far as talent goes, rather as a powerful region. Region 8 in Gwinnett has just as much with GHS, South, P”view and B”wood. Compare that to Camden, Lowndes and ……….., get the point. They play good ball but there are teams out here today that will put the pressure on you and make your coach’s change their game plan for the sake of trying to stay in the game. This is not a thought for some. They think it will not or can;t happen to them. This is high school football, of course it can happen. Do not be surprised by the first 2 rounds of the playoffs. Something is going to happen that will turn everyones head.

Very interesting and compelling matchup this week between Valdosta and Coffee…a lot of playoff seeding implications…..I am just realizing how important it is for Region1 teams to play even with the game is out of reach because scores allowed determines tie-breaker. That 43 that Camden hung on the Cats is really hurting now…they are only 3 points ahead of Coffee…so they can lose, but not by more than 3….interesting indeed.

I am also amused by the fact that regardless of all the chatter….at the end there will only be one loud voice….who will it be?

Titletown – The 36 we allowed Colquitt to score (24 in the last 5 minutes or so) hurt even more. It sure would be nice to have those 24, or even 16, points in hand. The 43 Camden scored are bad, but at least they were spread over the entire 48 minutes of the game. Not to worry, though. We will beat Coffee and points allowed will be moot.
