”Manchester up 14 – 7 over #7 Heard County @ the Half”
Hope folks appreciated GHSF Daily’s choice of Manchester-Heard as one of the Top 10 Games of the week. We realize not as many people will be following that game because it’s small-town football with teams that haven’t been that prominent lately, but we liked to spread the wealth of attention, and those teams have played pretty well this season. it might be for the region title –
Three things to know: 1. RB/DB Daranta Dunson is probably Heard County’s best player. He has rushed for 837 yards and scored 15 touchdowns and made 49 tackles and three interceptions. QB/LB Jonathan Hunt is another of five or six Heard County players who start on offense and defense. He has thrown for 545 yards and made 31 tackles. Dunson and Hunt have returned two kickoffs each for touchdowns. 2. FS Dame Turner is probably Manchester’s best player. He has four interceptions and two kickoff returns for touchdowns. He has thrown a TD pass and caught a TD pass. Linebackers Clentavious Smith (62 tackles) and Tre Bryant (47 tackles) are central to Manchester’s defense, which ranks seventh in Class AA scoring defense, allowing 8.8 points per game. 3. These are the only 5-AA teams without a region loss. Manchester’s last region title was in 2001. Heard’s last region title was in 2006.

Camden is guaranteed to have some competition when LC and Colquitt Co. hit their schedule. In fact they could lose both those games. All the other teams in 1-6A are weak this year, including Valdosta.

Why in this world is Ga Public Broadcasting showing GAC-Westminster on TV tonight? I’m betting it comes down to their usual PC thing. Can’t show the best games, or even games in South GA, got to be sensitive and have some diversity. They might have at least 10 people watching, all in the Atlanta area. Remind me not to send them any more donations. Very seldom do anyway. They seriously need to change their name to North GA Public Broadcasting.
