POY Watch: State’s leading rusher debuts at No. 4

Nick Chubb, the Cedartown running back who has rushed for more than 350 yards in each of his first two games, both victories, is new to the GHSF Daily/Atlanta Journal-Constitution Player of the Year Watch this week.

Returning to the list this week is AJC Super 11 defensive tackle Montravius Adams, who has helped lead Dooly County to a 2-0 start and top-10 ranking in Class A. Adams was on the list earlier this season but fell out last week.

Chubb and Adams replace Norcross running back Alvin Kamara, who was limited by injury last week in a 20-0 victory over Parkview, and Newnan safety Tray Matthews, whose team lost its first game.

Interesting, I guess by the end of next week J.J. Green won’t be in consideration for POY at all…… :-)

I can honestly say JJ Green may be the best player in the state when healthy. He is a BEAST!

I thought Tyren Jones was tight. I would love to see Chubb carry the ball.

Chubbs numbers are SICK…but don’t really compare to Jones when you look at quality of competition. Chubbs numbers came against 0-2 AA Pepperell and AAA Rockmart whose win came against 0-2 Coosa. Jones did his damage against two traditional large class playoff contenders (Brookwood and McEachern). Again crazy numbers for Chubbs but not apples to apples comparison to Jones.

As long as he is on the field, JJ Green should always be in consideration for POY… Kid is a baller on both sides of ball!

You have GOT to put Josh Dobbs back on this list. He has over 800 yards of offense running and passing in the first two games and is raising his game every week. There is no QB with that kind of production so far in the state at any level that i can see. The Raiders will struggle this year to win as much as last year due to a tougher schedule and coach/player losses, but he is going to put up some CRAZY numbers this year in 6A after having led the state last year in passing yards and TD passes (per game). POY should not be a recognition just of talent or of a good player on a really good team. It should be a recognition of who is the most dominant player on the field for 2012.

The Chubb guys numbers are legit. Hey; Chubb rushed for 1,500 yards as Sophmore with 25 Td’s. I expect 285 this Friday. Rockmart, Pepperell & Cedartown are rivary games, so records you can toss records out the door.

No ANTHONY JENNINGS? Who’s making these selections? Mike Booboo?

After facing Jennings, Newnan’s Coach said, ” IF THERE’S A BETTER QUARTRBACK IN THE STATE, WE DON”T WANT TO FACE HIM.” In his next game, after missing on his first pass, he completed his next 18 straight! He’s an LSU commit, a school thay has won more National Titles in the past few years than UGA has won in 32, so I would tend to trust their evaluation over Richt’s and Booboo’s.Ramsey is Richt and Booboo’s PERSONAL PREFERENCE, not what’s best for UGA. These two are why you will never, and I mean NEVER, win a National Title! 32 years. No wonder.

tide roll making his weekly push for the Marietta QB yet again. Sounds like the Newnan coach is scared of quality competition. Jennings is certainly on of the better QBs in the state but it is not like he’s head and shoulders above everyone else. In that Newnan game he did as many things that led to the loss as he did to give them a chance to win and I think time will tell that Newnan is an average team at best. Pope will not even sniff the playoffs. Lets see how Jennings does against Hillgrove and Mceachern the next two weeks.

POY is not designed strictly review players that goes both ways! This is the Hesiman watch; & no Heisman race guru goes both ways & dominates every night people.!. All SuperStars dont go both ways!
