AAAAAA blog: Let’s talk basketball – Who will replace Milton at the top? Probably somebody with a key transfer

Basketball practice began this week for a season that starts Nov. 10. Who will replace Milton as boys champion in the highest classification?

As you know, Milton is ineligible for the post-season in the aftermath of allegations of undue influence of coach David Boyd to persuade student-athletes to transfer into the Milton district. Boyd is out as head coach. Soon after, Milton’s only returning starter, Jalyn Patterson, transferred to a school in Florida. Milton should still be pretty good, but obviously won’t win the title.

Milton came under scrutiny for transfers, and transfers will remain in the news this basketball season.

Let’s see if I’ve got this straight …

Brannen Green, the Kansas-bound forward that many consider to be the top recruit in Georgia, has transferred to Tift County and will play with another blue-chip player, three-year starter Tadric Jackson.

Another reported transfer is Kejuan Johnson, one of the elite sopohomores in the state. He went from Wheeler to Westlake and will play with poing guard Tony Bagtas, a first-team all-state player from last season.

We hear that Wheeler is getting a potential star from California in sophomore Jerron Love. And Harold Givens is one and done at Norcross. He originally came from Northside of Columbus. Now he’s gone to a prep school in North Carolina.

Any more to report?

It’s still football season, so we haven’t had much time to study this, but I kinda like these eight boys team:

Alpharetta
Milton
Norcross
North Cobb
Shiloh
Tift County
Westlake
Wheeler

I haven’t begun looking at the girls teams yet. Would love to get feedback there too. Doesn’t take a genius to know that McEachern and Norcross will be good again. :)

We’ll see about those Lady Indians, Todd. Still some good players on the roster but we lost a heap of talented senior leadership. Might not see another player of Pachis’ caliber come through here again…ever. Coach Arthur is still running the show and that means we’ll always have a shot, IMO.

You have it right. Those are the teams that will contend in 6A. Peachtree Ridge, North Gwinnett and maybe Collins Hill as well. I have heard Wheeler will have some issues to start the season, but should be strong at the end.

I hear that one of Wheeler’s starters is injured. But sounds like they’ve got the talent.

Thanks, OMacG … That McEachern team was one of the all-time best in Georgia. Didn’t get enough credit, really.

Todd- I understand what you’re saying about not getting enough credit…but strangely, everyone I know around here seems plenty content with the experience of simply having watched those ladies play last season. I can’t recall ANY team I’ve watched at any level that had as many straight-up assassins on it…stepped out on that court and ripped hearts out, without making much of a peep whatsoever.

The rings, trophy and state title banner being raised helps with that contentment, too, of course. I think in the long run, that team’s place in history will be better understood and appreciated by those outside of Powder Springs.

Why in the hell does anyone want to talk basketball at this point in the football season. Topics like this actually make me like you a little more Todd. You are so bizarre.

Everyone knows Tift Co. coach is recruiting!!! He had a player TJ CROMER play with Tift Co. all summer, but TJ is enrolled at Westover in Albany. Isn’t that the same thing Milton got in trouble for? Tift Co. has had 5 transfers in the last 2yrs. The Austin Pickett thing didn’t work out and i’m not sure the Brannen Greene thing will either. If he you don’t think he recruiting, go talk to the Turner County, Wilcox coaches.

So since Milton got in trouble now everyone want to say they were recruiting. It was a known fact that Boyd was dirty. There are several teams that did more than Boyd.

People neglect to mention that Brannen Green’s mother is employed as a teacher in the Tift Co School System. Who is to say that she won’t stay and teach another 10 to 15 years in Tifton. As for TJ Cromer, he attended school here in Tifton as a Sophomore. He worked out all Summer between his Soph and Junior seasons here in Tifton with the football team. When Tadric returned to the football team after the Summer, TJ Cromer moved to Albany to play football and basketball at Westover. I’m told he moved back to Tifton either late in the Spring or early Summer. Then he moved back to Westover. I don’t think either school should get in trouble, because a young man was torn between two places and two different lives. Austin Pickett moved here with his dad who was a basketball coach for the high school team. As the season progressed he lost more and more time to a home grown kid Ladarius Stewart. This basketball program has been winning for a long time before Coach Holland arrived here. Between 1985 and the beginning of the Holland era, four different coaches had led these Tift teams to Final Fours. This is not really directed at you T. Holcomb, but the hateful comments above.

Well, the World Series is over, UGA is basically out of the hunt for the National Championship again & basketball & hockey have started. It’s the doldrums for sports. Thank goodness we still have football Friday nights.

Savannah always have outstanding AAAAAA teams through the quarter or semis: However, it’s tough to play against recruited AAU players————This augment is over since the teams will now play at the AAA, AAAA and AAAAA level as they now do in football. Back to football!

I think it is perfect timing for a basketball blog entry…especially with the NBA opening up last night. I like these opportunities because it gives me a chance to see the true colors of many of the people posting on this blog.

Yes, but at least Mac got their next recruit from North Cobb, oh wait, that was a ‘hardship’, whatever?! And every other person who has watched Arthur coach before she got to Mac knows they have enough talent to win despite her. That is exactly wjhat happened last year- Dorsey, even you couldn’t have messed that team up!

@ bluecrewfan – You my friend need to learn the GHSA rules before you despute anything. If TJ Cromer returned to Tift Co. last spring and attended Tift Co. for 1 day, he is ineligible to return and play at Westover or any other school in the state this year. He never enrolled at Tift Co., he just played with them this summer so Holland could see how he would fit in. He left Tift Co. last year because Holland and his dad didn’t see eye to eye. The same thing happened with Austin Picket’s dad and Holland. Picket played with Tadrick on the Gerogia Stars AAU team and Holland recruited him and gave his dad a job and helped him rent a house!! Everyone knows Holland is recruiting and the true residents of Tift Co. and pay property taxes are fools to let their kids be pushed aside while Holland brings in all these recruits!!!! Holland can’t coach good enough to win a state title in 6AAAAAA. Heck, he couldn’t even win the region last year with all the talent he had. Lose to a football school in Valdosta and then a first round exit in the playoffs with all that talent is a joke. By the way, everybody knows Tadrick is 2yrs older than his class and doesn’t live IN Tifton, but who cares!!! Rush Propst-Eric Holland are whats wrong with high school sports!!!!!!!!!

@ bluecrewfan_ Oh yeah, get serious. Boo Stewart would have never played if Austin Picket hadn’t left!!!! Holland was forced to play Boo. What player leaves in the middle of the season knowing he can’t play anywhere else in the state. Find Austin Pickets dad and ask how they got to Tift Co. and why they left!!!

There is definitely something fishy going on with Tift Co basketball, but I say this has been going on in the Alanta area forever and that is the only way their will be real competition for state titles below the gnat line.

@Mr. Postman loves short shot Bob: The hand in the face (extended approximately 1 inch from the nose) is very effective in hindering an opponents shot, especially the short & tubby – The guy that perfected this move also had a head fake that was unfair – if you focused on the afro, you left your feet everytime.

Basketball is not down this year. Our 2013 class is not filled with all americans, however 2014 and 2015 class will bring GA back to the national spotlight. All of these players will make this season an exciting one.
