The Stephenson-Tucker game used to be called the greatest rivalry never played in DeKalb County.
Stephenson and Tucker – each with seven region titles since 2001 – finally played each other last week. Stephenson got the win 13-7, ending Tucker’s 20-game winning streak.
But M.L. King – which has beaten Stephenson the past two seasons – remains the highest-ranked DeKalb team at No. 3.
There were few upsets last week or changes in this week’s rankings. Newly ranked this week are Cairo for Washington in AAAA, Jefferson for Benedictine in AA and Wilcox County and Irwin County for Calvary Day and Clinch County in A.
The only game this week between ranked teams is No. 9 North Oconee at No. 10 Elbert County in Region 8-AAA, but several critical regions games are on the schedule.
Here are some of them -

@ TODD & STC …. Guys, I do appreciate your coverage of high school football, but I can come up with a better … & more accurate Top 10 in Class A football. Are these Top10’s just Todd’s or is this a panel of writers ( AJC & around the state )? I understand that there is still a lot of “opinion” in these polls, but we’re getting late in the season and some of these teams are getting no love for their body of work … ( LINCOLN CO ). They win 49-6 and drop two spots in the poll, then they beat the #2 team ( accroding to the AJC ) and only move up two spots? They are better than your #2 team this week for sure. Who has ECI beat? …. they have gone from #6 to #4 to #2 this week. George Walton didn’t play Friday night & they drop 3 spots …. from #5 to #8 …. WHAT? Prince Ave goes from #8 to #4 for beating Commerce? Even though they are 4-2 … Sav Christian is for real, at least they are proving it on the field. They beat #3 in the state & move two spots?
I’ll do my own SWAMP LIZARD TOP 10 in our Class A blogs later on ( maybe tomorrow ). On a serious note, the Maxwell Ratings are starting to take shape on the best teams … at least in Class A.
OK … I’ve beat up on you enough! You did good bringing in Wilcox Co ( #9 ) & Irwin Co ( #10 ).
Thanks Guys !!

The only way Lovett is legit @ 10 is when they beat GAC, so this is what you are selling eh? If so you may as well rank them above them. 4 losses ?

@bill…….wait untill the second half of the season if they make it that far……the playoffs will separate the contenders and the pretenders….hard to do that with 30 players and they only use 12-15 of them the entire game IRWIN SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!and their whole coaching staff!!!!

I believe Valdosta, which has a better running game, will defeat Colquitt. The game will be a “home” game for Valdosta in a couple of weeks. I also believe Colquitt will give Camden all it can handle in Moultrie on Nov 9th. Colquitt may well pull the upset, although my common sense says they won’t. I have no predictions for the Nov 2, Camden vs Lowndes game to be played at Lowndes High’s Martin Stadium, aka the Concrete Palace. Camden should win, could win, and might win. BUT!!!!!!!! I’ll let our friend bksmith14 do the predicting with that one!
This week Coffee comes to Lowndes, and for us that is the most important game on our schedule. I sincerely hope the young man from Coffee who was injured last Friday recovers and plays again. If anyone has an update on his condition please give it to us.
Valdosta travels to Tift. Sorry Tift but Leonards Losers, Tift. Colquitt travels to Brunswick. Remebert what I said previously about our region being strong from top to Brunswick? Leonard’s loser, Brunswick. Camden gives the region a much needed rest this week.

@ TCDOG25 ….. I hear ya Man !! I still think ECI is overrated at #2 …. I still think Lincoln Co would beat ECI …. I still think your biggest win is over Claxton …. & I still don’t think ECI will be tested again until you play Sav Christian in the Region 3 play-in game. As I’ve said, I still think you’ll be 8-1 going into that game. I think Region 3 has three good teams ( Sav Christian, Calvary Day, & ECI ) but I don’t think anyone knows just how good they are …. Sav Christian has proved more.
It’s so hard to get a read on a team ( or Region ) that doesn’t play at least two or three “quality” teams without seeing for yourself … & I haven’t made it down there to see with my own eyes. That’s just my take on the whole thing … & as I’ve said, I’ll be here to take it like a big boy if you ( ECI ) can give it back to me. Wish you & ECI the best … I really have no hard feelings.

How does Benedictine drop from the rankings after a quality win? Not only do they drop but they go from #9 to NR while the #10 team stays the same.

Tucker is overrated. Only 1 win against a team with a winning record, and that team (Cedar Grove) padded its record with wins over losing teams. Tucker is down this year.

I know MLK was ranked ahead of Stephenson, but considering Stephenson beat the No.2 and MLK struggled with winless Dunwoody, I thought for sure Stephenson will leap frog them, but doesnt matter since they all play each other and it will be sort it out on the field.
I also agree with CarverPanther1, seems like Carver or more ideally Chamblee should be ranked ahead of a 4-2 Cairo team.

This has to be a joke. Chamblee is 6-0 and beat a Columbia team 34-0 ON THEIR HOMECOMING. (27-0 at halftime) and Marist struggles to beat them and wins 16-0 an Chamblee STILL isn’t ranked?! Washington has yet to play a quality team and barely beat South Atlanta by 5 and Chamblee beat them by 22. Goodness gracious, the team is unbeaten and has played a few quality teams. They have proven to be one of the most underrated teams in the star and have made a complete turn around with outstanding coaches and several D1 players. It amazes me how people continue to sleep on this team.

No region championships for Mill Creek. Losses to Norcross and North. Playoff brackets look favorable though. Much tougher road for region 7 #1 and #2 seeds.
Camden is strong favorite to win championship. Brice Ramsey is the difference maker.

Comparing scores is dumb — Chamblee beat Redan by 14 and then Redan gets crushed by Stone Mouuntain, but nobody thinks Stone Mountain is better than Chamblee. Bulldogs should be 8-0 with their weak schedule when they play Marist, and then we’ll how good they are.

You seem to have insight into the coach @ irwin. Such hostility you have. Pour quoi? Maybe it some more of that camden love. Haha… As a AAAAAA person why do you feel like your class A opinion really matters to us. furthermore what dawg do you have in this fight, with the exception of some worthless relationship with the head coach. Please, allow us to bask in our glory of being the #10 ranked team of class A. It is so important. Not….Certainly not as important as being #1 in AAAAAA. The poll is meaningless anyways. They only mean something in the BCS. Tell me how that has worked out. That’s why we have the playoffs. I think you need to listen to ole willy bil

Mamma always said,”if you can’t say something nice, don’t say nothin at all”, but someone else used to say that an opinion is like……you know how that one goes because in the words of mamma” it takes one to know one”. The talk here is more proof of how deep the state of Georgia is AT ALL levels. Camden is the most complete team in the state pound for pound. As an Atlanta resident I’ve made the drive to Kingsland to see them in person this season in addition to them playing in the Dome, yes they are solid but anybody can be beat on any given night and Camden knows that (ask them about that 2pt conversion vs Colquitt last season). This maybe the best Camden team since Herron took over but w/o a title is doesn’t mean anything since they have 3 already in the past 10 or so years.
ML King is pound for pound better than Stephenson. The difference this season for ML King is they can control the ball more with a solid rushing game that features speed and power with a combo of four backs and can still air it out with the best in the state. Yes they had a sluggish first half against Dunwoody (a game that everyone happen to see so that is what is sticking in peoples mind).
Chamblee will get their due they are still on the clock with many people including myself, we just have to see more. They’ll get tested against Marist and then in their region play-in game. 4A is loaded and all ranked are deserving of their rankings, this week.
McEachern and North Cobb will both prove their worth this week in what should be an outstanding game with plenty of athletes on the both teams that can score quicker than a hiccup. North Gwinnett is laying in the woods again, don’t forget about them or Lovejoy (despite “weak” region). Lovejoy will be another team where the playoffs will be the proof in the pudding for them esp playing in a new class but they have the talent, coaching, focus and they are back healthy on the defensive side of the ball.
I’ll end it the way I started it, Georgia is stacked so please enjoy it at all levels, go out to the games, watch the games online and support the schools, players, coaches and programs because there is outstanding football in this state.

@ HSFB Follower == Thanks for the props but we are an after thought. It is the same fight for respect as it was last year. Same conversation, “weak region, you haven’t played anybody, your season ends in the first round.” We heard it all. Now, because we are in 6A, we are questioned, again. We are going to have to wait and let it come to light so all can see. We present something many top teams don’t have. We have a complete team. All three phases of the game are played and played well. We present match-up problems for many. Run, throw, it does not matter. What ever is called for at that time. Wait and see.

Hey, Todd, how is it that George Walton (5-1), with a bye week, FALLS three spots??? I don’t have much of an argument with Lincoln County or Aquinas being ahead, but GWA’s only blemish is a 28-21 OT loss to Aquinas. Don’t see how a 4-2 Savannah Christian, which has struggled in its last two wins, ranks ahead of a 5-1 team which has won its last four games by an average 40 – 9.5 margin…….Got no Dog in the Bulldogs’ fight, mind you, just sayin’…..

ROME in “THE BONEYARD” this week in another good game for EAST!!! EAST had a “wake-up call” Friday night at HIRAM…while winning 56 / 30 EAST played sluggish, sloppy, whatever you want to call it but they didn’t play up to the level EAST “D” normally does!
EAST gave the ball to HIRAM twice thru turnovers and missed opportunities of 3rd downs resulting in having to give the ball back to HIRAM’s offense. You can’t do this with ANY team much less one with players like HIRAM has and the result showed as HIRAM took advantage of these and scored 30 points on an EAST “D” that was averaging only 3.4 pts per game coming in!!!
ROME is hard to figure…they opened win a nice win against SOUTH PAULDING 34 / 15 and then beat HIRAM 21 / 0 in week two, then lost to ALLATOONA the next week 39 / 17. They then score 69 points to beat NEW MANCHESTER BUT allow them to score 35 points ?!?!?! The next week they show up strong in beating PAULDING COUNTY 49 / 7 but follow that up last week at NORTH PAULDING winning a “barn burner” 57 / 56 in OT!!
This weeks game will show if EAST is ready to take the REGION 5 AAAAA title…beat ROME and EAST goes to 7 / 0 with games left against SOUTH PAULDING, & LITHIA SPRINGS before the playoff game BEFORE the playoffs on NOV. 9th in “THE BONEYARD” with ALLATOONA!!

The Monroe Area vs. Stephens County game was a great game.Stephens played its heart out but the speed won out in the end.It puts so much pressure on your defense that eventually it breaks out,Monroe Area’s QB Stanton Truitt is a game changer,he has the sprinters speed with the quick moves that makes it almost impossible to tackle him in the open field. Then you throw in all the other speedsters and it is too much….(you can’t beat what you can’t catch)GO CANES

Carver can only beat the teams that are on the schedule. High school scheduling is what it is, you can really know who will be good from year to year. They did beat a pretty good 5A team in Mays.
True, they havent beaten a team with a winning record, but does any of the opponents that Marist or Carrollton beat this year have a winning record? Obviously they are perceived as being strong team, but we dont knock them for who they have beat. Cairo is 4-2, their 4 wins have come against teams with like 7 wins the whole season. Carver or Chamblee probably should have gotten that ranking ahead of Cairo.

I’m not sure where the rest of you were but don’t come on this blog 3 days later or after the game is over and act like you told us so because you don’t have the balls to represent before the game starts! You Jags talk about how your coaches are your problem and every excuse in the book, I know y’all were just waiting until the game was over to involk those same excuses should you have lost.
I will say it again for you “Johnny come Lately’s” GREAT game Stephenson and good luck the rest of the season. I wanted to beat you really bad but you won the game out right. At the end of the day we know that football in this area is the best in the state and know that now that all the dekalb teams are in the same region we will prove to the rest of the state that there is no equal to Dekalb county football.
I garuntee you no one wants to play any seed coming out of this region because either team could be a 1 or 2 seed in any other region. Watch what happens when the playoffs start. You will see our region dominate. That being said, we live to fight another day and you don’t want to face us after Friday nights debacle!

@DeKalb County Guy — “Carver can only beat the teams that are on the schedule.” True, but Carver had 3 non-region games to schedule and could have picked 3 tough teams. Does not mean that Carver won’t show itself to be a great team, but don’t pretend that Carver had no choice in who it scheduled. The rest of Carver’s schedule so far has been very soft — not blaming Carver for that, as those are region games, but not giving them a pat on the back either for winning games they should win.

I posted on at least one blog that the game was a toss up on paper but I predicted Stephenson to win based on them playing on virtually the same level of competition while Tucker still had something to prove by moving up in classification. The same still holds true, Tucker is a great program but another level up requires proof to support any sustaining of dominance. Stephenson has done it and only needs to conquer the playoff gorilla.

I believe Fitzgerald smoked Charlton pretty good too, and are ranked in the top ten in AA, so YOU need to work on your facts little angry man! When its all said and done the only thing that matters is the State Title at the end of your name. Tucker is still the team to beat when the playoffs come. They are the defending champion. With that being said, Stephenson did shut down there mighty running game. For what its worth I think 5-A has the most competitive football in the State of Georgia. I said this once and I will say it again the State title will be in dekalb county, which team I am not sure, but if I was a betting man my money is on Stephenson or MLK. could very well be an all dekalb final.

Swamp Lizard – I do the rankings with feedback from writers. The AJC poll since 1952 has been coordinated by one person. It’s never been a vote. Not saying that’s good or bad. It’s just the tradition of it.
ECI vs. Lincoln County – Lincoln has the better win, but the worse loss. I can see where you question ECI, though. It’s tough finding a legit #2 team, frankly. By ‘’legit,’’ I don’t mean finding a good team, but just one that everyone agrees: “That team is #2.’’
I think you’re too caught up in how a team goes up and down after a week. I don’t operate like AP college football polls. I try to re-evaluate every team not just on how they just did, but how their opponents are doing. Lincoln lost to W-W, which lost to Jefferson 31-0, and Jefferson ost to Commerce. Not saying there aren’t reasons for all that, or that Lincoln isn’t a top team, but they should’ve beaten W-W if they’re clearly #2.
Btw, here is how Maxwell sees it … Note that Maxwell isn’t as concerned w/ winning and losing as he is the score. So he’s less punitive for losing a game you should have won (ie, Lincoln & Wilcox).
1. Eagle’s Landing Christian (68.62)
2. Lincoln County (60.99)
3. Wilcox County (56.89)

‘’The only way Lovett is legit @ 10 is when they beat GAC, so this is what you are selling eh? If so you may as well rank them above them. 4 losses ?’’
Other than the teams in the top five, I don’t see how anybody in Class AA would do better than 2-4 against Lovett’s schedule. Probably 90 percent would go 1-5 or worse, IMO. The Lovett situation is difficult. We can take the easy way out and not rank them, or we can ask that question: How would Benedictine or Screven County do w/ Lovett’s schedule? If you asked AA coaches around the state who would they rather face in the first round, Lovett or Washington-Wilkes, what do you think they’d say? How confident are you in predicting Lovett won’t make the Round of 16? Or QF? That’s all a #10 team is supposed to do. Not saying they’re going to win state.
‘’How does Benedictine drop from the rankings after a quality win? Not only do they drop but they go from #9 to NR while the #10 team stays the same.’’
Just felt like Jefferson, with an even better quality win last week, deserved that spot. Was determined to leave Lovett at #10 out of stubbornness, I guess.
‘’How many more multi loss teams are going to be ranked ahead of undeafeated Carver and Chamblee. Are we really going to have to run the table to get respect?’’
‘’This has to be a joke. Chamblee is 6-0 and beat a Columbia team 34-0 ON THEIR HOMECOMING. (27-0 at halftime) and Marist struggles to beat them and wins 16-0 an Chamblee STILL isn’t ranked?’’
! … Goodness gracious, the team is unbeaten and has played a few quality teams.’’
With Cairo (4-2), they’ve lost to two higher-class teams. They’ve made the QF or better five straight seasons. No apology for ranking them. As for the one-loss teams – Jonesboro, Stockbridge, Griffin – that’s a tough call.
I’ll point this out – Class AAAA has 77 teams in it. Other classes have closer to 60. Not sure how that happened. I guess it was teams choosing to play up. But it’s harder for a 6-0 team to be ranked in AAAA than any class. Further, Carver and Chamblee just haven’t beaten the school that provides ‘proof.’ They’re computer-rated schedules rank #12 and #25 ‘weakest’ out of 77 teams.
‘’I know MLK was ranked ahead of Stephenson, but considering Stephenson beat the No.2 and MLK struggled with winless Dunwoody, I thought for sure Stephenson will leap frog them.’’
Good argument. But MLK is undefeated, was rated higher in preseason and has beaten Stephenson each of the past two seasons. Could go either way on that, no doubt.
‘’I see AJC got a lot of respect for Tucker, they loose to Stephenson and are still ranked number 4.’’
Tucker has won 20 of 21 games and lost by 6, had the ball inside Stephenson territory before a turnover ended the game. It was what you might expect when two top-five teams play.
‘’Hey, Todd, how is it that George Walton (5-1), with a bye week, FALLS three spots??? … Don’t see how a 4-2 Savannah Christian, which has struggled in its last two wins, ranks ahead of a 5-1 team which has won its last four games by an average 40 – 9.5 margin.’’
Last week, GWA’s only loss was to the #2 team in the state. That #2 team now has a loss. Savannah Christian has beaten a better team in Calvary Day than any team that GWA has beaten. Of course, I could argue GWA’s case just as well.
I mean, let’s face it – Class A is impossible to rank!

@sportnuts yes that means beating a Region 1 team and well Lovejoy has played one this year and played them pretty good, minus two very good defenders. It was a 14-7 loss in the books but film shows how Lovejoy really held their weight in that game. They got hit with a crazy amount of penalties (brought back 2 TDs and 1 big play) (haven’t had as many called on them in a game since that game) and Colquitt went deep in the bag of tricks to get their 2 TDs. That tells me Lovejoy can hang with a Reg 1 team not named Camden. With that Colquitt isn’t performing as well and many (myself included) thought they would but you still can’t discount them come November.

sorry if this ends up being a double post.
@ Trojan94
dont get me wrong, Im not trying to take anything away from Carrollton, Lagrange, or Cairo. Those teams definitely come with significant credentials. I just hate that APS/Dekalb teams (except MLK, Stephenson, and Tucker) are disrespected or when they have a good team, its said they havent beaten anybody. True, none of Carver or Chamblee wins have come over a team with a winning record. But has any of Carrolton victories come over a team with a winning record? Has Lagrange’s? Has Cairo’s? Has Marist? So you could say they havent beaten anyone, either.
Dont get me wrong. Honestly, I doubt that Carver or Chamblee is better than Marist or Carrollton, and might not be better than Cairo or Lagrange, that will have to be settled on the field. But the argument that they havent beaten anyone or played anyone isnt legit. It seems that you are judging them on past accomplisments or lack thereof. And you said, Lagrange should be ranked higher than Carver? Carver 6-0, Lagrange 4-2. Lagrange lost to 6A newnan and a great Thomson team. quality opponents but still losses. The only comparable thing about them is that they both played Alexander. And Carver beat them by 28 on the road. Lagrange beat them at home by only 14. Not that I am an advocate of comparing scores, but not fair to say that u should rank them ahead of them.

I think its impressive how Tucker’s bloggers are showing good sportsmanship on here (well most of them). The truth is Tucker is a class program with a great support base. You don’t want to be a team on their schedule the rest of this season…they are well coached, talented, and will rebound from the Stephenson loss with a vengeance.
I know how passionate we Dekalb football supporters are of our teams. Bottom line….Tucker, Stephenson, and MLK are all forces to be reckoned with. SWD is no pushover either. Go back up and look at the rankings…3 out of the top 4 football programs in 5A…all within a few miles of each other. Pretty impressive. For my buddies and I, if our team isn’t playing, we go to one of the other games…hootin n hollarin for them and having a good time. Sure I’m a big Jaguar fan, but we enjoy supporting the Lions, Tigers, & Panthers too. Its a blast cheering for all those different breeds of cats.

@ HSFB Follower == I have seen all the top teams play and there is nothing special about any of them. 6-A is wide open. The team with all three phases of the game played at a high level will win state. There is one exception to my previous statement, Lovejoy. If Lovejoy executes, it will be hard for any team, any classification to beat them. Do not get me wrong and think I think we can not be beat, we can. It has happened. My arguement lies on the field. In time, people will see that Colquit game, in which Lovejoy out-gained them about 320-210 and with the miss of 2 field goals and a touchdown called back coupled with penalties such as a wide-out being called for ineligible man down field and a 30 yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on one play, HOW CAN WE WIN? We will be patient and allow things to take their natural course and see where it leads us.

oxford, newnan, calhoun, thomas co cent, and bainbridge were all losses for those perspective teams that you mentioned. can u say that they have really beaten anyone of consequence? Cairo most impressive win is over 2-4 Worth co. Carrollton most impressive win has been over 3A Chapel Hill a team that barely beat a pitiful Douglass Astro team or do u want to props for beating Columbus, Fayette Co. ? Same with Lagrange, who you want to give them credit for beating….Shaw? Columbus? Harris co?

But in the playoffs it’s a new season and everyone is 0-0.And the football guy u are you know anyone can make a run for it all. good luck to u guys but prepare for war cause teams in GA are loaded

First, let me say CONGRADULATION to the Jaguar Nation on their 13-6 victory over Tucker. Well played by the Jags and if this is an indication of the NEW and IMPROVED (Coaching) Stephenson, then look out 5A in the playoffs. The win over Tucker ensures Stephenson #1 or #2 going into the 2010 playoffs and a home game in the playoffs.
@Observer – 2012 5A class mostly contains the teams for last year’s 4A. When GHSA created class 6A, then most teams from previous 5A move up as well as most teams from the lower classes move to a new class one number up. The teams Stephenson will face in the playoff will be teams Tucker have beaten and loss to for YEARS. Stephenson choose to not to play up, as it has done for years. It is Stephenson who will face competition that it hasn’t played and not Tucker. This also holds true for MLK.
The Tigers will rebound from this lose and maybe this is what the doctor ordered. The Jr & Sr on Tucker’s team haven’t lost and sometimes losing will humble you, while refocusing on the prize at hand.
13-6 is NOT A BEAT DOWN, just a very close victory!

Region 6 playoff representatives are shaping up after each passing Friday Night. Battle tested and prepared is what this region will be bringing to the table, starting in mid-November 2012. Remember, 5a Region 6 is unlike many of the others, we are not waiting for ONE regular season BIG game, to see what our team can do, but it’s a 9 game evolution and preparation for the run at the CROWN. Playing #4 will be like playing a #1 in most other 5A regions.

Rankings aside, I am very excited to see the clear improvement of the Chamblee and Carver-ATL teams. It is good for our region to have competition, and it helps prepare our playoff teams for the post-season. Without a doubt, I think Marist, Chamblee, and Carver all share the same benefit of having played many of those teams from 5A Region 6 the last few years. While maybe Chamblee and Carver havent played what is perceived as strong schedules this year, many of the kids they got right now took their lumps playing Tucker, SW Dekalb and Mays last year and that tough competition has really helped them this year.

WOW! I have read every post on here about the Stephenson Jaguars., now here goes my 2 cents., It is true that Stephenson hasn’t won a State Championship yet! but what they have accomplish far more exceeds winning a state championship. Each year at the end of the season, seniors are wondering will they get the opportunity to play on the next level; Stephenson coaching staff have produced more Division 1 prospects than anybody else over the past several years! What most of you don’t realize is before MLK beat Stephenson, Stephenson has beaten them pretty handily, the year they had that good running back Stephenson shut him down. Stephen has lost in the play-offs each year by either 1,3 or 7 points, and that have mainly been to bad coaching calls. I believe that the best coaches rests in the Stat’s highest classification, it has always been that way. The largest school go after the best coaches, they usually have the most $$ and historically the Valdosta’s, Parkview’s Marrietta’s , SWD etc. etc. when these teams was in the highest classification, their coaches are the most historically winniest recognize coaches in the state. Stephenson has helped themselves tramendously by playing up gaining all the experience and the coaching staff knows how to win, just like chattachochee, Stephenson beat them at home and away twice, they move down and win a STATE CHAMPIONSHIP, Guys give them a chance, “for crying out loud”!!! They haven’t gotten to the playoffs yet–but in the end that team with “S” on their chest will be the AAAAA state champion winner’s for 2012… GO JAGS…

You can’t just jump to #1 after beating the #2 team who is WAY down this year.It wasn’t a “convincing” win at all. Northside is probably the most well rounded team in AAAAA with no weakness. With the best Junior QB in the state Great RBs and WR core that can hardly be matched up with. And Stephenson would be lucky to get into field goal range on the BEST DEFENSE in the state. Northside will only beat themselves if they lose this season but I doubt misfortune will happen 2 years in a row. Here’s how it is…..straight up being REALISTIC. The East Paulding first team is provably the best team in the state. Problem is that they have anywhere between 4 and 6 guys going both ways including their QB, top WR and one of the RBs. They have size speed, leadership and experience in those 15-17 kids this is in my estimation unparalleled. The lack of depth and the lack of coaching both imagination offensively and afjustment wise defensively are the reasons that they will fall short and probably either lose in the first round of the playoffs or the second. It’s a shame because there is still some talent coming up that should have been more developed by now. I will be there Friday for the Rome game. Which one of your schools can say that? This is the toughast region in 5A football hands down and the state champ will be tucker, ctephenson,or king but with kings top ranked defense in the state (averaging 7 points a game) and a balanced offense we will win

To all Stephenson fans – NSWR is a TOP PROGRAM in the state, just in case you didn’t know and they will need to be dealt with, if you want the crown…we at Tucker know this.
Also, I thought we had buried the so called “fluke play” between 2011 Tucker/NSWR game. For those Stephenson fans, who weren’t at the game and many where, NSWR had 3 opportunities following the so-call fluke play and history tells the outcome.
Tonight, the Tucker Tigers get another “W” in the win column, over the Panthers of SWD, another battle of the BIG CATS!!!!

@KingNation – Man, love many of your post, but I hope you referring to the past. There are a few more TOP players in OUR region than just MLK & Stephenson. Most of the teams in 2012 5A region 6 played in the region named #6…MLK & Stephenson hasn’t played in a region named #6 until this year, but region 6 welcomes the Lions and Jaguars to OUR region.

Miller Grove has maybe toughest second half of season schedule in Georgia. If they make playoffs it will be a playoff birth well earned.

My bet is that MLK wins region 6 but also I see some upsets in the making that might reshape that whole region.

Why in the H— BlueEagle15, Tucker Forever,5aReg6fan, JAB, TuckerDad, etc. still talking about last year, past years, concerning who is better, etc. This 2012—that old stuff is gone, most of the players are gone, history has been made with no changes to it.
Please move forward!

Lets forget about 2011 , 2012 is here and now …. Man for man and depth at postions Northside sports the best offense and defense in all of AAAAA …We’ve even got the High school version of RG3 , with a twist of Charlie Ward, we’ll have to wait until November until the real show starts…..The top 3 in Region 6 are great teams and are most definitely contenders , If everyone makes it thru I think this years matchups will rival the matchups in the second highest class in 2007……..You Tucker folks might remember that year.

@stephensonfinest531 But you can’t talk about losing when you Lose in the big time games. You’ve only won one game in like 4 year that actually matters. It was a pretty big one but you can’t win one and think your top dog of AAAAA. Thats all im saying. I give credit where credit is earn and if you beat MLK i will give Stephenson a Little bit more. and if they win a playoff game i will give them more so on and so forth.
But we will see how this plays out. I really think there will be some upsets in region 6 tonight.! I feel it in the air lol.

To read all these comments one would think that only Reg6 and NSWR need even show up for the playoffs.
There are some other pretty darn good teams out there and in the playoffs your top 10 doesn’t matter one but. Gainesville, Allstoona, TCC, etc.

Stay humble my friends or prepare to be humbled….the best post yet! Get your grades kiddies, this season will be the last for many of you being on a team playing organized ball because you’re not disciplined. Classroom first. Staying off of drugs, gas as you may call it and alcohol. All bad decisions and choices if your parents aren’t mature enough to tell ya. As you may know, one kid making bad choices affect a whole team. One team may have been humbled last week but it may be your week next, pump your brakes, cruise and enjoy the ride.

Can Burke County get any love? We beat a good Coffee County team soundly at their place, dominate Statesboro and you still want to rank Skanky Creek #1? What a joke. Have they played anybody with a winning record? Hope we see them in the playoffs and hang 50 on them!

@ Fair Play Fan, know body is talking about the past, Stephenson is playing it’s 1st year in AAAAA, and has just dethrone Tucker. BullEagle15, you need to go sit down man, you “lost” to Tucker, I can make a good case for Stephenson, in every game that they lost in the playoffs, I’m there each and every year. They have lost every year in overtime, by a field goal, last year lost to Lowdnes, but was penalized to death, had a touchdown called back, Hillgrove qtr. back got loose and scored, the year before that, Coffee beat them in double overtime after Stephenson missed a field goal and they end up scoring a field goal, the year before that, Newnan beating them on a last play field goal, so come on man! Excuses, a 1, 2, 3 7 pt. lost is a lost…

@ Jab == Stephenson played in 5A last season. Tucker was 4A with us and I know they were not AAA. 6A is new so we know they were not there.

Results are in for Saturday Games finally:
Stephenson 29
Miller Grove 32
MLK 51
Lakeside Decatur 0
Washington 44
Therrell 6
Carver Atlanta 65
South Atlanta 14
As I stated in a previous post, no disrespect for any team, but on any given Sunday, any team can be beat. Don’t discount teams in a region based on the past. And for those that say Carver Atl has not played anyone, they played Mays again this yr and won by 1 point. All this to say, the next few weeks will be exciting can’t wait to see final game results in 4A Regions 6A and 6B, and Region 5A region 6. Good luck to all and please stay healthy!!!!
