Poll Talk: Blockbuster Friday is coming this week; meanwhile, how is Colquitt County still ranked?

There are eight region games between ranked teams this week, the most of the season so far. That doesn’t include No. 2 Marist at unranked Chamblee in Class AAAA. Both are 8-0.

The games between ranked teams are:

-No. 1 Camden County vs. No. 4 Lowndes (AAAAAA)
-No. 1 Northside-Warner Robins vs. No. 7 Warner Robins (AAAAA)
-No. 2 M.L. King vs. No. 5 Tucker (AAAAA)
-No. 1 Sandy Creek vs. No. 4 Carrollton (AAAA)
-No. 1 Peach County vs. No. 4 Carver Columbus (AAA)
-No. 7 Blessed Trinity vs. No. 9 St. Pius (AAA)
-No. 5 Lincoln County vs. No. 9 Wilkinson County (A)
-No. 7 Wilcox County vs. No. 8 Irwin County (A)

In rankings news, seven ranked teams lost Friday, and none fell out of the Top 10. Most conspicuous among those will be Colquitt County (5-3).

The seven ranked teams that lost are West Forsyth, Parkview, Colquitt, Stephenson, Washington County, St. Pius, Cook.

Only the three AAAAAA teams (West Forsyth, Parkview, Colquitt) lost to unranked teams.

So, how does a three-loss team stay in the Top 10, not dropping a spot after a loss?

Ranking Class AAAAAA is pretty tricky right now. Colquitt has played the toughest schedule in the state and lost three games by three points or less. The Valdosta-Colquitt seemed like a blowout, but Colquitt missed a conversion to tie in the final minute.

Let’s assume everyone agrees on the top six (not the order, just the teams). Let’s look at No. 7-14. They’re listed with their most significant wins and losses -

Lovejoy (8-1) – W-Alpharetta; L-#10 Colquitt County.
West Forsyth (7-1) – W-Johns Creek, Gainesville; L-Chattahoochee
Parkview (6-2) – W-#5 Grayson, Brookwood, L- #3 Norcross, Central Gwinnett
Colquitt County (5-3) – W-#7 Lovejoy, Thomas Central, Carver; L-#4 Lowndes, #6 North Gwinnett, Valdosta
Valdosta (5-3) – W-#10 Colquitt County, L-#1 Camden County, #4 Lowndes, Brooks County
Walton (6-2) – W-McEachern, Brookwood; L-#2 Lassiter, North Cobb
McEachern (6-2) – W-North Cobb, South Cobb; L-#5 Grayson, Walton
Johns Creek (7-1) – W-Lambert; L-West Forsyth

How would you rank them?

@ Norcross (all day)

When did you see Camden play this year? We are not perfect by any stretch of the imagination. I am sure Norcross and Grayson have great teams. Why would you be making negative statements about our Camden Wildcats? If you have the time, go back 10 years and see how many region 1 SOUTH GEORGIA teams have won the state championship. Best of luck to your team. Teams that have been there and done that do not make the statements you make. How many STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS has your team won. Camden will work hard and hope that we will get better each week.

@ camdenfan2013 dude you sound retarded! Your saying country region 1 will beat reagion 7 who has prolly the toughest teams in the Gwinnett area

You are right, in the Gwinnett area, not the state. These are your words my friend. With the exception of this year, Norcross has not been a topic of conversation.

When Warner Robins and Northside-WR play, ranking means nothing. These boys know eack other and play together on summer teams. Most are related—————–the schools are only two miles apart. The first 30 years of football favored WR-Demons, the last 20 NS. The scores between the two are generally close.

@Todd — Marist is not 8-0. Chamblee wins the game easily.

“That doesn’t include No. 2 Marist at unranked Chamblee in Class AAAA. Both are 8-0.”

It has gotten to the point where I don’t have to say much to have Lovejoy criticized. The words “slowly but surely” apparently upsets someone. Just as you state that we are no longer in AAAA, so it stands to reason that we are here with you. New kid in town. Back in my day, we called fans and people like Your Highness74, that talk so much about themselves to be selling “Wolf Tickets”. What they don’t know is that we will buy your tickets and take your cookie. I told you, the name does not scare us. Be it A – AAAAAA. Football is football. You must be getting worried. You do know there will be a couple of upsets in the first round, don’t you ? Do not be one ! Some 3 and 4 seeds are coming to play. Beware !

Neither Colquitt or Stephenson should be ranked…….Stephenson’s pass defense alone should tell you guys that this isn’t a top 10 team….49 points given up to any team warrants an immediate boot from top 10 consideration …Colquitt has losses to top 10 teams , but you also have to look at their performaces in these losses. I didn’t see the Valdosta game . The NG and Lowndes losses were ugly , neither Lowndes or NG are by no means “Great” this year…Lowndes should have put up 40 plus, this Packer team is out of sync and most likely will stay out of sync….Makes you wonder what in the hell they were doing all summer…..Camden will be the final nail in the coffin for the 2012 Hawgs.

Camden – #1 in AAAAAA
Lowndes – #4 in AAAAAA
Burke – #3 in AAAA

The Trojans get their shot at Colquitt this weekend and Your Cats in two weeks.

Coffee has also handed two AAAAA teams their only losses. Ware and Whitewater.

People can say what they want about region 1 teams. We are beating up on each other now but we’ll join forces against the rest of the state come playoff time.

GO COFFEE!!

Fans, you are now beginning to see how manipulated the staff of the AJC is. Colquitt County is going to be ranked because their overhyped coach (who’s record in Georgia is laughable for guy who thinks he is so special) has Todd, Chip and the AJC in his back pocket. Remember when Grayson lost? They were out of the polls. Parkview loses and barely moves.

By the way, the top teams in the state are still the top teams in the state (Camden County & Northside-Warner Robins). Northside violated 4th ranked Flowery Branch at Flowery Branch 48-7. What do you think is going to happen to Warner Robins. I will give 7th ranked Warner Robins the rivalry bump of 17 points and call it like this:

Warner Robins 14
Northside – WR 42

Warner Robins will have losses to nationally ranked Northside-Warner Robins and top ranked Peach County. In the meantime, these overhyped and grossly overrated middle tier programs like Colquitt County & Valdosta continue to get respect. It is getting funny.

So I’ll give Lowndes the clear advantage in the game vs. Camden. One reason is because it’s in the Concrete Palace. Another reason is because Lowndes will be looking to prove something against the supposed number one team in the state.

Camden 7 Lowndes 28

You heard it here first!

All I know is I’d rather lose to Lowndes now than a Gwinnett, Dekalb or Cobb School in the playoffs. Get your lumps early and improve on them for later on is what I say

Colquitt lost again? Well, Valdosta must have been cheating. That’s the only way a Rush Propst-coached team ever gets beat….Well, cheating or bad officiating. They never really ‘lose’ to a team that’s just better, or anything like that. If you don’t believe it, just ask him.

@VikingTillEye- just last year I saw a team come into the Palace and win against a highly motivated Lowndes team bent on getting revenge (grin). No doubt Martin is a tough place for most teams to come into and play…but it doesn’t phase a program like Camden County. This game Friday between two great programs is gonna come down to simply who makes the plays when rare opportunities arise…but if I’s betting the farm, I’d go with the team that has the better passing game.

Carver Panthers are 8-0 and still are not ranked in the top 10…why? Once we beat Grady HS this weekend, we need to be ranked!

AJC will not rank Colquitt after this Friday. Coffee will take care of that…Rush Propst been paying AJC to keep them ranked?

@OMacG Of course you know this is not the same team. This team has been tested and Camden simply has not been. Lowndes just has the better athletes. They’re bigger stronger AND faster. You’ll see come Friday night!

@Reeze that comment could be taken out of content. MLK over the last 3 years have put up 40+ on alot schools! If MLK was to play your team they might do the same…….

@VikingTillEye: Are you nuts? The Vikings and Camden have played the same people this year. As far as not being tested, they have both played a deceptively good Valdosta team, and although both won, Camden won most decisively while someone sold their soul to the devil near the end of the 4th quarter for Lowndes to get that victory.

Camden Fan you are correct. I would rather loose now than in Nov – Dec. I am a Lowndes fan and I, for one cannot wait till Friday. It’s gonna be one hella of a game. The team that makes the least amount of mistakes will win, or he who has the ball last. It’s going to be a close one.

@ Your Highness74 == Don’t be afraid. It’s only football ! Once again, you open your mouth and the superiority complex shows itself. There had to be a beginning. At some point, someone told Camden the same things you are telling me. Did that stop Camden froim trying ? You are sadly mistaken if you think people listen to such talk. Lovejoy will play with you, period. Remember, when things get close and there are only a few left, that is when all three phases of the game must be played at a high level Passing game is a must. Running game is a must. Special teams must do their jobs. I told you, you won;t get 291 yards running the ball on Lovejoy. Can Ramsey throw on the run ? He’d better be able to ! Don’t forget, you are talking to a Wildcat that wears the same colors as you and plays football like you and is on the same mission as you and has athletes just like you and aren’t afraid just like you and has supporters just like you. Maybe you are looking at your very image and it frieghtens you. To know there is someone out there that looks like you, plays like you, thinks like you with talent like you scares you to death. The truth is that this is real. This is no dream. Stop pinching yourself. If both teams take care of their business, we will come face to face in mid-December

@Reeze “this Packer team is out of sync and most likely will stay out of sync….” Its been like waiting for a car wreck you know is gonna happen. We might take Coffee but its touch and go since we’re so inconsistent this year. This is not the 2010 or 2011 team..not even close.

Columbia blue: if you are talking about the highest classification, how many region 1 teams have won state in the last ten years?
The answer is 1. Lowndes
3 teams from reg 8 have won it.

@Grayram actually Camden is a Region 1 team. They’ve won 3. From 2003 to 2009 Camden and Lowndes basically traded the trophy

@Grayram you’re correct. If you take a look at Columbia Blue’s statement “If you have the time, go back 10 years and see how many region 1 SOUTH GEORGIA teams have won the state championship” I interpret that as current….which is what he meant. The current region 1 teams. So that’s Lowndes and Camden

You might as well add to that the year where Camden played Valdosta (2003) where not only was the champion a south Georgia team, but also the runner up.
