Poll Talk: Little change in rankings after week of few upsets

Only seven Top 10 teams lost their games last week. That’s after 16 and 18 were beaten the previous two weeks.

There are five new teams in the rankings — Monroe Area for Riverdale in Class AAAA, Appling County for Dodge County in AAA and George Walton Academy, Commerce and Johnson County for Wilkinson County, Charlton County and Marion County in A.

Expect another calm week, as there are only four games between ranked teams.

- No. 4 Lowndes vs. No. 8 Colquitt County in Region 1-AAAAAA
- No. 7 Gainesville vs. No. 10 Heritage-Conyers in Region 8-AAAAA
- No. 2 Brooks County vs. No. 8 Early County in Region 1-AA
- No. 8 George Walton Academy vs. No. 9 Commerce in Region 8-A

Two other pretty big games to note …

Brookwood at Parkview – This was metro Atlanta’s best rivalry as recently as 2005, and it’s near the top again now that Parkview has beaten Grayson and started 4-0.

Camden County at Valdosta – Camden hasn’t lost a subregion or region game since 1999. But Camden is going from the worst region pound-for-pound in the state to the toughest.

@dosta dawgs…yes… REALLY!! West Forsyth has only lost against Alpharetta in region play in 2011 and only to Grayson in Elite 8 playoff finals…with the # of returning starters and with win against Great teams like Gainesville and Alpharetta, they are the team to watch! Forget all the South GA talk…North GA is where the focus should be…

@ Maddball…(Region game #1) Beat Alpharetta 63-42 in the fifth-highest scoring game ever in the highest classification, West Forsyth QB A.J. Erdely rushed for 199 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries and was 9-of-15 passing for 141 yards. RB Jake Wiezcorek rushed for 163 yards and four touchdowns on 14 carries. West had 597 total yards…just a reminder…projected R6 #1, of course that is just a projection :-)

highschoolhigh lets just say if Camden should happen to go undefeated this year it will be the most difficult undeafeted season they ever pulled off. Region 1 worst team is better than the best team you used to play against in the region you were in. Camden is playing the best ball as of now, but over the course of a season in this region that has a way of changing some times. Besides, correct me if I am wrong, but what region was it that left you at home last year? As for Lowndes? Playing about 5 or 6 sophomores this year, so they should get better as the year goes along. It would be better to get them now like Colquit is than later after they have had some battle testing in the region. Colquit? hasn’t won a state championship the last 2 seasons but they did finish ahead of Camden in both. It is going to be a fun year in Region 1-6A.

@wtg49…..i know all about the high scoring contest between wf & alpharetta…..wf do seem 2 have alotta offense,,,but what about your defense??? if your defense is as good as your offense,,,,then i would gladly say wf is 6aaaaaa state champs………..remember 2009 the game between lassiter n colquitt? we went up against the best qb imo in the state of ga. hutson mason!!!!! do you remember him….well pack shut him down,,,,,n lassiter couldnt shut our offense down…..as a result pack won 46-17….now my point is,,,if lassiter would of had a defense half as good as their offense,,,they would of been 2009 state champs…..so not saying wf,,,n nc isnt good bc they are,,,,but against a good defensive team you wouldnt score nearly as half of the points you been scoring,,,,,,n 2 make matters worst,,,if your offense gets shut down,,,,then all the weight shifts on your defense 2 stop a high flying offense similiar 2 wf & nc

It is region time!!!!!! region 1aaaaaa will be like a playoff atmosphere in Valdosta and in Moultrie for sure. Valdosta is not as strong on defense as last year but all thats out the window when u are a proud program like Valdosta and region play jumpes off!!! Bksmith said it perfect that Lowndes and Colquitt were both better teams last year than the Cats but the cats out played us both to win the region. I have no dought that Camden will be ready to play and could put this game away early and should win with no problem but don’t let the VHS cats hang around. I do think Camden will win with no problem but the first quarter will be interesting because Valdosta will be so hyped cause it is a region game and plus it’s against the #1 team in your own back yard!!! Good luck to both teams

2010 title game cc vs brookwood…..pack had over 600 yds of offense,,,,,but we lost 52-38…..we didnt have a problem scoring,,,,we just had a problem stopping them,,,which means our defense was squat….so defense is a major factor when it comes 2 winning championships or going deep in the playoffs….so far imo the only all around team in 6aaaaaaa good offense /defense is camden …..i could say lowndes considering all the shutouts they’ve had,,,but they have a big game against my packers fri.night

(in my kevin hart voice) This will be a battle i must say!! i can’t make a prdiction on what the score will be but i do think the pack will win. I really hate coming out of a off week because your timing is off a little bit but i still expect Lowndes to throw some knockout punches at us and we will throw some back so i guess the winner will be the last one standing!!!

YOU DON’T THINK THAT OUR COACH IS PREPARING OUR KIDS FOR A TOUGHER SCHEDULE THIS YEAR AND I HOPE EVERYONE REALIZE THAT YOUR TEAMS HAVE TO PLAY US. WE ARE NOT SAYING WE ARE GOING MTO WIN THEM ALL BUT THAT’S OUR GOAL. 12 OR 13 YEARS AGO WHEN CAMDEN WAS GETTING BEAT AND GOING 6-4 IN R3, I DIDN’T HEAR ANY COMPLAINTS. WE WORKED HARD TO BE WHERE WE ARE TODAY. WE ARE NOT TAKING ANY TEAM LIGHTLY BUT DON’T TAKE US LIGHTLY EITHER. I WOULD LOVE TO SEE A SEMI WITH NOTHING BUT 4 R1 TEAMS. WE DIDN’T ASK TO BE RANKED #1 IN THE STATE BUT WE WILL WEAR IT PROUDLY AND WON’T TAKE IT FOR GRANTED. I LOVE HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL.

Coffee Trojan#44………If it were the playoffs, I’d be there to see Coffee get it’s just desserts! But since it’s regular season and I have a REAL good idea who’s going to win, I’ll use my airfare for something else.

Oh, by the way, did anyone else notice that the Refs who called the Camden/Colquitt game last season are now calling NFL Games? :-D

@Tipp Smooth, idk, Camden has a good football team, but Valdosta is no “Johnson Savannah”. I think it will be a close game, 28-21 and it could go either way.

Camden needs to remember that brooks county beat valdosta……if camden loses to valdosta then wow

valdosta will be fired up early on….camden just needs to survive the 1st quarter…then it will be all over the pusscats

@Camden74, yes, the Lowndes County Training School and Webb-Miller High School consolidated to become Westside. The school opened in 1960, the former Westside was merged with Lowndes High School. Today, only the gymnasium that is now part of Westside Elementary School remains of the former school.

hey bk, whats up… You still ain’t changed you mind about CC?? agree with 1 point, the hog pen.. I will take that into consideration, got to.. a rough place to play, for sure.. but it will not be enough for CC to beat us..

Want to bet on how many times Probst throws his hat??? remember he cut his teeth on s. spurrier… Oh well…

Valdosta as well as Camden has both something to prove, that will be a good game too..

@Camden74, after watching Coffee practice today you may be right about Camden beating Coffee, our defense scored more points then the offense. Coffee has looked horrible this past week, and our starting RB may be out for the season.

yo, point taken, but Colquitt is still without a title in region 1. Folks as with all regions the top 4 teams make the playoffs. Doesn’t matter where they fall at in that 4, all you need to do is get better when it matters. Still not buying into playing in atougher region will make you better come playoff time. That theory has not held up in region1, since only Lowndes had 5 A titles before Camden joined that region. Region 1 never went head to head, so either the rest lost to lower seeds or the other teams were not at the same caliber as the top team. So if region 1 matched up with other regions and played tough games every week in their region, why only 1 team with state titles? My theory is that since region 1 is mostly made up of rivalry schools, that is where the competitveness comes from. The most talented and disciplined team will prevail. Camden actually gives region 1 a power who will be a legitimate contender year in and year out. I think that there is only 1 high school in Camden, which means they don’t have another school to split the talent pool. I think Colquitt is the same. Region 1 will be interesting this year, but Camden is in a no win situation, they win out and the talent in region 1 is down, they lose a game and we told you Camden could not compete.

I am a Camden Fan and I can tell you that Valdosta has a very good football team. Our Wildcats will need to play flawless Friday night. We will NEVER underestimate our opponent. As far as we are concerned Valdosta is the best team in the State. Camden will be well coached and very focused on the task at hand. Good luck to Valdosta. We will show class and respect for our opponent.

Coffee Trojan#44…….When one team underestimates another, there’s usually a surprise waiting for the team doing the underestimating! Don’t think that will happen with anyone on Camden’s Region 1 schedule…..I expect a tough game every week for the rest of the season……Camden is wearing the TARGET! :-D

Over Under says “So if region 1 matched up with other regions and played tough games every week in their region, why only 1 team with state titles?”

Part of the answer to that would be that Camden and Region 1 have been taking each other out in the playoffs in most years. The good news for the “new” Region 1 and the bad news for the rest of the state is not any more!! :-)

I read in the paper today about Valdosts New High school that they will be building. In the article it said that they would be building a new stadium as well. Therefor it is very well said when you call the old stadium “Blazer Field”. http://valdostadailytimes.com/local/x1241963821/Architect-chosen-for-new-city-school

i watched the full grayson / parkview game today online…….wow

graysons o line is average at best this year…..lost a lot off line from last year

parkview stuffed grayson all night………made grayson look bad

mceachern is way way down this year……and miami central…..they are a joke

graysons defense is still pretty good…….this alone will be the reason they make the playoffs ….but grayson will not win state this year…they dont have the offense……remember i said it…..avg offense at best with a good defense…not going to get it done..

sure grayson made a mistake with the muffed punt and had 4 huge penalties…but it wd not have nattered …parkview dominated them on both sides the ball

it would be 31 – 17 Camden over Valdosta. I see Coffee will be coming to the Den this

Reg. 1 AAAAAA. Can you remember the quote from the ole Toyota commercial, “You
asked for it, and you got it, “Camden”. Deal with it, see you Friday.
