Bush leads No. 1 Wolves to fast start

Class AAA No. 1 Buford (7-0) won its home opener Monday 8-0 over Jefferson in six innings. Pitcher Bria Bush improved her record to 4-0 with a one-hit performance. In fact, the senior ended the game recording 18 straight outs. Junior Niki Cook and freshmen Drew Puckett and Baylee Sanders each went 2-for-3 at the plate. The Wolves won the Wesleyan bracket of the Leadoff Classic Tournament after recording wins over Northview, First Presbyterian, Loganville, Wesleyan and St. Pius. Bush was named to the all-tournament team after hitting .455 while going 2-0 and sporting an 0.64 ERA in the circle. … Class AAAAAA No. 4 Archer (6-3) went 3-0 in the Hawk-Bulldog Classic at East Jackson Park. The Tigers dispatched No. 10 Peachtree Ridge 9-1, Effingham County 13-3 and Social Circle 13-1. … Lassiter coach Jason Campbell earned his first win with the Trojans last Wednesday in a 3-2 season-opening win at Allatoona. Carly Kayler homered in the second inning to give Lassiter a 2-0 edge. After the Bucs tied the game, Murphy Davis somehow scored on a rundown after Mackenzie Kayler grounded to the shortstop. Davis finished the game 2-for-2 at the plate. Kayler got the win for the Trojans. Campbell was head coach at Hillgrove for six seasons prior to moving across Cobb County to Lassiter. … Wheeler (1-1) scored nine runs in the fifth inning to earn an 11-7 win over McEachern (0-2) Saturday. Anna Awald got the win in the circle for the Wildcats while also going 2-2 with a double and an RBI. Khayla Green led McEachern at the plate by notching three hits with three stolen bases and four runs.
