Camden County was efficient offensively and stingy defensively when it needed to be, and the Wildcats rolled to a 42-0 victory against Peachtree Ridge in the Corky Kell Classic at the Georgia Dome on Saturday.
It was the sixth victory in seven appearances in the event for Camden County.
Camden County took control with touchdowns on two of its three possessions in the first quarter. After Camden missed a 38-yard field goal on its first drive, the Wildcats’ defense forced a Lions punt after three plays. A low snap led to a 7-yard punt, giving Camden possession at the Peachtree Ridge 29. Four plays later, Antonio Wimbush scored from the 2 for a 7-0 lead.
Camden County drove 80 yards in five plays, aided by a 15-yard penalty against the Lions, for its second score. Jaccob Johnson capped the drive with a 19-yard run with 1:22 remaining in the quarter to make it 14-0.
Camden County ran just eight offensive plays in the second quarter but added to the lead when Brice Ramsey threw a 34-yard touchdown pass to J.J. Green with 8:02 to play before halftime.
The Wildcats pulled away in the third quarter. Kalvarez Bessent returned an interception 48 yards for a TD to make it 28-0, and Ramsey added touchdown passes of 8 yards to Conner Lockhart and 61 yards to Marcus Jordan.
Ramsey, who has committed to Georgia, was 6-for-8 passing for 132 yards and three touchdowns. Green, who also is headed to Georgia, had 89 yards rushing on eight carries. Camden County finished with 366 yards of total offense.
Peachtree Ridge had its chances in the first half. Twice the Lions drove deep into Camden County territory but came away with no points. Trailing 7-0 midway through the first quarter, Peachtree Ridge drove 60 yards to the Camden 23 but missed a 40-yard field goal attempt.
Peachtree Ridge’s best scoring opportunity came in the second quarter after Camden County had taken a 21-0 lead. Peachtree Ridge took possession on its 20 and went on a 15-play drive to the Camden 10 but missed a 27-yard field goal attempt.
The Lions had 161 yards of total offense in the first half but hurt themselves with eight offensive penalties.

Camden is a good team. But I would love to see them play in Gwinnett year in and year out. you may have beaten PTR but I’m not sure you would beat them every year, just like I’m not sure you would beat any Gwinnett team every year.

I feel better about Camden playing Gwinnett Teams than playing teams from R1 6A!

for years Camden was criticized for being in R3 now they move to R1 and now all of the sudden Gwinnett criticizes them for playing in what is probably the most competitive region in the whole state in any class.
Just to be clear… I fully understand that it is going to be a gauntlet of a season, but I have been waiting for this for 10 years!! I hated region 3. I never even went to the games because it wasn’t worth my money and time. But finally we have real football in Camden and I can’t wait!!! Fred… just havin a little fun wit ya! OK?

Camden wildcats looked good and very well coached. Great dicipline and very speedy defense. The new kid #45 is a force to be reckoned with. He caused all types of havoc for PTR. Watch out for the cats!!

@mistermak – No problem man and no, my feelings aren’t hurt. You kind of proved my point by saying you have wanted to play quality competition and I just didn’t think PTR on Saturday was quality competition. I don’t think you can judge your team by that game any more than you could when you were having play down against the R3 teams that shouldn’t have been playing up anyway. I understand the reasons for that, I really do. I want to play the tough teams because that is how you measure yourself, not the easy teams. I have no doubt Camden can and does play slobber knocker football. I will be surprised if you have an undefeated season full of the blowouts you are used to but have no doubt you will represent yourself well!

To Chumps:
There were at least three teams better than Walton last year
Camden Colquitt and Grayson
Camden got beat on a last second pass from Seagraves of Colquitt. Colquitt got beat by a very questionable interference call against Grayson. And Grayson embarrassed Walton in the State Championship Game. Camden would have LOVED to play Walton in the Corky Kell classic.
