Montravius Adams, Dooly County
Position: DT
Height, weight: 6-foot-4, 285 pounds
Class: Senior
College choices: Has numerous offers, but is uncommitted. Auburn and Clemson appear to be the leaders.
2011 season wrapup: Adams had 44 tackles for losses and more than 20 sacks for a 7-4 playoff team. He was the Region 4-A Defensive Player of the Year and a first-team all-state.
School’s first Super 11 since: Adams is the first.
What’s interesting: Adams is the No. 1 defensive tackle prospect in the country, according to Rivals and Scout, and would be the best defensive line recruit from Georgia in decades, if not for Robert Nkemdiche of Grayson.

Ridgeland safety Vonn Bell scored 14 touchdowns last season, including three on fumble recoveries. (Jason Getz, jgetz@ajc.com)
Vonn Bell, Ridgeland
Position: S
Height, weight: 6-1, 190
Class: Senior
College choices: Ohio State, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Texas, Clemson
2011 season wrapup: Bell was a first-team all-state selection for a 7-5 Class AAA playoff team. He finished with more than 100 tackles and 1,000 all-purpose yards. He scored 14 touchdowns, including three on fumble recoveries.
School’s first Super 11 since: Bell is the first.
What’s interesting: Bell’s first sports awards came in swimming. His father, a former football player at Murray State, worked for the YMCA and introduced his son to that sport and several others at a young age.
Shamire DeVine, Tri-Cities
Position: OT
Height, weight: 6-6, 360
Class: Senior
College choices: Committed to Georgia Tech
2011 season wrapup: DeVine was an honorable mention all-state selection for a Tri-Cities team that set a school record for victories (10-3) and reached the Class AAAA quarterfinals. He finished with 80 pancake blocks and only allowed two sacks.
School’s first Super 11 since: DeVine is the first.
What’s interesting: DeVine is one of three major-college prospects on his high school team’s offensive line. The others are Jeremi Hall, also committed to Tech, and Dominique Threatt, committed to South Florida.

Camden County defensive back J.J. Green is the school's first Super 11 player. (Jason Getz, jgetz@ajc.com)
J.J. Green, Camden County
Position: RB/DB
Height, weight: 5-9, 170
Class: Senior
College choices: Committed to Georgia
2011 season wrapup: Green was a first-team all-state player for a 12-1 team that reached the Class AAAAA quarterfinals. He had 912 yards rushing and 337 receiving, scored 21 touchdowns and averaged 26.8 yards on punt returns. On defense, he intercepted three passes and blocked three kicks.
School’s first Super 11 since: Green is the first.
What’s interesting: Green’s school has won 125 games and three state titles during the past 10 years, but has never had a classification player of the year or a Super 11 player until now.
Tyren Jones, Walton
Position: RB
Height, weight: 5-9, 200
Class: Senior
College choices: Committed to Alabama
2011 season wrapup: Jones led the state in rushing with 2,375 yards and was named The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Class AAAAA Offensive Player of the Year. He scored 33 touchdowns in leading the Raiders to a 14-1 season and their first trip to the state championship game.
School’s first Super 11 since: Chase Thomas in 2007.
What’s interesting: Atlanta’s entry into the Arena Football League in 2002 brought Jones to metro Atlanta. His father, Tyrone, was a star wide receiver on those early Georgia Force teams.

Brandon Kublanow is one two Walton players in the Super 11. (Jason Getz, jgetz@ajc.com)
Brandon Kublanow, Walton
Position: C
Height, weight: 6-3, 290
Class: Senior
College choices: Committed to Georgia
2011 season wrapup: Kublanow helped pave the way for a Walton offense that averaged 313 yards per game, including 207 rushing. He was first-team all-state in Class AAAAA, the only offensive lineman to be a unanimous selection.
School’s first Super 11 since: Chase Thomas in 2007.
What’s interesting: Kublanow and Tyren Jones are the ninth pair of teammates to make the Super 11 since its inception in 1985, but they are the first who are a running back and an offensive lineman.
Carl Lawson, Milton
Position: DE
Height, weight: 6-3, 245
Class: Senior
College choices: Committed to Auburn
2011 season wrapup: Lawson was named to the all-area and all-region team in 6-AAAAA. He is considered one of the nation’s top 10 prospects at defensive end. Milton finished 4-7, but reached the playoffs for the first time since 2008.
School’s first Super 11 since: Sean Bailey in 2002.
What’s interesting: His father, Carl Lawson Sr., was a fullback on Georgia Tech’s 1990 national championship team, but Lawson Jr. never seriously considered Tech or Georgia.
Johnathon McCrary, Cedar Grove
Position: QB
Height, weight: 6-4, 200
Class: Senior
College choices: Committed to Vanderbilt
2011 season wrapup: McCrary passed for 2,643 yards and 27 touchdowns in 2011 and could threaten the state record for career passing yardage this season. He led Cedar Grove to a 7-4 record, giving it back-to-back winning seasons for the first time since 1999.
School’s first Super 11 since: Josh Jarboe in 2007.
What’s interesting: McCrary gets up at 5 a.m. every day and listens to motivational speakers and works out. He prays five times a day. He checks the house each night to make sure lights are off and doors are locked and his father is OK before going to bed.
Robert Nkemdiche, Grayson

Grayson defensive lineman Robert Nkemdiche is committed to Clemson. (Jason Getz, jgetz@ajc.com)
Position: DE
Height, weight: 6-5, 275
Class: Senior
College choices: Committed to Clemson
2011 season wrapup: The Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s all-classification player of the year had 18 sacks and 36 tackles for losses for a Class AAAAA championship team that allowed only 38 yards rushing per game. Nkemdiche, considered the nation’s top senior, also rushed for 528 yards and 17 touchdowns.
School’s first Super 11 since: Lorenzo Washington in 2003.
What’s interesting: Nkemdiche is the only Super 11 player this season, if ever, with a Wikipedia bio while in high school. He has 8,867 followers on Twitter. A recent post: “It’s not what I’ve done. It’s what I’m fixing to do.’’
Eddie Printz, Lassiter
Position: QB
Height, weight: 6-4, 200
Class: Senior
College choices: Committed to UCLA
2011 season wrapup: Printz completed 277 of 442 passes for 3,350 yards and 28 touchdowns and led Lassiter to the state semifinals for the first time in school history. He was a second-team all-state player in Class AAAAA and could challenge the state record for career passing yards.
School’s first Super 11 since: Printz is the first.
What’s interesting: Printz is a member of Lassiter’s DECA Club for students with a career interest in business. He was a finalist in the Georgia competition last year and earned a trip to nationals in Salt Lake City.
Demarcus Robinson, Peach County
Position: WR
Height, weight: 6-3, 200
Class: Senior
College choices: Committed to Clemson
2011 season wrapup: Robinson, the consensus No. 1 receiver prospect in Georgia, had 52 receptions for 1,027 yards and 10 touchdowns and was named first-team all-state in Class AAA. Peach County finished 13-2 and reached the state championship game.
School’s first Super 11 since: Chris Slaughter in 2005.
What’s interesting: Robinson is Peach County’s fifth Super 11 player in the past 10 years, the most of any Georgia school. The others were A.J. Bryant, Darius Dewberry, Tony Wright and Chris Slaughter.

Interesting list. I’m not going to pick it apart because in a state like Georgia a case could be made for alot of players to be on that list.

Northside Dawg
August 18th, 2012
2:50 pm
DeMarcus Robinson (Peach wideout and Clemson commit) smoked Northside for 8-9 catches and approximately 180 yards in last night’s preseason game. Northside won 42-31, and led 28-3 at the half, then used 2nd and 3rd stringers the remainder of the game as Peach continued to play the first string offense. Northside did leave some starting DBs in because of Robinson, but for some reason, they seldom double covered him.

Kamani Thomas from East Paulding is by far the best running back in Georgia. Not to take anything away from the other kids on the list, but it is an absolute joke that he isn’t on the list. Write it down now, his senior year will separate him from every other back in the state, and it won’t even be close. GATA Kamani!!!

I have been reading about the “diversity” issue with the ASO and choir participation in their upcoming seasonal events. All groups are supposed to be selected NOT on performance or ability BUT the ethnic and social economics within the perfoemance group.
Please tell me HOW the AJC is showing their “diversity” with these selections?

You know it’s got to be tough being a DAWG FAN. I wake up to read about Shamire Devine losing 20 lbs and gaining it back as muscle. What is he, 6′5″ 360, and Richt DOESN”T EVEN OFFER!. Yet he gets a commitment from Alden Bynum from a scholastic school league in Valdosta. Then, Richt is quoted as saying 5′11″ 270 lb. David Andrews is starting center for the Dawgs because that’s “WHAT’S BEST FOR UGA.” When Richt has a future All- SEC center, Michael Thornton, as Richt’s 3rd team Nose Tackle! And Just when I’m digesting all of this insanity, I read the FSU site where they moved a defensive tackle, Cameron Hughes, to Right Tackle and he’s now considered their best offensive lineman. And get this: the kid’s from Colquitt Co. High! That’s Moultrie Georgia! These are just a few of the reasons UGA will NEVER GET THERE under Richt. What a screwball!

Anthony Jennings is the man. He’ll prove it this fall. Another one that Richt ignored! LSU bound and the kid’s father played for UGA! It’s unbeleivable. They need to drug test the whole UGA staff, including the other screwball up there (besides Richt). None other than the “L’il General”, AD Greg McGarity. 32 years since a National Title, and, I guess if you count the Winter games, 28 OLYMPIADS!

I think it’s both sad AND pathetic that you are doing this so called ranking on CHILDREN before a game has even been played.
So Johnny Joe was man grown when he was 12. Billy bob grew 4 inches and 50 pounds this summer. He’s a kick ass football player but he’s not “ranked” because he wasn’t man grown at 12.
What a crock of sht.

Once again the AJC Super 11 is a JOKE! This is a “Politically Correct” group, not the BEST 11 instate players.
No Tray Matthews, but Vonn Bell? Really. Matthews is ranked higher by every analyst, but not the AJC. Printz and McCrary but no Brice Ramsey? Ramsey is regarded as one of the top QB talents in the nation, ahead of both the AJC choices. No Alvin Kamara? Shamire Devine but no Kelsey Griffin?
Once again the AJC offers its Super 11 which is a politically correct grouping meant to appease Metro school systems, readers, supporters of various colleges, area coaches but certainly is not representative of the Top 11 prospects from across the entire state.
What a joke

@DoWhat???? I love it when people complain about this list. Picking the top 11 players from such a talent rich state is almost impossible. Sure there are some obvious choices but making a distinction between a guy like Vonn Bell and Tray Matthews is difficult.
I also think this list does a good job of representing the entire state. Camden/South Ridgeland/North Dooly County/Central…sorry you’re not happy. And did you ever think about why the Metro Area generally receives more attention than other parts of the state? Maybe because the majority of the people that live in this great state happen to live there

What a shame! Two committed to Georgia, one to Ga Tech. What’s wrong with this picture?
Also, AJC why can’t you put something identifying where these schools are located, such as the county seat where you show only the county, or vice-versa. Even though from GA, I don’t know where several of these schools are, and bet lots of people don’t either. Like some others, was amazed that Brice Ramsey does not appear here. I know, I know, probably got edged out by a North GA player.

Interesting choices when you try to boil it down to only 11. But it still raises the larger question: is UGA’s class more about numbers than quality. Add Matthews and BR and you still end up with the flagship school getting a third of the top kids. As it stands now, UGA was never in the running for Foster, Nkemdiche, Adams, Tyren Jones, Lawson, Devine, Robinson et al — all during a year when depth is a visible issue up and down the roster. I don’t get it. I’m not a UGA fan, but I wish those who are would explain.

It will interesting to see how these 11 players pan out in college. With exception to grades and CHARACTER UGA should always get at least 7 or 8 of the 11. Why in the world would any georgia football player choose Clemson over UGA? Is Dabo a better recruiter than Richt? CMR didn’t deserve a raise let alone a contract extension until after this year and then only if he wins at least 11 games this year (including playoffs and bowl) We certainly have the talent but I’m betting, even with the easy schedule, we win no more than 9 games. I hope I’m wrong.

Cameron at FSU was looked at by UGA, and Clemson mainly during the playoff run that year in games against Stephenson, and Lassiter, were he gave Hutson Mason trouble all night. The issue with him was his grades, he did just enough to be eligable to play untill Probst took the program over in Moultrie. He was offered a Probationary offer from FSU with help from an assistant coach that was an inlaw of Bobby Bowden.
@ Colquitt Fan
I agree with you Grey should be receiving more recognition than he is but it will be ok, he will be known by alot more by the end of the season, exspecialy opposing QB’d and RB’s, not to mention the number change this year so he can be used out of the offensive backfield as a carrier instead of blocker

Then, have enough sense to move Mike Thornton to Center and off you go! It’s got to be soooo damn frustrating for UGA fans, as year after year Richt fails to evaluate and sign these type of athletes. LOOK RICHT: There are two in-state SEC caliber offensive guards out there. Both unfortunately are committed to Will Muschamp and the Florida Gators. I know you and the Georgia fan base have convenient memories, but the Gators are the group that have kicked UGA’a butt 19 of the last 24 years! Octavious Jackson form Moultrie is one of the athletes, and Joshua Outlaw from MLK in Atlanta (WHERE ELSE IS NEW?) is the other. Both have former teammates who are currently on your roster. Xzavier Ward (Colquitt Co) and Blake Tibbs (MLK). Both these kids are 4-stars who could certainly help solve your OL problems (you do realize you have offensive line issues right, Richt?) But just as importantly, you prevent them from signing with Florida. YOU STARVE THE GATORS RICHT. Starve the gators, Mark. Starve the Gators. Sheesh. What does it take for him and Booboo to figure it out! Haven’t they mindlessly allowed others schools to benefit from in-state talent such as these two year after year. Why can’t they see this? College prospects tend to have slightly above average grades – because of their athletic skill level, they learn early that given good grades they have an excellent chance to get a college scholarship. Plus they probably get extra encouragement from their teachers and coaches.

@Longhorn Nation; it was obvious that the Marietta/ Kell game was just scrimmage. Do you actually think Jennings is going to take in chances of injury in a scrimmage game. Also, if you know so much about football then you also know that neither team opened up their play book. Jennings could have had his way with Kell’s “super DBs” but clearly was instructed to not take unnecessary chances in a “Scrimmage” game. Do this for me…read the paper each weekend or better yet, come to the “real” Marietta games when Kell isn’t playing; I bet you’ll change your mind.

I want take anything from the young men who made the list, but I do agree with some of the previous post that mention how size seem to be an overwhelming factor in some of these picks. I have no problem if your big and good, but big doesn’t always mean that your good. I’ve watched many “big” guys play on a team and that’s all they were; just big. Some were we’re soft, weak, and slow. Not saying these guys are like that, but it does appear that many are chosen due to their size.

YOU deserve to be an ‘elite 11′. Just because a player competes in an elite 11 camp, does not mean they earned a spot on the ‘elite 11′. If that were the case, Eddie Printz would have been an ‘elite 11′ in 8th grade since that is when he started competing in the camps. Get a grip folks…it’s high school football. @ a parent, i can only hope your kids arent racists also. I am a lil biased but Deshaun Watson accounted for over 3k passing and 1k running and over 55 tds as a sophomore against some pretty good competition, and was pulled early in several blowout games. The biggest misconception about the Super 11 is that it’s a recruiting list. This is not the AJC’s opinion on the best prospects, or who will be the best college players. It’s the best high school players (subjectively speaking). Their high school production is much more important to the AJC than those doing recruiting rankings.

‘’Camden County’s first… Are you kidding me? Though I live in the so-called power-house area known as Gwinnett County, it appears that these experts do not do a good job on evaluating talent below the gnat line.’’
Two things to consider – One is that Camden County hasn’t been a state power but for about 13 seasons. I know they were good before that, but you know what I mean. It is odd that Camden hasn’t had a Super 11, but except for Camden fans, can anyone name a household name/great player that has come out of Camden? Not saying there haven’t been an Camden players that were worthy of Super 11, but there weren’t any that were obvious in preseason entering their senior seasons, IMO.
‘’ Kamani Thomas from East Paulding is by far the best running back in Georgia. Not to take anything away from the other kids on the list, but it is an absolute joke that he isn’t on the list.’’
Thomas was injured last season. Hard to justify a guy as Super 11 when his junior season wasn’t that successful, albeit through no fault of his own.
‘’Brice Ramsey in Elite 11 but not AJC Super 11???????’’
It’s not a recruiting list.
‘’I think it’s both sad AND pathetic that you are doing this so called ranking on CHILDREN before a game has even been played.’’
They’ve played plenty of games, just not this season. I don’t think any of 300 players in the history of Super 11 regrets the honor. But I also wonder of the affect of glorifying athletes as such a young age. Fair point on your part.

‘’ Matthews, Kamara and Ramsey are all absolute no-brainers. Eddie Printz? LOL’’
‘’No Tray Matthews, but Vonn Bell? Really. Matthews is ranked higher by every analyst, but not the AJC.’’
While those three are terrific players, none was as productive on the high school field last season as the ones that were chosen. Matthews, for whatever reason, was not first-team all-region last year, and was not all-state. Kamara ran for 1,200 yards. Tyren Jones rushed for 2,000+ and went to the c’ship game. Ramsey threw for about 1,400 yards. Printz threw for 3,000+ and led his school to the semifinals for the first time ever. Von Bell had 120 solo tackles and 1,000 all-purpose yards. Bell carries his team.

‘’ AJC why can’t you put something identifying where these schools are located, such as the county seat where you show only the county, or vice-versa. Even though from GA, I don’t know where several of these schools are, and bet lots of people don’t either’’
Good point.
Ridgeland (Von Bell) is in NW Georgia, near Chattanooga.
Tri-Cities (Shamire DeVine) is in south Fulton County, which is south metro ATL.
Camden County (JJ Green) is on the Georgia coast, near Florida.
Walton and Lassiter (Jones, Printz, Kublanow) are in East Cobb, which is NW metro ATL.
Milton (Carl Lawson) is in north Fulton County, in north metro ATL
Cedar Grove (Johnathon McCrary) is in DeKalb County, in east metro ATL
Grayson (Robert Nkemdiche) is in Gwinnett County, in NE metro ATL
Peach County (Demarcus Robinson) is in middle Georgia, near Macon.
Dooly County (Montravius Adams) is in middle Georgia, but a little further south than Peach.

Todd Holcomb

1:14 pm
One other quick thing – When people use terms and phrases like ”glaring omission” or ”no-brainer” or ”this is a joke,” that would indicate overlooking a player who is ranked among the top 11 in Georgia by everybody on earth, a unanimous player, if you will.
I realize that I have said this is not about recruiting, but for sake of discussion, let’s use four recruiting services – Rivals, Scout, ESPN, 247. They are the only other folks who rank Georgia’s high school seniors.
There are only four Georgia players who are top 11 on every list are Nkemdiche, Adams, Lawson, Matthews.
All but Mattnews (who ranks #11, #10, #9 and #5) made the Super 11. So if the AJC missed a genuine no-brainer, then the AJC isn’t alone – except perhaps Tray Matthews.
If you are a Tray Matthews fans, you may remain in the ”you cannot be serious” line. All others must fine another line to join before filing your complaint.

Doesn’t sound like you’re open-minded to hearing an answer, but I’ll try.
I didn’t mean to suggest that it was based ENTIRELY on production (or stats). Just meant that production on the field was more important in the AJC’s selections than it would be for a college coach. Never said that this was a list of the 11 guys with the best stats last year.
In Johnson’s case, he would’ve been a good choice. But I think he would’ve had a better shot if Central’s defense had been better in 2011. Central gave up 7 touchdowns in 4 different games.

I agree. Some years, there have not been any QB’s to make Super 11. This year, there are two, and we don’t know if we got the best two. Josh Dobbs, Brice Ramsey and Jennings of Marietta would’ve been good choices, too. And there’s Taylor Lamb, who led Calhoun to a state title while leading the state in passing yards.

Todd Holcomb, just because a player threw for more yard’s doesn’t means he’s a better quarterback. Brice plays. In a run first, run second, and throw third team. But let me finish by saying — I hope everyone understands that any list of the best 11 players is just an educated guess. There is no definitive list. The AJC is not trying to make some end-all statement. It’s designed to give 11 good football players some recognition, and it’s designed to give fans an opportunity on this blog to point out players we might’ve missed.

Longhorn Nation……..I’m quite familiar with the Wing-T, I know there are a number of ways to pass effectively from the formation. Herron is not a passing coach and that’s unfortunate for Ramsey. But being a Wing-T QB is not a simple task! If you’re an attentive observer, you would have noticed Camden’s formations are extremely nuanced. Effective ball handling is a must! Take a look at Ramsey’s stats from last season, not bad for a Wing-T QB with a RUN oriented coach…..

Camden74 “not bad” isn’t worthy of SUPER 11
If we recognized all the “not bad” players it would be the SUPER 2,865. I think the writer did an outstanding job recognizing eleven worthy players. It’s too bad your feelings are hurt but it happens.

Tex………You have the wrong end of the donkey! I never said anything about Super 11. I’m pointing out that Brice Ramsey is an outstanding QB and Football player in general! The kid is good! No matter how much bitching and moaning you guys do, that’s not going to change!

If Brice Ramsey & Camden had three more seconds in the Colquitt game, he would have kicked a 55 yard FG to win this game twice. Camden had already won it earlier on JJ’s interception. The game everyone wants to see this year may happen…….Camden vs Grayson.

And to think, CGHS fans are celebrating and 9/10 starters didn’t even play. CGHS Varsity beat MLK 3rd string 17-7. Yea, yea, a WIN is a WIN/bragging rights. Congrats!

Kublanow has never played center before. How can you make him the best center in GA. He is to slow and short. Another UGA scholie to ride the bench.

J.P. Vonashek at Camden is one of the most coveted OTs in the country. I hate that South Carolina got him over a favored UGA. It appears the college head coaches and recruiters aren’t as sharp on talent as the AJC writers are. How could you leave him off? One thing that has stopped Camden players from receiving more support for Super 11 status is that rarely are they allowed to put up big numbers over the course of a season. We all know that stats are the primary or driving force behind the selections, just behind playing in the Metro Atlanta area! Sorry, couldn’t help myself!

Thats what kids do when they win a game, but MLK and Cedar Grove are actually in the same boat. Niether one of you will when a state championship in football. You both put kids in college and have great kids..get a life..because I havent seen a State championship come Kings way since its been open in any sport.

I too think Grayson and Camden will play for the state title it will be alot of great athletes on the field that night.Brice Ramsey is the best QB in the state in my opinion I have seen him play 3 times.Coach Conn from Grayson and Coach Herron from Camden are great coaches and my old coaching friends tell me that Coach Conn will be coaching at Clemson next year.I have coached in Georgia and Texas for 23 years and this is the most exciting time of year. This is pure football in its finest form in one of the top states for football in the country.Enjoy Georgia high school football because it doesnt get any better anywhere.

Put the dumb/smart phone down and pay attention in your spelling class youngster…stop relying on electronics to correct you because when it’s times likes this, you don’t have auto correct. Yes, they both have great kids that go to college but can they stay. Using when opposed to win and spelling niether incorrectly, we all know YOU didn’t go or stay. YOU PPL are crazy

Congrats to all of the kids who put in work every day in the entire state. I coached kamani thomas in pound ball back in 2006, and 2007. I knew early on that he had the potential to be great. So did coach Reid. I still follow his progression, along with the East Paulding team. Don’t know if he can duplicate his soph season stats as EP O-line is suspect this year. I’ve seen all the other so called top RB’s in the state. I agree totally with the other bloggers that kamani when healthy, is the 2013 #1 RB in the state all classifications hands down!!!

I’m not sure if MLK was missing 9/10 starters or not, they got there butts spanked Saturday. That ticket cost me $10.00, and MLK’s excuse is that they held out some starters? I will no longer support their booster club. Even if they were missing 10 starters, 12 still played.

I’m a supporter of all the kids, thank you very much. I have seen on many occasions when kids are praised on the playing fields/courts and not in the classroom, WHERE IT COUNTS! The NCAA stips are changing people, GRADES do matter. I challenge EACH ONE TO TEACH ONE. #thatisall

Peach County has 6 Super 11 players and the last one because Demarcus Robinson was Udom Umoh who graduated with me Class of 2007 and played and graduated from Vanderbilt. So it should be Demarcus Robinson, Udom Umoh, Christopher Slaughter, Darius Dewberry, Tony Wright, and A. J. Bryant.
