West Forsyth 32, Gainesville 30

West Forsyth quarterback AJ Erdely threw for a touchdown and ran for another in a 32-30 win over Gainesville on Thursday night.

The score was much closer than the game, as Gainesville scored a pair of touchdowns in the final six minutes.

Gainesville quarterback DeShaun Watson, who has committed to Clemson, completed 24 of 43 passes for 282 yards and two touchdowns with four interceptions. He also carried 15 times for 48 yards.

After Gainesville scored on the game’s opening series, West Forsyth rallied to take a 32-15 halftime advantage. Jake Wieczorek and Trever O’Brien each had scoring runs.

It was the season opener for both teams.

Not a shocker at all. Didn’t West finish like 7th in AAAAA last year, losing to Grayson in the playoff (leading at one time in the game)? I think they did. Checked their record online, all they have ever done is win. New schools, you just never know.

WF was just the better team. They made it to the 3rd round last year in 5a. That WF went scoreless in the 2nd half and made the game a little tight at the end was interesting. Pretty much what was expected. Larger class good team beats smaller class good team.

Really???….have them play NG’s schedule and they would be 5-5 (tops), or any Gwinnett teams schedule.

Tough game for the red elephants and deshaun watson. West came ready to play and they are physical which contributed to the turnovers. Hard to watch, but it was the seasons first game. One of the wsb announcers, klien, i think was overly critical of watson to the point that dj shockley had to “defend” watson bc klien kept on being pretty much a jerk. Kudos to coach miller for scheduling two strong teams to start the season.

Hey Warhawk, that was your grandaddy’s Forsyth teams that couldn’t compete. This is a final 8 team from a year ago with all it’s weapons back. An iffy defense, but if that side of the ball can compete, this team would beat all but 2 teams in Gwinnett this year. Take it to the bank.

@warhawk: Really?! If West had a Gwinnett teams schedule, we would go 5-5? West opens up the first four games facing three top ten teams. Do some research before being a biased idiot.

DOn’t give me that junk about Gainesville being a smaller school. They are city school which means they can get any kid in Hall County. Why do you think they destroy everyone they play. They only lose to other city schools. They are a public school with private school atheltics.

West forsyth looked like the better team except for the final 6 minutes. Watson is a good quarterback but erdely is a big time qb. Surprised he flies under the radar. This kid has a huge ceiling. Would like to see we’re he is in 4 years.

Go TO (Trevor O’Brien)! Big things come in small packages. This kid is the truth at 5′7″, 160 and just a soph. Kid has the heart of a Wolverine!

Great win. It doesn’t get any easier with Flowery Branch coming to town.
Hey Coach, don’t forget that huge goal line stand towards the end of the game! That D bowed up!

Gainesville used the Buford model long before Buford perfected it.
They’ve beat up on AA and AAA county schools using “transfers” at least since the 60’s.
Good to see them at least play in a class size where they can feel the butt whippings on a regular basis.

The Gainesville and Weat Forsyth game was a game of two halves. WF scored all of their points in the first half and Gainesville ran out of time in the second half. The announcer on the telecast said Gainesville did not have any weapons, but I seen #81 open alot , but for some reason they did not go his way. 32-30 dont sound like a butt whippin to me it came down to a failed on side kick. #81 is open again.

The game is on wsbtv @1 am…MC, maybe you ought to record it and watch again. The scores GHS made in the last 6min of game wasn’t indicative to the way they were held and intercepted in all 4quarters! It was a hard fought game on both sides!

@WTG49, A game is not over until the last second ticks off the clock. You always play a game until the end, anything can happen . Teams come from behind after playing bad early all the time. I am sure the WF Coach was not happy the way his team made a potential blow out come down to a onside kick. WF played better than Gainesville my guess is Gainesville did not want to use all of their weapons on offense, because one of their receivers (#81) was open most of the night. Good game.

Honestly, Gainsville is a great team, they have a ton of athletes that we as a defense had to account for. Everyone is agaisnt us(WEST) we are a great team. 16 starting seniors with experience. Sure we might have lost one or two people last year, but watch out for us this year. Maybe people should stop saying gainsville didnt try or play well, and consider that we schemed this team to our advantage and played better. Score doesnt justify the game. watch yourselves and tell me that we didnt execute better. This is strictly from a player’s stand point.
