Washington County 24, ELCA 19

The Washington County Golden Hawks withstood a late comeback from the Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy Chargers and hung on for a 24-19 road victory in McDonough.

Behind by 12 points early in the fourth quarter, ELCA closed the gap on a 10-yard scoring run by Keyonte Green, then forced a three-and-out to get the ball back. The Chargers drove to the Washington County 13, where a Dalton Etheridge pass on fourth-and-7 fell incomplete near the goal line with 25 seconds left.

Washington County opened the scoring early in the first quarter on a 37-yard field goal by J.W. May. The Chargers took the ensuing kickoff and assembled a 70-yard scoring drive, capped off by Green’s 2-yard run. But Melvin Hill raced 36 yards for a touchdown to give the Golden Hawks a 10-6 lead at halftime.

Washington County struck again in the third quarter when William Walker found Deonte Latimer open down the middle for a 30-yard touchdown pass. Marquis Griffin ran 14 yards for a Charger score on the first play of the fourth quarter to cap a 90-yard drive, but Walker scored from 25 yards out on a keeper to make the score 24-12 with 8:51 left.

I really think this game was the beginning of a great friendly rivalry – don’t let any scores fool you, ELCA is the real deal. With that being said, great start to the season, Hawks!

Class A football ain’t no joke no more. And i’m not just talking about the private schools with all the recruiting stuff. Ask AA Vidalia (Losing to Lincoln Co) and #2 ranked AA Fitzgerald, losing to ECI last week. Some of these teams can play with anybody.

Both teams laid it on the line and fought for 4 quarters. I know that ELCA has several D1 recruits, but the 2 that impressed me the most were #3 QB Dalton Etteridge and WR #15 Davis Carrandi both Jrs. It was a hard fought battle with neither team wanting to taste defeat. The staff and fans were very hospitable and friendly. Best of luck for the rest of the season ELCA Chargers. Way to go Hawks very good victory on the road. Keep up the good work. GO HAWKS!!!

Yep, great game, though ELCA gave Wash Co the game. Two fumbles and a botched punt blew it for ELCA. Hats off to a good comeback try by ELCA. Wash Co was no slouch.

Oh, it was cool to see Camden Co come watch the 1st half. Their former DC is now DC at ELCA.

ELCA has a very good team but the Oline didn’t look very good at times, too many missed tackles, kicking game needs to improve. Can’t afford missed extra points against good teams. If we would have made the 1st one we wouldn’t had to go for two and could have tied the game at the end with a FG. Get these items fixed and it’s an easy route to a state championship concerning they don’t have to play any public schools and it seems like a down year in the private divison.

Unodawg – I think you should give WaCo a little more credit for winning the game.
Zone3canE – what happened to the player you were hyping earlier this month?
