AAA: All-state watch list

Below is a list of some of the better players in Class AAA this season. It has the makings of a Watch List.

On Friday, GHSF Daily and will publish the first of six preseason all-state teams (Class A) The other five classifications will follow next week.

The purpose of this list is to solicit opinions from readers on some of the state’s best players. The players listed here are just some of the ones that have come to our attention through 2011 all-state nominations, recruiting services and other correspondence.

Glad to see someone got recognized from Woodward Academy on here. Only problem is that Josh Minor would be a great selection but he graduated last year and is at Eastern Kentucky. Way to go Big Time.

The team hasn’t been impressive, but Jacob Mays at North Murray has had a solid summer that has attracted some big attention.

Good to see Nick Colvin of North Oconee on your list. He deserves to be, though he is slated to play QB this year I believe. He’s still a great WR and being recruited at that position. Also, I see you have 2 RBs from 8-AAA on this list, which is great. But, you may want to look at North Oconee’s Kawon Bryant who is the best RB in that region and budding superstar.

M.Halloway-Carver-Columbus RB is in college. The 2012 starter @ RB is Brandon Thomas. Carver-Col QB-Torrance Mcgee should be on the list also.

Bryant is a talented player and should be set to have a great year for NO, however, to say he is the best rb in the region may be a stretch considering Tyshon Dye is in the same region. Both are great players, but at this point Dye is more of a name with recruiters (Over 50 offers). Bryant still has time to earn that title, however.

Since this is a conversation starter and you guys are looking to solicit opinions of readers (and hoepfully people watching high schools games) I will give my opinion on what I have read. I am a fan of Jefferson High School. Seeing discussion of RBs Dye (Elbert) and Bryant (North Oconee) I feel like I should chime in. We played both of these schools last season. While Dye is an impressive athlete and RB, and deserving of all the honors he has received… Bryant is the most explosive talent I have seen at RB in a long time. To compare the two based on college offers is apples and oranges, seeing that Dye is now a senior and Bryant is a soph. If this is an “All-State” list based on the best high school players, I’d put them BOTH on the list. I doubt there are two better!

Cedar Grove HS has several players that should be on your watch list. I’m going to list 3 that should really be gettin a lot of recognition. 2013 WR Jamir Hannah, 2013 SS Daletavious McGhee and 2014 DE/OLB Bryson Allen-Williams. All three of these guys are really good players and should be getting more recognition than they are. You can go on HUDL and see their work from last year. Bryson went to THE MVP Camp in June and won the Top Defensive Lineman award. Just because we are 3AAA doesn’t mean that we don’t have talent. As another CGHS Fan posted earlier, we are pretty deep this year. We have our RB coming back this year in RB 2014 Deion Sellers and RB 2013 Shane Ward. Watch out….

I went to games last season to watch my brothers kid play in Madison Georgia. I went to games with my wife to watch her best friends kid play for North Oconee. I say all that to in a subtle way say…your list here confuses me. Based on what I see here on the list, and what others here have pointed out as missing from the list, I wil say that the kid playing RB at NOHS is amazing. My school will scrimmage them in a few weeks and I’m actually excited about seeing that scrimmage just so I can see that kid play!

Nick Colvin will be the starting QB at NO this year, though he is being recruited as a WR (already has an offer from Harvard), he will also line up at that position, as well as RB and DB, our upcoming JV QB is just as talented and will see plenty of playing time, Now about Bryant, by far the most explosive talent coming up at RB in the state, by his senior year he will have so mnay offers he will be able to go just about anywhere he wants, but I am hoping he stays close to home and plays for the dawgs

@ Coach P – I appreciate the discussion and wish we could get more civil posts going between fans like us so we could enjoy these message boards more. You will get no argument from me that Bryant is a great player. However, I was responding to the Bishop saying that Bryant is already the best rb in his region. I personally feel that with Dye currently in the same region it is hard to make that argument for Bryant today. I used Dye’s college offers as proof that going into the season Dye has earned the right to be called the best back in the region. My post also pointed out that Bryant still has plenty of time to earn that distinction for himself and may pass Dye this season. I would love to see Dye run the ball out of the I more as opposed to the wing.

Great to see Woodward get a player on here. Googer should definitely be added. We’ve also got one of the best punters around in senior Alex Robinson. We’ve got a strong region this year with Cedar Grove and St. Pius. And so it begins….

Everett Nicholas, Defensive Back/Wide Receiver, Cedar Grove High School, is a strong physical defensive back with great speed, great hands, great hips, and great foot work!! He is smart, intuitive and just has a great nose for the football. This past season, he has positioned himself to be one of the top defensive backs in the State of Georgia in 2013. This young man loves contact and is capable of separating the football from ball carriers and receivers at anytime. He also does a great job of covering receivers and then knows how to fly up and provide run support. This is the type of young man every coach loves to have playing for him. Everett also has a tremendous work ethic. He’s a role model to his teammates both on and off the field. He also studies films, learning tendencies of both his opponent and reviewing his own play on the field. Everett is the most FUNDAMENTALLY SOUND Defensive Back in the class of 2013 and will be an asset for any college football program as player and a student. You can view him for yourself on youtube by typing in “Everett Nicholas DB #1 Cedar Grove H.S Highlights”

@ the truth. It’s amazing how you omit the positive trues on Everett but are quick to post a negative untrue! If you have not personally height and weighed this player don’t post false information. If you have not personally clocked him in the 40 then don’t post a negative untrue. Nothing I posted was fabricated. ALL we witness last season was hard work shown week in and week out by Everett on both sides of the ball. This young man is still the most fundamentally sound defensive back and wide receiver coming out in 2013. A coaches dream. He made this list because of dedication, hard work, and skills so he must be doing something right. Don’t hate on the kids…. Let’s Go Cedar Grove!
