M.L. King, Tucker emerge in 6-AAAAA; Warner Robins, Northside tune up for showdown

Here are five of the big stories from Week 10 in Class AAAAA:

*Region 6-AAAAA title picture a little clearer: M.L. King (8-0, 7-0) and Tucker (7-1, 6-1) moved to the top of the crowded field in the 6-AAAAA championship chase with victories on Friday against Stephenson and Miller Grove, respectively, and set up a huge matchup for next weekend when the Lions and Tigers meet at Hallford Stadium. A victory would give M.L. King the region title. Tucker will win the region if it beats M.L. King and then Mays the following weekend. Both should reach the playoffs. Miller Grove, Stephenson, Mays and Southwest DeKalb all have two or three region losses and will fight for the other two playoff spots.

*It’s rivalry week in Warner Robins: Northside and Warner Robins improved to 5-0 in 2-AAAAA on Friday to set up next week’s showdown that will determine the Region 2-AAAAA champion. Northside recorded its second consecutive shutout and fourth overall in beating Greenbrier 35-0. Warner Robins scored three fourth-quarter touchdowns to beat Grovetown 35-14. Warner Robins leads the city rivalry 33-21, but Northside has won nine of the past 11.

*First victory for Cambridge: The first-year school in Milton collected the first victory in the program’s brief history when the Bears beat North Springs 45-13. Cambridge had been outscored by an average of 44-9 during its 1-7 start. It was the 31st consecutive loss for North Springs, which hasn’t won a game since a 39-6 loss to Stone Mountain on Oct. 16, 2009 was overturned by forfeit.

*First victory for Winder-Barrow in a very long time: The Bulldoggs snapped what had been the longest active losing streak of any Class AAAAA team – 31 games – when they beat Cedar Shoals 31-21. Winder-Barrow had not won since beating Monroe Area 48-41 on Oct. 9, 2009. “It’s been a long time coming,” Winder-Barrow’s Soloman Sims told the Barrow Journal. “Needless to say, a victory feels really good.”

*Subregion title still up in the air: Union Grove took sole possession of first place in 4-AAAAA Division A with a 35-13 victory over Mundy’s Mill, but the Wolverines need to beat Drew next week to secure the subregion title. Drew will win the title if it beats Union Grove and Mundy’s Mill loses to Ola. Victories by Drew and Mundy’s Mill would create a three-way tie for first place.

Listen all Tucker fans, you never played the caliber of teams like Stephenson & MLK; SWD has been declining since the Quincy carter days; only Marist was your biggest game. You’ve alreadfy lost to Stephenson and Friday will be your second lost to MLK and it wont be pretty. Feel the raft Tucker fans because for now on you will be fighting for the #2 or #3 spot in the region why? Because Stephenson or MLK will be the region champs yearly! “YOU HEARD ME”, BELIEVE THAT kittty cats (meow) because you are now playing with Lions & Jaguars (groooowlll)

Okay Uncle J.

We just have to agree to disagree.

@JAB

After you take a whoopin from MLK now you guys are best friends now? Where they do that at? Ohh Stephensons !!!

Please STOP with the “IF” storys

If “if’s” and “but’s” were candy and nut’s we’d all have a Merry Christmas…

So MLK didn’t go the DOME and the same coaching staff is there minus the HC… Looking for more of the same in the future.

You guys laid an egg agaisnt Miller Grove and then folded like a cheap lawn chair against MLK !!! You guys usually wait until the playoffs to do that! If y’all not careful you might lose to Mays.

And remember I said that !!!

I am a little confused about MLK QB Dawson’s height. GPB said he was 6′4″. Can a MLK blogger tell me the facts. If he is that tall he will still be in demand.

Listen up Region 6 and 5A fans, the ONLY reason JAB is lining himself with MLK is the concern of possibly being #3 in the region. If the stars had lined up and Stephenson would come out as #1 or #2, Jags beaten MLK, he wouldn’t be in the Lion den. Well Santa Clause didn’t come on Oct 26th for the Jaguars and worry sits in, as he knows Nov 4th, sends his Jaguars on the road. He might want to turn his concentration on the Raiders of Mays, very difficult team to beat at Lakewood…lose that game and it’s a battle for Stephenson to make the playoffs…That Miller Grove game looms in the background…You do remember that game JAB? (LOL)

You 5A guys are funny this year……it is fun watching (reading) your blog. I actually wish they would allow Valdosta to compete at this level, with only 1700-1800 students this where they need to be.

On the point about the MLK QB J Dawson, I saw him in person and that kid has the full range of skills. He is a victim of a much deeper and complex system of indifference towards young African American men seeking to play the QB position….and that is not a race card, either.

Last point, whenever I follow HS teams with a large amount of black kids, I always focus on the kicking game and how that seems to hurt them in the playoffs.

I’m dying to hear more of what your beliefs are on this subject. I’m not accusing you of playing the race card……however I sense you think race is part of the issue that persist around this subject. I’ve got some pretty strong thoughts on the subject also, so hoping to engage in a good dialog here.

@Dekalbs Finest. dont know who will win but Mays is for real and their strength is the passing game and solid defense. MLK barely beat them. They can exploit Stephensens secondary because their quarterback is better than Miller Groves. I hope Stephensen realizes they will be in for a fight. I think only MLKs quarterback is passing better right now among teams in our region.

Let me bring in a point on JAB bandwaggoning. Since he likes to use “Ifs”. If Mays beats Stephenson, then next week he’ll be sniffing around the Tiger den, (Rah…Rah…Rah – Tigers & Jaguars together run this show), for Tucker to beat Mays, just so Stephenson can have more than 10, oh, my badd 9 games. (LOL) Remember the TIGER DEN is only for BIG Tiger cats…little Jag cubs aren’t ALLOWED. YOUR TURN JAB… (LOL)

@titletown USA – If Valdosta could join us in 5A, then hopefully the Wildcats will be placed in the same region as NSWR & WR, because that is truly a two horse region. These two programs stay highly ranked all season long, while we in region 6 knock each other off WEEKLY. Region 6 is beating on our tough regular season schedule, will gain BENEFITS in the post season.

I think the ‘75 Northside-Robins game was the best one that I ever attended. It had been several years since Northside had beaten the Demons.

I’m with you there brother! I was in the band that year, we beat them 20-18, will never forget that game and the execitement that went with it! That was the first year we were ranked #1 in the state, and even now I get some measure of satisfaction in seeing Macon Central get its butt beat LOL…

I hope that our Eagle fans (with the exception of ENR – I LOOOOOOOVE to hear him talk, he’s damned funny) accept victory or defeat with grace, as big as our rivalry is, I want Warner Robins, HOCO, Veterans, Perry and Peach County to kick ass against the rest of the state – show them what Middle Georgia football is all about!

It’s GREAT to be a Northside Eagle! Go Blue, and a shout out to the Bluewind band!

MLK last qb Jonquel Dawson was 5′8 at the most. That’s why he didn’t get the offers that a 6′4″ guy would get.. He is the all time leading passer in Dekalb and #2 in state history… Says alot about his ability despite his size. the qb they have now isn’t much bigger 5′9 I think and he is playing just as good. He is one of the top passers in the county and that’s a testament to the offense that he is in..
Tiger4life you sound like a bitter old man, lol. MLK doesn’t just throw the ball up and hope a receiver makes a play. They are timing based, precision perfect passing.. ask anyone that has played them the past 3 years. Tucker better get prepared to cover all night because they won’t be able to blitz like they want to

@LionKing, @Mr.Johnson, @Jab, first thing I need to do is give all of you a spell checker program for Christmas. Now down to business.

Don’t think for one minute that we have forgotten how to play football over here just because we lost that “1″ game to Stephenson. There were some circumstances that led us to the dissmal offensive performances that we displayed on that night. Rest assured that those issues have been addressed and things will be different.

When we show up on Friday night you will see a different team. I mean that literally and figuratively. You are about to know the fear that’s in the mind of a TIGERS prey when they are being stalked in the tall grass.

Shhhhhhhh, we walk so softly that you don’t hear us approaching, our sights are firmly fixed on something in the distance. What could it be? It looks like a gimpy lion. Quiet! He don’t even see us coming. As we get closer I can hear the Lions heart pounding louder, and LOUDER! Steady now, don’t ever break a blade of grass as we position ourselves for the attack. We are closer now and I can see the lions eyes… steady…. steady…. then there’s complete silence. It’s Friday night and the lights come on, immediately the TIGERS pounce on the LIONS with swiftness and agility, the hunt is on! IT’s over… the TIGERS have subdued the Lions and the game is over! Tucker tigers 27, MLK Lions 17. We move on to next weeks feast when we prepare for some Raider meat!

That’s how it is going down on Friday night. If Jab is not careful we could circle back for some Jaguar meat as well. Remember, you didn’t completely knock us out, you left plenty of life in these Tigers. We are mended and ready to attack!!!

Have a great game everybody, Halford is going to be rocking on Friday night! I’ll see you on the 50 yard line!

http://www.hudl.com/team/16855/highlights/13154818

When the ball is released pause and see who’s open and who he throws the ball to. He eyes down who he’s throwing from the snap until his release. And watch the amazing catches that Tibbs and Bray come down with. Turning 5 yard hitch routes to 60 yard touchdowns, that’s not the QB, that’s the WR making plays.

Also Tucker played the #1 passer in Dekalb and shut him down already and we will do the same to the #2 passer. We have played MLK in preseason and passing league. Trust that we are ready.

And I can see you guys haven’t been sleeping well posting at 4 in the morning, having nightmares about the MIGHTY TUCKER TIGERS. It’s okay, it will all be over soon ;-)

Thats neat to hear that you were in the band. I was a sophomore that year, and I also remember having Weatherford for a class. I don’t remember anything negative about her. I walked to school back then and remember being concerned about getting “egged” by Demons.

I saw The Who a month after that game. What a show. Pete Townshend is the man or was the man.

Forgive me for doing this fellow bloggers but I was floored when I stumbled back to a early October blog to find that my name and son was being smeared by @TUCKERPops.

@TuckerPops, if you are listening I want you to know that you are an idiot! Take the Tucker out of your blog name and come up with something else. I don’t defend everything that is said against Tucker and I am very honest in every post that I have made. You are misguided and a loon!

Lastly, you don’t know me or my son so don’t speak to me as if you do! My son was never benched by coach Stephens. As a matter of fact my son was a personal favorite of coach Stephens. The only problem that coach Stephens has with my son was that he was only a 10th grader last year and he wanted to get his senior players on the field. However, that didn’t detour him from starting my son in multiple games.

Now crawl back into that hole you came out of and leave the Tucker Nation alone!
