Walton won the Cobb County Championship at City Club Marietta. The Raiders posted a county-record 290 to win its first county title. All five Walton golfers shot in the 70s at the short venue, led by sophomore John Yi with a 70. David Yowell and Connor Edison had 73s and Matt Flynn and Tanner Landry shot 74s.
Yi and Anders Olsson of Whitefield Academy tied for medalist and could not determine a champion after two playoff holes. They were declared co-champions when darkness precluded further play.
Lassiter was second at 301, with Mount Paran in third place at 304 and Harrison next at 305. Whitefield’s Ty Hamper was third among individuals with a 71. . . .
Brookwood’s boys beat Archer at Summit Chase behind a 35 of Drew Hutchinson and the girls scored a win thanks to the 39 posted by Taylor Allen. Earlier in the week Allen had a 40 to help the Broncos hand Parkview its first loss of the season. . . .
Cody Solomon shot 73 and Nick Ross shot 75 as Wesleyan beat Pace Academy and Holy Innocents’ at St. Ives. . . . Will Johnson of Glynn Academy shot a 3-under 69 in a win over Benedictine at Brunswick Country Club.
No. 1 singles player Chris Clark of Collins Hill earned his 50th career victory and moved into second place on the school’s all-time win list and helped the Eagles beat Mountain View 5-0. Tyler Kallgren, the No. 2 singles player on the team, also won his match – the 52nd of his career. . . .
Colby West won at No. 1 singles and helped Buford improve to 14-2 with a 5-0 win over Dawson County. . . . It took more than three hours, but Lauren Byrd of Lanier won her No. 1 singles match that was needed to give her team the win. Byrd won the match 6-2, 6-7 (4), 7-5, rallying from a 5-3 deficit in the final match. . . . Vani Crist got the decisive victory for the Providence Christian girls in a 3-2 win over North Oconee.
The Peachtree Ridge girls continued their perfect run through Region 7-AAAAA with a 4-1 victory over Norcross. Abby Owens and Ali Mills won at No. 1 and No. 2 singles for the Lions (10-1, 7-0). . . . The Calvary Day boys are unbeaten after a 5-0 win over Claxton. Corey Stack won at No. 1 singles. . . . Peter Bertrand won at No. 1 singles and North Oconee beat Providence Christian 5-0.
