By Score Atlanta

Apalachee 21, Lanier 11: Running back Zay Henry scored an 80-yard touchdown run on the first play from scrimmage to give the visiting Wildcats a lead they would not relinquish. Apalachee led 14-0 at the intermission, but Lanier rallied to cut the lead to 14-11 at the start of the fourth quarter. Eric Tanner then responded with his second touchdown of night, a 14-yard run.

Heritage-Conyers 9, Northgate 7: The host Patriots narrowly escaped with a victory over the Vikings on a Harrison Kulp 18-yard field goal with just a minute left on the clock. Kulp kicked three field goals for the Patriots’ only points. Heritage fell behind 7-3 in the second quarter, but was able to climb back in front with great defense and Kulp’s kicking.

McIntosh 51 North Springs 6: The visiting Chiefs jumped to a 21-0 lead when Andrew Johnson hit Bo Brown for a 40-yard touchdown with just three seconds left in the half. The Chiefs defense got on the board with a safety to open the second half and a Victor Nguyen seven-yard touchdown. Backup quarterback Duke Kinnamon scored the first of three second-half touchdowns on a five-yard run, before ending his scoring outburst with a big 45-yard run.

Northside-Warner Robins 45, Flowery Branch 7: The teams entered the half locked at seven, but the visiting Eagles pounded the Falcons in the second half. Curtis Martin opened the second half with a four-yard touchdown run. Keshun Hill had a first-half 40-yard touchdown run, an 18-yard touchdown reception from Marcus Ivory, and a 30-yard run in the second half to stamp the victory.

Ola 38, Eagle’s Landing 30: The visiting Golden Eagles were able to take a 22-17 lead into the half, as quarterback Bradley Dewberry converted a fourth-and-13 conversion to his goliath target Bill Teknipp. An emotional Mustangs community that is still mourning over the death of sophomore offensive lineman Jason Holland earlier this month was able rally the Mustangs’ back and close the door in the fourth to claim a heartening victory.

Riverwood 48 Cambridge 0: The Bears lost to the visiting Raiders in Cambridge’s first-ever football game. Grant Drakeford set the tone and got the Raiders on the board twice with an electrifying 63-yard touchdown run and 54-yard punt return. Jermel Johnson anchored the defense with 12 tackles and furthered the lead with a 73-yard touchdown run.

Sequoyah 41, River Ridge 14: The visiting Chiefs dominated all aspects of the game. Running back Blake Ingleton rushed for 294 yards to lead Sequoyah. Ingleton also had three rushing touchdowns. The win was the first of the season for the Chiefs. They are now 1-1 this season.

Wonder why newspaper sales are down? Why would anyone want to pay for this kind of reporting? AJC, this is constructive criticism – it is to help you learn and improve. Nobody will buy your paper if they see this sort of lackluster effort and poor work. Only a handful of schools, 800 yard touchdowns? Really?

East Paulding, observations from a recruiter:
Discipline and Organization of Coaching staff was terrible in regards to the previous Coaching staff, and has stemmed down to the players. Program is headed back to the old East Paulding prior to the winning years. Head Coach was disengaged and unaware of several opportunities happening on the field and sideline. There were several instances where the players were confused on the field once a coordinator would call a signal and the head coach would finally become engaged and attempt to change something. COACHING has FAILED the extremely great talent on this team. The win came on the instinct of the players but should have never been this close. Players were unconditioned several had leg cramps. The starting Quarterback (great athelete) played defensive back and was the punt returner, absolutely shows the inexperience of the Head Coach. Quarterback was winded due to playing both ways and went out with leg cramps and Head coach was unaware. Back up quarterback was not ready or briefed by the coach and fumbled the first exchange. Poor coaching led to fans disappointment with this young mans opportunity. Head coach was more concerned with politics with the asst principal and interaction than the game. This never happened under the previous coach due to the understanding of his position and discipline and respect for his program and his responsibility to his players. Head coach needs to gain discipline and organization upon himself, instill the same on his staff and this will in turn be projected by the players. No corrective action taken immediately on mistakes made by the players. TRULY DISAPPOINTED AFTER A VERY ORGANIZED AND DISCIPLINED PREVIOUS 6 YEARS. The Head Coach truly has failed this program and will continue to do so if he does not make the necessary changes quickly. The Atheletic Director needs to get involved to ensure a great program is not disentigrated. GREAT WIN PLAYERS!! YOU GUYS KNOW WHAT TO DO, KEEP MOVING FORWARD!!

Observations from a recruiter….. LOL!!!… how do you know who the asst.principal is and why were you paying so much attention to the coach instead of the game and the players you are trying to recruit?

This sounds like a personal rant from a parent of a player. Yes, there are several things that NEED to be worked out and quickly but instead complaining get behind the coaching staff and become part of the solution instead of part of the problem.

ATTITUDES LIKE THIS ARE CANCERS AND WILL SPREAD TO THE PLAYERS.

When players read this they will adapt the attitude the problems are ONLY because of the coaches and will loose respect for the leadership. THIS

Poor assesment on your behalf. Our responsibility is to evaluate an entire program and make assessments on the complete package. This program with new leadership, as well as North Pauldings was an interest with the talent involved. Understand when assessing players you watch the interaction of the teaching of a program and have to report the players ability, interaction and what type of leadership is in the program. I have been doing this for 25 years in the SEC for 3 top schools. There is great talent being looked at in this program. Question on “How do you know the Principals?” It is our job to ask questions, Some concerned fans will let you know a lot. A players interaction off the field and character is also important and we do ask questions. Pretty simple process. Not attempting to break the players down at all and wish them all the chance to success. If I was a parent, believe me I would be very vocal at the school. Remember programs with “POOR DISCIPLINE EQUALS PROGRAMS WITH POOR PERFORMANCE”. Players have the responsibility to execute the direction of the coach and program and will follow suit if lead properly, regardless of what someone writes. Posted observation on East Paulding for those to make corrections. I also evaluated McEachern and Walton last night. Very different observation that was sent back. Very disciplined coaching on both sides of the ball, even with a player being ejected and the coach pulling the entire team together to ensure the understanding of the problem. Thus execution was at an extreme high on both sides. Good luck with your team, maybe you can make the difference and take the corrective criticism to help the program. I will be evaluating at another game later in the year to see progression. Nothing personal.

Well last night at North Paulding was set to be a big game for this area as both teams open the season with new coaches. North Paulding was pumped up and ready to go, the place was PACKED with fans lining the fences. Traffic was backed up for miles with many folks not even getting in before game time.

North Paulding played like they had something to prove and made a good game of it. East on the other hand didn’t look like the EAST teams we have come to expect. This is a team that returns MANY players from last years team with a Junior QB who threw pinpoint passes all last year.

SEVERAL huge questions came out of this game…FIRST and most important is WHY was this player our KEY offensive player, the team LEADER on the field and a player that last year showed how important he is to the team when he went down for several games with an injury and EAST struggled, playing offense, defense, AND returning punts!!! This kid RUNS the offense…don’t take chances with getting him hurt!!! STUPID, STUPID, STUPID coaching decision!!!

Next…OPEN UP THE OFFENSE!!! Throw some passes, ALL night long EAST was one dimensional and VERY obvious with their play calling. Yes, EAST won, YES the score makes it appear EAST dominated. WRONG, EAST is very lucky to have got out with a win.

Many other posters know me…I been in here posting (win or lose) for YEARS supporting the RAIDERS and yes Coach Reid took the program and built a winner. The kids were disciplined and always in good condition and they knew Coach Reid was a winner…he sold them on this and they took the attitude and went out and WON BALLGAMES! Can they win without him, of course they
can, BUT the question is WILL they for this coach. Most folks with any EAST connection know the story…Coach Goddard was NOT the booster club or parents choice, he was brought in by the previous principal (a personal friend) who then left east.

Does this mean he’s not a good coach or a good fit for this program, and does ONE game prove anything? NO…BUT…this coach needs to get on track FAST, make changes and adjustments as needed and LISTEN to input from parents, other coaches, etc.

This team WASN’T broke, it didn’t need MAJOR changes…use the talent on this team correctly!

I apologize for getting long winded but not having missed a EAST game in 6+ years I get vocal when I see a problem and we have at problem developing if not fixed QUICK!!!

One other comment…the refs at last nights game left a lot to be desired…they threw flags like they were getting a bonus for how many penalties they could call! I hope in future games we have better trained and qualified refs…the kids deserve better.

TICK…TICK…TICK…BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!
GO RAIDERS!!!!

@THE CANNON RULES – I couldn’t agree more. WHY do you play Mitchell Webb on both sides? WHY do you play Kamani Thomas on both sides? WHY when you have 2 or 3 guys that could bust a return back for a TD at any point do you have Mitchell Webb standing back doing nothing but fair catches? For a coach that comes over from Walton as the defensive coach, this was obviously not the quality defense we are accustomed to seeing from East. Goddard was handed a winning team on a silver platter and I’ll give him more time. But from what I saw last night I hope it improves.

@graphite, we know fully what our problems are here in Dekalb county. Through it all we still manage to have some of the most winning programs in the state.

Now before we came to NSWR last year your fans bragged and boasted about all the championships that you have won in the past, and you boasted about that being one of the best teams that NSWR has put on a field, but at the end of the game we were hanging out in your parking lot with our grills and fryers still burning, having a party at your stadium. Now I don’t know what game you saw last year but I believe at the end of the game we WON!

Stop making excuses because they are like butholes… everybody has one. Football is played through four quarters and if you blink someone could be returning a fumble for 101 yards to win the game on you. That’s why they don’t give the final score after 3 quarters.

Let’s get it straight once and for all, we beat you at your home field to go to the championship and we won the STATE! End of story, no excuses and a fact! Stop complaining because it’s over and history. If it makes you feel good to be rank number one this year then great, but we are the defending champions and we ran through NSWR to get it so we have nothing left to prove.

Maybe this year your team will play four quarters of football instead of 3. Maybe this year your coach won’t line a kid up in the backfield on the goal line, who we scouted and knew he takes handoffs like he’s picking up a loaf of bread, only to watch him fumble (bad coaching). So you see if you are looking for someone to blame then blame your coach.

See you in the playoffs.

To all of the EP haters, and so called supporters, Reid is gone….get over it, or go to Tift and watch your “Football God” loose!! Yes, he was a good coach, but you can’t compare Reid with Goddard. Reid was an established head coach with a proven system he installed at East behind a god awful so called coach, there was nowhere to go but up! Of couse there is going to be alot to work on when a new coaching staff comes in, with new coaches, and a new style of coaching. Yes, there are several things to work on, and improve, very obvious things that we BLEACHER COACHES can plainly see. Those are the easy things to fix, the hard things to fix are doubt, criticism, and mutiny in the ranks! We all should not be satisfied with Friday nights game, because we all expect to win, and look good doing it, and we will win! Do I agree with having the QB fair catching punts…NO…do I agree with the RB, QB playing defense…ABSOLUTELY…you have to put your best 11 players on the field to win, and set the TEAM up for success, not players!!! They have alot more to offer in a football game besides standing on the sideline while other key players are playing both sides of the ball. Will they be playing both sides of the ball in the future???? I don’t think so, when everyone returns healthy, and are able to play. We should have no reservations about making judgements on game performance, but making commets like “If Reid was here….When Reid was here….” does nothing but build barriers!

@Darich Icom……You must think that everyone in the EP community is a backwoods retard if you think they believe you are a recruiter…….I bet that took some time to come up with that one….LOL!
If you were a “Recruiter” ….(ha ha) it still cracks me up! Here are some example of your BULL#@&!*Your grammer is terrible….”wish them all the chance to success”… Succeed DA
*Your could care less as long as you get your player…..”believe me I would be very vocal at the school”….you are just trying to get problems started.
*You wouldn’t know this unless you only recruited@EP…”This never happened under the previous coach ”
*You wouldn’t use bias info….”Some concerned fans will let you know a lot.”
*You watched a game…..”I also evaluated McEachern and Walton last night”
If you truly were a recruiter, you would be a coach on a coaching staff, and coaches know how difficult the game is to coach and keep peace with everyone, and you would NEVER break the unspoken golden rule…..PERSONALLY ATTACK AND DOG ON ANOTHER COACH!
I will make a correction, you may be a Recruiter…..but for your fantasy XBOX team!!!! THE CANNON RULES has a better assesment than you! Sorry for ranting, but………………………………………Embrace change or be left behind…………………………………………..
