Volleyball: Walker wins area championship

Class A No. 1 Walker won the Area 3-A title Thursday in straight sets over North Cobb Christian 25-17, 25-18, 25-18. Senior Paige Warner led the Wolverines with 17 kills. Walker will host Area 3, No. 4 seed Strong Rock Christian in the first round of the state playoffs. … Norcross defeated Rockdale 25-22, 26-24, 25-16 to win the Area 8-AAAAAA championship Saturday. Sydney Marshall led the Blue Devils with 16 kills while Sammie Baker had 28 assists. Abby Bradford had two aces, which gives her 100 for her career. … Class AAA No. 1 Blessed Trinity won the Area 5-AAA championship after defeating No. 5 St. Pius in three games, 25-21, 25-19, 25-20. The Titans host North Oconee in the first round of the state playoffs while St. Pius will host Morgan County. … Class AAA No. 2 Woodward Academy won the Area 2-AAA title with a 3-0 win over Haralson County. The War Eagles host Johnson-Savannah Wednesday in the first round of the state tournament.
