The Maxwell Ratings rank regions based on the average of all teams in those regions. Remember that this means regions with several weak teams at the bottom will bring down the average. The rating number is a points figure. According to Maxwell, the average team in Region 1-AAAAAA is 10 points better than the average team in 8-AAAAAA, the second-strongest region in the state.

Not sure what you can learn from teams having played only 1 or 2 games. We all know in 5A that Region 6 is the strongest. Sure Lakeside, Dunwoody and North Atlanta are the bottom feeders, but the Top 5 teams are pretty solid.

Why are some Regions done in Div A&B and some aren’t? Example AAAAA Region 7. Yes Div B is stronger than Div A, but if you combine them Region 7 would drop.
What would be more interesting would be to take the top four teams (playoff teams) and then rate the regions based on that.

I am sure Camden helped make that Region16A number rise a bit….nonetheless, it just continues to feed into the agony of those who tire of southern chest thumpers, but it is what it is.

Packer Fan’s opinion,
Valdosta beat Packers and Lowndes butt last year.
Last year Packers and Lowndes both gave Grayson a tough game.
Unless the Cats lost alot of players, they’re gonna be tough.
Watch-out for the Cats! Their Coach knows how to win!

@FridayNightLightsFan – The regions are broken up the way they are because that is the way GHSA has them broken up for play. See http://www.ghsa.net/2012-2013-region-alignments-football . The GHSA website also explains why they set up sub regions in the regions they did. If I remember correctly, I think it has to do with excessive travel within the region if there were no sub-regions.

Since the article states “Remember that this means regions with several weak teams at the bottom will bring down the average”, I wonder what the results would be if the bottom teams were dropped so that each region only had 6 teams like R1. I bet the numbers would be closer. R1 would still probably come out on top but it maybe would be closer.
