I have been watching high school football for 40 years and have never seen the team speed that I seen on the Monroe area team, they almost make the other team look extremely slow, but I guess it comes from the sprinters that they have from track and field……GO Canes

I was very surprised that Monroe had trouble with the Lanier Longhorns. This is Lanier’s first year playing a varsity schedule and they were able to keep the game close! A top program like Monroe should have been able to blow out a “first year” program however that did not happen.
I believe Lanier exposed Monroe’s lack of ability to defend the pass. The speed of Monroe’s offense means nothing if they can’t get their defense off the field.

My question is not how good Monroe is but how good is this brand new team Lanier? Just imagine how good they will be in a couple of years.

Lanier drew from some good Gwinnett programs when attendance lines were drawn. The Longhorns have acquitted themselves well so far this season. The Longhorns will be just fine, thank you, but I’m still STOKED that my HURRICANES are on top of 8-AAAA after Chestatee knocked off Stephens County at the Reservation!!!!

Go Trojans!

I wouldn’t put much stock into Friday’s game for Carrollton. Columbus didn’t have much to offer on the field. I guess they are waiting for baseball season. The next 3 – 4 weeks will show how Carrollton is this year. I would say better than expected after losing so many top players (and speed) to graduation but still unproven for the long haul. The O line is very good! Go Trojans!

I am a Carrollton fan but still see a 6-4(or worse)record this season.Lets enjoy the games and keep supporting the team.I agree with others-Columbus was very weak-could not even score against 3rd team.

@AJC/Score ATL…….? I don’t understand the “defense that allowed minus-19 total yards”. I can see allowed 1 yard but allowed minus 19 help me here that makes no sense ! They did not get 19 it was -19 so they did not allow anything. In fact they pushed them back everytime. Better to have said they had -19 yards total offense and left it at that..

I don’t get it,the guy who said Lanier exposed a weakness in Monroe Ares defense,Monroe has scored 275 point and has given up 69 points total in 5 games,to me it exposes that Monroe is dominating everyone. What’s the deal with Lanier anyway, the school is 4 stories tall and less than 2 miles from North Gwinnett High School…what Buford didn’t want to play in AAA,Buford is less than 5 miles away

The question still remains and the verdict is still out on Monroe. Other than Lanier, Monroe has played no one with a winning record. Though Lanier has 3 wins it’s a brand new program that will only get better. Why Monroe didn’t just blow out Lanier with all their experience is still questionable. Not trying to offend Monroe fans, I’m just not impressed especially seeing them struggle with an inexperienced first year program and then have wins over teams with losing records.

it’s all about respect, nobody was saying anything about how Stephens County had 4 wins all with teams that not only had losing records but almost winless records until they were beat by a team that had not had a winning season in 6 years….I don’t know if Monroe goes all the way, there will still be haters….until they get beat they are still underrated, hate all you want GO CANES

Preach on, ‘Canes 30014!! Stephens is in the same region, plays against the same competition, but the Indians are God’s gift to football while the 5-0 Hurricanes are just a fluke. AAA quarterfinals two years ago, lost in the first round to a very good Ridgeland team last year, and Monroe Area’s roster is as deep this year as it’s ever been. Size on the lines and speed to burn. Go ahead and overlook us, people. Do it at your own risk.

eri-tor: Why continue to post the same question, except to stir the pot?

Dont down play Lanier for the sake of trying to make Monroe look bad.
- Lanier has pulled and recruited from the same pool of players State Playoff 6A teams pull from.
- Lanier had more senior’s on their roster then Monroe.
You can first year this and first year that, but the bottom line is, this Lanier team has experience, is big, fast, and good.
