Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy will forfeit its opening game Friday because the team won’t have helmets and shoulder pads ready, the coach of the opposing team confirmed Wednesday.
SACA was scheduled to play at North Cobb Christian on Friday.
‘’They sent shoulder pads and helmets off to be conditioned, and they haven’t come back yet; that’s the story that I got,’’ North Cobb Christian coach Harry Miles said. “I’m trying to find time to make it up, but it doesn’t look good.’’
Call to SACA asking for comment were not returned Wednesday. The Georgia High School Association was not aware of SACA’s decision.
Both teams were 1-9 last season. This was to be the first meeting between the two.

A neighboring HS should step up and allow the team to borrow helmets and shoulder pads!

“They sent shoulder pads and helmets off to be conditioned, and they haven’t come back yet”
What have they been practicing in? I see how they went 1-9 last season. They played the first 4 games w/o helments
something very bogus about this story!!!

Jarvis Crittenton can’t give them any money. He has to use all his money to pay his lawyers to get him out of a Murder rap.

The school can’t pay for helmets & shoulder pads to be conditioned when the administration can’t pay the faculty! Yeah,I said it!

Stop letting the parents’ children attend the school for free. The SACA parents drive expensive cars and trucks, wear fashionable clothing, and live in very nice homes. Pay the teachers and the custodians!

Yeah, at first I thought to myself, gee what a sad story. But as Tiger pointed out, these kids must have had some rough practices without any helmets….

You are speaking about what you don’t know. Dwight does contribute to the school yearly. Easy to spend someone else’s money. How much have you given to your high school booster club?……

You people are amazing. You find any reason to make yourselves feel better by criticizing a bunch of kids.
I was hoping to see some encouraging comments but not in 2012 America.
FYI, football equipment is expensive – especially for a private school that does not use YOUR tax dollars to pay for them like public schools do. Having used equipment reconditioned is a cheaper choice.

How can people comment on things they know nothing about……The program is suffering just like all others. Do you know the team that went 1-9 played with 17 players played in the toughest Region in Georgia. Also, this is first year Georgia High School Association is requiring a seal for reconditioning of helmets and shoulder pads. You try and play ELCA. Landmark. Athens Christian, etc. Landmark played in the State Championship
Really?

@Reg: Public schools don’t use tax dollars to pay for sports equipment, the booster club and gate fees pay for the team’s equipment. So, public schools don’t use our tax dollars nor are they allowed to. Please educate yourself before saying things you know nothing about.

@IPB: I know what I’m talking about because I was there,at the school daily, listening to the complaints of the staff. The former Chief Justice of the Georgia Supreme Court, the current Fulton County D.A.,and other influential people had kids attending the school.

They had the opportunity to get a quality coach at one time but he fond out that rich folks weren’t paying tuition, therefor he wouldn’t get paid. It could be a good situation there, but it isn’t managed well.

Hate to say this but SACA should drop football, or schedule some teams they could possibly compete with like BEN HILL, SANDTOWN, maybe Old NATIONAL or WelcomeALL.
