By Score Atlanta
Clarke Central 40, Loganville 6: The Gladiators were fueled by a 27-point second quarter and running back Rodney Willingham’s two touchdowns. Clarke Central’s Kavon Williams blocked a punt and returned it for a touchdown. Gladiators defensive lineman Demond Stovall intercepted a pass and returned it for a touchdown in the third.
Clarkston 34, Towers 6: The host Angoras received three touchdowns from running back Khalif Harper. Out of the Wildcat formation, he rushed for two and threw for one. His touchdown pass was a 15-yard completion to wide receiver Laquan Odom. Jerrod Carter recovered four fumbles for Clarkston.
Drew 42, Rockdale County 0: The Titans scored three touchdowns on special teams to defeat visiting Rockdale County. Drew returned a punt 75 yards for a touchdown three minutes into the game. The Titans also scored on a safety later in the game. The victory was Drew’s first of the season.
Flowery Branch 45, Cedar Shoals 27: The visiting Falcons coasted to a 42-0 lead at halftime, but allowed Cedar Shoals to score 27 points in the second half. Flowery Branch was led by quarterback Jordan McDonald, who rushed for 142 yards and three touchdowns. The quarterback also threw for 208 yards and two touchdowns.
Heritage-Conyers 21, Salem 7: The host Patriots remained unbeaten with a win in a defensive struggle against cross-town rival Salem. The Patriots’ defense allowed only 154 total yards to the Seminoles and a single touchdown late in the fourth. The biggest play for the Patriots came on an Obe Fortune 64-yard punt return to the Salem 1-yard line that set up a touchdown.
Hiram 25, Villa Rica 19: Hiram cruised to a 25-8 halftime lead then held off visiting Villa Rica for a hard-fought victory. The Hornets got touchdown runs from quarterback Rodrick Harrison and running back Jamal Hinds in addition to a 24-yard field goal off the foot of Trevor Wylie. The defense provided a scoring punch in the form of a 60-yard fumble return by Caeman Lockett.
Pope 20, Etowah 17, OT: The Greyhounds’ defense held visiting Etowah to a field goal in overtime before quarterback Stephen Skruck punched in a 1-yard sneak to seal a home win for Pope. In regulation, Skruck also connected with Ben Doran on a touchdown pass, and Ronald Woods rushed for the Greyhounds’ other score.
Southwest DeKalb 46, Lakeside-DeKalb 21: The Panthers’ “wildcat” running attack was just too much for visiting Lakeside-DeKalb. Clayton Davenport rushed for 150 yards and two scores on just seven carries. Robert Brice gained 165 yards on 12 rushes and also scored twice. Southwest DeKalb opened the second half with an 80-yard touchdown pass to Justin Mincy.
Whitewater 41, Fayette County 14: Senior running back Kendall Conley rushed 14 times for 170 yards and three touchdowns for the visiting Wildcats. Christian Wafford (60 yards rushing) and Ian McIntyre also scored rushing touchdowns, and quarterback Jay Ashley (5-for-8 passing) threw a 30-yard touchdown strike to Brian Womack.

East looked really good for the first 18:00 minutes or so…then focus set in. Up 35-0, team seemed “borded” with competition and just wanted to go on to other things. Coach Goddard got after D and they woke up and stopped four attempts to score from inside the three. Two more of these “tune-up” games before real season begins…if we can stay focused.

They bring that same intensity every time they play. That’s the only way to play football that I know of. I never played harder or more intense for different opponents. I gave my all everytime I touched a field… maybe that’s the difference good teams and great teams, you play to your potential and not you opponent

RAIDERS win # 3 in “THE BONEYARD” against PAULDING COUNTY…
EAST play JV squad in the 2nd half with a running clock going to keep the score from getting run up. Paulding County has a lot of issues to deal with, they really should be a much better team than they are, and it was disappointing to look across the field at the visitors side and see it barely half full.
Nice to be sitting at the top of the Region and EAST is looking better each week, BUT it’s still hard to know how good either the RAIDERS or ALLATOONA really are…
ALLATOONA has beat WOODLAND – BARTOW 45 / 20, PAULDING COUNTY 36 / 0 and now ROME 39 / 17…and if not for two long kick-off returns they would have beat ROME 39 / 3!!!
EAST on the other hand has beat NORTH PAULDING 38 / 17, WOODLAND – BARTOW 49 / 0, and PAULDING COUNTY 42 / 0.
As each team has beat the same opponents already we can only compare the ROME / NORTH PAULDING wins and at this point I give ROME a “slight” edge as the better team, BUT ROME plays at NORTH PAULDING on Oct. 12th…that game may show a lot about the REGION 5 standings.
So another good night in “THE BONEYARD”, the “CANNON” fired ALL night long!

Mays definitely came to play. MLK made the plays when they had to and pulled it out. Mays just didnt have enough offense to outscore MLK. I question if Mays will bring the same intensity as they did to this game. I know others have question May’s ability to win the big game and their will be a lot of big one’s in this region. Cant wait to see Mays play SWD, that one might be for a playoff berth.

Southwest Dekalb was missing several key starters this game. #28 Malik Wright, #5 Gerard Owens and #1 Jalen French all made game time decisions not to play due to injuries. These are 3 of their most electrifying offensive talents. No doubt Mays will be coming to play, however, with Southwest Dekalb’s newly fine-tuned offensive scheme, look forward to a high-scoring, physical run-pass attack.

Hat’s off to The MLK team.band and administration. The halftime salute honoring Benjamin E. Mays was classy and priceless. Some of you may not know that Benjamin E. Mays was Martin Luther King Jr.’s mentor. To the team (Mays). Until the coaches cultivate a bench with useful rotations, this team will remain a level below of the playoff teams in this region. There is talent on the bench that could be starting if coaches learn to get into the minds of these guys and “COACH THEM UP”. Certain guys log all their squads snaps AND special teams. Forth quarter the are spent when they should be finishing the deal.
Anyway number 33 for MLK was a mighty load and their other runners sealed the deal last night.

I know this will not make Mays HS day. But they are the best team in the city. The talent level that left the city. The coaches has to make a decision do I play my best 22 or do I play my best 25/30? Which might will effect the results of the game score. They are ask to do the same or more with less b/c of the region. They don’t have a serious booster club, some of the talented kids don’t play b/c they have to work, grades, attitudes, lack of support personal. I used to be a city player. IMO

It’s a sad state of affairs when the #7 AAAAA ranked team is not mentioned in the sports section this far into the season. Local fans have to report on them in the blogs. Just like all years past, AJC will report on them when/if they lose or when they get far enough along into the playoffs that they have to mention them to fill space. I subscribe, have for years, but I often wonder why.

@swatguy Mays does have a few guys that rotate. You have to look at the situation and be smart if you can’t get production out of your next guy do you put him in? The same thing happens in college and the pros a lot of guys are getting paid millions to be a non productive back ups and some are on scholarship in college to do the same thing. The inner city schools don’t have the quality depth that most schools have you are dealt a hand and you play it unless you recruit and that’s not allowed. Mays has a Great team I think they must learn to finish you always play your best players unlike park ball with a set amount of plays everyone must play.

Normally i love your post, but this one kinda struck a nerve… you said that “Paulding County has a lot of issues to deal with, they really should be a much better team than they are, and it was disappointing to look across the field at the visitors side and see it barely half full.”
Honestly they really do not have a lot of issues other than the fact that they start 8 sophmores between Offence and Defence, PC has one of if not the best Coaching Staffs in the county (16 coaches) Freshman-Varsity. The team is very young, and just does not match up well Junior and Seniors.. They Opened up with the hardest part of the schedule first.. excluding New Manchester Allatoona, Hiram, East, Villa Rica, then Rome.. thats gonna be tough for anyone most less primarly playing with kids who should still be on JV getting much needed exp. But with that being said, the younger class ie: freshmen have an uber amount talent and the future looks bright with wins over @North 44-22 and over Hiram 35-7 which East only defeted 22-0.. As far as the support goes, I dont know why they didnt travel well this past week, but i assure you Dave Harden Stadium is packed out in Red White and Blue on friday nights.. PC has a great following and a lot of support, but as with any team taking their “lumps” sometimes its hard to get people to travel to away games even though its just a hop and a skip.. I remember quite vividly back in the day when east was 2-38 in a 4 year span, because i was on thoes teams, and there were nobody at the games home or away..

Ok…Fair comments to a point! My “issues” comment was directed at lack of support from parents, fans, and school administration which the team HAS to have to succeed! If your Home stands are as full as you say then Congrats on that, win or lose the kids deserve to see folks come out and support them!
I agree PAULDING COUNTY opened with the hardest part of it’s schedule but they should have been able to beat NEW MANCHESTER! You have VILLA RICA, LITHIA SPRINGS, ROME, WOODLAND / CARTERSVILLE, NORTH PAULDING, & SOUTH PAULDING left on the schedule. Unless the coaches get things corrected FAST you are looking at MAYBE winning 2 of those games (LITHIA SPRINGS & WOODLAND / CARTERSVILLE).
That’s another 2 / 8 season! PAULDING COUNTY went 2 / 8 last year…1 / 9 in 2010, 4 / 6 in 2009 & 3 / 7 in 2008. In my opinion they could do much better, you make reference to all the sophomores playing…EAST STARTED a sophomore QB (Mitchell Webb), a running back (Kamani Thomas), and several others over the last few years and won! Hey I want to see all our Paulding County teams do well and win (except of course when they play EAST) that’s why my comment was I was “disappointed” in the support last Friday night!
FYI…Do a quick spell check on your post in the future! Keep posting!

You must wait until this year to see us again because we sent you packing last year. We are very talented and just as good this year as last, so don’t think you are the only team in the state that can compete.
You call us rude but y’all did all the talking last year and got beat by a better team. WTF does my spelling have to do with my post? FYI check the time that my comment was left.. 4:49am If you want to be a grammar cop, head your silly butt back on over to p.com, you will be better off there. And to compare the sophomores at PC to MW and KT.. You must be insane!! That is “frikin” crazy; they are two of the best players in the county if not the state. Being that you’re brushed up on so much PC history, how many head coaching and AD changes have they had in the time frame you mentioned? Not to mention the demographic of students that go to PC, and I am not even going to get into that, but you being all knowing I am sure that you already know. It’s really a mute point to discuss things with someone such as you, being that you’re a fan and really know nothing about football other than what you hear in the stands and on the stat sheet. I use to love East fans, because I am one of them. But more often than not now I find myself seated on the visitor side to remove myself from the b.s that the fans and students of East Paulding High School say/do/act I group you guys with the North folk now, and I am ashamed at times; to say that I went to East and played football there. I tried my best to be nice but you made it personal for no reason what so ever, as slight a poke in the side it was you East folks always got to add insult to injury.. I can’t wait till next season when the roles are reversed and East is getting handled week to week..
P.S.
Is my spelling good enough for you tonight, or do I need to make you an audio copy?

Go back to the archives if you want and read post after post I have thru the years about both the “O” line and the “D” that RAIDERS teams have fielded. This ONE particular post was in response to “TheDewInYourGunPowder”’s post about PAULDING COUNTY playing sophomores and that’s why they were losing…my comments were about EAST doing the same thing last year and WINNING! Nothing more and certainly no slight intended against the lines. As far as being anybody’s “agent” or “daddy”…NOPE, no connection in any way, I have been in here posting now for years, before either of these players ever stepped foot on “THE BONEYARD” field!
@”TheDewInYourGunPowder”…
“how many head coaching and AD changes have they had in the time frame you mentioned?” That comments MAKES MY POINT!!! If the school and the administration as well as the booster club (?) and parents would get in behind the coach they could HELP build a winning program at PAULDING COUNTY! Instead for years now this support has been all but non existent! I know this from personal experience of being affiliated with a non-profit that donated dollars to each High School in Paulding County for the sports programs and a few years ago a representative came to our lunch to receive a check. EACH school sent a representative and all were VERY thankful for our small contribution…EXCEPT PAULDING COUNTY HIGH…they called and asked if we couldn’t JUST MAIL THEM THE CHECK!! I hope the new coaching staff has it turned in the right direction and time will tell.
and what’s with your “demographic of students that go to PC” comment? What’s is that supposed to infer? Don’t be so thin skinned, stop trying to start an argument and post rebuttal comments we can all discuss.
Finally if your “b.s.” you say your hear on the EAST side is the LOUD ROCKIN’ FANS, the BELL RINGING, HORN BLOWING excited fans who pack not only HOME STANDS…BUT THE VISITORS SIDE STANDS Friday night after Friday night then I guess you are right!!!

No not at all is the ” LOUD ROCKIN’ FANS, the BELL RINGING, HORN BLOWING excited fans who pack not only HOME STANDS…BUT THE VISITORS SIDE STANDS Friday night after Friday night” I love that actually.. I am talking about chants such as EP Hoe! From the student body, it has never sat well with me and is downright BAD..
What’s with my “demographic of students that go to PC” comment? What’s that supposed to infer? If you look where the district lines are drawn and see where these kids live you will understand what I am talking about.
I also noticed that you just omitted my comments about the sophomores that EAST has had start compared to that of PC. Look East is blessed with talent, PC is not period.. And that is what is boils down to.. I know firsthand the talent that both teams have. PC is slowly turning it around, but you being on the outside looking in; it’s hard to see the changes that have been made.. The booster club (?) as you put it backs Coach H 100% and breaks their backs day in and day out to support the Patriots, the parents do the same. Where the support is lacking is from the student body which reverts back to the whole demographic of the student comment, they just don’t care about the football team win or lose, it’s like nothing I have ever seen. I guess there are a lot of things that we will have to just agree to disagree on and leave it at that. But if you want a peek at the future of PC football come on out to the freshmen game in a few weeks and you will see what it is going to be.. That 4 year winning streak is going to be snapped my friend..

“East is blessed with talent, PC is not period” — The amount of “talent” ANY school has is dependent on the feeder programs from the middle schools that the high schools draw from and below that of course the rec. programs etc. that start the kids at early ages who then go to these middle schools. If you were at the EAST game last week you saw the future of EAST for years to come as the small kids up to the middle schools got to walk the sideline and be introduced as FUTURE RAIDERS!! That’s how you build a successful / winning program and EAST has Coach Reid and his hard work getting this put in place to Thank for that. Getting EAST winning and moving in the right direction is the legacy he left for the new coach to build and grow.
I will admit I don’t know why PAULDING COUNTY (and many others EAST plays) don’t support the kids better than they do. NORTH PAULDING seems to do well, they were of course PACKED OUT on the Home side a few weeks ago against EAST and they filled the visitors side at “THE BONEYARD” when they came last time, but the schools are close and I don’t know how they do on longer road trips. HIRAM is up & down…I went to the HIRAM / KELL game a year or so back and they had a good crowd and they of course will probably have a big crowd when EAST visits Oct. 12th. SOUTH PAULDING also brought a good crowd to “THE BONEYARD” last time they came but I have not been to any of their other away games.
PAULDING COUNTY / EAST JV play @ “THE BONEYARD and the Freshman team travels to PAULDING COUNTY on Oct. 4th…we’ll see how they both do them I guess!
As far as your “demographic of students that go to PC” comment…I don’t agree at all concerning a potential talent pool of kids…the make-up of South Paulding is pretty much identical to Paulding County and South is very competitive. I stand by my original comment that other “Issues” are to blame and don’t get me wrong…THEY CAN BE FIXED!!

Paulding fans fighting with Paulding fans…. Dang. Both of you are very passionate that us obvious. I will say one thing…. The fans at games between Paulding schools are down right rude and inhospitable. I have been to games in all five venues and sat on both sides of all but south and east. The paragraph that is read before each game about spectators being respectful is obviously ignored and quickly dismissed in the county. It doesn’t apply to everyone and I realize that all teams have their 10% that are over the top, however I too join ‘dew’ In saying that WE collectively should be embarrassed how we act at these games.

@ Cannon
The amount of “talent” ANY school has is dependent on the feeder programs from the middle schools that the high schools draw from and below that of course the rec. programs etc.. Yes and no, I agree that it is where it starts. The PC Feeded teams have done very well thus far as well, But the level of talent that MW, KT, KN, LS, is far and above that. MW has been the one of the best since day one back when he played ball for his pops at New Hope.. KT, and LS have always had the “it” factor and that is something that you can not coach. The East vs. PC JV game will be ugly for PC but the Freshmen game will be exciting, so come on over to PC and enjoy the show!!
