Preseason Class AAA all-state team loaded with prospects

Johnathon McCrary, the Cedar Grove quarterback whose 6,098 career passing yards put him less than 3,000 from the state record, leads the Georgia High School Daily/Atlanta Journal-Constitution preseason all-state team in Class AAA.

McCrary, who is committed to Vanderbilt, is one of many on the AAA team to pledge to a Division I program. Others include Peach County wide receiver Demarcus Robinson (Clemson), St. Pius safety Nick Glass (Georgia), Jackson defensive lineman Justin Akins (Georgia Tech), Central of Macon linebacker Nigel Bowden (Vanderbilt) and Buford lineman Josh Cordiello (Georgia).

Jackson defensive lineman Jay Woods, who holds 20 offers, remains uncommitted.

Three other major recruits in this classification – WR Marqui Hawkins of Carver (Columbus), QB/WR Terry Booger of Woodward Academy and WR/DB Rico Johnson Swainsboro – didn’t make our list, mainly because other players had more productive junior seasons at their position.

Have you seen the QB that Marqui Hawkins has. The kid can’t throw 15 yards. Plus Carver Columbus is a run first school. He should be on this list along side D. Robinson.

Nick Colvin of North Oconee is very deserving of this preseason attention. Just an awesome athlete and overall fine young man.

Tyshon Dye is a D1 horse for sure! It’s lots of fun to watch him play. If you want to see pretty much the very best a Georgia High School game has to offer across the board, take a little ride up to Elberton on the 31st and watch Buford take on Elbert Co. in the Granite Bowl. That is hands down the best place in the state to watch a game; and with two talented teams like Buford and EC going head to head, you can’t miss! You’ll be glad you took the ride….
