Cross country: Friedman continues torrid pace

Reilly Friedman, of Class A No. 3 Galloway, won the varsity blue race at the Aubrae Gunderson Invitational at Heritage-Conyers Saturday. Friedman’s Gaels came in sixth as a team, while Class A No. 1 Athens Academy won the meet and Class AA No. 1 Westminster came in second. It is Friedman’s second win of the season (the first was at the Clara Bowl), while he also has two second-place finishes to his credit. … In the boys varsity red race, Southwest DeKalb’s Jacques Williams won the race and his team finished eighth. Behind winner Winder-Barrow was Rockdale County in second and Mountain View at No. 3. … Class AAAAA No. 1 McIntosh came in second in the varsity white race as Brad Hort and Sidney Speir finished 1-2 for the Chiefs. Class AAAAA No. 5 Flowery Branch won the race behind six harriers in the top 27 and seven in the top 31. … In the girls blue race, Class AAAA No. 2 Alexander won as Brittany Truitt finished second and four other Cougars came in the top nine. … Winder-Barrow won the girls red race while Class AAAAAA No. 4 Brookwood came in second and Mountain View finished third. … Sarah Bowles of Lakeside-Evans won the girls varsity white race, edging out Jennifer Cora of Lakeside-DeKalb. Class AA No. 1 Westminster won the race, as 10 Wildcats finished in the top 33. … At the Ninth Annual Darlington Invitational, the host Tigers won both the boys and girls Class A-AA races Saturday in Rome. In the boys meet, John Reville of Our Lady of Mercy won the Class A-AA race while Holy Innocents’ places two runners in the top four in Warner Ray (third) and Ross Waters (fourth). Kinslee Clevenger of Darlington won the girls race while Katie Strawinski of Mount Pisgah came in second. No. 10 Etowah won the boys Class AAA-AAAAAA race, but Kennesaw Mountain’s Alex Dunlap won the boys individual title. The Eagles placed five racers in the top 14 led by Brian Matthews in sixth. The Mustangs came in second while Centennial finished third. … Blessed Trinity’s Natalie Kyle won the girls Class AAA-AAAAAA race and her Titans came in second overall. Etowah won the girls team race by placing six runners in the top 28, led by Shelby Rensel in fourth. … At the Lambert River Run, Pace Academy’s Joshua Rogers won the boys race while South Forsyth won the overall team meet. The War Eagles won on the strength of eight runners in the top 48 and were led by Ryan Peppenhorst in second. … Host Lambert won the girls race as Leanne Zimmer came in second and Katherina Aiken finished third. Freshman Savannah Carnahan of South Forsyth won the individual race.
