A: All-state watch list

Below is a list of some of the better players in Class A this season. It has the makings of a Watch List.

On Friday, GHSF Daily and AJC.com will publish the first of six preseason all-state teams (Class A) The other five classifications will follow next week.

The purpose of this list is to solicit opinions from readers on some of the state’s best players. The players listed here are just some of the ones that have come to our attention through 2011 all-state nominations, recruiting services and other correspondence.

We understand that many who should be on this list are not, and that some on this list might not belong.

Let this be a conversation starter, nothing more. Who are we missing?

Also let us know if the status of any players below have changed (transferred, injured, now playing a different position, etc.).

Two running backs and the QB from Emanuel County! The other teams in their region must be shaking in their boots…or maybe this list is not perfect.

Mt Paran has 3 that should be on the list: Dane Stevens OL; Jake Jeans DL; and Ian Berryman QB. Unfortunately, Dallas Kepler K is likely out for the season with an injury.

Evan Kasian RB from Walker should be on the list.

Wow, I thought for sure more of the recruited players from ELCA would be on this list. They did name the biggest ones though.

From Lincoln County:
Dayshawn Taylor (LB) – Could be the best linebacker in all of Class A for 2012.
Zireycus Letman (WR) – Tall, great hands, and speed.
Jalen Franklin (CB) – Sees the throwing lanes and zones very well, and has great closing speed.

ECI is loaded at the skill positions and I believe these guys, especially Pressey, Purcell and Williams, should definitely be on that list. Williams will most likely be recruited more as a DB than a RB though.

What about the 4 star DE from ELCA who’s only played 3-4 games at DE? Also isn’t Curl the one that cost ELCA the game against Landmark last year? Seriuosly AJC get off of ELCA jock. How about you check into all the things going on down there.

I know that it is impossible to get everyone on a list from all across the state, but I want to give a shoutout to Christian Payne and Sam Kennon from Prince who are both excellent linebackers!

Cameron Gibson from Darlington graduated last year. He was a senior last year so I don’t know why he’s on this list. Brad Butler is a stud athlete and totally deserves to be on the list. Big time talent.

Dequeszman Kelley of Marion County High School should certainly be considered one of if not the best defensive tackle in class a or any division in georgia high school football. College coaches what are you waiting for. This guy should be very highly recruited.

Caleb Pressey is a great candiate for this list. His stats speak for thereselves. With 97 attemps last year he was right at 1000 yds passing with 14 touchdowns. Just imagine if he had more attemps. Looking to see another great season from this senior quarterback

Hey Class A Super Fan, you obviously have never coached or played a team sport in your life due to your negative comment about the ELCA kid costing the game against Landmark. In team sports you win as a team and you lose as a team, football isnt like wrestling, tennis or swimming where the individuals performance is based soley on their own doings and wrong doings. The Curl kid that you are referring to intercepted a pass at the one yard line to save a touchdown and made numerous of .other good plays in that game.Him having 92 tackles and 7 interceptions on the season helped ELCA get to that game.Your negative comments about a 17 year old kid only satisfies you and you obviously have a vendetta against the kid and or ELCA> Only gaining 98 yards of total offense and going 0 for 12 passing due to Landmarks stingy defense didnt help the cause either. What is sad is that thier are American troops fighting right now so you have the freedom to make idiotic comments on this blog.Get a life and realize that when the game was tied 7 to 7 with one minute to go and ELCA having the ball that not one kid was responsible for the loss but the team and coaching staff as a whole didnt get the job done. It was a game for ELCA to lose and they did lose and this year is another year. The only perfect man was nailed on the Cross for you and me and I know that I will see him one day, do you know if you will see him ? I will pray for you and hopefully one day you will grow up and not attack individuals in a team sport

@superfan….bro, have you ever watched a football game? How about an ELCA game? Dude, the “one” that cost ELCA the game versus Landmark was the guy on the sideline calling the plays. 0/12 passing with two interceptions, and yet you still put that guy back in, whne you have a very good undercalssman qb who got the job done all year? Offensive play calling cost ELCA the game, has for the last 3 years!

Brendan Douglas= Man amongst boys. Reigning class a player of the year- One of the hardest working individuals I have ever seen– Had the pleasure of coaching this young man in middle school. He brings intangibles that every coach prays for but one you will see only once every ten years if your lucky

Ivan Reese is a D1 prospect with good academics. He played in the AT&T Risingseniors Bowl and is a very goods two way player at running back and OLB. Savannah Christian will ride him and along with Myrick deep into the playoffs again this year.

Calvary is loaded and the team to beat in Class A coming from south Georgia. You name it, they have it! Early season predication….Calvary vs ELCA in the State Finals.

“view from outta the box” YOU must not have watched the game because the back up qb was part of the 0-12 passing. The best thing to happen to ELCA is that the OC and DC are no longer on the coaching staff. Neither is good enough to coach above the Henry County youth ranks.

actually genious I did watch the game, the DC kept the game close. The OC wasnt the only one calling the plays, HC was also. They abandoned any sort of run game other than those jets and counters. And I know for a fact, your record aint no where near the DC’s record in coaching…youth, middle school, or high school!

Hey Class A super Fan please change your name to Class A Super Coward because that is .what you are. You first took jabs at a kid and now you are taking jabs at a couple of Coaches that helped ELCA have one of the most successful records in Class A Football the past 3 years with a combined record of 36 and 5.Your nothing but a disgrunteled parent thats kid isnt good enough to play so you have to HIDE behind a computer and think that your tough. I know both of the coaches that you are referring to and i can arrange for you to have a meeting with them so you can voice your idiotic opinion to thier face.I believe that you were the kid growing up that everyone picked on and slapped around so now that your a little bit older you can HIDE and sling mud at people that you would dare not address in person. Get a life and quit being an instigator. If you were fortunate to have a wife and kids Im sure that they would not want to continue to have a coward as their husband and Father. I hope and pray that ELCA goes undefeated this year thanks to the excellant foundation that is in place at the school.

They abandoned the run because they could’t block a soul and they had a bad injury to their starting RB. They completely got out coached. As far as the DC is concerned if he is such a great coach then why isn’t he still coaching there? Oh I know! The HC doesn’t believe in him. The HC pretty much ran the defense last year.

The DC from ELCA the last couple of years gave up coaching this year so he could watch and enjoy his sons Senior year. Since you seem to know it all why dont you coach and be productive instead of a little punk that doesnt have the courage to say anything to someones face only to hide behind a computer. I can still arrange that meeting for you but then that would blow your cover, You probably walk by and shake the hands and smile to the faces of the people that you are bashing and yell praises to Jesus while at church . You are a tool of the devil and your posts on here show that . Will the real Class A Super Coward reveal himself or continue to be the disgrunteled Dad that hides behind a computer screen. injury was to one of the starting running backs, not “the” starter. And you are right, they got out-coached, period. The HC didnt run the defense, like alot of other very young coaches, he would call plays(blitzes ect…) but the defense was run by the DC. Now this year, the HC is running the offense, should be a vast improvement, jury is still out on the new DC they brought in, either way they dont put the OC or DC name in the paper when a team loses, the HC is all thats mentioned, comes with the title. And on another note, I didnt say the DC, from last year was a “great” coach. I will tell ya one thing, he studies and preapares himself like he’s going against Lombardi, and he prepares his team like they are going against the super bowl champs, and thats every game. Great? Maybe not. but I’d let my kid be coached by him, without hesitaion…oh and my kid was coached by him. Now take your meds and have a good nite!

My son was coached by the DC that class A super fan is harassing and we loved him. Hes a good honest God fearing man who loves his family and gave up coaching so he could enjoy his kids senior season. It sounds like you have a personal issue with him and this forum isnt a place to try and be little a compassionate coach who always prepared his players for every game against any opponent. Two things are for sure, you are a close part of the Elca school along with your children and secondly just like freedom fighter said earlier you are a coward and a loser. You are in a losing battle trying to put down our old coach who loved the kids and loved coaching them. My son thinks the world of him and had a blast playing for him, he is sorely missed.

You people at ELCA really are drinking the kool aid there. The former DC is so supportive of you that he tells the NY Times that people at the school / church is paying for your stud RB tution. Why isn’t GHSA investigating that and the other “legal” moves of your recruits.

JEVIUS TERRY from ELCA is definitely one to watch. 4.4 speed, 3 DIVISION 1 OFFERS on table and climbing. He’s ELCA’s version of Oregon’s DeAnthony Thomas explosive whenever he touches the ball. Jevius along with super athletic DB Marquis Griffin will to form one the best secondaries in the state of Ga. regardless of classification. ELCA will be hard to beat.

The DC gave up coaching to watch his sons senior year?! That is funny! Hopefully that’s his story and he’s sticking to it. More than likely he was asked to step down. Yes they are definitely paying their top RB’s tuition. That’s been a well known fact for quite sometime! Also the DB coach is able to get those players to attend ELCA because he trains them in the off season which is supposed to be illegal. But since their AD sits on the GHSA committee nothing will happen to them. You know… The Good ‘Ol Boys Network!

Hey Super Class A Coward until the rule changed last year anyone could pay for any kid and ELCA broke no rules what so ever after being thoroughly investigated by everyone, so another idiotic comment by you shot down. You are so jealous of what God is doing at ELCA that I truly believe that you are losing sleep over it. Every single person reading this knows that you have an ax to grind but you are only making yourself look dumber and dumber the more you type.Im actually finding your animosity with the former ELCA DC quite humorous. Why dont you ask the Head Coach yourself to get the facts but then again that would blow your cover so keep typing. Too bad you arent in the military acting this way you would be a perfect candidate for a blanket party and a friendly fire incident. I will see you at the scrimage make sure and come up and shake my hand and smile to everyone we all know who you are you spineless coward.ELCA doesnt want people like you around so why dont you take yourself elsewhere since you arent enjoying yourself there. Well, well, well. Everyone from ELCA line up at the bucket and get a glass, you’ll love the grape falvor. Realtalk is so right on point, as long as the AD at ELCA is on the exec board at GHSA Dr Ralph isn’t gonna do anything. And since the NY Times investigation, the ELCA people just get bolder in thier recruiting and paying for kids’ tuition. Rule may have changed last year, but they didnt get the memmo. Napoleon like little boosters running all over Henry County getting players. Look for ELCA to go very far in the playoffs again this year, but the coaching will get in the way, God is watching, He will humble them, no one is above the law.

Freedom Fighter. I don’t have an axe to grind with ELCA but if I’m tired of watching us continously break the rules and use Jesus Christ as a cover up. I understand that kids that spend their whole life at ELCA aren’t assured starting spots but to continue to go out and get players just so we can have a great football team isn’t what this school and church should be about. And as for the blanket party and friendly fire comment. I thought you were a christian and a christian shouldn’t make comments like. Hey Class A Super Fan,you make no sense whatsoever. If you see me a couple of times a week and dont have the nerve or the gonads to address an issue to my face then that confirms what every person that reads this blog knows, that you indeed are a Coward. Why do you continually HIDE behind a computer and spread lies not facts about a kid a coach and a school ? Ive told you on several occasions that I can arrange a meeting with the individuals that you are slandering and you choose to sidestep any meeting and then say that you see the person at least two times a week. Get a life and spend your time effort and energy on bettering youself and your family and your Spiritual walk instead of slandering individuals in a public forum. I feel sorry for you, you are definately not a happy person and you seem to get your jollies by putting down other people and a school where you are a part of. You live in a free country where you can go to any school or church that you want to. I will personally help you find another place to attend but then again people like you are never happy regardless of where you hang your hat.I believe that your problem is a Spiritual problem that only you can correct through much prayer. so if the rule on tuition payment was changed last year, how do these kids get into school? Are we not past the GOAL deadline? Dont they have to make a move into that school’s district? Why would a kid leave a final four basketball team just to play football at a smaller school? Does GHSA even care that these so-called christians do as they please? And the church, seriously? just to have a good football team? What are we teaching these kids? Do the church and school administration even care? How about the sheep in the congregation? Well that answer is , can he run the ball? How many of those kids would still be there if they didnt play football? Yes we welcome everybody at the church, but at what cost are we bringing kids in just for football? 2 years ago, a kid was brought in for 4 months, apartment paid for, tuition paid for, and was gone by jan 31. cry, whine, & moan all you want …… “I” pay for my kid to go to ELCA ( both of them ) ….. I’ve seen him work his behind off in the weightroom & on the field. My kid is not an All Star D-1 player, but he is loved by the coaching staff and they have delevoped him into very good football player. I am not a High Roller ( $$ ) and I don’t like “politics”. I would have words with anyone I knew that did something to hurt that football program!
I wish every football player & team the very best this year, but I want ELCA to win every game we play. I really wish individuals on this blog would not bash kids or schools. If someone out there is cheating, recruiting, or not doing anything the right way ….. I pray you get what you deserve.

Why isn’t E.J. Parker of Wheeler Co HS on this list. Could it be because he doesn’t play at one of the Class A powerhouses??? But, he is a Sr RB, that runs from fullback in a Wing-T. Last season, he rushed for 1000+, playing in only 9 games (missed 1 due to an ankle injury). He is the 2011 weightlifting state champion for his weight class (I know weightlifting isn’t football). This kid is strong as an ox and has legit 4.4 speed. While working the chains at a game last season, I heard the official working the chain side of the field make a statement that deserves repeating (after E.J. broke off a run for about 75 yards)…….”That kind of speed can’t be coached. That kid left a vapor trail.”
