Camden County 42, Peachtree Ridge 0

Camden County was efficient offensively and stingy defensively when it needed to be, and the Wildcats rolled to a 42-0 victory against Peachtree Ridge in the Corky Kell Classic at the Georgia Dome on Saturday.

It was the sixth victory in seven appearances in the event for Camden County.

Camden County took control with touchdowns on two of its three possessions in the first quarter. After Camden missed a 38-yard field goal on its first drive, the Wildcats’ defense forced a Lions punt after three plays. A low snap led to a 7-yard punt, giving Camden possession at the Peachtree Ridge 29. Four plays later, Antonio Wimbush scored from the 2 for a 7-0 lead.

Camden County drove 80 yards in five plays, aided by a 15-yard penalty against the Lions, for its second score. Jaccob Johnson capped the drive with a 19-yard run with 1:22 remaining in the quarter to make it 14-0.

Camden County ran just eight offensive plays in the second quarter but added to the lead when Brice Ramsey threw a 34-yard touchdown pass to J.J. Green with 8:02 to play before halftime.

The Wildcats pulled away in the third quarter. Kalvarez Bessent returned an interception 48 yards for a TD to make it 28-0, and Ramsey added touchdown passes of 8 yards to Conner Lockhart and 61 yards to Marcus Jordan.

Ramsey, who has committed to Georgia, was 6-for-8 passing for 132 yards and three touchdowns. Green, who also is headed to Georgia, had 89 yards rushing on eight carries. Camden County finished with 366 yards of total offense.

Peachtree Ridge had its chances in the first half. Twice the Lions drove deep into Camden County territory but came away with no points. Trailing 7-0 midway through the first quarter, Peachtree Ridge drove 60 yards to the Camden 23 but missed a 40-yard field goal attempt.

Peachtree Ridge’s best scoring opportunity came in the second quarter after Camden County had taken a 21-0 lead. Peachtree Ridge took possession on its 20 and went on a 15-play drive to the Camden 10 but missed a 27-yard field goal attempt.

The Lions had 161 yards of total offense in the first half but hurt themselves with eight offensive penalties.

Peachtree Ridge – 0-0-0-0 – 0

Camden County – 14-7-21-0 – 42

C – Antonio Wimbush 2 run (Hudson Jordan kick)

C – Jaccob Johnson 19 run (Jordan kick)

I left after the first series in the second half so I didn’t see anything after. I think Brice and JJ are what everyone says they are. Even though the Bluecats won decisively, I just didn’t walk away with the feeling they were a great team. A very good team, no doubt but great, I just don’t know. The Ridge kept stepping on themselves. They had flashes of great play but just kept making mistakes. I thought Camdem didn’t look as strong as I expected. I know in our game and the NG/Packers I saw a lot of basic errors. Maybe I got spoiled by watching such outstanding play at the end of the year last year. Anyway, shaping up to be a great year!

Fred… what do they have to do to convince you? Score 100 points in the opening game? Remember it was only the 1st game of the season after losing 30 something seniors. A few mistakes should be expected. I think they played good enough to have beaten any team in the dome this weekend. I guarantee region 1 AAAAAA was watching and they didn’t like what they saw! I guess some people just like to criticize anything! Get a life Fred!!

Even though Camden won and their defense shut out PTR, they still have a LONG way to go in order to win a State Title! I saw the same weaknesses on defense tonight that I saw last season! I’m hoping by playoff time they’ll be clicking on all cylinders! Oh yeah, no Brice Ramsey or weak region jokes? :-D

@mistermak – I don’t just criticize anything and have quite a nice life, thank you very much! Walton came the closest to looking like a good team today of the teams I saw. Were it not for PTR stepping on themselves, I think Camden would have looked much weaker. I did not and am not saying they are not a good team because they clearly are. They *might* could have beaten the other teams but I didn’t see anything that made it a sure thing. After all the things many people had to say, I just thought I would see better. Heck, I was disappointed with the overall level play I saw from everyone including Grayson! You lost a lot of seniors, we did too including our QB and most of the O line. While our current QB had been a part of the system earlier, he went to GAC for the last two years, at least I think he did. The reduced number of practices played a bug part I’m sure 18 bad snaps in 2 1/2 games in one day is indicative of the sloppy play I saw.

Fred,
Grayson is #1 in the nation in some polls. The defense has 9-10 starters from last year. The defense has 8-9 FBS players. From where I was sitting, I expected more from the defense. The offense gave me what I expected. MAC was stepping on themselves in that game as well. In fact the final score was deceiving, based on overall play. Camdens defense was better than advertised. Very quick. Not as big as some, but strong enough to play with those grown men on PTR O line. The passing game by Camden was a surprise, If Grayson plays like they played yesterday, that Central game could be a long game. It is still early in the season, so most of these teams will be way better by November.

Good jo Camden! It sorta sounds like everyone was watching different games. I thought Camden looked very good. Their discipline and field presence impressed me. I One thing is for sure. None of the other 1-6A teams are going to get another good look at what they really have until region play starts. Camden is at home the next four weeks against a so-so Florida Vanguard and two weak AAA teams from Savannah before taking a week off to prepare for Valdosta. I think that’s pretty smart scheduling on their part. Good luck to the all pf 1-6A prior to region play.

Go Trojans!!

Fred… All I am saying is it seems that people always look for something to criticize on Camden. Of course they had some areas that need to be improved upon. What team doesn’t? For it to be their first game and have traveled about as far as a team can travel in GA, they played a good game. From what I could tell, the outcome was determned pretty early. I sure didn’t expect them to put up 42 points on PTR, but they did. It was obvious they need to work on their kicking game and it looked like they got beat up front several times on defense when PTR ran the ball. My point to you was it wouldn’t have mattered if they scored 100 points someone still would have said something negative about them. Since they don’t play in a weak region anymore…what now?

What I saw in Camden today was a team that is going to be a force to deal with. They made some mistakes but it is the first game of the season, I watched a lot of high school football this weekend and and them , Grayson and Walton could have beaten any of these teams. Going to be a great year for Georgia football!

Just remind me again. How bad did Grayson look beating Kell in the classic in 2011? You know, the ones who ended up state champions?

All this classic did was show us who can look the best the first game of the season, but it’s how good you look the last game of the season that counts. 14 to 15 more games to go for a state championship to be decided.

@AMAZED – Oh I agree! I was disappointed in what I saw out of the Rams today for sure. We almost always adjust in the second half and we did in this game as well. The Mac QB took advantage of over pursuit and would set up at the last second and then Katie bar the door! I’m not sure why we had Motley at nose on defense as he, while strong, is a little small. But then, I’m not the coach. We have got to clean up our act before next Friday for sure!

@mistermak – I guess I haven’t been able to articulate what I am thinking. CC is strong, no doubt. As with the other games I watched, they did not look as good as I expected. PTR had a really bad night and looked bad. I felt like I saw some things that made me wonder if CC had been playing against a team that wasn’t having a bad night, would CC have looked as good and the answer is I don’t think so. Look, I know I am not able to be totally objective about Grayson (who I thought looked like they still have a long way to go) and maybe you saw things from a different perspective than I did. I’m not going to go back and watch the game again and pick it apart because it really doesn’t matter. I’m just trying to say I came away from the game thinking more that PTR had a really bad night than I did that CC had a really good night. I think we will need to get much deeper into the season before we really know about any team. Right now, CC, Grayson and NG are 1-0 and McEacheran, Colquitt and PTR are 0-1 and that is really all we can say.

Most teams that play Camden have a “bad night”. There is a correlation.

If a team is not bigger, stronger, faster and as disciplined or more, than Camden, more times than not, Camden will win. PTR was bigger and stronger, but not faster and more/as disciplined than Camden last night. Even if they were, IMO, the outcome, maybe not the score, would have been the same, a win for the Wildcats……

Camden played a good game but not a great one. They have MUCH room for improvement, especially on defense. PTR on the other hand, IMO, did not play to their strength. Bottom line, last night Camden was the better team! Also, Camden should be commended for not running up the score! :-D

That 3-3-5 defense is run pretty well by Camden. Exceptiionaly quick and deceptivly speedy. There LB’s are very good. The best I saw all day! I cannot believe those guys are so under the radar in recruiting. When they made a tackle there guy was on the ground. And since I’m onthe subject of defense and recruiting I’ll just go ahead and make some other observations. Ramsey, best QB of the day. J.J. Green, just as much speed as Tyren Jones. As UGA fan, we need to recruit Camden’s LB’s! Langley from Kell was impressive, Mauger the safety did not show me much! (Greyson) – Clemson can keep Nkemdiche. He has hit his peek and will not get better. But, Gaullman is a baller especially at his safety position, UGA missed out on this one. I like #12 from Grayson better than kemdich. Now, lets go back to Tyren Jones. Please someone explain to me HOW THE HELL does this guy get away from UGA???? And that being said GPB should FIRE!! Tyre Gil, I used to like him. But if he says that Tyren Jones is going to Alabama one more time I think i might just have too shoot myself ” “Good Lord” people it was awful. If you listened too the broadcast and you are a UGA fan, It boardered on unbelevability.

Camden did play a good game and I thought they looked better and more ready than anyone in the Dome on saturday. I do have a problem and I wish someone would verify and clarify this for me. Is it true that the starting left gaurd is 5′10 and 165lbs. ? Is his heart that big or do you not have anyone that can unseat him because of his talent level ?

Sportsnut…….You heard right! From my understanding, the kid is 5′10, 165 lbs. But I’m not surprised, Camden has always had little guys who kicked butt on the field. Because of their size, they’ve always been under the radar. These guys don’t normally get any publicity or D-1 scholarships. So they kind of go unnoticed by the media, but not by their teammates. I don’t know if it’s heart, skill or both. But he’s a BIG player in the BIG BOY league of Georgia HS Football! I’m sure this season will be very challenging for him in R1, but I believe he’s up to the task. If I’m not mistaken, he started last year too! :-D

@Wildcat Guy – It could happen but then again it cold be someone else. If you can’t look at an honest opinion, I hope your coach can – not that he should be listening to me.

I don’t know that I saw any *great* football yesterday. I for sure saw some really good ball but not great. It appears PTR has some great components but they haven’t been able to build them into a great whole yet. Don’t be so ready to take credit for another team’s issues as proof of your outstanding play is all I am saying.

I watched the coaching from Camden very close, and they are good with the players. It was a first game…and I think they will get even better. Ramsey not only is the real thing QB but CMR might have him kicking…have never seen that in a top star QB. Enjoyed the finish in the North Gwinett game, might have spiked the ball, but the clock did not run out. I had a great time, and there are a few things that they need to do to make this day even better…..

Wildcat Guy……I hope you’re right! But I still have concerns about the defense. Even though it’’s probably the best defensive alignment for Camden, a good offense with a good coach will exploit the heck out of the weaknesses in the 3-3-5. If I can see it, I know the coaches can. The main thing is for the players to maintain their discipline in the 3-3-5. If you’re out of position even a little, it’s trouble…… :-D

Just as Yo stated , this was the first game for these young men. But Camden looked very impressive on offense , Ive been impressed with J.J since the 09 championship game vs My Eagles .The Cat defense will need a little fine tuning ,but that’s expected for the first game ,Im sure Herron was pleased with what his kids did yesterday….If Grayson had been playing Camden ,it would have been an ugly day for the Rams , The indians had nothing but the running QB and it was a fairly decent contest until the 3rd., Ramsey and J.J Green would have had Career days…….Colquitt looked horrible ,but i’m sure things will be straightened out before Lovejoy visits the Hogpen . Their offense seemed more in sync with the young QB ,Seagraves didn;t seem ready to play……

I’ll take a bend but don’t break d …..I think some/most of PTR penalties were caused by the quickness of #94( and# 47(nose guard)…Is Camden a great team yet??? don’t know…IMO they look very good for an opener and in less practices than years past…. And I hope Wildcat Guy is right

I Love highschool Football!!!! Yesterday I saw 5 football games at the Dome and had the time of my life. My Packers really have some work to do but I have confidence that we will get it figured out. Grayson is strong but #1 in the country? They may not be the best team in Ga. But those Camden County Wildcats!!!!! All I can say is WOW!!!!!! In the past, I must admit that I was the first person in the room to critisize them based on their schedule or lack there of. But after playing them last year in the playoffs and seeing them last night THEY ARE THE REAL DEAL.

Fred, what game were you looking at,LOL, this team is great and it’s only the first game of the season thats the scary part.Every team made first game mistakes which is probably what you were looking at.
If Camden didn’t pull its starters at the end of the 3rd Qrt and show a little class this game could have been 60-0.I still think we (Colquitt) may have a chance to beat them(Camden) in region play but i wouldn’t be surprised if they beat us by a couple scores.

I think some of us watched the game with our glasses off. Maybe if they left the starters in and ran it up more, people would be more impressed. There is still a lot of work to be done on defense. I was impressed by number 4 in the secondary. Teams are not going to throw to JJ’s side. That gives Kalvaraz more opportunities to step up. I am not saying Camden is unbeatable, but yesterday they improved a lot from the scrimmage a week ago.

@ Camden 74 == I would not feel comfortable with this if I were coaching and was playing a very good D. I know of teams that would take complete advantage of this until you made a change. Just as you try to do things differently if your corners are 5′6 and 5′9 and the recievers are 6′4 and 6′6. you must make adjustments and a guard on the offensive line at 5′10-165 is asking for trouble.

Camden74

August 26th, 2012

Sportsnut…….Teams have already tried to take advantage of this particular situation. When they do, the coaching staff should and will make adjustments…….When you attack one area, you’re leaving yourself vulnerable in other areas. For example, PTR tried to put 8-9 men in the box, result…..Touchdown pass! If you attack the guard position, run off tackle, run outside……..There are 360 degrees in a circle, if degrees 345 to 350 are jammed up, go to degree 351.Does that make sense? :-D

****clears throat**** You continue to have nothing nice to say about the mighty Wildcats and yet we continue to hold our heads high and dominate on the field. You stated that South GA does not have the talent that North GA have however the proof is in the score last night between Camden and Peachtree Ridge. Not only did Camden bring it on the field but many mouths were left salty be
cause they (Peachtree Ridge) have done nothing but speak ill about our players, coaching staff, and even our fans. Now, JJ Green showed nothing but class against #4 (the son of former NFL Joe Horn) while smiling through all of the trash talk and catching that unbelievable throw from Bryce Ramsey. We do not need a pat on the back or any cheers from you but give props where and when they are due for a team who came and conquered. Our fans showed up in numbers both at the GA Dome and watching on ESPN3 because that is who we are. If you do not know by now who we are let me say it loud enough for you to hear clearly……..WE ARE CAMDEN…..GO CATS GO!!!!

OK, I give up! Camden is clearly the greatest thing for football since the beginning of the game. I never said that Camden was not a good team. All I said was *I* didn’t see great play from them as much as on this night, in this game, PTR had so many problems that you couldn’t claim to be playing great on their own efforts alone. If that is causes you so many issues, then by all means go on believing there is no room for improvement and Camden will have no competition and will win it all. For what it is worth, I think we have lots of work to do to be where I think we need to be so I’m not being a homer that thinks no other team knows how to play. I’m trying to be realistic. Enough. No further comments from me on Camden.
