Track and Field Blog: County meets today, all week

County meets on tap. Hundreds of metro area athletes are battling for community supremecy this weekend and next week as 11 counties and the city of Atlanta hold championship meets.

Here’s a list with some of the top performances thus far:

Henry County, Friday and Saturday at Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy

Champions: (Boys) Luella; (Girls) Woodland

Top Performers: Tadashi Pinder, Luella, 100 meter (10.51 seconds) and 200 meter (21.41) champion; Briana Vaughn, Union Grove, 100 (11.97) and 200 (25.40) champion; Shantia Wilson, Eagle’s Landing, 400 (59.04) and 800 (2:21.25) champion; Paige Rankine, Luella, 1,600 (5:15.31) and 3,200 (11:15.30) champion; Dacosta Smith, Union Grove, 1,600 (4:32.11) and 3,200 (10:06.01) champion; Shawayne Lawrence, Eagle’s Landing, shot put (52-feet, 7 inches) and discus (145-10) champion.

Clayton County, Saturday and Monday at Twelve Oaks Stadium
Top Performers:
Kelsey Arnold, Jonesboro, shot put champion (39- ½); Taurean Ferguson, Jonesboro, 300 hurdles preliminaries (39.08).

Cobb County, Saturday and Monday at Walton
Top Performers:
Kendell Williams, Kell, 100 hurdles preliminaries (13.58) and long jump champion (20- ½ ); Alan Frey, Campbell, 110 (14.29) and 300 hurdle preliminaries (39.20); Michael Newton, Sprayberry, 400 preliminaries (46.93); Tray Oates, Allatoona, pole vault champion (15-0).

DeKalb County, Saturday and Monday at Panthersville Stadium
Top Performers:
Jada Martin, M.L. King, 100 preliminaries (12.12); Felicia Brown, M.L. King, 400 preliminaries (56.21); M.L. King, 400 meter girls relay preliminaries (45.62); Alyssa Felton, Chamblee, long jump champion (18-6 ½ ).

Fulton County, Saturday and Monday at Westlake
Top Performers:
Keturah Williams, Alpharetta, 100 preliminaries (12.20); Kinnari Badger, Alpharetta, triple jump champion (38-8); Creekside, 400 meter boys relay preliminaries (41.16); Kenneth Fisher, Tri Cities, long jump (23-7 ½ ) and triple jump (46-5) champion.

Gwinnett County, Saturday and Monday at Mill Creek
Top Performers:
Autumn Burnette, Peachtree Ridge, 100 hurdles preliminaries (14.11); Simone Glenn, Brookwood, 100 preliminaries (11.91); Aliyah Abrams, Grayson, 400 preliminaries (55.41); Anna Machovec, Dacula, shot put champion (40-2 ½ ); Josh Brickell, 1,600 champion (4:17.46); Malcom Jackson, North Gwinnett, triple jump champion (46-4 ¼ ).

Congrats to MLK Lady Lions for your SUPREME JOB in breaking National RECORDS in the 4×100
#1 and Third in the 4×400!! What a POWERFUL Track Team, they are like Stallions on the run. They represent 5A on a national level as well as county and state. Awesome Ladies!! Congrat to the Guys also job well done!
