There are eight region games between ranked teams this week, the most of the season so far. That doesn’t include No. 2 Marist at unranked Chamblee in Class AAAA. Both are 8-0.
The games between ranked teams are:
-No. 1 Camden County vs. No. 4 Lowndes (AAAAAA)
-No. 1 Northside-Warner Robins vs. No. 7 Warner Robins (AAAAA)
-No. 2 M.L. King vs. No. 5 Tucker (AAAAA)
-No. 1 Sandy Creek vs. No. 4 Carrollton (AAAA)
-No. 1 Peach County vs. No. 4 Carver Columbus (AAA)
-No. 7 Blessed Trinity vs. No. 9 St. Pius (AAA)
-No. 5 Lincoln County vs. No. 9 Wilkinson County (A)
-No. 7 Wilcox County vs. No. 8 Irwin County (A)
In rankings news, seven ranked teams lost Friday, and none fell out of the Top 10. Most conspicuous among those will be Colquitt County (5-3).
The seven ranked teams that lost are West Forsyth, Parkview, Colquitt, Stephenson, Washington County, St. Pius, Cook.
Only the three AAAAAA teams (West Forsyth, Parkview, Colquitt) lost to unranked teams.
So, how does a three-loss team stay in the Top 10, not dropping a spot after a loss?
Ranking Class AAAAAA is pretty tricky right now. Colquitt has played the toughest schedule in the state and lost three games by three points or less. The Valdosta-Colquitt seemed like a blowout, but Colquitt missed a conversion to tie in the final minute.
Let’s assume everyone agrees on the top six (not the order, just the teams). Let’s look at No. 7-14. They’re listed with their most significant wins and losses -
Lovejoy (8-1) – W-Alpharetta; L-#10 Colquitt County.
West Forsyth (7-1) – W-Johns Creek, Gainesville; L-Chattahoochee
Parkview (6-2) – W-#5 Grayson, Brookwood, L- #3 Norcross, Central Gwinnett
Colquitt County (5-3) – W-#7 Lovejoy, Thomas Central, Carver; L-#4 Lowndes, #6 North Gwinnett, Valdosta
Valdosta (5-3) – W-#10 Colquitt County, L-#1 Camden County, #4 Lowndes, Brooks County
Walton (6-2) – W-McEachern, Brookwood; L-#2 Lassiter, North Cobb
McEachern (6-2) – W-North Cobb, South Cobb; L-#5 Grayson, Walton
Johns Creek (7-1) – W-Lambert; L-West Forsyth
How would you rank them?

I think I would have McEachern in there somewhere. They have won 6 straight since losing their first two games of the season to the two teams that played for the state championship last year.

Why is Colquitt ranked? Losing to weak Valdosta team should knock out Colquitt. Think there are some more deserving teams to consider for No. 10, such as one-loss Johns Creek and Langston Hughes.

Dont be rankled by the ratings. We all want to see our team as high in polls as possible. Does it determine playoff seedings? No. Focus on region record and get ready for playoffs where the only ranking that matters is who finishes first n second on the scoreboard. Cant wait for playoffs!

@ Squeaky wheel syndrome == The blogger carries no weight with the ranker. Lovejoy is ranked where it is because it has earned it. That 5-3 team was picked to challenge Camden and Grayson for the title of the best football team in 6A in Georgia. Go and play your little sissy game with that 5-3 team. We are 8-1, will win our region, are going to the playoffs and will be at home doing it. No matter what you say, these things will not change !

When you say “Colquitt missed a conversion to tie in the final minute” a lot of people will think the kicker missed an an extra point. So as not to disparage the kicker it should be made clear that it was a two point conversion, and was a terrible play call by one Mr. Propst. They ran all over the Cats in that drive for a touchdown and then decide to throw a pass from the 2 yd. line with no room to do it. The QB could have almost walked in with a play action and an option to pass if open. Propst also got a flag during the game and he is not nearly as smart as I had originally thought.

If everyone wants to talk abouthow Propst should have ran the 2pt conversion or how he should have done this or that, how about the obvious holding on the first 2pt conversion that wasn’t called? How about the Colquitt QB stepping out the back of the end zone that wasn’t called??? Propst called a good play, they just didn’t execute!!!!!
@ WarEagle – This weak Valdosta team has 3 loses to 3 teams that are a combined 24-0. #1 AAAAAA CAMDEN COUNTY – #4 AAAAAA LOWNDES – #2 AA BROOKS COUNTY
I fully expect Camden and Brooks to play for state championships!!! Are there any other teams that have lost only to teams ranked in the top 5 in their classification???

The ajc refuse to drop Colquit County out of the top 10. They lost to unranked Valdosta and at 5-3 i just don’t think they are top 10.
How can Carver 8-0 not be ranked, this is crazy! What about Grady. Who is ranking these teams?

Rankings do not matter. It will be Camden vs Grayson for the state championship. They are hands down the two best teams in the state. (Are there any other teams you would rather not play in the playoffs???) All that is left to determine is whether that game will be in the third round at Camden or at the dome in the finals.
Parkview will decide when it happens. If you are on the left side of the brackets you are rooting for Parkview. If you are on the right side of the brackets you are rooting for South Gwinnett.

Truth= Lakewood Stadium very nice! Same design as Grady Stadium. It would be a nice D-2 or 1-AA stadium it is not on the level of any DIVISION 1 STADIUM! Lakewood is one of the best high school stadiums in the state. My high school South Atlanta plays home games at both Grady and Lakewood and they’re both exceptional HIGH SCHOOL STADIUMS, that’s it.

lovejoy has only played one good football team all year ……..and they LOST. They lost to a team who will wind up being a #3 or 4 seed out of our region. The rest of the schedule they have played this year has been cupcakes and it will show when the playoffs start after rd 1. They are a good football team, i am not saying that but they have not been tested . They have only had 1 Test……..and they FAILED.

Not sure how I would rank them other than to take Colquitt out of the top 10. I do not care how tough the schedule is – if you do not win, you do not deserve to be ranked. At this point, I hope Colquitt is more concerned about their last two games than they are the rankings. Otherwise they will spend more time in Moultrie during November/December.

@ BK == Don’t turn your venom our way. We win, thats all. No matter who we have played. You guys sound just like those from a year ago. Check archives, if you could, of last seasons post and the chatter is the same, exactly the same. The difference is we will not claim superiority. We leave that to fans like you. We let our game do the talking. Before you or anyone else responds to my winning comments, let those who did not play for the championship last season excuse themselves from the conversation. No matter the class. ……………………., thats enough. Lets talk Lowndes and their undefeated record. Who did they play ?Luella, they beat them, so did we. Newton, they beat them, so did we. Windsor Forest, Hardaway., Tift. Thats 5-0. The region is not what everyone thought, other than Camden. You barely beat Valdosta, whom many had written off. Let things stay as they are and we will see you in 3 weeks.

I really think people are over looking Valdosta we have three losses to teams that are in the top four in there classifications who have not been beat and only why the packers were able to run on that last drive is because we were playing a safe to come on if everybody is 20 yards back who couldnt run the ball be serious the packers are 5-3 and still have to play coffee and camden

You know nothing about football then LOL Parkview vs Grayson, and Norcross vs Parkview are two completely different dimensions. Norcross is a spread you out kill you with speed team and Grayson aims to kill you by controlling the clock. Quick strike vs ball control…
On defense, Norcross is oportunistic while Grayson wants to kill everything that moves. Parkview had TWO COMPLETELY different game plans offensively/ defensively for Grayson and Norcross. Comparing scores doesn’t tell you anything. If you think that it tells everything, then I’m wasting my time on you LOL
So Parview lost to Central Gwinnett, but Grayson beat CG 52-0…so tell me mr. football….does that make Grayson better than parkview or what? It’s a mute point and no comparison can predict a winner. The game is won on the field.
Even comparing scores between Norcross and Grayson against teams like Mountainview, MeadowCreek, Berkmar, Shiloh, Dacula, doesn’t tell you anything because they are “expected wins”. You and The Cross are overly enamored with the numbers. The game is on the field.

When Warner Robins and Northside-WR play, ranking means nothing. These boys know eack other and play together on summer teams. Most are related—————–the schools are only two miles apart. Neither Colquitt or Stephenson should be ranked…….Stephenson’s pass defense alone should tell you guys that this isn’t a top 10 team….49 points given up to any team warrants an immediate boot from top 10 consideration …Colquitt has losses to top 10 teams , but you also have to look at their performaces in these losses. I didn’t see the Valdosta game . The NG and Lowndes losses were ugly , neither Lowndes or NG are by no means “Great” this year…Lowndes should have put up 40 plus, this Packer team is out of sync and most likely will stay out of sync….Makes you wonder what in the hell they were doing all summer…..Camden will be the final nail in the coffin for the 2012 Hawgs.

Camden – #1 in AAAAAA
Lowndes – #4 in AAAAAA
Burke – #3 in AAAA
The Trojans get their shot at Colquitt this weekend and Your Cats in two weeks.
Coffee has also handed two AAAAA teams their only losses. Ware and Whitewater.

Fans, you are now beginning to see how manipulated the staff of the AJC is. Colquitt County is going to be ranked because their overhyped coach (who’s record in Georgia is laughable for guy who thinks he is so special) has Todd, Chip and the AJC in his back pocket. Remember when Grayson lost? They were out of the polls. Parkview loses and barely moves.
By the way, the top teams in the state are still the top teams in the state (Camden County & Northside-Warner Robins). Northside violated 4th ranked Flowery Branch at Flowery Branch 48-7. What do you think is going to happen to Warner Robins. I will give 7th ranked Warner Robins the rivalry bump of 17 points and call it like this:
Warner Robins 14
Northside – WR 42
Warner Robins will have losses to nationally ranked Northside-Warner Robins and top ranked Peach County. In the meantime, these overhyped and grossly overrated middle tier programs like Colquitt County & Valdosta continue to get respect. It is getting funny.

Lovejoy will play with you, period. Remember, when things get close and there are only a few left, that is when all three phases of the game must be played at a high level Passing game is a must. Running game is a must. Special teams must do their jobs. I told you, you won;t get 291 yards running the ball on Lovejoy. Can Ramsey throw on the run ? He’d better be able to ! Don’t forget, you are talking to a Wildcat that wears the same colors as you and plays football like you and is on the same mission as you and has athletes just like you and aren’t afraid just like you and has supporters just like you. Maybe you are looking at your very image and it frieghtens you. To know there is someone out there that looks like you, plays like you, thinks like you with talent like you scares you to death. Honestly for yall to beat us we will have to keep turning the ball over.Valdosta cashed in 28 points on 4 ints. Now do u really think we are going to throw u guys 4 ints in the first half like we did last week. Mobley who is our best QB thew 2 ints in the first Quarter and just like thet it was 14-0 and Mobley never makes those kind of mistakes and hats off to Valdosta because they did what they was supposed to do when u get a turnover, they cashed in on the short field position. So lets stop all this going to beat Colquitt stuff,i do expect Coffee to come to play but how long will this game be close remains to be seen.

VikingTillEye, nice sentiment about the Vikes, but I don’t see ‘em winning Friday, either, much as I’d like ‘em too. Palace or no, ESPN or no, Camden is as well coached as it gets in GA HS football, and that means consistent execution, consistent performance. I wouldn’t expect anything different Friday. LHS will need turnovers and to score from turnovers and Camden doesn’t turn the ball over. Ergo, Vikes lose – let’s say 28-14.

Sorry I’m just now showing up to take my medicine. Been a busy Monday. OK …
‘’did you forget the Carrollton/Sandy Creek game when you made this list?’’
I did. But it’s since added.
‘’@ Todd How many 8-0 teams in the recent past have not been ranked at any point this late in the season? Still undeafeated 8-0. Beat a 6-1 Washington Team (was once ranked 6) beat AAAAA Mays team that is now 5-3 and is competing for a playoff spot in a tough region.’’
Not many, but it happens. Carver, Chamblee and Walker are 8-0 but unranked. Class AAAA’s Top 10 rarely loses, so it’s hard to crack that nut. The Carver-Grady game will be big.
‘’How is the packers still in the top ten when they have three losses and lets be honest valdosta destroyed them only why they even attempted a come back is because we played safe we could of easy put 14 more points on the score board !!! just the truth !!! VHS’’
Doesn’t matter WHY Colquitt came back, IMO. No matter how you slice it, Colquitt could’ve tied w/ the 2-point conversion play at the end.
‘’I think I would have McEachern in there somewhere. They have won 6 straight since losing their first two games of the season to the two teams that played for the state championship last year.’’
Fair point. But McEachern hasn’t beaten a team that I see winning a round in the playoffs.
‘’Losing to weak Valdosta team should knock out Colquitt.’’
Why is Valdosta weak? Didn’t Valdosta lose to #4 Lowndes on the final play?
‘’Lovejoy lost to a 5-3 team? Lovejoy should be ranked lower, despite what its blogger says.’’
I’ll let sportsnut respond to that one. He’s learning what it’s like being me.

‘’When you say “Colquitt missed a conversion to tie in the final minute” a lot of people will think the kicker missed an an extra point.’’
You’re right, DB. I’m frequently guilty of calling a 2-point try simply a conversion. You rarely hear one-point conversion.
‘’The ajc refuse to drop Colquit County out of the top 10. They lost to unranked Valdosta and at 5-3 i just don’t think they are top 10. How can Carver 8-0 not be ranked, this is crazy! What about Grady. Who is ranking these teams?’’
We run a composite poll on Wednesdays that show five different rankings, one by the Associated Press (sportswriters of Georgia). None of those polls rank Carver or Chamblee. One of them (GPB) ranks Grady. Not saying those teams aren’t good, but it ain’t just us at the AJC.
‘’I do not care how tough the schedule is – if you do not win, you do not deserve to be ranked.’’
Yes, but you have to rank 10 teams, and there are not 10 undefeated teams. And Colquitt has won. They’ve beaten Lovejoy & Thomas Central.
‘’I agree with Colquit supporter it don’t matter how much you lose by the bottom line is win and losses.’’
Standings rank teams based on W-L record. Rankings attempt to tell you how good the teams are despite the W-L records. Would you really rank Walker of Marietta ahead of Colquitt County? Wins are what it’s about, but you can’t ignore schedule.
‘’ I usually understand the rankings but Todd, how does Grayson lose to Parkview (4 turnovers) and drop from 1 to out of the polls… Then go on to beat central 52-0 who turns around to BEAT parkview who only drops 3 spots. Not complaining but just would like to hear your reasons.’’
Falling from #1 out of the rankings is much more likely to happen early in the season. When it’s early, teams are ranked on reputation and expectation. Once they lose, their history is tossed in favor of the reality of what happened on the field. At that point, losing to Parkview – a unranked team that hadn’t won a playoff game in 7 years – was a bad loss. You can’t have a bad loss after only 3-4 weeks and still be ranked if you’re being judged on THIS season. But now, it’s later in the season, and lots of teams have flaws on their resume. We could easily banish Parkview and justify that, but then when you compare the seasons of all the teams, we see that Parkview has a 6-2 record vs. a schedule that features two top-five teams and they’re still in good position to win a pretty tough region. That’s sounds like Top 10 to me.
‘’ Chamblee. 8-0. Next up: Marist. (But I presume you all assume they will lose that game too since “we haven’t play anybody”) AJC will have their foot in their mouth all year when it comes to the undefeated Chamblee Bulldogs who were predicted to be 3-7 by this very website.’’
It wasn’t ‘this website’ that predicted Chamblee would be 3-7, but the Maxwell Ratings. And it was noted that it was based purely on scores and history. So rather than criticize that prediction, I believe the prediction should be used to demonstrate how unexpected and outstanding that Chamblee’s season is. Congrats to the Bulldogs. Looking forward to the Marist game.

VTE, about now coach mcpherson is thinking that CCHS has lost 8 fumbles this season (MaxPreps) while the Vikes have lost only one fumble. The Vikes, on the other hand, have thrown 4 interceptions while CCHS has thrown only one. For you math-impaired, that’s LHS – 5 turnovers this season, CCHS – 9 turnovers.. So my argument about CCHS being SO well coached (they really are) was a bit of ruse to…well, well, we won’t speculate on why…
LHS might win – might. Let’s see if the Vikes can get CCHS to turn the ball over more (net) and score. Otherwise, it might be another Valdosta-syle beat down for the Vikettes.

‘’Neither Colquitt or Stephenson should be ranked.’’
Surprised nobody criticized that sooner. It took the return of ENR to complain about Stephenson.
‘’HEARD CO BRAVES ARE STILL ,BUT ARE RANK IN 8TH PLACE LOOK LIKE WE GOING TO HAVE KNOCK OFF CALHOUN BEFORE SOMEBODY TAKE NOTICE’’’
You might be right. Schedule is rated 11th-weakest in AA, btw.
‘’Rush Propst been paying AJC to keep them ranked?’’
I wish.
‘’How is Thomson not #1 in AAA? Please check their strenght of schedule.’’
Yeah, Thomson’s schedule is ranked #1 toughest in AAA. You’ve got a good argument. Peach has beaten Warner Robins, though. So they aren’t exactly untested, either.

@ any CCHS Packer supporter……..has reality set in as of yet that the PACK may not make it to the playoffs? honestly I thought Propst had learned his lesson about DEFENSE, in this region & in this state. Guess not, oh well! But you do have to give him credit, once in the playoffs he continues to find a way to win to keep advancing. Attribute that to the defense that is played in region 1, because he USUALLY doesn’t see another tough one like those until the semi-final game.

I’ve called them the darkhouse team this year that could go on & win it all. they are playing good defense & have several explosive offensive weapons. i’m standing by my word, & think Norcross will be in the mix at the end of these playoffs. definitely a tough out for any team they face.

@ Your Highness74 == I an not saying Lovejoy is the mirror image of Camden. What I am saying is that you see us and you worry because you see the same thing, basically. I notice that you made a comment on the Lovejoy vs. Newton page. That goes to show that you are starting to pay attenetion. The games will speak for themselves. Don’t lose to Lowndes because if you do that would mean a date with us. I’m sure that is what you want. So exert your influence with the team and ask, no deplore them to take a dive so you can come to us and feel that you personally had a hand in eliminating us. Other than that, just wait.@ Realisticfan == I had the opportunity to meet with several bloggers last season at the Dome. I understand you did not want to introduce yourself as others did. You are O.K. here but not man enough to face your opposition. Other EP bloggers made their way to meet but I was told you would rather not. Now you are full of talk. The one 6A team that nobody should want to play in the playoffs are the McEachern Indians. Only losses are to Grayson and Walton to start the season ( and they were very much in both of those games to the end). Young team that is starting to peak at right time. They are extremely athletic on offense with multiple, multiple weapons and their defense is very physical and flys to the ball. They will be a tough out in the playoffs.

@Ed Pilcher – We are fairly sure there was another conspiracy involved with the Valdosta win. We know there was one with LHS with the binoculars but that the GHSA for whatever reason agreed with LHS. We are also certain that there was a conspiracy with North Gwinnett; however, we have not determined what it was. There is just no other reason why we could have lost to them.
Our theory with VHS does not involve binoculars. They were much more clever than LHS. Using a person outside the press box to relay signals to someone in the press box who relayed it to the sidelines who relayed it to the players seemed tough in a 5 second time period. We believe the our signals were purchased from LHS, TCC, NG, and Grayson. These were programmed by some 8th graders into a computer maintained in the press box and connected to an indivudal with a spy cameras in his eyeglasses. The signal for each play was captured electronically and sent to the computer which immediately showed a picture of the play. To reduce the amount of time necessary to relay the signal to the defense, each defensive player was wired with electrodes on different parts of their body. For example, a buzz on the right side meant pass, and a buzz on the left side meant run. (We are certain that during the game, we saw all defensive players on the field and the sidelines twitch in the same direction.) Other electrodes were also used to identify which player(s) the defense needed to center their efforts. Apparently this was a success since the Packers lost – it is the only reason they could have lost.
We further believe that other teams that lost to us used similar systems. Without such a system being used against us, we should have scored more points.
We also believe that if we lose to Coffee or Camden that similar play stealing systems will also have been used. If we lose to one or both of these teams, we will try to determine an excuse later.
You may have also noted that Probst was called for an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty during the game. We will also contest this with the GHSA. We believe that for every championship ring he has, he should be allowed two rants and raves on the field.
I trust that this will answer and explain any questions related to our current and future losses.
To VHS, LHS, TCC, NG, and Grayson – wish you continued success the rest of the year. You have some great coaches and players. Maybe we will meet some of you AAAAAA guys in the playoffs – assuming we get there but that may be another story:)

grayram…..Camden vs Coffee? Coffee didn’t come close to winning that game. The score was 32-6 at the half. Coffee came out in the 3rd quarter and dominated, partially because of conservative play calling by Camden’s Coaches and Coffee making half time adjustments. The final score was 39-12. Coffee scored 6 points in the second half, Camden scored 7. The game where Camden players didn’t have their heads in the game was last week against Brunswick. But let’s see what happens Friday night!

Now its Elementary’s time to speak. Yes, I am a Camden fan and I have been around their program since Coach Herron arrived. Some of the classic games since he arrived have been against Lowndes. I have also seen the Valdosta’s, Clarke Central’s, Parkview’s and Brookwood’s in their hey days. Never have I’ve seen a better prepared team and a program to match Camden’s over the years. A close second would be Lowndes. Similar programs, similar philosophies, just a pleasure to watch. The greatest drive in GA high school history was but a few years ago at Chris Gilman Stadium. Both my Cat fans and the Lowndes fans know what I am talking about. 7-3 and the Cats leading in 4th Q. Cats on about their own 10 yard line with 9: 40 seconds left. Pounding the ball down their throats with all runs, eating up every second of the clock, till they end up at the 1/2 yard line of Lowndes with a few seconds left. Camden probably could have pushed it in for a td, but the class coach Herron is, elected for time to run out. Nine minutes and 40 secs of sheer beauty to behold. Great game, great programs. We all look forward to this Friday’s high school ” game of the century. “

Blame it on the band, if those two players weren’t hurt they would have won. Okay after that jab I will have to agree with you that is the best drive I have ever seen in football on any level. @bksmith14 – Every team deals with injuries. That is part of making to the end of the season. That is one reason why everyone used to talk about R1. With only 4 region games, it was easier (not guaranteed) to avoid major injuries because so many of your non region games weren’t that tough. Again, I realize that players get hurt even while playing in so called easy games but not as often. Remember how you used to talk about tuning up to play some hard smash mouth football?

@CoffeeC100 … I was there too. You say Coffee outplayed Camden from 6 minutes left in the second quarter. I guess you are right. They ran for hundreds of yards. They threw at will and caught hundreds of passes. They came out in the second half and totally dominated Camden even to the point of clearing out the concession stands and selling all the merchandise. Yes they totally dominated every thing in Camden county to the point the city council decided to rename the interstate to Coffee County Trojan Highway. What you failed to remember was if that is true what you said you left out the part where the score was already 32-6 and through all your domination you managed yo score 6 points. So in thirty minutes of domination y’all scored an average of one point every five minutes. So speaking for everyone in Camden County I would like to thank y’all for allowing us to score the final 7 points in the game. And before you come back and average how many points Camden scored per minute just remember they had already scored the 32 so there was no need to score any more because although you guys ran the ball and had more plays you were never really a threat to score. Now that’s the harsh reality.

No wait – maybe I want Colquitt to beat Coffee, ’cause we have already beaten Colquitt. Then, uh,let me see…..we would be the #3, I mean, the #4…. No, that’s not right. Oh, heck, let’s just play the games and see what happens.

grayram……I was one of the fans complaining about them not playing all four quarters. Normally, Camden starters come out in the 3rd quarter, run a few plays, score, then the substitutions start. My suggestion was to let them play the full four quarters so they could get the feel of playing a full game together. Most times they shut it down in the second half as to not run up the score, to let the younger players get game experience and not risk injury to the starters. I understand that philosophy, but the Coffee game was the 7th game of the season and the starters had not be challenged all season. So I figured they needed to come out a little more focused. Even though they had already won the game.

@sportsnut
I’ll respond once to your comments in the hope it doesn’t deteriorate into a petty back and forth like it appears it has with others that exchange with you on here.
-I was attempting to poke fun at you and camden74 and the nicknames you had come up with for each other. You refer to him a “Your Highness74″ I believe and at one point I think he coined you simply, “The Nut”. Because of the lively banter between you two I was just having a little fun comparing it to some classic battles. I will bet that Camden74 took it with a chuckle and a nod, but you thought there was something much more deep routed. I assure you it was not intended to be mean spirited
-I was at the dome last year for all of the AA and AAAA games. I did look for folks in the very front parking lot prior to the AA game but didn’t see any gathering that seemed like a group of bloggers, not that I really know what that would look like.
. Other East bloggers may or may not know who I am but I’ve never been asked at a game if I’m blogger X on the AJC, so who knows.
-Lastly, after East was eliminated last year, I was here supporting their effort. At the end of last seasons finals I made my final post as “RealisticEPFan”, and explained I’d be changing my name to “RealisticFan”, and explained my reasons. (2 daughters, 1 an East Paulding graduate, 1 a North Paulding freshman.). I am still a faithful East fan, yet I now work nearly everyday through concessions to help support and build the North Paulding program. Yes they are heated rivals, but I love em both. And I also support all of the Paulding county schools.
My approach to blogging 98% of the time is realistic, but about 2% of the time I get a little froggy and excitable and will see one of my teams thru rose colored glasses.
Bottom line is that East has what will be its best chance to bring home a championship that it ever has. The talent level behind this class will keep them good for the next couple of years but folks from these parts know deep down that the winds of change are blowing toward North and Allatoona. This IS EAST’s time to shine if it ever is going to be. North on the other hand will be in the playoffs for the very first time and in its short 5 year varsity existence. The program is massive and is powered at the younger ages by what used to the core of the Acworth Warrior youth program, and that, to those that know youth football, should send shock waves through their minds. That Acworth Warrior program, has in the past fueled those going to North Cobb and Harrison.
North and Allatoona play this Friday, and if they can come up with some D it might just surprise Allatoona. I don’t thing it will happen this year but the future is extremely bright for North and I see them growing more and more of a dominate force in the coming years.

Camden74 — Yes, that drive in 2009 was a thing of beauty for football purists from all schools. But certainly no better or significant than in 99 at the Dome, when Northside led Lowndes 28 to 3 at half time in the semi’s. Lowndes drove length of the field, even used a 4th down hook and latter play for a drive saving 1st down, to defeat Northside 31-28. One of the prettiest plays in the series between Lowndes and Camden was a halfback pass from Demps to a young Greg Reid in Lowndes 10-0 victory over Camden in the 07 Semi’s.
I was at both games. I hope we can keep this year’s game respectably close, so as we get our players back by the 2nd playoff game – IF we make it past the first one – we will be in a better frame of mind to help ya’ll represent this region with class in the race for the trophy.
Our game with Northside in 08 was billed as the “Game of the Century” by the AJC. Our game with Camden Friday will be huge also. I expect the stands to be close to full by 7pm for the 8 o’clock game. Seats on the Visitor’s side will be first come first taken, except Lowndes fans are not allowed to sit between the 40’s. The Home side is sold out for the season with reserved seat tickets.
Camden fans are invited to walk over to the Lowndes side prior to entering the stadium (next to I-75) and partake in the tailgate parties. Lowndes fans are good and generous hosts! Everyone will have a good time.

I kind of had my doubts or worries that with the new coach would come changes that would not work but I see all went well. Your Highness74 and I have been like this for some time now. It is good to have a sparring partner. All the schools in 6A are primarily in South Georgia and Gwinnet Cobb and North Fulton. We are isolatd here in the middle. Not much chatter from Cobb or North Fulton but Region 1 and the guys from Gwinnett keep it lively. Much different from last season in 4A. There, everyone talked. Here, it is just those I mentioned. Lots of champions here. Some crowned, some not. Seem everyone should be undefeated and region champs as well as state champs. If you are an outsider or new comer, you don’t stand a chance. I’ve seen a lot of teams play in AAAAAA this season and I can honestly say that the playoffs are going to be really good this year. I like Lowndes, Grayson, Norcross and Lovejoy. All of these teams I’ve seen at least once, they have solid programs and are well coached. But the best team in the state has to be Camden. I really don’t have a favorite team I just love highschool football so my opinions are based mostly on what Ive seen and facts.
How do you defend Camden? LOL, thats a question that remains to be seen. This year is the first time in the 12 years of following this team that they have one of the best QB’s in the state. So if you pack the box with linebackers and they go spread how will you handle that. Remember #12 has close to 30 passing touchdowns this year and they still run the ball 80% of the time in that wing tee offense. Speed kills, what are they feeding those young guys in South Ga, they have at least 4 or 5 backs with similar speed and talent so if you key on just #5 you may be in for a long day.
Lowndes Co, what more can I say. Their Defense is really solid which will keep them in almost any game against anybody. They also have some very talented backs to go with that wing tee offense.
Grayson is loaded with talent and really focused because of the early season lose.
Norcross is very scary because they also have loads of talent on both sides of the ball.

Land still wears a “boot” to support his ankle. Burgman is off the crutches but is walking with a noticeable limp. Both are improving. Teenagers heal amazingly fast. But if either enters Friday’s game, neither can possibly be at 100%. Doctors and the two guys may say by Friday that they can play, but the coaches will have the final say if they play or not. Even Burgman and Lang, as good as they are, can not compete against the likes of Camden if not 100%. Well, maybe 85 or 90%!!!!!!!!
They ARE pretty good players! We will certainly need them in the playoffs.

When I mentioned Veterans High becoming the elite High School in Houston County, I was referring to all sports. Veteran is closing in on becoming the leading school. The new and best housing developments are moving in that direction. The HS looks like a small College. East Paulding is experiencing the same thing as more people move into the North Paulding area. NSWR ans Warner Robins teams will eventually feel the swing. I may not be in 3-years but it’s coming. All have better pray some new developments go up on the Northside of town. It’s just a matter of time before Quail Run, Carterwood’s, etc. go back to Houston Cty HS.

@OMacG Of course you know this is not the same team. This team has been tested and Camden simply has not been. Lowndes just has the better athletes. They’re bigger stronger AND faster. You’ll see come Friday night!
Tested really? and Camden has not? Really? Who has Lowndes been challenged against? In fact Lowndes and Camden have both played the same schedule.
In alike opponents
Camden 42 Valdosta 6 Lowndes 17 Valdosta 14
Camden 39 Coffee 12 Lowndes 31 Coffee 29
Camden 47 Tift 0 Lowndes 42 Tift 7
Camden 48 Brunswick 8 Lowndes 52 Brunswick 8
Based on these games Camden games were not close against 2 possible region 1 playoff teams while Lowndes won, but not impressively.
Camden 301 yds rushing per game 118 yds passing 420 yds a game 46 points a game
Lowndes 270 yds rushing per game 63 yds passing 333 yds a game 37 points a game
Based on the same level of competition. *Camden has not played Colquitt.
Lowndes has a tall order friday night. Are they talented enough to get it done? Yes. If they had some sort of passing game, it would certainly make things somewhat different. As far as speed and strength, I think that Camden has the horses to match Lowndes on the edges. The difference may be the passing of Camden and the kicking game. If you can’t return the kickoff it makes for a longer field. Friday is two days away, but this will be a good game.
