Predictions: Look for Parkview to stay hot in 8-AAAAAA

Parkview pulled off the national upset of the week last Friday and blew the Region 8-AAAAAA race wide open with its 22-7 victory over Grayson, which was ranked No. 1 in two national polls. Now the Panthers face an Archer team that suffered a heart-breaking loss to Brookwood last week but routed Parkview last season to earn a playoff berth. Look for Parkview to recover from its big upset in time to win a close one, and expect Grayson, Central Gwinnett and South Gwinnett to win the region’s other games.

And congratulations go out to Terrence Bruce of Hartwell, who was last week’s winner in the High School Football Pickoff contest. Bruce was the only contestant to correctly pick the winner in 13 of 15 games. Click here to sign up and participate in this week’s contest.

I’ll take Archer over Parkview, and I bet they win comfortably.

@GwinnettDad … I’m still not sure what to make of Parkview or Archer at this point. Frankly, it wouldn’t shock me either way that one turns out.

Chip, Brookwood had no business winning last Friday. Archer was bigger and stronger. Haven’t seen Parkview play but admire Cecil Flowe immensely. However, I’m betting his team was pointing towards Grayson for months. Thus, a letdown for Parkview, plus Archer really did deserve to beat Brookwood for the 2nd year in a row.

Chip…

EAST over NEW MANCHESTER…RAIDER J.V. gets more playing time! 1st meeting between these two schools, it’s an away game looking forward to seeing them.

You might need to rethink a couple of the game predictions…

#1 HIRAM over NORTH PAULDING…First off it’s at NORTH PAULDING in front of their home fans and they bring a crowd that gets loud and behind the team. They have a new coach who has them playing aggressive ball and they gave EAST a good game for the first half in the RAIDERS opening game. NORTH PAULDING can VERY easily win this game and I’m not so sure you would call it an upset! The winner of this game may be the #4 spot in Region 5 AAAAA!

#2 The Thomas Co. Central @ Tift County game…Call this one the upset special if you will BUT this is a HOME game for Thomas County, they are already 2 / 1 on the season and could easily be 3 / 0 having BARELY lost the first game 33/29. and while I realize it has no actual bearing on this game it has a bit of “revenge factor” for Coach Reid as he took a VERY good undefeated 12/0 EAST PAULDING team to THOMAS COUNTY CENTRAL in 07 for a playoff game and got spanked (and that’s being kind) 48 / 21! This is his first chance since then to get a “W” against them!

TICK…TICK…TICK…BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!
GO RAIDERS!!!!

@Cannon … I think you can go further than you did. I think the winner of the North Paulding-Hiram game WILL get the No. 4 spot in Region 5. This is another one I could see going either way. And you might be right about Tift, but I based that pick on the fact that TCC has had a considerably more difficult schedule. We’ll see on Friday. And enjoy your trip to New Manchester … from what I’ve seen it’s a gorgeous school.

Cedartown at Ridgeland….A game most will overlook, but an important region game in AAAA. Also and interesting individual match-up between Under Armour All-American Saftey Von Bell of Ridgeland and Cedartown junior running back Nick Chubb, who has 938 yards rushing and 13 touchdowns through 3 games! Should be fun!

@Spectator … Good catch, eagle eye! It should have been Harrison over Pebblebrook and South Cobb over Campbell. Correction has been made.

Here we go GRIFFIN, here we go! Woodland-Stockbridge beware!! The mighty Bears are on the hunt for some fresh wolfpack to score early and often upon. The always great traveling Griffin fan base will be there en masse, rolling into Stockbridge like storm-troopers in sync. All attending that arena will witness another epic saga in the Bears mighty march toward the State Playoffs. This game gets no hype due to the lack of wins by Woodland, but be advised, the Bears will not let up. They shall continue to utilize their vaunted arsenal of scoring prowess! GO BEARS!!!!

Ok, after the game, and back at my humble abode, lets see how my well honed prognostication skills stack up:
Final Score: Griffin 52, Woodland 20. Bears scored early and often.(check)
Bears were driving for another score with backups in at end of game, then mercifully let the running clock wind down. They did not let up. (check.)
Fans: Griffin side was PACKED and outnumbered the home team easily by 3 to 1. (check) That is a shame really. I mean come on people. Go and support your school.
Griffin utilized their skills by scoring through the air, nice runs up the middle, screens, pitch sweeps and even a half-back pass for a long td! (Check MATE!) Woooo – GO BEARS!!!!
