I think Cecil Flowe can rest with the fact that his program just simply dominated the entire state of Georgia in the early-mid 2000’s, so to the ones calling for wins and titles, he is justified. He has also been a staple in the playoffs, and everyone knows who Parkview is.

I think there is a reason most of these coaches have been able to stay with one program for so long and its not aall about wins and titles. Of course every progam wants a championship team but in the end there can only be one state champion and many very good teams wont win that title but these coaches obviously do a lot for these kids and the program that extends beyond just winning a title.

Good to recognize coaches that are loyal to the school that hired them. So many coaches are hunting schools with talent and will go after it and leave their school especially when the talent drops. I admire coaches that stay thru the good times and the bad times.

I think the listing makes a perfectly clear point on the benefit of continuity. Just glance at 6A.

Grayson, Camden, Lovejoy, Lowndes.

Enough said.

@ JUSTAFAN Georgia added another division this year (AAAAAA); Stephenson never really had the numbers to play in the states largest classification, so they elected to play down.

AAAAA, We (ALL) know that the 2013 state champion will be crowned from region 6AAAAA (The SEC of HS Football) Here is where they stand!!! TUCKER (Alabama) will be dethrone by STEPHENSON (Georgia Bulldogs), SWD (Auburn) will play hard but don’t have the juice, MLK (Florida) will be rebuilding and play some hard close games, MAYS (LSU) will be the suprising team and will upset somebody, Dunwoody (Tennessee) will be looking to get back in the lime light but just don’t have the players to compete, and the rest of the division will play below 500 ball… ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL!!

This list makes me feel a bit old, as I remember when Coach Flowe took over the program at Parkview in the wake of Coach Mize’s tragic death in May of 1993.

.I think that DeKalb county football fans needs to know why is it that both Stephenson High and Martin Lither King (MLK) were not included in the new AAAAAA classification that the Georgia High School Association has created this year. My reason for asking is due to the fact for that for the past 4 years; either Stephenson or MLK has won the region 2 AAAAA championships. But, they both were moved down to AAAAA while all the other schools that were in region 2 AAAAA were moved up to the new AAAAAA classification. Was this drop in classification due to both Newnan and East Coweta not being able to win the region? If that was the reason, I must say “THIS STINKS OUT LOUD!”

We here in DeKalb County Georgia has seen this type of region and classification change happen before when Chattahoochee, Milton and Centennial high schools were moved from region 7 AAAAA (a region that was constantly won by either Southwest DeKalb High or Douglas High) to a newly created region 6 – Division B in the year of 2000.

Dropping Stephenson High and Martin Luther King High athletic programs down in classification means that the high school football fans living will no longer is able to enjoy Georgia High School Football at the state’s highest level. And, I do not think that if all of the high schools that were previously mention were not predominately African American, I would not have to write such a remark in this day and time.

For all that it is worth, I really hope that I am wrong about all of this. I am only writing this because I am deeply hurt when is comes the dropping is classification for both schools.

Love Georgia High School Football,

Actually cooploopSWD, I understand completely what you are saying, there’s always a little politics in everything, but Stephenson& MLK had elected to play up in classification while they really never had the numbers, Lakeside had more students than Stephenson and MLK had a tad under the states recommended level to play in the State’s highest classification. They both voted to play down this year in AAAAA instead of AAAAAA…:)
